    I tried this but failed. Does it matter what size everything is? My first attempt the cylinder just went straight through the towel and the towel crumpled. Trying it again but in a new project so I know my settings are all set to the defaults. EDIT: I've tried this multiple times and it is really hard to anticipate where the towel is after the first fold, then the second fold, then of course the third fold. You will have to scroll through your timeline and make adjustments until you get it how you want it. As for the towel flying off the table, make sure your "floor" friction is turned down I set mine at 30 not 80 and when you are pulling the cylinder out make sure the cylinder is above the "floor" not touching it. With enough refinement you can get it to look how you want it to. :)

    • @lobonzlobo
      @lobonzlobo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Had this issue too, just keyframe the Object collisions on the cloth, you hit "I" to insert a keyframe while hovering over the checkbox in the Physics tab while its checked on frame 99, then move to frame 100 uncheck it and keyframe it, then keyframe it unchecked again on frame 101, this is when the cylinder is removed, then on frame 102 check the Object Collisions checkbox again and keyframe it so its ready for the next collision on the second fold.

    Hey, why does the cylinder after it touches the towel kinda draws in the tcloth material inside...

    • @zentriceggofficial
      @zentriceggofficial 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Notice in the video the cloth wraps around the cylinder with a gap. If the cloth passes through the middle of the cylinder then shrinks to nothing you need to delete that cylinder and make a new one.

  • @MrBabbyTube
    @MrBabbyTube 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Can anyone help me? When I apply "self collision" to the cloths Blender goes crazy: or it completely freezes and I have to restart it or the mesh shrinks on itself. I don't understand why it gives me this problem and yet I follow the tutorial step by step by putting the same identical values for both the cloth and the collision. I also tried changing the "vertex mass" and also the "distance" values to "self collision" but it still doesn't work.

    • @darkdeifan
      @darkdeifan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have the same problem. even better: before enabeling self collision my towel would be afected by the cilinder and table but fall through them; after self collision the towel shrinked on it self; I disable self colision => it keeps shrinking on itself

    • @zentriceggofficial

    • @4.0.4
      @4.0.4 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I felt it was perfectly explained, but maybe it will help you to know you just have to scrub through the timeline, change something (e.g., Grab with G, Scale with S, Rotate with R...) and Insert a keyframe with I, then repeat this process for every movement you want to animate. You can also use F3 to bring the searchable menu or use the mouse.

    Before I get started. I tried something similar with a "dropped cloth" over a table. I let a table-cloth, fall onto a table and the cloth just bounces and bounces and bounces. what cause this? I tried extending the thickness of the table-top (since it was covered anyway) to the length of the cloth being draped. But still bouncing and folding into a ball and rolling around in cyber space like an asteroid wadded ball. Finally I used weight paint and deleted the top of the table and it stopped bounding, but I had to remove the table to do this. What I wanted was a couple wrinkles in the drop, hence the dropping of the cloth. But it never worked out. Any ideas or experience with these problems? I use 2.82a.

  • @MikhailChernoskutov
    @MikhailChernoskutov 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    1:03 why do you need mesh geometry to be square shaped if after subdivision it's going to be small enough? Isn't physics simulation going to deal with it on its own? What are the benefits of sqaure-shaped geometry vs (for example) 2x1 rectangle or even triangle?

    • @whiteband9263
      @whiteband9263 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      well let's say you didn't shade it smooth, then you would be able to see the geometry's shape clearly. not only that, but the simulation can only move vertices which already exist, so if your mesh resolution would be small and you would have a 2x1 rectangle your simulation would be different from one with 1x1 squares because it simply can't bend as much as it needs to.

    Hello there, the tutorial is very good you explained everything very clear, except when the moment to move the cylinder and make the keyframes arrived, If you don't know how to do it, the tutorial is workless for beginners, ( like me), so I would love to do it, but the most important step is missing ( keyframes and animation), thanks anyway, but consider the beginners next time, who actually are the ones watching this..:-P

    The tutorials are great, but could you go more into the why? for instance when you checked self collisions on the towel, you set the distance to 0.01, that works for this specific instance, but it would be much more helpful if you explained what the distance slider does, so we know how to use it in future projects, to show more the theory behind it instead of just the numbers. no hate, just my thoughts
