We have a scrap yard where I live. Anything that comes in pre 1980 goes to another lot. Parts are sold on the internet and to special customers. We've had people buy entire roofs and quarter panels. Those old cars can bring you 5 times more money then just scrap metal if you save them.

Exactly. But if someone is on TH-cam, it doesn't mean they are good in all aspects of their business. Crushing the Olds will finally make him lose money compared to proper handling this car. The Olds dash board instrument is possibly worth more than a complete car from the 1990's...

I would be No good at a scrapyard, i would try to save too many, the old tractor i would save, there are a lot of people who do them up, the Oldsmobile somebody probably will want to do up, and the 50,s Chevy it,s condition did not look too bad, and i think they are still fairly popular and have been for a long time!!

That Olds is definitely worth saving. Sadly only for parts. The engine alone is worth a couple of hundred bucks. Guys building period street rods would love to have a Rocket 88 under the hood. Bumpers look good, hood , dash even some of the Chrome trim. Hope it gets a stay of execution so it can be stripped..

My dad has always talked about finding another 50 Olds like he used to have when he was younger. Those cars are hard to find. Don't know if he scrapped it but looked like a ton of good parts left on it. I would've loved to have the front end on that and made it into some cool wall art. That stuck engine can be unstuck...

Love your honest, straight up talk regarding crushing cars. For years, I’ve collected and restored cars. And during that time, I’ve had some many “Experts” tell me what I should have done, why I shouldn’t do this or that... and probably the most grating, is when I posted photos of cars that were abandoned and rotting, the hate that some would level at me and the owners of said cars, always surprised me. “They should sell them to be restored”....yet none would ever front up with the cash and time to do so.

Just came across your you tube channel! I can watch these all day long!! Me being in a junk yard is like a kid in a candy store!!! I am a former old school auto mechanic! Don't know if you read your comments, but I have a 63 impala s/s conv. with the 409 set up. I am trying to find an old 409 or 348 block so i can put my car back together. Even a old 409 truck motor would be great. I am retired and don't have much money but am still hoping to find something that I can rebuild. There are plenty of small blocks available but I wanted to put back what was original! I used to race it back in the late 70's but motors used to blow up! I have plenty of parts but no block!

Of all the engines I have rebuilt over the years, I think that was the easiest to work on. Yes and no. It has too many doors. You can buy an older restoration for 1/2 of what it would cost you to restore it. Not many people out there itching to own an early 50s Olds sedan. Oldsmobile restoration parts are also more expensive than Ford or Chev, which makes the restoration uneconomical.
I terms of the 303 Olds engine, no one wants them. Again, you can buy a running one that needs a rebuild cheap because buys are pulling them, running a 350 Chev. with aftermarket Olds rocket valve covers. Cheap, reliable and easy to find parts for versus finding parts for a 70 year old engine. Take that Hydromatic transmission to a reputable shop and ask for a quote on a rebuild.
I own a full kustom 1949 Ford coupe with a Buick nailhead engine. I built the car for me and love it, but very few guys under 50 are getting into the hobby.

Yes, I love old cars. I would save them all if I could, but at the same time, even one in good complete condition will cost more to restore then it will be valued at. And that is even if you do the work yourself. Some cars will never be anything if not picked up by a street rodder. Kind of the same thing there too, but dune right it is like art. It is worth what someone is willing to pay. As far as scrappers go, it is a way to make money, and this is still America and you are free to do it and I can not fault anyone for that. My grandfather had the fastest car in the entire southeast, and it looked just like this. It was a 50 Olds Rocket 88 notchback that was green. Only difference was it was a 2 door. It was so fast that he'd slow down when police were chasing him, let them get right on him, then floor it and be gone. He actually hit #1 on his county's most wanted list in the early 50s. Car ended up getting sideswiped by a transfer truck which destroyed it, he then became a drill sergeant.

Let the negative comments roll off your back. Everyone has an opinion especially when they don't know what they are talking about. How many crushed cars do you send out at a time?

0:38 Its funny I did the exact same thing to a Ford van exactly like that when he backed out behind me as I was backing into a loading dock with my 53-foot semi truck. I completely caved in the whole driver's side and the guy who was unhurt was still on the phone and he said he never saw me...WTF?

Don't crush the Olds! It should sell for a parts vehicle to a collector. Same for the M/M tractor, IMHO.

Like ya said " your running outta room", I hear ya. Here's another story to add to the other million below., I just scraped a 57 chevy hardtop because the body was total rot. BUT, I kept the chassis, the 283, 3 on the tree,, everything but the body. 1957, first year for the 283.....I imagine if you posted your name and number you would be on the phone all day...Wrecking yards were my playground when I was a kid... p.s. it was a 4 door hardtop...

I live up north and older vehicles are few and far between. An older vehicle around here in good shape is from somewhere else. You can get big money for older vehicles up here even if they don't run.

Save it, save it for a collector who might be able to restore it. Why not?? I seen or heard, about a vehicle, back in the late 1980' , a truck, found in a dried up river bed, this vehicle was in bad shape, a lost cause,. It needed everything,. Or what you saw. I seen the , after, and it was finished and featured in Rodder magazine ,. It looked like a million bucks when it was finished. , So , this Delta 88 , is in better shape than the pick-up, so, this could be saved 👍👍

Dang look at all them good parts that could be sold. I’ve worked in salvage yards in the past. We only crush what was left afterwards. But you run things your way

The body was very clean on that Ford van it had plenty of good parts that could have been sold for a good profit. In NY they don't stay that way very long they get beat up or rust out or both.

@@1575murray I saw a lot of rust spit out that rocker panel. You should see what we crush in CA - It breaks my heart, but there just aren't that many hot rodders anymore - all the kids went into computers instead of auto shop...

Wow, seeing some 99s and up Toyota Camry’s there… Shame, these would go another 20 years easily. Most reliable and so easy, cheap to maintain, operate vintage of all the Camry.
