Choir, dear Lord how great they are. would be worn out if I conducted as this genius. His directing is what it needs to be to tell each Player, each Singer what to do. How thoroughly enjoyable.
Yes, that was shocking - baroque violin had a hard limit of D above the staff, or so I thought. Perhaps the E strings were gut as were the others? Is that as Bach wrote it? This is Bach’s 3rd reworking of this material, apparently; could it have come down to us incompletely, and this is a result of how a modern arranger solved a problem? How would Bach even notate this? With four ledger lines? I don’t remember seeing that, or 8va abbreviations in Bach. It’s such a thin sound, was it definitely violins? What else could it be? An isolated 2” stop? On a positif?? I’ll have to listen with headphones. Let me know your thoughts. EDIT: I went to the site IMSLP, and there it is in Bach’s handwriting- 32nd note run up to high A, four ledger lines, colliding with the bottom of the 2nd oboe staff!
1:26 does anyone else hear the top of the string figure rise higher than anything that would ever happen in a Bach orchestra? What could that be? A 1 foot or 2 foot pipe on an organ doubling the string line? I am mystified.

After doing some research, I've found that Bach wrote this cantata for Easter Monday which is a holiday in Germany and some other countries.
