I don’t know if Scott realized this, but there’s actually a ton of secret codes in the Mario Maker ideas book that unlock a bunch of Easter eggs in the ingame manual. I can’t remember all of them, but I do remember there being a video of Koji Kondo performing world 1-1 on a piano, and Miamoto signing his name. There are even a few that show ingame Easter eggs, like a tutorial on how to play the fly swatter game. It’s not a super important detail, but I think it adds a lot to the otherwise lacklustre manual Edit: I went back and tried a few of these, and realized that the signature one isn’t just Miamoto, Tezuka also does his own signature. If you want to see it for yourself, the code is the release date of the original Super Mario Bros, 13 09.
Scott’s Japanese Wii U is one of kind because it has a digital version of Mario Maker and it is impossible to digitally download Mario Maker for Wii U anymore.

One, people were still playing Mario Maker on Wii U and having a blast and removing a core feature is just so painful for thousands of people! Two, Nintendo is still keeping up the servers for several other Wii U games and it makes very little sense to target this game in specific, when I am sure keeping all of those servers up costs tons of dollars too! I believe that the primary reason why they removed the ability to upload is because Super Mario Maker 2 wasn’t as successful as the original Mario Maker and Nintendo wanted to target the Wii U game in specific so that they can push more people into buying that version. It’s the same old sleazy thing Nintendo has been doing with the Wii U for the past few years now, we’ve seen them do it with Donkey Kong Country and Pikmin 3 and we are seeing them do it again with Super Mario Maker. The only reason Nintendo is still keeping the servers up for games like Smash 4, Splatoon, and Mario Kart 8 is because the Switch versions are doing extremely well and the Wii U is just no competition.
We had Wii Karaoke U in Europe. It was a really stupid application, where you had to pay subscribtion to access songs to sing. Not that you would want to, the interface looked like something from the early 90s PC xD It was discontinued a long time ago.
Y’know, there are a few Japanese exclusives on the Wii U that Scott can now play. For instance, the Yakuza collection, Taiko no Tatsujin, Dragon Quest X Online, Yo-Kai Watch Just Dance, and a few exclusive eShop titles, including virtual console. I know Mother 3 is on Wii U in Japan.

It makes sense that this was a Japan exclusive because Yo-Kai Watch satirizes so many Japanese elements and is much more popular in Japan because of it! However, I find this game interesting because it’s the only Yo-Kai Watch related game on the Wii U and it’s so obscure, while the 3DS was practically drowning in Yo-Kai Watch games!
According to google translate, it was kicking you out of Nintendo TV because you need a Nintendo Network ID. (It was awesome using the google translate camera, and seeing the translations, with Scott being "WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?!!")

The codes in the idea book were used for video tutorials, and they even had some hidden ones in the book that showed you neat stuff. One of my favorites was a q&a about the development, but there’s a whole lot more too, like miyamoto drawing a picture of Mario, and koji kondo playing the smb1 theme on the piano

I rescued a rental model original first generation Wii, and it was actually a lot of fun going through and seeing all the Mii characters that were made on it, it was at the limit. Gave me a good variety of characters as opponents in Wii sports.
Speaking of that Wii U Gamepad stand, I was watching his Scott's Stash video on the Wii U 2013 brochure and he mentioned that the Game Pad stand that doesn't charge the console can be used for standing your phone instead. I dug mine up and put my phone in it and it actually worked perfectly!

i translated the text at 19:41 about the joysticks. It basically says that when the console is turned on, the joysticks are calibrated in a "natural position" and if you start it with a joystick moved to the side, it will mess up the controls.

Absolutely right about the Refurbished Wii Us. I actually got a refurbished Wind Waker Edition. This was back when the refurbished models actually had custom boxes made. Now, they're just brown boxes with a sticker.
Well this was a surprise and is really cool. This also outbeats my pre-owned Deluxe Wii U (my first/only Wii U which I got in 2018) where the user had Wii Sports Club and Brain Age on it so it was barely used and had a few scratches. But its great.

The main reason JoySound wasn't brought over to the west was because while the software is owned by Nintendo, the music library is not. JoySound is basically an online Karaoke service/library that companies in Japan can license, whether stores or developers, And Nintendo licensed it for the Wii U in Japan, and even on the Switch.
