    I get a lot of questions about type advantage and which moves to use against certain Pokémon. Today I cover exactly how type advantage works and share a few tools you can use to make choosing your gym matchups a little easier.

    Ground beats Poison because you can't poison rocks, dirt and...ground, I guess. I don't know, that's how I always remembered it. Cause, you know, the poison won't seep into it and it won't be absorbed.

    • @whoknows1673
      @whoknows1673 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on what you consider to be a poison. You can definitely poison/spoil ground with toxic waste, chemicals, etc. Everything you put into ground stays there for longer or shorter period of time and effects everything growing from it.

    Hey Nick,
    What is more important ?Higher CP, Type Advantage or best move set?

    • @ZoRoSdIb
      @ZoRoSdIb 8 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      If you don't include IV's in this than you clearly don't know Nick very well.

    • @Zaccheus4
      @Zaccheus4 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Species is the most important. Some min are just far superior to others, i.e. Vaporeon compared to jolteon. Next is move set. The quicker you kill them the less damage you take and the moves seem to be the biggest predictor for damage.

    • @zirawiley9283
      @zirawiley9283 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my opinion i think its a good move set.

    • @randomdrifter

      A strong IV with a weak moveset is kinda bad, but an average IV with a good moveset might leave you wanting emotionally, but you can actually use them effectively in gym battles
      That's my experience anyway :)

  • @pizzamozzarella4686
    @pizzamozzarella4686 8 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    Wait, what about STAB? It actually exists in GO, right? Making it so if your move is the same type as your Pokémon, it does more damage.

    • @lunch7213

    I found that using Emolga (-Yes, I know it doesn't exist in GO yet.) with electric type moves against Gyarados in GO is like using a Pokemon with an offense OVER that of Deoxys just because it gets ×2.56 with type advantage. Using Jolteon is like using a Pokemon virtually double of that offense stat. Both Emolga and Jolteon are better than Entei against Gyarados.
    In the main series, Emolga can 1 or 2 shot Gyarados with electric type moves because it deals ×4 with type advantage. I know this from a simulation.
    Type advantage can make a huge difference!

    One thing that I like to emphasize whenever I talk about battling is that what matters when it comes to the attacker is the *move* type, not the pokemon using it.
    It's very common for people to think "squirtle is strong against charmander and charmander is weak against squirtle." But we have to remember that if squirtle's only moves are tackle and growl, than what good is it (offensively) being a water type?

    Recommendation: you mentioned how beneficial it would be for move sets to be identified when choosing for a battle. This is why I let my 4 year old help me name all of my heavyweights. We have "Water Puppy" to identity my hydro pump Vaporeon. Likewise, we have "Flamethrower" "Coldsnap" and "Pineapple" This helps us remember who to choose.

    I feel like you should have mentioned that immunities aren't active in the game. So the people that are used to regular Pokemon (like myself) are aware that you can still get hit by a Raichu's Spark while using a Marowak (something I tested). It's kind of obvious and not really surprising that they would keep those out of the game, but I think people would still appreciate some clarification on it.
    But, it would also be good to cover the differences of how Ground would affect Flying in this game, because normally it wouldn't do anything at all. Also since one of the main attractions to using a Flying type (or a Pokemon with the Levitate ability) is that you can't be touched by Ground type moves, namely Earthquake.
    I'm assuming it would be super effective, since I'm pretty sure that's how it works in the main franchise if, for example: the flying type used the move Roost (and was susceptible to Ground type attacks), or if the move Gravity (having the same effect) was used on the Flying type beforehand.
    That also means Flying types have an extra weakness that they wouldn't normally have.
    I'll list the immunities for anyone reading that wants to test them to see for themselves:
    Ground - Flying
    Electric - Ground
    Fighting - Ghost
    Normal - Ghost
    Ghost - Normal
    Poison - Steel
    Psychic - Dark
    Dragon - Fairy

  • @humblepawn
    @humblepawn 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    3:07 Hold up, while ground is super effective towards fire, it does NOT resist fire for some reason. Omastar and Kabutops, as water and rock types, would be better examples than Golem and Rhydon as quad resistance to fire. It is also important to note that while in the main series games normal, ghost, ground, electric, dragon, and poison type attacks do 0 damage to ghost, normal, flying, ground, fairy, and steel type Pokémon, respectively, the interactions were simplified in Pokémon Go to a 0.8 multiplier.

    I don't call them "Mega Stops" either. I call the whole process "Factor of 10" which is as or even more lame. But I love this channel and I share your videos most every day, and try to chat you guys up to everyone who will listen. You guys are the apex of Pokemon Go videos. Did you hear yet that the next update is going to let you check IVs in-game? Gonna be great! Quoted directly from Niantic's Pokemon Go website: "Trainers will now be able to learn about a Pokémon’s attack and defense capabilities from their Team Leader (Candela, Blanche or Spark) to determine which of their Pokémon have the most potential for battle." Doesn't say outright that they're going to let you check the exact values, but at the very least you'll get some idea of how good a Pokémon is!

    thanks for the video nick, I watched it twice. :) Firstly, I don't get tired of the sunsets. I like how you go beyond the game and explore real world places especially Hawaii!!! it's great that you take time like that in your videos, thank you. Secondly, how did you know that exeggcute would not give you above 80% IV if it was over 2500 stardust? how did you calculate that so quick? is there a trick to memorize the basics of IV calculation? Thanks, love to come home each day after a good day's hunt and watch your videos with my wife. We learn so much! :)

    Great video as always, i am well informed about the Typings advantage/disadvantages myself, but recently i started thinking about the Psychic typings disadvantages vs Bug, Dark and Ghost types and what you said about that makes perfect sense.
    On Bugs though, i think it's also because at least some Bug Pokémon are part of a hive-mind/collective consciousness :) Just my 2 cents though ^^

    On Android, I use an app called Go Helper for types. It only does weaknesses, but it does do double weaknesses. It also works as an overlay, so you can reference while playing without having to leave Pokemon Go.

    Yes water beats fire because it puts it out unless the fire is so hot the water instantly evaporates, which can also happen with electricity it's called electrolysis. But in most systems it doesn't account for stuff like this.
