My boss caught me playing A Link Between Worlds at work one day several years ago. Not sure how long she'd been looking for my shoulder watching me. What I do know is that a few days later I caught her playing A Link Between Worlds on her own 3DS at work.
@@kobashk Call Center - years ago _thank God._ One of my friends, who worked at another call center that was open on holidays but management was largely absent, had a co-worker who'd bring in half a dozen portables (gba, ds, 3ds, etc.) on Thanksgiving & Christmas when calls are 1-per-hour for whoever wanted to play.
The 3DS is probably my favorite system of all time. With access to all DS games and the impressive digital library, almost no other system library can compare. The library isn’t only large, it’s diverse. There are bangers for every genre of game. All of this is a portable package.
Outside of Nintendo games the selection certainly feels lot more limited, especially when it came to action games to a point that even Vita had a superior list of third party games to play because how many remastered PS2 games it got, along with being able to play tons of PSP and PS1 games from the Playstation Store.
@@V-Jes I think what the ds/3ds lacks are 2D fighting games and action 3d games. Even tho it has a bunch of monster hunters which you could consider that and they are games that have hours and hours of content.
The 3DS had no business being such a good little system. So good, I own three copies. The original (which was the Ocarina of Time special edition), an XL, and a new! 3DS.
@@V-Jes A modded Vita is capable of so much more as well, handling original Gameboy games, up through GBA games, as well as many other emulators. However, the 3DS holds a special place in my heart, alongside the Vita, and having to choose between them, would be like picking which of my hands are my favorite. Impossible decision.
I recently started playing Kid Icarus Uprising and, apart from needing to take a few breaks to rest my hands, I am shocked with how much fun I'm having with it and I'm bummed that there hasn't been a sequel made since then.
They do make a joke near the end about it taking so long for another kid Icarus game to come out. They poke fun at it taking ~20 years for a sequel since that’s the time it took between the last kid Icarus game and uprising. I might be wrong on how long they said cause it’s been awhile since I last played it
Fire Emblem became one of Nintendo’s larger series thanks to the 3DS. I don’t really play Fates or SoV anymore but I still find myself revisiting Awakening, love that game. If you can step outside of your completionist mindset you’d probably love it
I have only played it on GBA but that really changed my opinion on games and what genres I liked way back then. It blew my mind. Is Awakening the one you'd recommend over the others?
@@guhrizzlybaire is you like gba I would say you would like shadows of valiantia because it is a remake of fe2 and awakening is a good game just is really easy if you play on casual mode and was the game that saved the franchise it is known though for a pretty weak story compared to other games in the series
@@guhrizzlybaire It's my favourite of the three but it really depends what you're looking for. Fates has the most strategic depth in gameplay but by far the worst story and characters. Shadows of Valentia is more like a traditional RPG than an FE game, and Awakening is somewhere in the middle.
I just finished it for the first time and it’s been on my mind ever since, its a game i’m willing to replay since towards the end i started figuring out end game apotheosis and started building kids too late. I played fates when i was too young to understand the nuance and awakening just felt like the namesake- it really opened my eyes and got me invested in each and every character, their interactions with each other, and keeping them alive at whatever cost, having a soft spot for the robins because of the smash games and Especially female Morgan because of how nicely clingy she was :3
The beautiful thing about the 3DS is that you can have 2 or even 3 top 10 best/favorite games lists from 3 separate people without recurring games and they'll still all be high quality titles that deserve to be in the running for top spot. The 3DS library was a gift that keeps on giving.
Smash on 3DS was a marvel in it's own right. The fact the 3DS could handle it AND at 60FPS on the OG 3DS was absolutely mind blowing to me for the time
I was surprised Kid Icarus: Uprising isn't on here. I think it's the best 3DS game. It's a true masterpiece. Yet again, Sakurai developed this game too, and a lot of his games are gold. He's a very hard worker and has high expectations for his games.
@@pokepokepoke64 I remember being kinda bored with dark moon, but I love 1 & 3. I haven't played dark moon in a long time, but I remember just not being a fan of the separated mansions instead of one main building. I also don't remember any of the enemies being very memorable (aside from king boo, that was fun).
I’d like to give a shout-out to the Yo-Kai Watch series. They’re all fantastic games, and each sequel improves upon the previous installment. The best game in the series, and one of the best games on the 3DS, is Yo-Kai Watch 3. Sadly, since physical copies of 3 are rare, and the eShop is closing down, it’s gonna be very hard to find it.
I own every yo Kai game for the 3ds. I always tell ppl it's better then Pokémon, and they blow me off...until I won't shut up..they borrow one of the games and love it lol. Yo Kai on the 3ds was so underrated. I really hope we get a localization for the switch games...which doesn't seem to be happening anymore.
Unfortunately I think that in a few months the only way to play yo Kai watch 3 or blaster 2 on the 3ds is going to be using a modded 3ds,and not only with these 2 games, but also all the underrated games, which for me are the best(sorry for the bad English,at least,I think is bad)
3DS just felt so special. I didn't expect it but found myself really into Pokémon Sun and Moon. I think Pokémon Refresh was a huge addition to making me attached to my team, and I found myself tearing up in a lst battle when my Mismagus held on to the end for me. I know it ruins the game for some people (the Pokémon holding on has a higher rate of stopping KO than the focus band, apparently but don't quote me on that) but for me it was JUST want i wanted as a jaded almost-30 year old who really just wanted to enjoy the game.
Love the 3DS! Planet Robobot's true arena is one of the most satisfying challenges to overcome across all games. Would be #1 on my personal list. Great memories of playing Smash Run w friends while getting lunch or wutever else.
I think my favourite is probably Fantasy Life. I have spent so many hours maxing out all of the different professions, and the expansion of the game makes it even more enjoyable! It was also great to be able to play in co-op and help friends who were new to the game. I have also had a bunch of fun with Super Mario 3D.
Was surprised to not see Kid Icarus: Uprising on here, as it is my favorite on the system, but I honestly forgot how great the 3DS library is and all your picks are stellar!
Fire Emblem Awakening got me into the series, and as of now I've played every single entry in the series. To say its my favorite 3ds game would be an understatement, as its easily one of my favorite games of all time.
Not mentioned on this list but I'd like to give a shout out to Shin Megami Tensei 4 for being the greatest handheld RPG of all time that game is a masterpiece and it's a shame not more people played it
The fact that I've played SMT4 nearly as much as I played Pokémon Y (competitive battler and breeder back in the day) shocked me to my core. What a banger of a game. Really hoping they'll port it to modern consoles someday soon.
Personal favourite 3DS game is Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology. While it is a remake/remaster of a DS game (Radiant Historia) with updated character sprites and art (not sure how the gameplay changed, if at all) and an entirely new ending due to additional content that's tied to the main story which you can choose to do alongside the main story or wait until you've already beaten the game and then rush through the new content all at once for the completed ending. It has a grid-based, turn-based JRPG battle system in a similar vein to South Park The Fractured But Whole and with certain skills you can make a near-endless combo chain of shoving the opponents around for insane damage. But as a story-based gameplay mechanic it does have a story of time-travel element to it where you can travel between branching timelines based on actions and choices, and even the side characters have different outcomes based on how you handle side-quests or your choices in general which gets really fun trying to unlock. Another story-based gameplay/combat mechanic is with the main character; he can learn some abilities by copying the abilities he sees others pull off, such as Sword-Dancing and Cloaking which will help with certain story-based moments, can be used to unlock paths earlier in the timelines, and even give new techniques for use in combat.
@@Samacalia Radiant Historia was a game in which I only heard of the name and how interesting it was, nothing else about it. While at a convention some years back I came across a stall selling both the DS and 3DS versions of the game and I asked what the difference was. When the seller said the 3DS version had better art and extra content, it was kind of a no-brainer. It turned out to be the only Atlus-made game I can say I actually enjoy.
@@Terranigma23 just checked the release date for the game and the Switch. While I could see the Perfect Chronology version getting put on the Switch, I think the devs considered the touch-screen/dual-screen part too crucial for the game since it was also done with the original DS release.
Kid Icarus Uprising is my favourite game of all time. The combat is fun, the weapons are cool, the characters are funny and layered, and the story and world building is fantastic. It's been half the time there was between the last two games in the series, but I will gladly wait another 10 years to get more Kid Icarus goodness
One of my absolute favorites as well. It's pretty much the game to the 3DS that Mario 64 was to the N64. Nintendo took a forgotten franchise and used it to actually let the characters banter, and it paid off big time for once. Just don't try to complete it, because Sakurai really went hard with the achievements in that one.
the first 3ds game i got was Pokemon X. and my first 3ds was a gift from one of my best friends. we met through our love of pokemon and i mentioned how i was trying to save up for one to play the next pokemon gen, and she then sent me her spare one as a gift. she had recently gotten a 3dsxl and didn't need 2. thanks to her, i got to experience so many great games and i cannot be more grateful for her kindness.
I know why New Leaf isn’t on the list, but still makes me super sad that it isn’t included alongside the other 3DS classics. It’s one of my favorite 3DS games and favorite video games in general.
I was undecided on KH3D for a while, but I’ve loved it more and more each time I play it. It’s currently tied with Birth by Sleep for my favorite KH game.
I admittedly didn’t get a 3DS until my birthday in 2015, but when I did, I bought all 4 Gen 6 Pokémon games alongside it. And when Gen 7 came around, I practically became glued to Pokémon Sun when I could actually play it (I was in college at the time). Heck, the competitive breeding aspect kept me playing it until Gen 8 came out on the Switch!
10. Final Fantasy: Theater Rhythm 9. Kirby Planet Robobot 8. Super Smash Bros For The 3DS 7. Pokémon Sun & Moon 6. Bravely Default 5. Mario & Luigi: Dream Team 4. Mario Kart 7 3. Super Mario 3D World 2. Metroid: Seamus Returns 1. Legend Of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is probably my favorite from the 3DS, as not only was it one of the first 3DS games I ever got, it was also my first Zelda game I ever played. The 3DS introduced me to SO many franchises I never knew about, it’s probably the most important game system for me. Also some other games to shout out that were really important to me on the system were Sonic Generations, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Kid Icarus: Uprising, New Super Mario Bros 2, Dragon Quest 8, and Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance
OOT 3D was also my first Zelda game that I had ever finished so it holds a special place in my heart. Kid Icarus uprising easily makes my top ten too. And Dream drop distance was my true introduction to the madness of kingdom hearts so that holds a special place in my heart(no pun intended)
My personal top 10: 1 - Metroid Samus Returns 2 - Donkey Kong Country Returns 3 - Dragon Quest 8 4 - Zelda A Link Between Worlds 5 - Luigis Mansion Dark Moon 6 - Animal Crossing New Leaf 7 - Fire Emblem Awakening 8 - Pokemon Ultra Moon 9 - Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask 10 - Super Mario 3D Land
YES, DREAM TEAM TOP 5, I know a lot of people has that game in a lower place for the M&L saga, but it’s my favorite M&L, especially the soundtrack, we need the complete M&L saga in “The Completionist”
I love every game you put on the list. My favorite “discovery” for something I never enjoyed before, were the Etrian Odyssey games. The first 3 totally passed me by on the original DS, and when I tried the demo for Etrian Odyssey IV, I was in love
Etrian Odyssey was a welcome surprise when I found it. I never quite played the other games past the first, but there was something really fun about mapping out the dungeons manually as you went through it, made you REALLY familiar with the layout on return trips. Good times!
I had a similar experience. I tried the demo on a whim because it was early 3DS days and I was extremely eager for RPGs. I wasn't sure I'd dig the first person dungeon crawling and battles, but the party customization, the mapping out the dungeons on the touch screen, and then the absolutely stellar OST! The first stratum theme kinda sold me on the game itself. I've since beat IV, V, and Fafnir Knight and have the rest of the series in my backlog.
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team is one of the first 3ds games I played and it is still really great after all these years. I would love to see you play these games on the channel very soon!
When I bought a New 2ds XL some years ago, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Fantasy Life got me back into gaming life, still love it. Playing Radiant Historia now.
My first Zelda game was A Link Between Worlds, have been in love with the series ever since, it's truly amazing! I love the 3DS, mostly because it's so portable and it brings a wave of nostalgia to the "retro" ages. The first 3DS game I bought was Yo Kai Fleshy Souls, but we don't talk about that.
Monster Hunter Generations, I kid you not. This was my introduction to the Monster Hunter franchise and while I was entirely clueless the entire time, it was a huge blast, and it left such a big mark on me that I don’t hesitate to buy whatever next game in the franchise is!
Love dream team such a unique take on the mario and luigi games. I really liked the sticker star one too where they added paper mario too. Managing 3 guys at once was a doozy but so fun
Solid list! A Link Between Worlds definitely deserves the top spot, that game was so fun and refreshing! Kinda expected to see Kid Icarus Uprising on here too, have you played that game?
Did you ever notice that in A Link Between Worlds the music will go from stereo to mono when Link goes to 2D? I also like how Square Enix ported two PS2 games onto the 3DS.
I don't have enough space on my 3ds for the dlc songs sadly. They'll forever be incomplete for me. I love them quite a bit. Project mirai DX was a fun rhythm game on the 3ds as well.
"Mario and Luigi: Dream Team" has been my second favorite compared to the original "Bowser's Inside Story." I am curious to know what you thought of "Paper Jam" since I couldn't get into it.
i was so glad SM made it. i adore those games and while i get why some dont for certain directions they took, i think they’re a lil underrated. great generation
I know it wasn't everyone's favourite but i really loved Metroid Samus Returns a lot (even with its one major flaw, having to counter kill every enemy) i still like AM2R better because of that but a solid remake for 3DS to be sure :)
Stella Glow At first I thought 'Hey it got a Demo Version. Woudn't hurt to try it.' I fell in love with the story, the characters and the music. Also it rewards you with playing it more than once with New Game+, a new (the real) ending and different character endings.
I loved your list! Here's a couple more games I would recommend to others! 1) Shin Megami Tensei - Strange Journey Redux. I know it's a remake of Strange Journey on the OG Ds, but this game is packed with content, amazing atmosphere, and a new twist on Atlus' battle systems of late. I whole heartedly recommend this game to anyone who loves rpgs. Keep in mind that this is a first person dungeon crawler, but personally I believe in better immerses you to the experience. 2) Fire Emblem Echoes - Shadow of Valentia. By far my favorite Fire Emblem game bar none. Great Music. A strong story. Great character development. I never really likes the social Sim aspects of Awakening/Fates, so when I got my hands on this game I immediately fell in love. 3) Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate / Monster Hunter 4 Ultimae. I am biased towards three because it's my favorite in the series but both games are amazing to play. It's good old Monster Hunter. Who doesn't want to hunt bus-sized iguanas?
I recommend 1. The Millennium girl for a hardcore dungeon crawler experience with fixed bugs from the original EO. 2. SMT4A for the most complete SMT experience in a gameplay sense. Hilariously better than 5 as it has full blown character customization for the hero, has a projectile element, and whispering, which is far better than essences. 3. Pokemon ORAS, a fantastic remake with overhauled features from the originals and a new episode. 4. Pokemon crystal VC with the ability to farm Celebi and place everything you've collected out of gen 2 into gen 7 this is more than a simple virtual console rerelease. 5. Pokemon yellow VC, again a great alternative to collect Pokemon from an old generation, and just also have fun playing through the old game again.
Fire Emblem Awakening was my first big encounter with the series as a whole. A friend bought it for me when we were at a GameStop in one of the local shopping malls, and I fell in love with the series instantly. The characters were extremely varied and incredibly charming, I fell head over heels for the Support system (and Matt Mercer lol) and that game really lead me to have a greater appreciation for voice actors and all that they do to make our experiences with games as magical as any treasured motion picture.
i was a freshman in high school when a link between worlds came out and i remember begging for the 3ds xl bundle for christmas. it was the only thing i wanted. feels good to sit here and watch this video all these years later with that exact 3ds sitting on my desk next to me
Made a list of my favorites before watching this to see where things differ. Definitely surprised not to see Kid Icarus, Animal Crossing, or Fire Emblem Awakening, and not surprised it's not there but definitely would have a Professor Layton or Ace Attorney game on my list. Happy to see though that our number ones are the same!
I did my own video on this topic a while back, so it's always great to hear more people talk about the 3DS. Had a great run! Sad that Fire Emblem Fates and Kid Icarus Uprising didn't make it though.
Ocarina of Time 3D was my first on the system and was a blessing for someone like me that didn't get to play it growing up, but CONSTANTLY heard how it is one of the greatest games of all time.
One of my favorite games for the 3DS is "Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology". It takes everything I loved about the original DS game and made it _so much better!_ The graphical style is still pretty much the same, but they added voice acting for all the characters, and the story is greatly expanded to include the idea of "possible timelines" in addition to the 2 timelines your hero Stocke has to traverse in order to bring about "the true future". And if you manage to complete all of the "possible timelines", you'll be treated to fighting a postgame superboss, which is the source of the desertification of the world the game takes place in. It's a fantastic J-RPG that's well worth everyone's time! Er. so to speak... :D
I think my favourite 3DS game is…actually it’s impossible to pick! I sunk hundreds of hours into every Pokémon game on there, hundreds into Smash, and while not in the hundreds, 80+ hours in Samus Returns (9 total play throughs getting all the endings) The 3DS is probably one of the best consoles ever and I’m glad I have 2! An OG one I got from my cousin and the Link Between worlds one that is my main one and the one I modded so I can have custom themes and do Pokémon Randomizers!
My favorite series is the Dillon’s Rolling Western series. I remember going on the eshop to find The Last Ranger being advertised. However, I wouldn’t get it until I grew up a bit more. Dillon’s character stood out when I am already attracted to stylized games. All three of the games are tower defense where you are trying to clear waves as fast as possible. Currently all of the games are exclusive to the eshop. Unless you live in a PAL region, those games will be lost to time.
i'm genuinely surprised to see that Kid Icarus Uprising and Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology weren't on this list. KIU is really fun and a sakurai masterpiece, and RH:PC is my favorite rpg that I've ever played
My favorite game on 3DS is Etrian Odyssey 4, hands down. I downloaded the Demo off of the e-shop when it was new and was blown away! Absolutely try it while you still have a chance!!!
When I first messed with the EO demos, for whatever reason, 4 just felt weirdly bland to me. BUT- I recently bought a couple and I question why I initially thought that, cause I *love* that game so far. I chose 4 over 5 cause the overworld system looked cool and it distinguishes it from other games in the series and cause I hear its the best for newcomers (Also maybe the better story between the two non-Untold games, probably thanks to that overworld system, tho I know these games don't typically focus on direct storytelling, so it's just a bonus). 5's race system looked cool to me, but I've heard some people say it can kinda bloat the game, and I can see how it would (As much as I like the idea). I specifically bought 4 and 2U (Also Mystery Dungeon). The former for the reasons I already described and the latter due to its more direct storytelling, as well as how it handles it better than U1 (And Mystery Dungeon cause Mystery Dungeon. Lol). Long story short, glad I grabbed EO4 despite my initial impressions from the demo a few years ago (I *really* don't know why I had that impression then).
Radiant historia i wish was on this list because it is super good and has an interesting combat system but sadly it is a remake of a ds game that is super underrated
The 3DS paved way for so many RPGs and as fan of the genre, it is one of my favorites consoles ever. To the point where I ended up buying two, partly because I almost broke the first one playing Smash 😅.
My Top 10: 1. Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns 2. Mario Kart 7 3. Metroid Prime: Federation Force 4. Pokemon Omega Ruby 5. Super Mario 3D Land 6. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between World 7. Final Fantasy Explorers 8. Brain Age: Concentration Training 9. Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight 10. Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido
I still play my purple 3ds (pre-c stick version.) Its held up so well over the years and still in good shape. Dream Team is def a fav! Love the mario and luigi superstar games.
Amazing choices. I’d put Yo-Kai Watch (any of them), Kid Icarus Uprising, and Animal Crossing New Leaf on my list. Also, honorable mention to Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, but there are far better ways to play that game and the rest of the series
The 3DS holds a special place in my heart. I met some great friends in school because of it. My favorite game on the system is Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire because it not only helped me get through some rough times during high school, but it is how I met some people online. Have we moved onto different games since? Sure, but I still owe that one game a lot.
when I heard the sun and moon music I teared up instantly. I remember as a kid spending weeks on that game, just leveling up my litten and overall enjoying the games atmosphere. Its been 7 years since I played this, its crazy how fast time flies!I I remember playing in the car and sneaking it into bed under the blankets lool. I reccomend playing this game 100%. The musics great, the gameplay is great, and the artstyle is SUPERB.
the 3ds had so many amazing games, it's hard to believe that it's truly over edit: please make more mario and luigi content, it's my favorite mario spinoff series
Ultra sun is probably my second favorite gen. Great story. I love how game freak left the gym mentality with island kahunas. The sheer power scaling of the ultra beasts is amazing as well
Honestly preferred how they handled Lillie and Lusamine's stuff in the original Sun & Moon. Wish Ultra Necrozma's stuff would have been moved to being a post-game story instead of replacing the original story.
@@RayOfTruth The original story sucked. Lusamine had little to no reason to be obsessed with ultra beasts. Lillie is also the same character and goes through the same exact motions but we actually get to see more of her development when she becomes an active trainer instead getting that development offscreen in Kanto. People have a hivemind when they talk about USUM's story and they're all wrong about it. I think it's because they all watch videos with the same faulty opinions and not a single person with a brain ever cared to make a video explaining that Sun and Moon's story is shit and USUM's is FAR better. It's far too late now as the game is too old, but people still even actually believe Nihilego possessed lusamine early on in the story when it only got ahold of her at the end in the original.
Same, I love USUM, they are still my favourite pokemon games and I wish people gave them a real shot, the only reason they don't is because pokemon black 2 got fans expectations high for some reason, then they started complaining that they didn't get a true sequel despite the fact that pokemon X and Y literally didn't get anything.
Kirby planet robobot is easily my #1 3DS game and it definitely has lots of competition since I’ve had my 3ds (and 2ds) for a while and 3ds is my favourite Nintendo console/handheld so I’ve played over 100 3ds games
Bravely Default may be one of my all time favorite games. Especially the gorgeous soundtrack. Starting a new file and entering Caldisla feels as nostalgic as Pokémon Red way back in the day.
I'm planning to get a 3DS to mod it since the eshop is going down and I missed on the entire system, this video came at the perfect time. Got a nice selection for the first few games I'll be buying.
One 3DS game I discovered and enjoyed quite a bit thanks to Nyarly was Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology. The artstyle is neat, the story and the multiple endings are fun to discover and the characters and VAs who bring them to life (Xander Mobus for Stocke, Erica Mendez as Eruca, etc.) are interesting too. Plus the time travel aspect feels like a natural progression of the story rather than just shoehorned in and the combat is clever and unique. Definitely a game worth checking out.
@@paulgilbert5278 I wouldn't say second best, it's better then Partners In Time and Paper Jam. And it's leagues better then the remakes of Superstar Saga and Bowser's Inside Story
My first 3DS game was Super Mario 3D Land. I used to have a blast playing that game not only for it's level design and platforming. It was the only 3DS game that actually used the 3D to its advantage to create some cool tricks, like hiding a coin behind a block that's only visible if you turn the 3D slider up.
This list for sure is so subjective but I still have to mention my favorit on the 3DS: Picross 3D. There're a lot of great puzzle games but the combination of great visuals and the small animations after you sucessfully dig a stature out of a square is so unforgetable.
3ds has a great library. Including ports/remasters/remakes, some of my favorites on it are Dragon quest 7 and 8 Dragon quest slime morimori 3 Dragon quest monsters 1 remake (still need to play 2) Shin Megami Tensei 4 and soul hackers Radiant historia perfect chronology Kid Icarus uprising Samus returns Xenoblade 3D (though I don’t see myself returning to this version) Zelda OOT and MM 3D Link between worlds Animal crossing new leaf Fire emblem echoes Theatrhythm final fantasy and dragon quest And more! And more to play soon! Replaying smt4 as we speak and I plan to play games like smt4A, bravely default, and hopefully the 3ds version of dragon quest 11 when it gets translated
Too many people have slept on the Mario & Luigi and Mario vs. Donkey Kong franchises for too long. So many great games that deserve way more attention. Luigi’s Mansion 1 & 2 also deserve shoutouts
3DS for me is that Nostalgia I relived in my 20s working away from home. I found myself IN LOVE with this library! Link to the past sequel is what got me to by the system and every game I owned was amazing. I only owned a SNES, N64 , 3DS, and now Switch. It brought me back to Nintendo for life. 3ds was truly a special time for quality Nintendo games
Been so excited for this video ever since I saw your GBA version. Also this is great for helping me find good games before the eshop closes. Much love Jirard
My favourite game was Devil survivor 2. I loved everything: from the old story to the new one, the charachters, the battle system, the difficulty, everything
Great list. I would like to add a few more wonderful games: pokemon ORAS, fire emblem awakening and fantasy life. still my favorite handheld to this day!
By far my favorite 3ds game has to be a link between worlds, and coincidentally it was the first 3ds game I bought. The classic Zelda dungeons and puzzles with an interesting story and set of characters, all on that tiny screen for me to play in anywhere at any time. Truly a magical experience it was.
So many other great games in addition to these. How many SMT games? Like 6? And like 5 Etrian Odyssey games? And how many Fire Emblem? Prof. Layton, Rune Factory and Story of Seasons.. the list goes on and on. The 3DS is one of the greatest systems, handheld or console, ever made.
One of my favourites has to be kid icarus uprising, the sense of humour and story were really enjoyable. Was the battle system a little one sided so much so that they sold a stand for the 3ds with the original release? Yes but the difference between ground and sky battles was refreshing.
Recently got that one (Also U2 and MD), and I really like it so far. Weirdly enough, my first impressions with the demo a few years ago were just "Meh" but I really question why. :P Good game.
Man I loved the 3DS. It's pretty much everything I could ask for in a portable console, emphasis on portable, since I feel my Switch is too big to really just take with me on a whim. The only issue I had at all with the 3DS series was the screen's abysmal pixel count. I remember squinting at bugs on flowers in Animal Crossing: New Leaf and trying to figure out what in the heck those three or four pixels (max) might be.
@@paulgilbert5278 Mine is the Vita, I think, but it had such big issues, like the rear touchscreen always registering unintended touches, the really clunky playstation store it had, the overpriced memory cards, and one or two things beyond. Still, if the owner could get past all that the Vita was pretty ahead of its time.
Samus Returns is by far my favourite 3DS game, and if you crank the 3D feature up to the max, the game looks gorgeous and it creates a great atmosphere.

That's awesome.

What kind of job do you have to be able to play videogames, get caught by your boss and not get fired/write up??? Sounds like the job I need
I dug it. Shoot, I could play Super Metroid on the go on a New 3DS. Really good presh mems playing Monster Hunter back in the day.
KI not being on this list is a tragedy.
@@StriderZessei killer instinct?

You should try the If fan translation if you haven't already - the Japanese version of Fates.
Agreed
I second that
Nice
Smash on 3DS was a marvel in it's own right. The fact the 3DS could handle it AND at 60FPS on the OG 3DS was absolutely mind blowing to me for the time
Too bad it’s also the reason the Ice Climbers were cut from it and Wii U.
I know right? It still blows my mind that a game like that was possible on the platform.

I was surprised Kid Icarus: Uprising isn't on here. I think it's the best 3DS game. It's a true masterpiece. Yet again, Sakurai developed this game too, and a lot of his games are gold. He's a very hard worker and has high expectations for his games.
Yoooo, I totally agree, It was such a good game with a great story and great characters. It was my favorite 3ds game

Yo-Kai watch was so much fun. Defined up there in my personal list
So… I’m one of the few left with an english physical copy of YKW 3….
@@packers12to80 Yes! Another big YKW fan!
Not mentioned on this list but I'd like to give a shout out to Shin Megami Tensei 4 for being the greatest handheld RPG of all time that game is a masterpiece and it's a shame not more people played it
I mean is it the greatest handheld rpg since p5R is on switch now?
P4G exists
@@Northern_Nobody forgot about p4 lol
Shin megami tensei IV is such a good game. Probably the best combat and soundtrack I’ve seen in an rpg
Shit ill have to check this out it sounds AMAZING
@@Samacalia Radiant Historia was a game in which I only heard of the name and how interesting it was, nothing else about it. While at a convention some years back I came across a stall selling both the DS and 3DS versions of the game and I asked what the difference was. When the seller said the 3DS version had better art and extra content, it was kind of a no-brainer. It turned out to be the only Atlus-made game I can say I actually enjoy.
I'm still mad that they decided to release it on the 3DS and not on the Switch. 😅
Such a great game! It reminds me of the golden age of JRPGs on the SNES.
It's my favorite game of all time too!!
I hope one day jirard will play it for the show!
Uprising is such an incredible game. Top 10 games ever 🔥
the first 3ds game i got was Pokemon X. and my first 3ds was a gift from one of my best friends. we met through our love of pokemon and i mentioned how i was trying to save up for one to play the next pokemon gen, and she then sent me her spare one as a gift. she had recently gotten a 3dsxl and didn't need 2. thanks to her, i got to experience so many great games and i cannot be more grateful for her kindness.
Nice
I know why New Leaf isn’t on the list, but still makes me super sad that it isn’t included alongside the other 3DS classics. It’s one of my favorite 3DS games and favorite video games in general.
Monster Hunter and Kingdom Hearts 3D are 2 of my personal faves. Also the Pokemon Ruby remake was really good
I was undecided on KH3D for a while, but I’ve loved it more and more each time I play it.

3. Super Mario 3D World
2. Metroid: Seamus Returns

I've fallen hard for Persona Q and now I'll have e to get a new SD card to hold some of the Etrian Odyssey games.
Ah Yo Kai
Monster Hunter Generations, I kid you not. This was my introduction to the Monster Hunter franchise and while I was entirely clueless the entire time, it was a huge blast, and it left such a big mark on me that I don’t hesitate to buy whatever next game in the franchise is!
It's a big old beast of a game
This list gets a standing ovation from me personally JUST for giving Mario & Luigi: Dream Team some love. Probably my favorite 3DS game. 😊
that whole series was amazing, although the creators went bankrupt :(
Hell, yea, dream team freaking rocks
Love dream team such a unique take on the mario and luigi games. I really liked the sticker star one too where they added paper mario too. Managing 3 guys at once was a doozy but so fun

Dream Team and Paper Jam were awesome
Instant like for mentioning Theatrhythm! No music has ever been more epic, and a game to showcase it all is awesome, and the game plays great!
It's my second favorite too!
I liked paper jam. It was a nice bump up of a challenge managing 3 guys at once.
Paper Jam was great. The battle combat was really fun

I know it wasn't everyone's favourite but i really loved Metroid Samus Returns a lot (even with its one major flaw, having to counter kill every enemy) i still like AM2R better because of that but a solid remake for 3DS to be sure :)

At first I thought 'Hey it got a Demo Version. Woudn't hurt to try it.'
I fell in love with the story, the characters and the music.
Also it rewards you with playing it more than once with New Game+, a new (the real) ending and different character endings.
Yeah I beat it a few months ago. And I get the urge to replay it. I just wanted to get through some other games first.
Played the demo back in winter 2015 and it got me to buy the special edition since it was the only way to buy the physical game.
Love your list! I loved the jrpg market on the 3ds
I recommend

Ocarina of Time 3D was my first on the system and was a blessing for someone like me that didn't get to play it growing up, but CONSTANTLY heard how it is one of the greatest games of all time.
yes. it is ;)
One of my favorite games for the 3DS is "Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology".
I sunk hundreds of hours into every Pokémon game on there, hundreds into Smash, and while not in the hundreds, 80+ hours in Samus Returns (9 total play throughs getting all the endings)
The 3DS is probably one of the best consoles ever and I’m glad I have 2!
Japan got a physical release of Dead Heat Breakers, too, IIRC.
i'm genuinely surprised to see that Kid Icarus Uprising and Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology weren't on this list. KIU is really fun and a sakurai masterpiece, and RH:PC is my favorite rpg that I've ever played

FE AWAKENIG IS A MASTERPIECE AND MY FAVE 3DS GAME ♡

Also, honorable mention to Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, but there are far better ways to play that game and the rest of the series
All the Mario & Luigi games for 3DS are an absolute must. Specially Dream Team, amazing game
Keep up the great work! 3ds is a fantastic system with great under rated games!

Link between worlds is one Zelda game I thoroughly enjoy going back to. Not too long and perfect pacing and exploration. Perfection.
Kirby planet robobot is easily my #1 3DS game and it definitely has lots of competition since I’ve had my 3ds (and 2ds) for a while and 3ds is my favourite Nintendo console/handheld so I’ve played over 100 3ds games
By the way, I have every Kirby game ever (Including Japan exclusives and other more rare ones) and planet robobot is my second favourite of them all
Bravely Default may be one of my all time favorite games.
Thank you for putting Dream Team on the list, I honestly think people hate on this game to much and deserves more love
Fr
Darn right. It’s easily the 2nd best
@@paulgilbert5278 I wouldn't say second best, it's better then Partners In Time and Paper Jam. And it's leagues better then the remakes of Superstar Saga and Bowser's Inside Story
@@charmaster2458 imo the superstar saga remake was pretty good. The BIS remake kinda sucked tho.
Some of my favorite 3DS games are Mario Kart 7, Link Between Worlds, Mario 3D Land, Miitopia, and all of the Pokemon games.
This list for sure is so subjective but I still have to mention my favorit on the 3DS: Picross 3D. There're a lot of great puzzle games but the combination of great visuals and the small animations after you sucessfully dig a stature out of a square is so unforgetable.
Sorry but you lost me when you put a final fantasy rhythm at number 10…
Wow I remember when that Link Between Worlds video was new. Congrats Jirard on all you accomplished since.
3ds has a great library. Including ports/remasters/remakes, some of my favorites on it are
Dragon quest 7 and 8
Dragon quest slime morimori 3
Dragon quest monsters 1 remake (still need to play 2)
Shin Megami Tensei 4 and soul hackers
Radiant historia perfect chronology
Kid Icarus uprising
Samus returns
Xenoblade 3D (though I don’t see myself returning to this version)
Zelda OOT and MM 3D
Link between worlds
Animal crossing new leaf
Fire emblem echoes
Theatrhythm final fantasy and dragon quest
And more!
Wow, Im quite surprised that dark Moon was nowhere on this list.
Me too. Awesome game
The indieland intro hit me like a truck 💀
Really sad to see none of the Professor Layton games made the list.
I love the Pokémon games on the 3DS, I liked what they did with the story in Sun and Moon.
Same. It's underrated
Same.
@@theirishpotato6588 I like Lillie’s story and the mother’s obsession with the ultra beasts.
So nice to see Sun and Moon getting some credit after being unfairly hated by the community just for being new. They're AMAZING entries to the series!
To this day i will defend Codename S.T.E.A.M as one of my top 5 trpg! I literally bought a 3DS just for that game. Can I PLEASE get a Switch port?!
I’m a huge fan of the mario & luigi rpgs. I’d love to see some videos on the series
Fire emblem had some really good games on the 3DS that introduced me to that series
One of my favourites has to be kid icarus uprising, the sense of humour and story were really enjoyable. Was the battle system a little one sided so much so that they sold a stand for the 3ds with the original release? Yes but the difference between ground and sky battles was refreshing.
How did the stand help? Wondering if i should buy one when i get my own copy of the game
The 3DS is basically my dedicated JRPG machine. So many great Atlus titles on it too, Etrian Odyssey IV being my favourite.
Recently got that one (Also U2 and MD), and I really like it so far.
Weirdly enough, my first impressions with the demo a few years ago were just "Meh" but I really question why. :P
Good game.
@@Cuprite1024 Glad you like it! I haven't played MD yet, but U2 is great, probably my second favourite.
Yeah 3DS is my favorite console to be honest
@@paulgilbert5278 Mine is the Vita, I think, but it had such big issues, like the rear touchscreen always registering unintended touches, the really clunky playstation store it had, the overpriced memory cards, and one or two things beyond. Still, if the owner could get past all that the Vita was pretty ahead of its time.
Samus Returns is by far my favourite 3DS game, and if you crank the 3D feature up to the max, the game looks gorgeous and it creates a great atmosphere.
this is a really good list, I'd maybe swap out a couple entries for Ever Oasis, New Leaf, and FE Awakening but I agree with the majority of it!
