Oh Mark. After these past 16 months of refitting your “cat”, I am so very proud of what you have done to her! I have been following since the original “Wildlings” days and watched how you’ve handled your life’s twists and turns. Your abilities to move on and better your self with this new boat has shown us all what a terrific man you are! Your parents are so rightfully proud of the man you are, assisting you in so many ways! So looking forward to the upcoming adventures. Congrats sir and BRAVO!
You should reach out to some of the various sailmakers out there and see if they'll sponsor a set of sails for you. I bet proper geometry sails would make a world of difference!
You have done it! Your sailing, you have grown your skills enough to get yourself out of a pickle, and you should be very proud of your accomplishment. You say it's taken a long time. However, from my armchair perspective, you did a lot of work in a reasonable time frame. You have a great family dynamic, and I know you've made your mom and dad very proud. Bravo Mark Bravo
Mark, my absolutely favourite videos are the ones when your parents visit! your mum is an absolute GEM and such a sweetheart and your dad is the most DAD dad ever, technically a genius with just the most amazing amount of skill, talent & knowhow. keep up the amazing work mate! happy sailing!
Tie some 3mm line on the top of the jib. Pass it down through each of the hanks to a block at the bottom then under the deck back to the cockpit. Free the halyard, pull the 3mm line and tie it off. It brings the jib to the deck and holds it there. Who needs roller reefing!
Mahi is finally doing what she was meant to do. Sailing instead of rotting in mud. You gave her new life with a lot of hard work and effort and she’ll repay you with lots of wonderful adventures in faraway places.
This is the most chilled video I've ever seen of yours. Even the music took a big back seat. Enjoy the transition from DIY back to what floats your boat the most. You've earned it.
Well done mate. Just those few improvements you made while your folks were there made the world of difference. How cool. I’ve anchored or moored our boat possibly 2 dozen or more times since we bought her but never sailed onto or off anchor. Bravo
What a smile on our faces when the engines went silent for the first sail. That lost crock was a cheap lesson for those expensive seats and gear just floating round on an unblocked deck. Might be time for some web fence round the boat. good job. just love watching even the mistakes remind me of myself.
I admire your perseverance, bringing zombie boat back to life. As well the support from your parents is amazing. What a glorious feeling with wind in your sails.
Well done, Mark, and Mum @ Dad can't wait to watch you on your journey I followed you from the start I couldn't wait for Friday night's to watch your post's I wish you and your Mum @ Dad all the very best in all your journeys keep up the great post's. 👍😍🏴
If you want a cheap (almost ready made ) wheelhouse look amongst yacht demolition sites and just get the wheelhouse from a scrapped hull, lots to choose from.
Congratulations to completing your project and the first sail. Just one small thing: Leaving fenders over the side when you are under way is the nautical equivalent of having your fly open.🤫🤭
I love the idea that you think you might be lazy. I'd come over and show you what lazy really looks like, if only it weren't too much effort! Great job!
Congratulations, Mark, you deserve every success with your venture. And it's an enjoyable journey following your progress online. Pleased you sorted a wheel with greater mechanical advantage! Looks cool too. Trusting your shackles are moused, so the pins can't move. Take your wonderful folks on a voyage, they surely deserve it! Best wishes😊.
Wooo Hoooo! I’ve been watching since you almost bought that cat in (around) South America and this episode is the icing on a very well baked cake! Congratulations Mark!
Very good and very well done. Nice that Mum and Dad share in it all as well. The radial cut Yankee jib is lovely, giving you excellent visibility forwards. Having hanks is also good, it'll drop so much easier. Just one thing...... WATCH OUT FOR WEAR ON YOUR DYNEEMA FORE STAY, CAUSED BY FRICTIONAL WEAR FROM THE BRASS HANKS. IN THE FUTURE IF THIS IS AN ISSUE JUST FIT A METAL FOR STAY. Enjoy sailing Andrew
Today’s ep. I like 👍 Took some time but admit I am impressed. You been working hard and never lost temper. That is admirable. Keep up the good work. Mum & Dad is always fun to watch. Fair winds ! Hasta la vista 😂
As far as can be seen there is room for an even bigger wheel. Strongly recommend to install the biggest one possible. You will appreciate it as soon as you commence serious sailing.
Well done mate. Now if you head out from the Netherlands, in a westerly direction, and at a certain point where you deem to be safe, take a sharp turn to port and head down on a southerly course, without stopping, you're well on the way to getting to the southern islands of the Pacific triangle. That's us ,Nz.!! You have the perfect craft for the Pacific...of course. So that will be my cue to panic, and restock my beer fridge, in time for your arrival. 🍺🍺🍺🍻 Thank you for sharing. And I'll see you when I see you. 👍
Hi Mark, I must say you have the best parents that any man would want. They just absolutely love you and love what you are doing, your parents are always there helping you and your mum is always doing something around the boat. Also your father is always helping you just wonderful. You should appreciate them as much as you can. I lost my father in 1988, and then my mother in 2002 and still miss them every day. Keep up the good work from Australia.
Did a good job my man you got a sailboat finally you need to Pat yourself on the back you deserve it nice seeing your family happy family happy times mom and dad are the real deal really happy for you❤❤❤😊😊 love the channel see you next week
Mainsail up ✅ well that was a good shake out trail sail, now you know what you need to go further, cleats and pullys, compared to where you started you're almost ready for the channel crossing 👍 big well done, and as always great to see your parents again, good on you for making them not work 👍
Fantastic, Mark! Really positive steps, taking it easy and checking your work. Your mum and dad, as always, a real bonus feature of your videos! Looking forward to more wind and waves. You’ll be happy to have changed that wheel!
I’m so happy for you Mark. Well deserved sail. Yes to sailing, yes to exploring. Fix as you go! After a year of repairing our boat on the hard, we finally are back in the water. Again, congratulations!
Mark, please build a storage area on the deck. You’re going to lose everything that isn’t attached or stored. Your phone will be the first thing to slide away.
Best episode yet! So good to see you sailing and having fun out on the water with your parents. All the hard work is starting to pay off and its so good to see. I was so glad to see you replace that Ferrari steering wheel 😂
What a great video. Awesome to see you slide over the Markermeer with the bing honk of epic sailing beast that this ship has become. Congrats on this absolute legendary achievement! And thanks for taking us along for the ride.
I've been lucky in my life to celebrate the personal goals i've set and acheived. They have been humble and small (to some) goals. However, i've been able to recognise that i've reached them and celebrated them. This has given me great memories and satisfaction in my journey through life. This is a huge one Mark! I hope you are patting yourself on the back and celebrating this one - amazing mate. Huge love to your ma and pa - its always a pleasure to see them on your videos. Can't wait for the travelling sage of your journey! Big love, Ringo
When you first started this project I was thinking "man, this guy is nuts, that thing's never going to sail!" I was wrong about everything except you still are a mad lad hahaha 💙
Some of us, maybe just me, look forward to your videos. I've been following for years now and I still look every weekend for a new upload. I guess I'll deal with every other week uploads. Keep going man, and yeah, get a boom.
Brilliant Mark, all your hard work has been paying off. Also, my wife and I have been watching you for years and I have to say, your mum and dad are amazing. They make me smile every time I see them. Keep up the great work buddy 👍
What a fabulous milestone! Memories are made of days like these. Well done! Mainsail would benefit from a boom, open sea will probably mean some weather shields necessary but looking great.
Outstanding production. Authentic expansive cinematography combined with a labour of love and irreplaceable friendship. Not a bad little formula for success. Bravo
fabulous Mark.....Mahi looks beautiful under sail, a few more sea trials, and you are free to finish off your work where ever you please. Congratulations, your hard work has paid off .....cheers
PVC Trim can be useful as Battens and can be found at home center. They won’t swell when wet or break as they are quite bendy to allow the sail to take shape.
Well done Mark enjoyed nice to see the boat sailing your parents are stars for what they do for you you have come a long way from when you was thinking of getting your own boat your doing great a big well done to you
A boom should be a high priority I think. That wheel looks much more in keeping. Good to see you getting a bit of pleasure again after the hard work and sharing it with the parents ❤
Marvelous sailing. 🤗 So glad to see your Mom & Dad able to visit with you. They are wonderful to help you with so many things. Bless them for all they do. Happy to see everyone having a good time. Fair winds, cheers, ⛵🐬🐕 S/V Cork~Texas 🇺🇸
So pleased for you after all your hard work !!!! I must admit when you first went on board 16 months ago l was talking to the TV saying don't buy that its mission impossible but you've proved me wrong & have your dream boat !! WELL DONE 👏
If you want stiffer battons maybe consider wrapping them in fiberglass ribbon (like the handle bars of a racing bicycle) and then cover that with epoxy ressin. That way they will also be water resistant. And stiffer.
Agreed, they will break in the first strong wind, especially without a boom. Unidirectional glass with a tube over best. Plastic water pipe perhaps the best cheapo option. But still worth getting proper ones.
Nice job. You earned it! I think the dyneema headstay will be fine. I intentionally let my dyneema windvane control lines chafe against an aluminum track to test and it lasted over two years with just some light fraying. Wore a notch in the aluminum though. Tough stuff.
before you go get a boom, I reckon try a bit more halyard tension, and different sheeting angles. A boom has an outhaul so the sail is pulled out, then the sheet pulls it down. If you don't have a boom, you need to pull the sail out with the mainsheet, so a mainsheet much further back than you would have with a boom, probably on the aft crossbeam.
I have been watching your channel for a long time!! When you started this project, I didn't realize you would be my most antisaped channel! I sooo excited for you!! I wish I could have helped. Give your mom and dad huge hug! Without them, you would have failed. Jk
Congratulations Mark - and Marks Parents!! You guys are an absolute dream team - such lovely people. I’m so pleased for you to finally be in the water - you deserve to be happy buddy 👍👍👍
It's always a pleasure when Mary and your father come for a visit!!! I think beforehand the weather turns nasty you should definitely head towards home and ask mom and dad to help you finish up every on Mahi so that she's ready 💯.. Every day you spend not doing the big jobs there's several little things that go undone and before long you will need to spend another 6 months plus on the hard.. plus your parents are really good at doing things properly the right way the first time which is far cheaper..
not pushing a video a week is fine, if there is nothing to share then there is nothing to make a video about. Do try to use the community feature on youtube though, like just a small update a week and if there is a video or not. that would be awesome
I agree, posting when it's pleasant for you, Mark, really shows off your creativity, video production and cinematographic skills. When possible, I'll support you on Patreon and follow you on Instagram if I need more timely updates. Stay stress free and be well❣
So glad to see your folks back. Always a blast when they're around. Nice not just to be cleaning for mom. New wheel looks perfect. The old man does look like Harrison Ford😄. Well done Mark. You're going to have a lot of great memories with this boat.
Man I am happy for you ! You overcame some situations and you’re sailing again . Your folks are bad ass for real and you obviously got a lot of good traits from them . Congratulations.
Well done Mark, Mom and Dad.... As always you give me inspiration and hope while I'm midway through a refit.... Just one thing Mark: when you go up the mast have yourself attached to 2 lines, one as a back up Very ultra cool you are sailing 👍👍🥳💪
Face forward voyager. You have proven yourself to be an excellent version of yourself. M+D seemed to delight in being on the boat, and your love for each other is palpable. x
Well done. Here some tips: put a larger steering wheel, fix well the planks before you have your first storm with waves, construct a steering house to protect y against sun and rain… keep boat tidy and well organized and last but not least… cut hairs😂 happy sailing!
Don't forget, it is a Wharram double canoe, not a shiny, fancy modern cat. It is supposed to be a bit rough on the edges, not to organized. And long haired skippers are the norm. Some of the good examples and inspiration of the Wharram philosophy are Hans Klaar, Kiana Weltzien, Glenn Tieman.
HOLY SH*T MAN!!!!!! I'm stoked! So happy to see her finally sailing. Hell yeah!! I'm happy for you. Sweet!! 😁 The world is now your oyster for sure. Awesome. Great to see the folks again as usual.
The boat is looking good. As for sail trim, the main sail looks like it needs the downhaul set a little tighter. That would eliminate the wrinkles at the forward area. A boom would allow you to set the Outhaul and thus trim the sail. You could de-shape it in heavier winds. It would also be easier to use the reefing points. I would suggest looking into running all the sheets to the cockpit. It would be critical to have when single handing in heavy seas. A couple of rope clutches and a winch or two.
Great episode Mark, thank you. You have accomplished a lot these past months and should be very proud. The new wheel looks proportionately better than the last. Fair Winds.
Mark, you have the best parents. I love it when they feature on your videos. Love supporting this channel.
Absolutely!
Thanks SO much Matt🤗⛵️
Agreed his mother and father are the best. They have such a great attitude.
@Mrflynlow .... Thank You, that means SO much 🤗⛵️🤗
Your Mom and Dad get my vote for the parents of the year, so cool.
🤗⛵️🤗⛵️🤗⛵️🤗
Nice to see you actually sailing the boat with Mom and Dad on board. Congratulations. Everyone's hard work is paying off.

I vote for this!
100%
I’ve sent him multiple emails for this but no reply
Talk to Kemp!
Try Precision Sails they sponsor a lot of Vloggers. BTW well done with your project have fun sailing
Love your Mum and Dad! You’re all fortunate having each other…….. congratulations on all your achievements!
Well done Mark!!! You did it!!! All your hard work has paid off. You should be so proud of yourself. 🎉🥳🍾

In the Vinkeveen shop, all the way in the back next to the used sails department there's a ton of sail-battens.
Following you for the last 3 years. What an amazing path you’re on. There no limit to the horizon. You make me smile every episode.
Ahh thanks so much! Yeah it feels great to be free!
I admire your perseverance, bringing zombie boat back to life. As well the support from your parents is amazing. What a glorious feeling with wind in your sails.

Yes! A bigger wheel! I think you’ll love it. Congrats on the first sail.
Wooo Hoooo! I’ve been watching since you almost bought that cat in (around) South America and this episode is the icing on a very well baked cake! Congratulations Mark!
You MUST exchange the bronze with soft shackles on your jib! It will chaeff on the dyneema. I have a protection on the forestay and soft shackles.
Mark, well all I can say is congrats! Your consistent efforts toward this goal is amazing to watch. May the wind stay favorable for your future!
Very good and very well done. Nice that Mum and Dad share in it all as well.

Definitely, although this is a big improvement.
Or just tillers and a tiller bar, so much more practical and natural to use…it is not a motor boat (sorry Dad)
Well done mate. Now if you head out from the Netherlands, in a westerly direction, and at a certain point where you deem to be safe, take a sharp turn to port and head down on a southerly course, without stopping, you're well on the way to getting to the southern islands of the Pacific triangle. Congrats! I remember when I first came across your channel and saw the condition of your boat. It needed a lot of work and you got it all done. :)
I’m so happy for you Mark. Well deserved sail. Yes to sailing, yes to exploring. Fix as you go! After a year of repairing our boat on the hard, we finally are back in the water. Again, congratulations!
We had a big 😂😂😂 when your mum was dancing!!
Mark, please build a storage area on the deck. You’re going to lose everything that isn’t attached or stored. Your phone will be the first thing to slide away.
Well done, Mark, a fantastic achievement to get sailing again. And hats off, too, to your amazing parents, they really are the best!
Best episode yet! So good to see you sailing and having fun out on the water with your parents. All the hard work is starting to pay off and its so good to see.
I was so glad to see you replace that Ferrari steering wheel 😂
You did it mate! It’s summer and you’re sailing 😎 Nicely done, couldn’t be more stoked for you 🤙
I love seeing your mom & Dad they must be so Proud
Thank you Mark for this beautiful video with your lovely parents! Grtz. from the Flevopolder
Mom and dad putting on the finishing touches….. you did it, sailing at last. 👍🏼
Bravo! What a delight to see your delight after all of the work that you have put into this project.
What a great video. Awesome to see you slide over the Markermeer with the bing honk of epic sailing beast that this ship has become. Congrats on this absolute legendary achievement! And thanks for taking us along for the ride.
Looking good bra. You are so much more relaxed in this video, mom and dad are good people always enjoy seeing them on your video

Seriously impressed - that was one hell of a project. it was one step from the grave . Need a boom though
When you first started this project I was thinking "man, this guy is nuts, that thing's never going to sail!" I was wrong about everything except you still are a mad lad hahaha 💙
Love it when a plan comes together. Congratulations. Enjoying the channel. Tks for sharing.
I'm a long time viewer but this is my first comment here: congrats Mark! enjoy it! you deserve it!
Eyyy! Cheers mate!
Some of us, maybe just me, look forward to your videos. I've been following for years now and I still look every weekend for a new upload. I guess I'll deal with every other week uploads. Keep going man, and yeah, get a boom.

fabulous Mark.....Mahi looks beautiful under sail, a few more sea trials, and you are free to finish off your work where ever you please. Congratulations, your hard work has paid off .....cheers
Wow your cat is really great in those lite winds just "ghosting" along! Well done!
PVC Trim can be useful as Battens and can be found at home center. They won’t swell when wet or break as they are quite bendy to allow the sail to take shape.
Mark you have come a long way from day one and the upas and downs of life but look at you now way to goooooooo
Well done Mark enjoyed nice to see the boat sailing your parents are stars for what they do for you
you have come a long way from when you was thinking of getting your own boat your doing great a big well done to you
You can tapper a little bit the front half of the battems to get a better sail shape!
A boom should be a high priority I think.
That wheel looks much more in keeping.
Good to see you getting a bit of pleasure again after the hard work and sharing it with the parents ❤
Mark well done for the work you have done, respect to the hippee parents, enjo sailing
Well done Mark. Great to see you looking so happy ! Cheers Ray😊
Marvelous sailing. 🤗 So glad to see your Mom & Dad able to visit with you. They are wonderful to help you with so many things. Bless them for all they do. Happy to see everyone having a good time. Fair winds, cheers, ⛵🐬🐕

If you want stiffer battons maybe consider wrapping them in fiberglass ribbon (like the handle bars of a racing bicycle) and then cover that with epoxy ressin. That way they will also be water resistant. And stiffer.
Yer round them off shape them a little and laminate them
Agreed, they will break in the first strong wind, especially without a boom.
Unidirectional glass with a tube over best.
Plastic water pipe perhaps the best cheapo option.
But still worth getting proper ones.

Great work fella … love your mum and dad they are great fun
before you go get a boom, I reckon try a bit more halyard tension, and different sheeting angles. A boom has an outhaul so the sail is pulled out, then the sheet pulls it down. If you don't have a boom, you need to pull the sail out with the mainsheet, so a mainsheet much further back than you would have with a boom, probably on the aft crossbeam.
can probably get a bit more tension with a block and tackle, or raise the sail then pull the bottom down (aka, a "cunningham")
I have been watching your channel for a long time!! When you started this project, I didn't realize you would be my most antisaped channel! I sooo excited for you!! I wish I could have helped. Give your mom and dad huge hug! Without them, you would have failed. Jk

Face forward voyager.

Don’t cut your hair Mark. Granny’s orders.xx
I love it when a plan comes together.❤😂
Congratulations Mark. Hope you and your lovely parents have plenty of happy sails in the future. Cheers.
You need a windex on top of the mast so you can see where the wind is and how close hauled you are. Plus when you buy cleats get big ones!
Living the dream, how fortunate and blessed to have both parents with you. Being a safe sailor with make you a safe captain. 💐
Great episode Mark, thank you. You have accomplished a lot these past months and should be very proud. The new wheel looks proportionately better than the last. Fair Winds.
Congratulations on your sailing adventure. You earned it. Enjoy! Fair winds. Can’t wait for videos going forward.
