Uncompromising and homogeneous precision of choir in dynamics (Angst und Not, Angst und Not), text work, listening and ornamentation (not only, but prominently Soprano). Miraculously subtle and blossoming crescendi and resolving decrescendi and transfer from one voice to the next ( in what I’m tempted to call Crucifixus). Great soloist work of all three of them (the mild, floating blend of trumpet and tenor). And then the string section is just a dream , such transparency and such a groove (bass aria), and again a stunning listening capacity. This performance is all about breathing music arising from perfect mastery of all aspects, carefully elaborated and performed with max attention. And not to forget: the visual recording is perfectly directed, the camera perspectives revealing how much the musicians in the orchestra but also in choir look at each other as well as to the conductor who in reverse sculptures the performance most subtly. Lutz keeps upping the the ante. Bravi, bravi!
This must be the best version of this cantata available to listen to! Choir, soloists, musicians and director Lutz; all are at top notch here. Thanks to God!
@@leonardoiglesias2394 Thanks to Suzuki - I can listen to all of them. But the echo I like less. Suzuki makes it emotional. But Lutz too. Different but sometimes personally I prefer one above the other. (And I sang in a choir like this - so it reminds me of my young days...)
Hartelijk dank !!!!!

One of the best performances of the serie. My new favorite for this particular Cantata. The aria Kreuze und Krone sind verbunden gains a new dimension.
Lovely performance throughout. Kudos to the oboist in the sinfonia, the trumpeter in the tenor aria, and to the soloists. This rendering captured the grace, the sorrow, and the hope of the text magnificently. Wonderful job by all. Thank you.

Dear Mr. Legato: No wonder, Mr. Legato. The Crucifixus is an arrangement of this same choir. By the way, many movements of the Mass are arrangements, in which Bach always changes some things, always for the better. As to Mr Parker, I don't know about his inimitable tears; what I know is that he doesn't know the mass as well as you, Mr. Legato. Congratulations.

Beautiful performance!!! However, there's one thing I don't understand. The cantata is performed a whole tone too high. The opening 2 movements are in F minor, but this recording played it in G minor. I wonder why this change / difference? Thanks for your explanation!

I disagree about the "homogeneous precision of choir in dynamics ". The men were great but the women's pp was in fact mp and presented a flat dynamic range compared to the men. This is some of Bach's greatest Michelangelo music. This is the music you play when you are showing images of the Sistine Chapel Ceiling. I am sure JS never heard it performed as well as this, but this would sound utterly different under Stokowski. In the 1 Symphonia lack of cohesion in the violins also prevented us from realizing the true awesomeness of this movement. Rudi and the Foundation have committed 25 years of their lives to this project. 15 years into it we can say this is the best there is. But we also come to realize that there is a whole new level at which this music can be performed that will make this look stilted and jaded. Is Rudi going to reach for that prize ?
