Scotty where I live 4x4s are a practical nessessity and used ones are hard to find. Doesn't matter the brand/model they are exspensive when you do find them. My 03 Dakota 240,000 miles still has a market value here of $4,000 to $5,000. I recently went shopping for a possible replacement $7,000 for an 04 anything I even seen an 09 priced $20,000. I live on dissability I can no longer afford to buy another truck. My old Dakota still runs strong and in good solid mechanical shape. So I guess even at 240,000 and 17 years old it's worth the effort to keep her going.

I had a 1994 Ranger pickup that I bought from my neighbor when it had100,000 miles. I sold it in 2015 when I bought his used F 150. The ranger had a 3.5 litre engine, manual trans with 4 wheel drive. In the 213,000 I had it ( total.of 313,000), I replaced the clutch twice ( teenage boys ), all the u-joints, a starter, alternator, mass airflow sensor, and the water pump the month before I sold it. It didn't use any oil, no rust (did have a little paint pealing), and everything else worked, AND the seats did not have any holes in them! I let it go for $1,200 and the person I sold it to still uses it for a work truck. I can vouch for Ranger pickup trucks!

I’d recommend Nissan hardbodies. I had 2 93s. Both had over 200k miles. Awesome little trucks. One had 240k miles, drove it for about 3 years. Never burned oil or anything. Only thing I had to change was the belts and a couple light bulbs. Oldest and highest mile truck I ever had, only one that didn’t give me problems. Until a lady rear ended me texting and driving.

It has 199K miles now, original engine and trans, and neither has been rebuilt, and the AC still blows cold air. I did keep the oil, and trans fluid changed religiously, myself. I had one of those Mazda B series pick ups it had the four-cylinder engine in it that had been overheated. The oil rings seized to the pistons from heat. I put new rings and rod bearings in it, never touched the main bearings. I used silicone for an oil pan gasket. The valve cover gasket was reused with a very fine layer of silicone as added sealer. I also reused the exhaust manifold gasket as it was a solid piece of metal. The only thing I bought other than the rings and Rod bearings was a head gasket and an intake manifold gasket. I drove that truck trouble free for another seven years before it finally gave up the ghost. Best $400 truck I ever purchased.

Got an '89 Ford F150 2wd that I bought for $1,700 Cdn in Aug 2012, had 255,000 km (153,000 miles) 5 ltr (302) 5 speed standard. Got 505,000 km (303,000 miles) on it now. Been my daily driver for over 10 years. I've hauled 17,000 gallons of water with it in 6 years 100 gals at a time, hauled about 500 pallets with it. Hauled wood with it and pretty much you name it. Given countless numbers of people a ride with it. Starts whether 30 below or 90 above. One day in January January 29th, 2019 it was -47C (-53C with the windchill) plugged it in for about an hour that time and turned it over and it started! The only major fix I've had done is pressure plates and release bearing, fixed the ignition switch (twice) and oil pan gasket. Pretty good on gas for a full size pickup (about 20 m/gal hwy). The transmission is finally wearing out and I think the release bearing might be going again. My goal is to get 700,000 km out of it before I retire it and build a ramp for it and display it, even then I may still take it for an occasional drive. The Lord has blessed me with this truck, couldn't live where I live without it. Long time ago I picked a name for that truck and called it "Thunder" because it's quite loud. Would I buy another old Ford again? In a heartbeat!

Mom bought her frontier brand new in 2003. Still running great 18 years later. Its sound made me think it was made for racing, too bad they came with governors, cant go faster than 90.

@4:40 a/c repairs only cost $1,000 if you are paying to have it repaired. You can buy a new compressor, condenser, valve, evaporator and seals less than $500. Takes maybe 3 hours to replace ALL of those things. Harbor Freight vacuum pump and a couple cans of R134a and oil you are good to go. I've done it on 4 cars soo far since I got tired of being robbed by mechanics. I get paid $36/hr at work so 3 hours of my time is well worth it to save hundreds of dollars.

My first car was a 2001 Nissan frontier XE with a manual transmission. That thing was a tank. It was in my family for 15 years and the only issues was the ac compressor. That thing ran just as good as when I first had i the day I got rid of it. Even with a couple hundred K+ miles on it.

Bought a 2000 Chevy s10 2.2L manual for $1200 cash 2 years ago with 280k miles. It’s still running strong and I have no regrets. I just take it to Home Depot and back on the weekends or haul away trash at the house. Love that little truck.

2006 sport trac was really cool, bought it for my daughter, put a nice set of MT wheels, 32” tires, Bilstein shocks, a replacement stereo with a backup camera. She loved it. Replaced all of the brakes, bearings, updated all the ignition parts and hoses. Magnaflow exhaust sounded great. Good power. Crappy mileage. Back bed was useful enough. Car was totaled when a driver ran a light, had 8,000 in it, insurance paid out 9600.

Unlucky but Lucky you. I have an 07 and it's had more mess than I can handle. From tranny to wiring that screwed up 02sensors. Then the hurricane Mike hit it. 😭. And I still want it like a bad woman 😭😂😀😎

    N. Davis You did not mention the Chevy S-10, or GMC equivalent. I own a '99 Ranger extended cab with 3.0 V-6 and 5 speed manual transmission. I have over 135,000 miles on it. It had 20,000 miles on the odometer when I purchased it. . Other than replacing the rusted steel rims caused by Michigan winters, and a new clutch, I have not had a single problem with the Ranger. It now lives in Florida with me. I don't plan on selling it anytime soon. They are sturdy trucks that just keep on going if properly maintained.

Last year my brother got rid of his 2010 Chevy Silverado he had a ton of problems last year. After that he and his buddy did alot of repairs and got it fixed. He traded his crappy Silverado for a Toyota Tacoma Full Size and he loves it.
My Grandfather still has his 1990s Chevy Silverado and It works great. I have so much nostalgia with his Truck.
