Hate it all you want, but the Wii U is the reason the Switch exists. Without it, we never would have seen the Switch at all, and it's clear that the Wii U was a necessary stepping stone.

Star Fox Zero doesn’t exist then, that’s probably fine
2016, a year that rivaled 2020 in terms of badness. Only Scott can make that year better.
We got Animal Crossing, a matching Switch, a new Hyrule Warriors, Clubhouse Games, and a bunch of new Mario stuff. Granted, a lot of "new" games were ports, but at least they're good games.
The best thing Nintendo fans had in 2016 was waiting for the current console to finally die out.
this year is honestly pretty alright, and there is actually a _reason_ for the lack of games

2020 has been sunshine and rainbows compared to 2016 for nintendo, its far worse in general

3DS had a nice 2016, Fire Emblem Fates, Final Fantasy Explorers, Project Cross Zone 2, Oasis, Sun and Moon, Monster Hunter, funny how this guide doesn't mention that at all.

I worked at Target during the holiday 2016 season and I remember vividly the Sun & Moon theming around the store (including drink/popcorn packaging) and NOTHING else being pushed

Weird that they ignored Twilight Princess HD, that came out in 2016.
Fire Emblem Fates too, although Fire Emblem wasn’t AS mainstream, so it makes sense. Twilight Princess HD didn’t.

I don't understand why this guide didn't mention Twilight Princess HD once when it released in March 2016, but yet Windwaker HD is in this guide like 4 times and that released in 2013

Mostly hell, we did get Kirby Planet Robobot out of it, that was a good thing, and I think Yoshi’s Wooly World as well
Yoshi's Wooly World came out in late 2015, the early 3DS port came in 2017(right before switch came out). They might as well had ported Pokken tournament to the 3DS and only advertise the 3DS.

They stopped making them after the Wii U era ended I haven’t seen a holiday gift guide of any form for any switch related stuff

My mom bought the 2DS when it was 80 plus Alpha Sapphire for my little brother.
That 80 dollar discount was a crazy good idea by Nintendo.

So.fun fact about the 2016 Mario Amiibo. I think I saw this back when Mario Party 10 was first released that there was some sort of Nintendo interview I believe and they had the Wario, Waluigi, Rosalina and Donkey Kong amiibo on the table in front of them and they showed them off. I forget where I saw it but it's strange that it took Nintendo 2 years to release such basic amiibo. Also Nintendo came up with an incentive to get people to buy the Animal Crossing figures by allowing people to play an Animal Crossing version of Puzzle League and a 3ds port of Desert Island Escape
There's something strangely beautiful about how Animal Crossing Amiibo were flopping due to Amiibo Festival's poor sales, like hardcore and casual audiences wordlessly united in agreement that Amiibo Festival was garbage.
