My single mum worked her ass off in shitty jobs so she could save enough to get me a GBA. She knew how much I wanted one but I never thought we could afford it (we were pretty poor). I remember she just turned to me one day in the middle of the supermarket and asked “so what colour Gameboy do you want?”
I was so happy I thought my heart would burst. It was the first time I ever felt like one of the normal kids that had money. One of my most treasured memories, and such an amazing console. Love you, mum ❤️

The fact he's hoping for a potential "Golden Sun 3" when Dark Dawn came out almost a decade ago now says everything you need to know about this series.

In general, most Golden Sun fans don’t count Dark Dawn.
It’s a good game, but it’s very forgettable unlike the first 2.
Fallensoldier420 the gameplay was good there was just too much dialogue in the game to the point where I nodded off, dropped my ds and broke a hinge because of it. Hopefully there will be a 4th game in the series
Steve Steve Agreed! I bought it on release, and still have it, and still hate that cliffhanger ending... but’s a running theme in games I’ve played recently... Megaman Legends 2 comes to mind.

A very fine list sir. Personally, my favorites on the system will always be the Advance Wars and Fire Emblem games. Intelligent Systems won a life-long fan in me during this handheld's lifespan.

Least favorite mechanic in the series
I liked it. It added a random element to gameplay, something that always got me curious, thinking what would be the next prize i would get.
Worst mechanic was definitely the seashells.

Zero mission was an entirely new metroid game based on the events of the nes game. The Completionist was surely on the pipe when he wrote this script.
Super Mario World was better on the SNES

I’ll be honest: the linearity is why I love Metroid fusion. I’m not a Metroidvania guy, but I love the aesthetics of Metroid, so Fusion was right up my alley
My personal favorite GBA game is Astro Boy: Omega Factor. That game is so good and so overlooked.

I really loved the DBZ trilogy. They were an actual RPG where you can play through the entire series setpieces on the handheld. A memoir from my childhood.

Man Final Fantasy advance tactics was really an amazing game. Where most GBA games really do feel like they belong on a handheld console with its limited processing power, tactics just felt like a whole premium experience and holds up with no drop in quality today.
First Final Fantasy game, the angst in the story, developing tactics, and the ninja double swords! 😋
God the GBA was such a great platform. Solid entries to Sonic, Megaman, Zelda, Metroid, Castlevania, Fire Emblem and Pokémon franchises while featuring a slew of SNES remakes (you can play every pre-7 Final Fantasy except 3 on this platform!), and Wario's greatest achievement: Wario Land 4 for the Gameboy Advance. That thing was truly a beast for what it was. The wildest thing in all this is that it only has two face buttons and two trigger buttons.

Watching Isaac (also my name) summon a translucent sword called Ragnarok was one of my first nerdgasms in life. Behind Red showing up in Gold/Silver.
Even though I played it on an emulator, nothing will compare to the sheer enjoyment when I first played Mother 3. The setting, the music, the gameplay, everything was perfect.
Played it during quarantine and I found out quickly why it's so beloved. What a beautiful game.
Pokémon mystery dungeon should be on here. Implemented the entire Pokémon battle system into a dungeon crawler. You could find pretty much every Pokémon up to that time with their full move sets and abilities.

My favorite is the Minish Cap, mostly because of how colorful it is, and the fact that it has that classic 2D Zelda Gameplay.
A VERY close second is Superstar Saga.

Was the very first Zelda game I ever played which oddly was only a few years ago. Which lead me to then play Link to the Past then Ocarina of Time then the 2 DS games and then finally bought a N3DS and bought Link Between Worlds. Still many other great Zelda games I need to play but don't own a Switch yet so can't really play any other Zelda titles until I do. I mean I could emulate Majora's Mask like I did with Ocarina of Time. But I don't think I would enjoy the game to much as the time based gameplay where you only have a certain amount of time to complete things would just drive me insane. Plus I just bought my 3DS so basically anything game I'm gonna be playing for the foreseeable future will be on that system.
As a huge fan of Aria Of Sorrow speedrunning, I think you did this game justice

Superstar saga was a pretty good gba game i like that game for sure.
I kind of have a hatred for Wario Ware games now. Seeing how in my opinion the only reason we haven't gotten a good classic Wario game on a handheld system in almost 20yrs is all due to the success of Ware. Which to me lost all of it's appeal after like the 2nd game. As to me I can only get so much out of the same gimmick done over and over again for like 8 or 9 games. I know some people like Master of Disguise but I couldn't stand the game. Which means I haven't played a good Wario game since Wario land 4. Since like most of the world I never owned a Wii U so never got the chance to play Shake It. DS and 3DS made like 3 Ware games and one shit actual Wario title. So wish instead of 3 Ware games we got one great Wario platformer fuck I would have even been fine with Wario World port like Mario 64 got. As I was to young when the gamecube game out so never got the chance to play that either.
Mother 3 is my favorite game of all time and I will scream into the void until it gets a Western release

Great to finally see Metroid Fusion get more love! Loved it's tone and spooky vibe it always gave me. Big GBA title for me was Pokemon Mystery dungeon red rescue team, would love to see it on the show!
I would've included Zero Mission anyway, it's much more than just a remake.
It's so good. It's also the first time Samus is in her Zero Suit. It's in fact where the name came from. I wonder how many don't even know that.
It's actually a remake whereas the Mario games are basically ports.

@@ZeldasSword Beat me to it! That being said, I never played BtN, but I heard there are significant changes between the two games? But, you're right in that even with changes, it's still a remake. Gotta admit, though, seeing it teased made me happy. I adored that game; was the first in that series that I fell in love with.
@@dianaburn2474 FoMT is a better game overall but with less content. They are similar enough to call a remake, but theres a good handful more cutscenes in BTN, and a few more small differences. The biggest thing missing in FoMT was the food fight festival! That said, honestly the load times in BTN make it not worth playing imo.

Strange to think the remake of that remake is coming in only two weeks! I'm not a big fan of the art direction, but hearing a few clips of the new versions of the songs was lovely. I hope it ends up being a good remake. :)

For me, Mother 3 is my favorite GBA game and this is someone who isn’t the biggest fan of JRPGs.
This game is without a doubt the darkest game I’ve ever played and doesn’t sugarcoat on reality. It shows there’s a lot of really morose shitty things in the world but more importantly there is many things that are beautiful magnificent things in the world that make life living for even with the shit you’ve been through in life.
It’s extremely beautiful of a game.
Gba was such a good handheld. Super happy I had a ds lite when I was younger so I could experience these amazing games.
It had many good games but as a system itself it was not that good unfortunately considering it suffers from many design decisions that heavily limited many games...
@@MynamesMe- only 2 face buttons, lack of backlight (in the original GBA) what made devs make some games lot brighter to be seen better, horrible sound chip that butchered many soundtracks and biggest issue of them all the screen crunch what made so many games lot harder for the wrong reasons if they weren't made that in mind.
Shoutout to Yugioh: Sacred Cards. I don't even know if it compares as a particularly good Yugioh game, but it was a whole lot of fun!
Sacred cards was fun. A lot better than Reshef of Destruction personally.
I had the dice Yu-Gi-Oh! game for the GBA!
Yugioh: The Eternal Duelist Soul was an absolute joy for me. It was just nonstop duels with a growing cast opponents. It even kept track of your wins and losses against each character.
Honestly, it was pretty bad. The whole Pokemon-esque concept of insta-killing monster of a certain attribute was stupid.
But god damn do I love that game.

Advance Wars, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, Wario Land 4 and the other Sonic Advance games were super great, too. You can't create a top 10 of best Game Boy Advance games without leaving out some greats. Great list!

Metroid Fusion is both my favorite GBA game and Metroid. It has amazing atmosphere, bosses and soundtrack. Also I don't think Zero Mission should be banned as a remake because of how different from the original it is.
Agreed on Zero Mission. It's more comparable to modern remakes than the remakes of those days, which were more ports than anything.

sort of, the first two were originally designed as one and split, so in essence golden sun and the lost age were the first with dark dawn being the second. I would buy another golden sun day 1 no question

Golden Sun 3? That came out in 2011 for the NDS and has a cliffhanger.
Kind of cheap to leave a cliffhanger and then be completely radio silent for the next generations.

@@islandboy9381 Iirc they said they won't continue the series as it was not as commerically successful as they hoped for. Still kind of a dick move to produce a game with an intential cliff hanger and not even plan to go on with it. I am way happier with the ending of GS2 and not play the third one again.

The Takahashi Brothers in no way have EVER spoke of Golden Sun in terms of it being solely about the money. I do not know where you could have read that from but please educate yourself on what was said back in 2012 and why production of the series had halted for these past few years. It was NOT about money and that only paints the devs in a bad light when they've always put everything in these games for the fans, not to make big bucks for Nintendo. This misinformation, along with the accusations that it was in any way intentionally done, needs to stop.

They never reviewed amazingly despite how unique their gameplay was and how fun the stories were but some of my absolute favorite GBA memories came from playing the Mega Man Battle Network series. Battle Network's Combat system was completely spell binding as a kid. It combined deck building, strategy, and combat in a way that felt so fresh and exciting because no battle ever felt the same. BN3 is probably the best but I think my favorite is BN5 which at times felt like you crammed Fire Emblem levels of tactical strategy into an already great system.

I loved BN2, but BN3 didn't quite mesh for me and I skipped 4, but I have the rarer DS version of BN5 and it is absolutely FANTASTIC! It really deserves more kudos.
battle network was, in my opinion, a very unique game that gets criminally overlooked. it has its issues, especially 4, but I have some great memories of the stores growing up that haven't even been ruined by my pessimistic adult attitude that ruins other nostalgia for me.
Check out one step from eden. It pretty much a spiritual successor to battle network imo.
I would've just filled this whole list up with Battle Network games.
Except 4, nobody likes that one.
And that’s why you’re not a youtuber lol because if you were and would’ve filled up a whole “top 10” list for the GBA with the exact same games of a specific franchise, as the top 10 games for the Game Big Advance overall, it wouldn’t be a good list at all..many of them had issues that pissed off a lot of fans including me that had issues with it’s story and pacing issues, ecspecially when the series had gotten a little convoluted by the 4th entry lol they didn’t want to add any great new features and pretty much because the call of duty of the game big advance era, same exact game just placed in a new area, and didn’t innovate at all with the gameplay, which they wouldn’t need to do if their formula was already great, but it wasn’t and had many issues that they never bothered to address or even try to fix at all lol that and all of its pacing issues made the franchise feel so stale man, this is why I wish someone would just pinch the very tip of your penis until it made a tear fall out of your eye and then twist the tip of your penis so that it would turn purple from the lack of blood circulation and would then cause of internal bruising on it!!! You truly deserve that after all of the text that you wrote on this comment man!!! Smh so greedy

Everyone has diffrent opinions. So even if you don't agree with this person's opinion, it is still theirs and you are allowed to have your own.
In my top 10 I would include some fire emblem, Pokemon, final fantasy tactics, and Castlevania. The Gba has an awesome library.

I'd give the series a slot on the list, but the whole list? only works if each "version" of the split titles got their own spot, and would ignore many other great IP.

I played final fantasy tactics advanced so much as a kid, pouring through the Nintendo power strategy guide using the worm light to read the guide in the back of the car at night. Will always be one of my favorite games period, not just favorite Gameboy advance games.
There's a little lesser known title called Astro Boy: Omega Factor I really enjoy. It's a bit hard, but the adventure is well worth it!
I feel like I only see Sonic Advance 2/3 getting love, thank you so much for putting SA 1 on the list. I feel like so many people haven't played it, it's legitimately my favorite 2D sonic game. I will also say, soundtrack was made for a physical GBA speakers. Unlike a lot of other GB stuff which sounds roughly the same on youtube it really did sound better on the console.

Sonic Advance 1 suffers from the last levels being stupid difficult full of instant deaths, with entire game over if you run out of lives having to start the game all over again. Even completionist admitted to not finishing it despite it being a relatively short game.

Quarantine made me download a GBA emulator and lots of games like Mario Luigi Superstar Saga, Mother 3, Minish Cap and even Fire Emblem. Growing up, I didn't own any Nintendo consoles, heck I don't think it was well-known at the time.
But now that I got my own laptop I can experience these games by myself
All my favorite games for GBA are all of the “Mega Man: Battle Network Games”. Love the shit out of all of them. No one ever talks about them, ever. I would get lost into them. Story’s were wacky and super funny but with dark and serious tones too. And the art style is so good. The combat is creative and hard, but not TOO hard. Except for those secret optional super bosses. Hard asf.
I was obsessed with that series for a while back in middle school. Even now, I wish Net Navi's were real lol.

I still remember that when I got my gba one of my friends gave me a few games since he was moving out and we used to hang out all the time, in that pile of games the Megaman Battle Network franchise was the one that won my heart as a must play if you have a gba, amazing games.

Just letting you know, Golden sun 3 exists, it’s called Golden Sun: Dark Dawn on the DS. That being said it was meant to be a 2 parter but we never got the second half

I’ve been recently getting into the Completionist again, and I have to say these top 10 videos that he does are some of my favorite, really well done!
12:15 - There already is a Golden Sun 3... Golden Sun: Dark Dawn for the DS, which ISN'T as bad as everyone says it is.
Id highly recommend it to any fans, the fact that the game has backtracking walls, meaning you can miss djinns and summons, is a weird double edged sword, it was nice seeing the world change and have that "oh shit" moment when everything came to a head, and it left a LOT open that just ended sadly on a eternal-cliffhanger, the new djinn designs are some of my favorite
Character wise its a 50/50, I like a lot of the new characters, and seeing how the world changed since the golden suns awakening is really nice, but it just felt like they were hiding half of the world and characters behind that favled 4th game. While with the originals they had the entire outside world to explore in the second game
I'd say gameplay its just as good, story was a bit floundering, half the game was just a boring reason, unlike the original in which "oh shit the worlds ending and we need to do something" was established early on, yeah it had the town episodic story that the original had and that definitely helped the padding, but the epicness wasn't there for me
All in all I'd say its a solid 7.5 when the original 2 are high 9's and 10's depending if you had both versions to transfer saves, also there was a brand new summon in the game that was part of the original games marketing which was awesome to see
Oh, yeah, I replay it occasionally to test how much I remember about summons, djinn, and drop item locations
While it isn't a terrible game, it is a disappointment when compared to the first two games.
From having several Points of No Return, introducing characters (Himi) at a point that you've likely already established a well worked team, a main quest (Roc Feather) that keeps being derailed by a variety of more interesting side quests (Vortexes, the Eclipse, etc), only adding a single new summon, having most of the world mapped only to be stuck on one side, text that crawls by even on the fastest setting, and no real challenging fights until near the end of the Game and Post Game.
I will say I did like the Weapon Level system, the puzzles were a lot of fun, the summons using both screens was a nice detail, and the Sol Blade being a Story Related item was a nice idea.
Aside from the "Point of no return" bits it was pretty great. I'm biased to golden sun games since they are by far some of my favorite RPGs but I still think Dark Dawn was an objectively 7-8/10 game. It's a shame that it got such a poor reception because we'll probably never see a forth game and that is definitely depressing. RIP Golden Sun

The Minish Cap is my hands down favorite Zelda game ever. It was a time when we weren't well off and it was the only game I had for a long time. I had 2 profiles at 100% and a third on the way before the battery finally died. Definitely a gem.

I was addicted to Wario Ware when I was a 12 year old. I used to sit on the demo at K-Mart for up to an hour at a time whenever my family would shop there. Played it almost everywhere I went when I got it for christmas.
As an adult I cant get enough Tactics Advanced, I wish they would keep making them.

showed it in the Golden Sun part at least, but you gotta admit the "One Wrong Move and you Lose a Character" playstyle of FE isnt for everyone.
@@UltimateGamerCC Yes I admit it's not for everyone. If you would like my thoughts on this, there are different ways of playing the GBA FE games today.
Yes I can play them on the cartridge but I can also emulators (Or a Wii U since they're on Virtual Console) because they have save states which allows me to back to any save point if I made a mistake.
Plus, if you guys want to know which GBA FE game is the easiest, I would personally recommend Sacred Stones.

@@astraltraveller9988 Sacred stones was very good, but the first one for GBA was way harder since you had no chance to grind except the main story missions. So if you did let characters die you basically wasted previous exp. SS was amazing (shoutout if you got to the top of the tower you couldn't save at) but it was much easier to just grind and plow through. I remember I had 2 characters with max stats by grinding the tower and using the secret shop.
@@zeronamagem8617 Honestly, the bit of XP you're "wasting" doesn't make much of a difference. Almost every single game in the series has been beaten with growths hacked to 0% (aka levels don't give you any stats)on their hardest difficulties. FE7 in particular has even been beaten with negative growths (stats decrease with a level up instead of increasing), so losing a character is far from a death sentence.
