My dad used to have a 1991 4x4 Nissan D21. I loved it. I learned to drive in it.
Now, it wasn't permanent 4x4, and to engage it you had to manually lock each front wheel dice. So when we had to go through some rough terrain my father would stop and have me get out and lock both front wheels. And when it was over I would have to get out again and unlock them.

+1 my first truck (V6 4x4 SE) and vehicle for $1000 (I bought a project SOHC S13 a month later for $1500 as a side car).
The 2000's were an amazing time with cheap but awesome car.

FYI guys- for the C/K General Motors trucks the “C” indicated it was a 2WD and a “K” indicated it was 4x4.
Also- 10 meant 1/2 ton (you could get short or long bed), 20 meant 3/4 ton (was always long bed), and 30 meant 1 ton.

My first truck is a 73 dodge w200 I got in August, terrible gas mileage due to the 36 inch tires and the 6 inch lift but I love it. Gets a lot of attention when in public.

My first vehicle was an 02 ranger I bought from my grandpa, he sold it to me for a thousand bucks and dammit it’s still my favorite vehicle I’ve owned. RWD, crank windows, 5 speed, 4.0, just an honest happy driving little truck. I don’t daily it anymore but I can’t let it go, at only 25 bucks a month for insurance it’s nice to keep around. Hard to let go of your first car

1st gen frontier is a great cheap option. For someone younger with a smaller budget. These trucks give you all the basics you’ll need in a truck. I’ve had 4runners and a Tacoma. The frontier can compete they’re dam reliable and are really cable at off roading. I found mine for 4000$ and put another 2000$ over time and it keeps up with my 4Runner and Tacoma.

Just remember, Ford SVT had planned to make a performance SUV during the glorious Lightning years. Called the Thunder, it was a lowered Expedition with the same supercharged engine and set up as the Lightning with all the comforts of a full size SUV.. but sadly Ford said no.
I will never forgive Ford for not giving it the green light.
As well as axing the 3rd generation lightning and the lightningbolt concept - which was a stepside 2002 ranger with a full drivetrain / suspension swap from a 2002 Lightning. You can read more about 3 these concepts on blue oval trucks site. I still resent ford for killing off the 3rd gen. I'd give anything to own one.

Pops had a red first gen Ranger GT when I was in high school. Don’t remember how/why but I got to drive it for a while. Little bastard was quick. Geared just right and you could boil tires off that thing in first thru third. Loved it. Bent the shit outta that super long shift lever from bangin 2nd gear all the time. Had to Bend it back before pops started driving it again to remain amongst the living and it was not easy.

Hey James. Just wanted to share something. I'm currently driving a 1988 Ford Ranger XLT. It's a humble truck, but it's got a lot of meaning to me. It used to belong to my Grandpa, who drove it to work at the paper mill for years. He, my Dad, and I used to ride around Mount Vernon, WA when I was very small. When he died a few years ago, the Ranger was passed on to my Dad. He used to pick me up from my apartment and we'd drive around town in the Summer. When my Dad passed last year, the truck sat at my Mom's for a few months, not being driven due to an issue with the transmission gear lever. One day I finally made myself jerry-rig and then take it around the block to run the engine and put some new gas in it. It somehow felt like I was back with my Grandpa and my Dad again. I've been driving it ever since. I'm currently (albeit slowly) working on getting it back to its original glory, and when it's finished I want to put it in a music video on my channel. In the 32 years it's been in my family, the only thing that ever stopped it from running was needing new spark plugs. I highly recommend one of these. I don't think I could ever sell this one though. Thanks for the nostalgia trip, James. Hope everyone is well and safe. We'll all get through this no matter how crazy it feels. ❤️

Very humble truck and so many memories of when i was growing up sitting in that passenger seat. I could never sell it , it will eventually be passed down to my kids if they want to keep it.

I've had 21 Jeep Cherokees and I agree that they are easy and cheap to work on. As a plus, most of mine where under $1000, three of them where free and 5 where under $500 all 4X4. Most had simple issues that needed fixed and the parts are everywhere, especially the junkyards, the HUGE downside is if you are in the salt belt they rust like hell. They make good daily drivers and great off-roaders (better if you don't care about them) and not too bad on gas.
I also like the 2nd gen dodges, good off-road with the 5 link front end but again they rust like hell in the salt belt and the interior is trash and the trans is also a hit or miss. If you are like me and need a truck to tow the V10 is great and usually really cheap, I got mine for $1900, however the fuel mileage is bad and parts are starting to get hard to come by.

I bought by bare bones ranger 2.5L new in 1998 for 11k. Crank window and stick shift. My 16 year old son drives it now and it still runs great.

Just condemned one today. Needs timing chains and phasers, has a bottom end knock, and a broken exhaust stud at only 127,000 miles. I'm glad the customer declined the work. I like money, but I hate to see people waste it.

@@noir-kx8ku Ford, Ford did when they made them 8mm studs holding cast iron to aluminum, and expected the manifold to hold up the exhaust with basically no extra brackets.
My 2002 Ford Expedition with the 5.4 just reached the end of its life with 300,ish miles on it no major issue we’ve had since brand new and that was on original engine and transmission with out rebuilding them. You need to take care of them and do all the preventative maintenance and they do great. Very please with my 5.4 also used it to haul trailers across country multiple times.
manage a fleet of construction trucks mainly of fords and gmcs. Average age of our 5.4 super duty trucks is 17 years and the average mileage of 220,000 miles. People who talk crap about fords are butthurt chevy and Toyota owners. I honestly don't know why, GM makes good trucks too they just leak everywhere. Toyotas have cheap C-frames and are truly meant to be suburban garage queens.

This is the year 2020. I bought my used 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo in 2003 and I still have it. A little beat up, but still looking pretty good! Just had some transmission repair done and I just reached 125,000 original miles! I had 2 other vehicles; Dodge Caravan and Dodge Ram after becoming I'll with a brain tumor and Heart Failure; (2010 & 2011). The Dodges are gone, but the Jeep is still rolling strong. Once the fender and rear bumper is replaced, plus some minor interior work, I can repair it to look like new! Love my Jeep!

Damn, here in Texas we def call CERTAIN SUVs trucks. Example: Rav4 or 4Runner? Not a truck. A Sequoia? That's a Tundra with a topper on it. Excursions and certain Expeditions also fit in this category.

11:00 My dad has a 350 powerstroke and it has easily pulled well over 24000 pounds for the past 15 years, they are honestly one of the best trucks of all time and the powerstroke diesel makes 500ft pounds of torque. 10/10 would recommend

Looks wise these were not bad looking trucks, but that Japanese steel is no match for a good ol' fashion New York winter and road salt!! In fact a friend of mine and I stopped to look at a truck he liked and there up under the bed liner is where I pointed out that there was less bed and more liner than the truck originally came with!! In fact (as Derrick would say) "the weight reduction was at an all time high!", because the truck had no more metal left as a "floor" of the bed to speak of!! And it only got worse the closer we looked at it, because there had to be at least 500 cans of bondo making up the rest of the body as well!! Sure it looked spectacular at about 200 yards away with a fresh coat of paint it wore!!

@@ethanb8048 Many people consider BOF vehicles trucks. However, some people even call rigs like my jeep WJ a truck even though it's unibody. I don't really have an issue with people calling SUV's that are on a truck frame trucks (Toyota Tacoma, Sequoia, etc), so I usually just use "pickup" to describe a truck with a bed. I feel like it's not super important regardless, but there were definitely more SUV's than I expected on this video.
