Bundle in a slight redesign and a few gimmicks and then use it to justify raising the price by 15-20% on the base model. This 16/512 standard config is a great move! It shows that Apple got a 16 GB RAM base model in the pipeline. Maybe for MacBook Air M4? Apple might go for 12 GB RAM standard for M4 (6+6 GB) but let's hope for 16 GB!
      Standard RAM in MBA...
      2008-2010 = 2 GB
      2011-2015 = 4 GB
      2016-2024 = 8 GB
So the last 9 versions with 8 GB RAM.
What about SSD in the cheapest MBA13?
      2010-2019 = 128 GB (10 straight models)
      2020-2024 = 256 GB (the last 5 versions)
The first model ever was Early 2008...
      1799 dollar
      13" non-Retina
      2 GB RAM
      80 GB HDD
Now the base model MBA13 M3 is 700 dollar cheaper, from 2 to 8 GB RAM and from 80 GB HDD to 256 GB SSD and from non-Retina to Retina.
The first 999 dollar model was Early 2014. Now the cheapest is 1099, but they got the last-gen for 999. It's a pretty smart move by Apple!

However, fully load it with 24GB / 1TB and you're not that far away in price from an M3 Macbook Pro with a much nicer display, active cooling and more ports. @@kianathari32 but in reality the base m3 is the better option to do as it will be supported for much longer. What you are factoring in is for your above average user. These books are mainly for the super average user that browses the web and youtube. I think thats where apple does their best marketing cause it confuses people so much that they feel they need the 10 cores or the upgraded 16gb. Reality is you only need those things if you are gaming and doing some photo or video processing. BASE MODEL IS AIMED AT AVERAGE USERS. Apple does a super good job at keeping the price points for their "upgrades" fairly close to make it confusing.

Does the M3 have slow SSD as well?

    • @geoffstrickler
      @geoffstrickler 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@mananagarwal7002 Yes, probably. First, it’s “relatively slow”, that is, compared to the 512GB or larger SSDs. But even the “slow” 250GB SSD is at least 10x the speed of the best HDD, and is fast enough that few users/processes will show a notable difference. Sure, you can measure it with benchmarks, and might notice in copying large files, but for most tasks, you won’t notice.
Assuming Apple sticks with a single 256GB module vs the 2x128GB modules they used on the M1 256GB machines, then yes, the M3 256GB will be “limited” to about 1500MB/s.
It’s mostly an issue because Apple also includes just 8GB RAM on the base models, meaning they’ll use swap more, and combining increased use of swap (virtual memory) with the slower SSD is something of a double whammy. If they bumped the base to 12GB/16GB OR used 2x128GB SSD modules, or 2x256GB SSD modules, then it wouldn’t be as big of an issue. It’s the combination of 8GB RAM and the use of a single SSD (NAND Flash) module that creates an issue, for some tasks.
Apple’s insane pricing for more RAM and/or SSD storage just exacerbates the problem. They need to bump the base RAM to 12GB/16GB, and lower the premium for upgraded RAM/SSD storage. Not that I expect them to do that until they see sales slumping.

Two things. First, since the new Airs aren’t out yet, we do not know if the 256GB storage option is slower than 512GB option. It probably is, but keep in mind when Apple revised the M3 MBP’s they eliminated the slower flash from the lowest end models, using at least double chip configs for all. Were these implemented in single chip mode in the M2’s because of specific chip shortages, perhaps? We don’t know, but don’t automatically assume the 256GB versions of the M3 are slower. Apple’s never explained their reasoning for why some models used only one chip. Most assumed it was to upsell, but we can’t see their supply chain. Might be good to wait for reviews before assuming they’re slower.
Second, Apple has said they’re issuing a software update to allow the M3 MBP the ability to operate two monitors in clamshell mode as well, so keep that in mind if your choice is between an M3 MBA or MBP.

M3 being on the 3nm process means fewer electrons to move around the chip than the M2, which ought to mean less heat but the M3 does add more hardware such as codecs so the benefit may depend on how it is used.

    • @TheoST8
      @TheoST8 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@therobyouknowtv that’s not exactly how it works. I mean if it’s hotter and you have a longer task to complete it doesn’t really matter how faster it is as the processor will throttle and drop its frequency. So imagine that if the m2 is slower by let’s say 15% than the m3 but the m2 gets hotter slower by let’s say 2 or 3 minutes on 100% utilisation then the difference is small on performance gains for the m3 even for short tasks. However i really just expect to see some real tests regarding these 2 processors as I might be completely wrong and I just make speculations at this point with the current pro models and the air m2

I am rocking a M1 MacBook Air for work and browsing/multimedia. To me it’s still the perfect machine for these, albeit a slightly smaller screen than I hoped. But I can definitely live with it for years to come. Also it has the OG wedge industrial design that I find much better looking than the current gen

Great video! But what should I do:
I had a 2018 MacBook Pro with an i7 chip, 16gb of ram and 512gb storage. I used to do a lot of 3D rendering and graphic jobs, but have since stopped doing such jobs. My old machine died a few weeks back. It just stopped turning on at one point, and now I need to buy a new one. I figured I do t need the pro anymore, but will still do some lightweight graphic jobs and renderings.
Should I get the M2 or M3, and should I get the 8/16gb version?
    Any suggestions are welcome.

Getting rid of the wedge design is the biggest mistake they ever made with the MacBook Air. The new Air is technically thinner than its predecessor at its thickest point, but it feels and looks way thicker. Even my 2015 MacBook Pro feels thinner than the new Air.

@@haysoos123 I own both. I know exactly what they look and feel like. The Air is much much lighter obviously, but the 2015 MBP also has a tapered design along all its edges. The side of the laptop looks deceptively thin because the tapered design conceals how thick it actually is.

@@fivehundrediq5212 the same 3 trillion dollar company that kept the butterfly keyboard around for almost a decade, despite years of complaints and problems, and ended up paying a $50 million settlement to customers in a class action lawsuit? Even big companies can make bad design decisions. In this case they changed the design just to switch it up a bit, not because there was anything wrong with the previous design. The new design is fine, I’m just saying that the MacBook Air doesn’t feel so “Air” anymore.

If you don't do productivity tasks you even don't need more than the M1 Base version!
As you M3 MBA now support 2 Displays your multitasking tests should be done with a lot open parallel ACTIVE tasks (not just opened but heavily working), so the tasks cannot be swapped out. It doesn't matter if you have 100 browser windows open if they are not visible and active because than they are swapped to the virtual memory, a browser window has not to be full screen especially on big external screen, you can have easily multiple windows in parallel visible at the same time AND doing work e.g showing 4 to 10 videos and rendering one or two videos in parallel, than you see how it behaves unders bigger stress.

When macOS Monterary updates/support ends late 2024 this year, I'll put Zorin OS Pro Linux on it which has a macOS skin. Fingers crossed that Zorin has drivers that support all the hardware, which I think is possible. Found Zorin OS to work very well indeed on a Panasonic FZ-G1 i5 touchscreen tablet PC, which doesn't support Windows 11 like a lot of capable PC hardware.

And even with just 8GB of RAM the SSD, that is fast in the M1 base, is actually giving the speeds that I need. So changing for the new, at least for now, is not an option.
