    Re-uploading because I made ANOTHER mistake. It's becoming clear that I'm working too hard. Schedule changes coming soon.
    I talk a lot about winning battles as an attacker, but today's episode is all about defending gyms so you can maximize your daily defender bonus.

    The high turn over rate is by design. Niantic doesn't want people to hold gyms for long periods of time because you gain gold which equals $$$.

      it's also good for lower level trainers who wants to play, but isn't quite good enough to compete with the big dogs if it was too hard. also the money thing, but I was happy this was the case when I was at level 7 and every gym in my area was taken by CP1000+ Snorlaxes.

    • @bennybenny55
      @bennybenny55 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      really this doesn't make sense , either way the coins are available no matter who holds it and for how long. If anything the turnover gyms is worse for Niantic. If a gym changes 10 times a day that 100 coins to 10 different people whereas if its just 1 per day its 10 coins making the other frustrated and wanting to buy coins.

    • @WhyAreYouGhe
      @WhyAreYouGhe 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Or they don't want hackers/no-lifers/bug-abusers with 3000 cp pokemon holding gyms indefinitely, which happens in most games that have this kind of competitive element...so they did alright.

    • @handicapitation3250
      @handicapitation3250 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      bennybenny55 I disagree. With high turnover you can only collect 2-4 gyms worth of coins before they start getting taken over. If they were harder to take down, people would be collecting closer to 10 gyms worth of coins.

    We've managed to hold 10 Gyms 3 times in the last 3 weeks. We work nights, so coming home at 4:00am in the morning allows us (2 Team Instinct members) to take over gyms on our way home from work. It adds an hour to to the trip, but it's worth it. As you pointed out, its easier to take over gyms, then it is to increase prestige, so being in Team Instinct means getting our Pokemon into gyms is just much quicker, and easier. Really enjoy the vids!

    I have been able to collected on 10 gyms per day for the last week and have only had to recapture three to five each day. I attribute this to the majority of players in my area being on team mystic and the large number of gyms around. It was back and forth for a long time, but after one of the recent updates its been all blue.

    I've refined my strategy for collecting gym bonus and it really depends on timing. I leave for work about an hour early everyday and there are about 8 gyms on my way in. I hit them all within a 1-1.5 hour time frame, depending on what I find there, and can usually control at least half, or the majority by the time I get to work. This morning for instance I was able to get 7, and then immediately claim my gym bonus. I find that doing this first thing in the morning, as a solo player, affords me the best chance of retaining gyms long enough to collect a significant bonus....nobody else is really out at 7:00AM battling gyms. Gotta claim fast though...I checked my phone only an hour after being at work, and only 2 gyms remained form this morning's conquest...

    My strategy is, because i live in a rural area i usually go around 10 pm when mostly everyone is asleep lol. This gives me enough time to take as many gyms as i can. It usually takes 2-3 hours depending on how strong the gyms are, and i usually atleast take over 5-6 gyms getting 60 coins per day. I wish i had friends to take over gyms with but they are not in team instinct. Rip me

  • @difbufs
    @difbufs 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the favouring the attacker is a good design.
    1) It makes it possible for lower level players to participate in gym battling, since the "favour the attacker"-mechanism makes it possible for them to beat higher level defenders.
    2) It promotes more active play style. Holding a gym for three hours is enough time to be able to capture some other gyms and claim your bonus, and then you can do it the next day. If some high level players could train up unbeatable gyms and hold them unchallenged for weeks, that is not very fun and interactive.
    3) Even as it is now, it is still possible to hold gyms for some time. You just need to find a bit more remote gyms. I held a gym for 7 days. You should look for a gym which is like an hour walk away from the city, and which you need to travel small forest paths to get to. Many players are super lazy and will not go to gyms to which it is impossible to drive with car. So impossible to get close with a car is the most important attribute of a defendable gym.

  • @amarit2519

    I have three gyms around where I live in an area with fairly low foot traffic. These three gyms change hand all the time. I've seen one of them being raised to level 9 a few times and even that didn't last long. I myself tried to take hold of all three at the same time long enough to collect my rewards. By the time I got to no.3, no.1&2 was gone. So yep. No point. Nowadays I just attack the one closest to my house and collect my 10 coins. It sucks but at least it's something. Hopefully we can see some positive changes soon.
    Btw, love your channel, Nick. You are the only Pokemon Go channel I subscribe to. Content-wise, I think you are miles ahead of anybody I've seen, and I am amazed that you can churn out a video of this caliber every single day. Keep up the awesome stuff. Cheers!

    We were talking about gyms at work and an excellent idea came up. I think the attacker(s) should gain more rewards per gym level. For example, if an attacker takes down a level 2 gym they get 10 coins 1500 dust. On the other hand, if an attacker takes out a lvl 10 gym they would get 15k dust and 100 coins.
    With that said, if a group of (lets say 10 for easy math lol) 10 people take down a level 10 gym together they would split the winnings equally 10 ways. With my previous example they would each get 1500 dust and 10 coins, plus they would be able to put 1 pokemon each to defend.
    I recently ran into a lvl 10 gym in my area and it deters me from even trying to take down the gym alone.

    Hi Trainer Tips! I am from Edmonton , Alberta. I just want to comment that I have collected 10 Gym defender bonus , more than once. Our population is not near what Los Angeles has but its still very competitive out here. I go out with a few Team Instinct at night when less people are playing and do gym sweeps. The tactic that we use is that we go out in groups Minimum of three people, later in the night when less people are playing. We look for gyms that a close together so that is quick and easy to get too. The closer the gyms are , the more time you have to hold on those to gyms. We have one area in our city, there is NINE gyms so close together that is easy to do gym sweeps. We put down High Cp Pokemon with strong defence stats and move on.We strategically put down Pokemon with different types as well because having a variety makes it harder for the attacker to choose what 6 Pokemon to actually use.If you have a gym with all Pokemon with the same type, attackers can easily come in and use those type of Pokemon weakness and take it out quickly. Where we are from , we call it Gym Sweeps. Its when you go out with a few same Team members and take out gym together all in a row and try to hold them as long as possible. I have held gyms more than 1 day. Trainer Tips, you have to understand that yeah you can get 100 Coins from a defender bonus. But the REAL PRIZE is when you get 5000K STARDUST. 5000 Stardust a day which would be 5000 x 7.... Thats 35000 stardust a week! Stardust is such resourceful resource that many people do not really understand. As you lvl up your Pokemon it becomes a grind to get it. And if you can collect and hold those gyms, thats where your really winning. The fact your Team Instinct, it makes it even better. We do not have the numbers to hold gyms but really we can attack any gym. Red or blue. Its easier for us to actually get 10 gyms suppose to Red or blue driving around trying to look for a red or blue gym to take over. I have had Valor coming up to me wish that they chose Team Instinct just the fact its easier for us to take gyms. We can really just choose any lol.

  • @TimG57867
    @TimG57867 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    The attack advantage is why I feel it's worth making a slot for yourself in a lvl 7, 8, or 9 gym. The Prestige grief goes both ways. While you'll have to fight more to get the gym level to go higher, attackers will also have to fight more to reduce the number of Pokemon in a gym. Remember, if an attacker actually defeats the *whole* gym, they get a whopping 1500 bonus prestige knocked off. While this isn't a big issue if you're dealing with those gym levels that only have a couple thousand prestige to them, it becomes a much bigger pain when you start trying to take down those level 8, 9, and 10 gyms because the prestige gap between those levels is *10000*. Knocking a gym from level 5 to 4 could take less than 2 battles if you do it right. Knocking one from 9 to 8 can take more than 5 if you're alone and don't have a lot of strong pokes.
    What I do is if I find strong 7, 8, or 9 gyms, I grind their level up, and then put a super high CP Poke in. That way, I have weaker Pokemon allies to shield me and more prestige to use as a barrier. And if you have friends or know that your team is in good presence in the area, always periodically train your gym. If you can maintain it in the 8 to 10 level range it'll last you much longer. I put a Pokemon in a gym near my home town before going back to college and my Poekmon is still going strong after a week and a half because I snuck it into a gym with a level higher that a bunch of Mystic players were concurrently grinding up. The fact that my Pokemon hasn't been whooped yet means that's probably in 8 to 10 range and constantly being maintained by defenders. Trust me, if you have the time and skills, get your strongest Poke possible into an 8 to 10 gym. It'll be worth it if the air doesn't have people literally every second of the day.

    I would be curious to see a video on the psychology of team color choice. Red is the color of passion and anger, which would explain why Valor gets a bad rep for being assholes. I chose Instinct to stand out. I figured everyone would either pick red or blue because of the original pokemon games. Also i will always have gyms to fight. I feel like Instinct has the strongest players.

      You should pick based on the dominant color in you region. For example, if you see a lot of Mystic gyms, then you should pick Mystic. It gives you no benefit to pick a minority team, because your gyms will get destroyed.

    Keeping gyms for extended periods of time is definitely possible. I've held at least 2 gyms almost every day for several weeks now. Right now I'm at 3 gyms that I've held for a week. At first I was having the same issue mentioned in the video. I'd only keep a gym for at most a few hours if I was lucky. But there is a way to keep gyms longer, but it takes time and dedication.
    The key is to find gyms controlled by your team that are not easily accessible and/or don't have a lot of daily traffic near them. One example I found was a level 9 gym in a neighborhood (at a fountain). I spent a while training it up to level 10 and left my pokemon there. I held that gym for about 2 weeks because it's kind of off the beaten path.
    Since then, I've searched for other gyms that are controlled by my team (go Mystic!) with several defending pokemon and are in places not too easily accessible. One example is a gym at a church on a one-lane road where traffic flies by at 45-50mph. For most people it's not feasible to stop and battle the gym, so it's been able to maintain its level 8 status for a while.

      I like the fast turnover rate because if people just put their strongest Pokemon in gyms, I often find it easier to take down an enemy gym than to train up a friendly gym. If every gym was level 7+ and full of strong Pokemon, I'd never get anywhere.

    My highest gym defender bonus at one time was 11.
    it was 3-4 in the morning and I drove around finding gyms. i could have gotten more if i wanted to drive around more. When I got up at noon I only had 4 gyms left.
    I did this another time and got 9 gyms and when I woke up in still had 7.
    the best places to keep gyms are rural areas. I found a church gym 10 miles from the nearest small town in the mountains of Pennsylvania. I held that gym for 15 days.
    I helps when your job is driving a van around the country. When I have the time I will drive through small towns and find gyms.

    From my experience, in most cases beating an enemy gym is more time-efficient than training a friendly gym up.
    I think the best method is to take your bicycle and drive swiftly from one gym to another, preferably ones that don't have much foot traffic. Then don't invest more than five minutes to train a gym up. That means generally, if the prestige needed to reach the next level is more than 2000, go on to the next gym. With enemy gyms you need to consider how fast you can get the gym down. Level 7 gyms, for example, always take their time to take down but you also get quite a lot of experience out of it.
    If you are low on potions, leave a pokemon in the gym that you don't want to hold on to so that you can send it to the professor after it got defeated in the gym.
    Also consider the time of day. Obvioulsy it is easiest to hold on to gyms at night. One night I even managed to get 100 coins at once.

  • @tonyschimmoeller4439
    @tonyschimmoeller4439 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nick, I know this is an older video but some advice. Taking gyms is much easier than training up a gym. If you're with even one other person it's easy to collect 10 coins a day. What we do is stagger our attacks to take gyms down even faster. A lvl 3 gym usually has 6000 experience. Defeating it gets you 3000 and will knock out 1 pokemon. Defeating 2 pokemon gives you 2500 so that way you'd have to battle it 3 times. So what we do is halfway through the second pokemon we start the second attacker so that way they defeat 3 pokemon as well and we both take down 3000 experience. We do this put an average pokemon such as pidgeot or anything pretty common to your area.
    For reference, I live in a city with maybe only 20 gyms total spread out through out the city. I do drive to each of them however I am able to do this is 1-2 hours. I imagine bigger cities have a harder time with this than average cities.
    Also a side note we often leave pidgeottos because we evolve pidgeys for the experience and don't want to use the potions on them so we simply transfer them when we lose the gym. If we happen to find gyms out of the downtown area we leave our better pokemon to attempt to hold it.
    Stats I have hatched 140 pokemon from eggs and have spent no money on the game. I am a lvl 27 trainer and currently have 5 10k eggs hatching at the same time and one 5k egg.

    • @tonyschimmoeller4439
      @tonyschimmoeller4439 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also the staggered method should just be aware of the pokemon you're facing as well as the ones you're using. If you're facing 2 flareons then a snorlax and you're both using vaporeon you may want to wait until the snorlax is 3 quarters life.

    It's also important to go out at good times. Most Pokemon GO players don't come out in the morning, so trying to capture a lot of gyms then is much easier. Also because turn over rate is so high I don't ever train gyms up past where I can drop a Pokemon there, not worth the resources. I consistently collect a defender bonus of 10 everyday and it takes between 1.5 to 3 hours of driving to different gyms that are close to my house. Just spam as many as you can, in as quick a time period as you can. Also I like seeing enemy gyms rather than friendly ones because it takes so much more resources to train up a friendly gym than take down an enemy one. Leaving one Pokemon doesn't matter because you only need to hold the gym for around 3 hours.

  • @vtmegrad98
    @vtmegrad98 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    In my experience, building up a gym using pokemon that have about 3/4 the CP of the lowest defender works out best. You still get 600-750 prestige, and you aren't running on such a tight margin that you waste time on matches that end in a loss. Another strategy that's helped me a lot is focusing on only keeping lower level pokemon that have the first or second rated dps skill set. In fact, I've got a Wartortle with a 93% IV that I can't bring myself to evolve, because he also has the top dps skill set, and easily tears apart much stronger stuff. The same applies to a Rhyhorn I have with a 672cp, but near perfect IVs.
    I say this as someone who currently has 14 gyms, and I haven't dropped below 11 in days. Part of that was based on already using the strategy that you suggested here.

    There are a small number of 100% energy moves that really are nasty on defense. Hyperbeam and Solar Beam especially. If the defender has high HP and the attacker has low HP, then the defender will last long enough to get power a beam and the attacker will fold like a cheap suitcase.

    My largest collect was 10 gyms. He is right about isolated gyms and CP placement. A defender at the 7th-10th level in my town usually lasts 3-4 days, because enemy teams need a group to take down a large gym. The defenders I had in isolated gyms also lasted 3-4 days because players are not going out of their way to attack them. So after my 10 defender collect, I still had about six in the next 24 hours, and four in the next 48 hours. My semi-permanent defenders are how I rack up pokecoins.

    Good tip I use when leaving defender Pokemon is trying to augment the other defenders. Lets say ranking of 3 Pokemon from lowest cp to highest: fire, water then Flying/dragon. when training I find the water to be a real tough defender. Even though I have a stronger Pokemon than the water I will put a lower CP ground type that is stronger than the fire to make defeating the water type a little more difficult.
    This doesn't always help but overall it makes the gym just a little more difficult to take.

  • @acorntu

    Defending gyms works well when you go to remote gyms, "territories" , and pay to enter places. Remote places are your best bet once players start to settle in and claim "home" gyms. Territories can be observed over time as areas where the gyms there are almost always of one faction and high levels. These might be found through local team Facebook pages or google+ pages. Pay to enter has to be something super boring to the common person, that isn't a nest, and that costs more than someone is usually willing to spend to go there. I'm actually surprised your island gyms went down so quickly! They should have stuck for a while, but it could have just been bad timing or that they weren't big enough to be scary.

  • @swarm9582

    You can also get a friend of an enemy team to attack a high level gym of your team just enough to lower its level. For example; when they drop it to 7900/8000 you can just have him run away so you can power it back up to over 8000. It will drop the lowest level pokemon out and let you put your own in its place. Free spot in a high level gym without having to sit for an hour grinding it up.

  • @acorntu
    @acorntu 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    my only problem with the idea of gaining prestige equal to half of the defender CP is that all of your powerful defenders right now have TONS of health and sit at the top of gyms, not at the bottom, so you'd never get to them or even with enough health to begin to try and win. That, and higher cp also comes with higher health in evolved forms, so there is a certain point where you are fighting fully evolved pokemon with massive health with your first stage pokemon with maybe half of the defender's health. I think that the current ratio is fine for mid tier fights, and that two separate ones could exist for super low CP fights (in order to eliminate bubble strat) as well as another formula for higher tier fights to make them more rewarding for the off chance you are fighting a 2500-3k pokemon in the lower levels of a gym.

  • @DHJakon
    @DHJakon 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    The attacker bias in gyms is a good thing. You want to encourage all players, not just the hard cores, to try the mini game. A tilt to defense, even towards balance, will discourage new players or casuals. Also with bubblestrat, the fainting=revive item was a nerf. The original strat already had very specific requirements but now you have to use resources every time you fail a round.

    You can get the 10 gym bonus, obviously if you live in a massive city its going to be a lot harder, but I live in a small town where there is lots of gyms but they never go past level 4 or 5, ive had 7 multiple times and 8 a few times, the biggest problem is the investment in time, It takes me roughly 2 half hours to get 8 gyms and basically all of my battery. Getting 3 a day is much more doable and rewarding. In small medium sized towns you can get to know the patterns of the gyms quite easily and for me getting 3 is easy as I know the ones that typically last longer before being contested and the ones that are really popular and organise my route into the way I can get the less contested ones first and finish on the most popular ones. Although when I do just 3 I not much planning is needed and u can just go for the 3 closest ones.

    If you are the 7th gym member, do everyone a favor and put a STRONG defender in!
    Also, since the Vap nerf on the 29th, diligence became the deciding factor for holding a gym here in my neighborhood. Before, it kept changing hands; now, Instinct has held the gym since July 29th - UNINTERRUPTED! For those counting, this Friday makes 5 weeks!! So, 300 coins and 15,000 stardust total bounty.
    One should start at home - win and hold a gym close to home. Never spend potions anywhere else except your home gym until it reaches 52,000 prestige. Also, monitor your gym while at home and when an attacker begins, go out and defend the gym while they are there to discourage them.
    This is a team game, your advice of reaching out to friends is sound. I wasn't able to meet up with my friends so I sent them the address and they went and added their own monsters!

    Another great way is to go to rural areas and take gyms (although, that's likely not too easy for you being from LA). I was lucky enough to be driving through a rural area near where I live about a week ago and I helped build up an Instinct gym and my Pokemon is still there! Anyway, just wanted to give some hope that gyms can be held for a while if they are in the right location.
    Sidenote: Nick I have lots of family in LA (Downey actually) so next time I'm there I'll gladly help you hold down some Instinct gyms!

    Gyms also last a bit longer in rural areas/small towns. I live in a smaller town, and I had a Pokemon in one gym for about a week. I've also collected 7 as my defender bonus 3 days in a row.
    Also, go team Mystic!

  • @voshadxgathic
    @voshadxgathic 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also, I can confirm that you cannot collect for more than ten gyms at once. However, eventually working your way up to 10+ level ten gyms, will give you a buffer against losing your 10 gym bonus. Unless an enemy team(s) groups up to take out all your gyms, holding 12-15 gyms should secure your daily bonus. And spending a little time training and reclaiming gyms each day should be enough to solidify your power over an area.

  • @voshadxgathic
    @voshadxgathic 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm lucky enough to have about half the players in my city on my team. Sometimes we meet up as a group of 2-3 but mostly it's just good timing and maintaining our gyms. (Most of my actual friends before or after Pokemon are other teams)
    However, with mostly traveling by foot, I'm restricted to the downtown area I live near. In spite of this, I've been collecting gym bonuses of 8+ for several weeks, and in fact, my Gyarados has been sitting in the same gym for over 3 weeks now.
    My advice is to start small, maintaining one to three gyms at a time until your team consistently has them up at level 10 and are rarely contested. Then you can look to expand your territory from there.

    Why are so many people so salty on these comments? 2 things to throw in here 1.) I think it makes way more sense to knock down enemy teams gyms then to train up other gyms (if you're alone). It's just faster and you potions are easily farmed in big cities. 2)you'll probably discover this in your future videos but if you have a gym at level 10 in, less busy areas, With only 1700+ cp Pokemon some people don't even try to take it. Makes it really easy to hold for a week+. From experience people usually end up knocking it down just cause they are tired of seeing it.

      It did take a good amount of resources, but at the time I had too many. I was deleting revives down to 90-100 (before the patch).
      Four people would be much more ideal... also was running low on what to leave. I kept 6 of my best 10 to do the battling, until the final two gyms. I was either level 23 or 24 and my brother one behind me (sometimes the same).
      Tried the magicarp trick... honestly I prefer to leave a fire type on the bottom if possible, Rapidash or flareon (ponyta is a regular spawn here) and using a vaporeon to beat it. Unless the gyms lowest cp is lower than 1000. I have seen nine pokemon for yellow at a gym (including ours) and we raised its prestige to 10. Only to have it gone the next day.
      However if the gym is partially beat, it would be best to strengthen it with higher cp pokemon... if possible.
      As for what to leave, we take in consideration what is there and what a good mix up would be to make it harder to always have type advantage. If there is a gym with a really high vaporeon (2000+) I may leave a 1500's to take on some that would have an advantage towards him. It can go either way for what we end up leaving.

    I've had 2 Pokémon in Gyms for about 2 weeks now... One of them you barely have service and nobody gies there, and another is a level 10 Mystic gym in the middle of a highway in the middle of nowhere. It's pretty great!

    Just a note: if you find level 9 gyms you can add to them and make it easier to hold them; For example.. I have had a vaporeon in a gym for 6 weeks :) and I have held 5 level 10 gyms for about 2 weeks excluding the gym with vaporeon.

    As for defending gyms, I somehow managed to hold one for 3 days at a very busy diner in Omaha. I too was able to collect my biggest reward yet of 3 gyms defended. But most of the time I've been lucky to hold one for longer then 5 minutes, even in locations that aren't very busy

    Longest I've ever held a gym was 64 consecutive hours. Put in my 1402 Slowbro with Water Gun/Ice Beam. The gym was right next to my town's post office too, so maybe I just got lucky and people just weren't in the mood to take it back.

    I agree with you, I think the difficulty of the battle should make a difference. I also think it would be nice to get my candies and/or stardust etc for capturing and/or transferring stronger pokemon, too.

    Since I live in a smaller town I have been able to travel with a group to achieve holding 10 gyms at a time a couple of times. Guess that is the bonus to being rural over city, and city spawn rates/nests to rural towns.

    I find it ironic that you mentioned that you will never collect a 10 defender bonus, and today was the first day I was able to achieve this. I live in a small town with a lot of gyms due to the high amount of churches here. I believe that most people have lost interest in the game here because pokemon barely spawn, and there isn't a great place to for pokestops. Gym battles were awesome in the first few days, since that's mostly what we had here, but but about 2 weeks ago botter/spoofer placed 2500cp + pokemon in all the gyms and maxed out the prestige. The only part of the game that was good here was ruined. It took a team of 6 2k vaporeons about 200 revives, and about 300+ hyper potions, and about 30 trips to near by cities to refill my items to finally get rid of them all, but today I was rewarded, accomplishing my goal of collecting a 10 defender bonus. Good luck on your gym adventure bonus, but keep in mind that it's only hard to keep gyms because you live in a place where the game is fun to play, and players haven't quit yet.

    I've managed to get 10 gyms at once a few times. My wife works on Sunday and I don't. So when she goes to bed Saturday night I go out around 3am and take over gyms while everyone else is in bed. As long as you are like me and don't sleep on the weekends, this can work out well for you.

    The secret to keeping a gym for ages: it has terrible service for every mobile/cellar service, making attacking difficult, make sure the gym is in a hard to reach places (in the middle of a roundabout with no path for walkers) and in a place that is closed all night which means there will be less players 24/7

    Just claimed my biggest gym defender bonus yet! 8 gyms total for 4000 stardust (560k total) and 80 coins. Hatched 6-5k eggs and leveled up right after; putting me up at level 27. Aside of my hatches being compete crap, lol it was a pretty good night.

    I collect on 9 or 10 almost every day, I take down big gyms by myself, the key is to take more than 10 gyms so that when other teams take down a gym or two, you still have close to 10. The most ive held is 19 gyms at once and I still had 10 or more for over a week. VALOR

    The frustrating part with training at a friendly gym is you only get one pokemon to take on the resident pokemon. Usually those are pretty strong so you may only defeat one or two of them. Then you have to constantly revive and potion up your pokemon to keep raising the gym prestige enough to add one of your own. By the time you do, someone else could have been slightly ahead of you and added theirs before you had the chance, or enemy trainers can defeat the gym while you are training or just after you add yours to the gym. To me its a crapshoot and to this day (level 23) I have not been able to keep a Pokemon at a gym for 24 hours. Just take down weak enemy gyms and snag the 10 pokecoins is your best option til you have several 2000 cp pokemon who could possibly defend a gym for an entire day.

    I collect no less than 6 gym defender bonuses every day. Location, location, location. Also it helps when you aren't on team instinct. Not hating, its just the least popular of the 3 (at least where I live). I never see level 10 instinct gyms ever. Pick your battles, try to join higher prestige gyms & build your defensive squad up.

    I find it far easier to take gyms than boost a same team gym.
    Time is a factor to. I live in the UK and cycle about 10 miles to work leaving around 0400hrs. I can usually take between 6-10 gyms. Some of the more rural gyms stay with me for days.
    We do need a balance on gym battles, as is said in this video.

    I feel like you undervalue the benefits of the high gym turnover. The purpose of the system is to allow trainers to not get locked out. By making it easy to take gyms, a level 17 player can take down gyms with level 25 trainers on it. They will have higher CP pokemon and have like 10 times the exp, but the lower level player still gets to play the game. Under a more "fair" system, lower level trainers or just people who got in late wouldn't be able to bother with gyms until they spent a large amount of time on the game.
    The videos are great, the edits were pretty funny, and keep up the good work.

    I've been hearing alot of people talking about how they haven't played Pokemon Go in a week or more lately. The biggest complaint I've heard is that its too complicated and competitive now with including the "new" focus on IVs and the requiring revives for training up a gym, etc. It kind of sucks because I really enjoyed the huge response Pokemon Go received early on from, both long time pokemon gamers and especially those who had never touched a pokemon game before. It just seems to be dying off a little now...

    I pretty much agree with all you said in the video, though I would value leveling own gyms even lower than you do. The current gym system is incredibly flawed due to it extremely favoring the attacker which results in it being pretty much impossible to hold on to a gym for longer than an hour at most if you´re alone. Making the own team´s gym stronger also discoursages reasonable solo players from going in which is something I barely ever took in account, mostly due to me never really trying to raise own nearby gyms. However, I found that strengthening own gyms tends to be pretty difficult if there´s not the random Pidgeot or Flareon that you can level up on easily and, most of the time even goes heavier into your resources since you can effectively counter-team an opposing gym when you´re attacking, which usually made it not really worth the effort for me. Also, if you´re setting in a weaker mon just to make leveling up easier, you set yourself at risk of being kicked out by the first attackers which would effectively lower the time in which you could actually claim a decent bonus.
    Coming from this, I think the most effective way is a short-hand route. Don´t try to hold a gym for long, just as many as possible in a short time. The way I go about is that I usually start my route at a 2000-4000 gym of my own team and try to claim all 3 nearby gyms in my area while always leaving the strongest available Pokemon there to stall for as much time as possible. Of course, there´s a lot more factors that go into this as accesibility of the gym, time of day and the number of people running around (also, your own team of course as passersby might leave a few mons there for you which in turn buys you more time) which you can take into account when you pick starting points and possible Pokemon to drop (i.e. if I know the gym is tough to access and is only attacked a few times, I don´t need too strong of a Pokemon to get the time I need to cash in a proper bonus). This, of course, doesn´t work if any of the aforementioned factors, especially other people, get in your way there which is why I tend to pick a gym for gym raids when less people are on the move (typically midday or night).
    I average out on about 3 bonuses, though I pretty often get 4 and as that seems to be the highest you ever got, I guess that´s actually pretty good, then. Dunno how well it works for Instinct as you guys have quite a numerical disadvantage but if you eliminate the "people" factor as much as possible, then this should easily be possible for you, too if you find a good spot with a few close gyms.^^ Possibly even better as you´re much more dedicated when it comes to finding nice spots for playing Go.

    Another method other people use is going out late at night or early in the morning taking over multiple gyms then collecting their coins right away. I always notice the 5 gyms I can see from my house taken over by the same people in the middle of the night, and notice the same names in other gyms around the neighbourhood.

    You should bring up how secondary evolves or final stage pokemons should be more stardust and candies. To make them worth catching. Cause as of now I don't even bother looking their way. Just a waste of balls and time trying to catch them when I can catch the first stage ones for just the same amount of stardust and candies

    My personal record is 7 gyms at same time. I have to disagree with him on one thing though. I find that training up a friendly gym takes far too much time, effort and potions to be worth it. it is so much easier and quicker to take down an enemy gym simply because you have 6 pokemon at your disposal. Even if you use the bubble strat unless you have multiple players from same team with you, it wouldn't really matter since you already put a weak pokemon in the gym. You can't switch them out.
