Patanjali Yoga Sutras Part3 by Swami Mukundananda, what is the difference between Mind, Intellect & Ego?
Buy the complete DVD-set of Patanjali Yoga Sutras here: www.jkyog.org/...
The purpose of yoga meditation is to illumine the soul with divine consciousness. Swamiji elaborates on the purpose of dos and don’ts in the scriptures.
The aim of yog is to align our mind body and spirit in the divine and bathe our mind with sublime thoughts. All the sadhana that we undertake is to illumine the individual consciousness with divine consciousness. The goal of yog is to purify the mind by enhancing spiritual thoughts. When you absorb your mind in the divine Lord your mind transcends the three modes of maya and becomes situated on the divine transcendental platform. We are not the mind we are not the body we are the soul, the tiny fragments of God.
Maharshi Patanjali, one of the six sages who wrote Shad Darshan (the six-philosophical theses,) is a highly regarded Sanskrit scholar with multifaceted dimensions. His Yog Sutras(also known as Yog Darshan) that primarily deals with sadhana or spiritual practices is in the form of sutras. These sutras are “simple yet effective aphorisms that have strung the philosophy,” says Swami Mukundananda ji. The Yog Sutras are not only ancient but also very practical. Modern Psychologists too are discovering its utility in guarding or in regaining mental health.
In this preamble to Patanjali Yog Sutras, Swamiji introduces us to one of the primary requisites for spiritual progress, while answering these questions in a lucid manner - Who is Patanjali? What was the purpose of his birth? How did Yog Sutras come about? What are the elements of Yog Sutras?.
    About Swami Mukundananda:

Swamiji makes a very important distinction in this lecture that many people are confused about. I am very grateful for his explanation, it cleared my doubts too. We must not and cannot stop desires arising in our mind. We simply have to dovetail desires towards or for God. Shun material or worldly desires, but increase spiritual desires.

Our Ego has forced us, Divine Souls, to identify ourselves with the material body. Hence we think we are the body, not the Souls. Forgetting our true identities has brought us immense misery and pain. It is about time to start using the discriminating power of intellect and realize that we are the Eternal Souls!!!

It 's Wonerful n encouraging Swamiji. 1-always remember God. 2-Never forget God. Nirodh means to stop material desiers but not to stop spiritual desiers. The goal of Yog is not to kill the mind but to purify the mind. Please watch......

To purify the mind engage the mind in God. Our mind likes and dislikes, intellect decides, ego accepts. Soul yses mind as an instrument. Thanks Swamiji

Often times the idea of practicing Spirituality is misunderstood as the process of killing desires and thoughts. Swamiji dismisses such prejudices and clarifies the purpose of Spiritual practices. The true purpose is to purify our minds by attaching our mind to the Divine. Swamiji nicely explains the different states of our mind-Mind Intellect and Ego. A proper understanding of the functioning of our mind is very important to practice spirituality and elevate us. Thank you ,Swamiji for enlightening us through this wonderful lecture.

Swamiji so beautifully explains how others often misinterpret what “nirodh or kill the mind” really means. If we control desire, how will we ever increase the desire for spiritual elevation? So what we need to do is to control the desire for material things by purifying the mind. Swamiji further explains that the mind has three functional states: mind (mun), intelligence (buddhi) and ego (ahankar) and it can be purified by surrendering all three states to God.

Purity of mind illuminates our life with light .When our heart wants to live in purity & do the right thing, automatically it attracts towards God and his qualities and when our intellect decide to surrender to God in any situation, then our mind searches for purity and keeps us from falling into sin.

Very nicely explained by Swamiji that to purify mind one should not desire material things but that doesn't mean one should stop desiring. It means one should only desire spiritual things. The meaning of Yoga is not stop desiring. Yoga means to have spiritual desire
The lecture so beautifully explains how Ego stops us to surrender to God. Ego forces us to think we are the body. When one surrenders his intellect and mind to God, the goal is achieved.
    Thank you Swamiji.

The soul's point of contact with the material realm is ego. Because of ego the soul thinks I am body, i am mind, this is mine. Without ego, soul would not have contact. Saints remind us to try to understand who you are, or who am i , but not the mind.

The soul is the seer. The Mind is an instrument that the soul utilizes. The Mind desires, the Intellect makes decisions, and the Ego accepts the knowledge from the past experiences, and identifies it with itself. Without ego, the soul would have no contact with the material world. Once we understand, who we are (we are the soul, not the body, or mind), then we will not associate with the mind, and will establish in the divine nature of the self.

Goal of Yog is to put stop to Material Desires and bathe our mind with noble thoughts to purify the mind. Your mind is material ...God is Divine. When we attach our mind to God our mind transcend the three modes of Maya. To purify the mind engage it in God.

    Aim of Yoga
To bathe our mind with sublime thoughts.
Put a stop to material desires.
The goal of yoga is to stop material thinking and enhance spritual thinking.
The Goal is not to kill the mind but to
    Purify the mind.
And How will we purify the mind ?
    Krishna to Arjunji
Your mind is material, the objects of the world are material, God is divine, when you absorb the mind in the Divine God, your mind will transcend the 3 modes of material nature (maya) and will be situated on the spiritual platform.
Remember the names, forms, qualities, pastimes, virtues, divine abode of the God.

If an average human body be compared to a computer -
    • Nature (user)
    • Conscience (control unit)
    • Mind (bus)
    • Ego (memory unit), Intellect (logic unit)
    • Eyes, ears, nose, tongue, skin (input devices)
    • Limbs, vocal chord, jaws, etc. (output devices)
When the *Conscience* of a person, becomes so good that *Nature* can not influence it any more via, the input devices; then we say, that person has attained Moksha, from the Natural Maya ( simulation ).
