So I ended up pre-ordering the 16GB M3 Air as an upgrade from a 12GB 2016 ASUS and I can say that I am very happy with it. I have ran into 2 OS glitches that weren’t inconvenient at all and could be fixed by a simple power reset. I am a light user and a programmer (most demanding so far has been Android Studio) and have not ran into any lag except during very few intense scenes during Gamecube and PS2 games scaled up 6x to 4k resolution (and then downscaled to the 2k screen resolution). I get a stable 60FPS outside of these scenes, in all the retro games I have tried so far. No lag outside of gaming. All the (few) delays I have had have been WiFi issues. The base 256GB storage, whilst it has not been an issue for me, I always have at the back of my mind “How am I doing on storage?”. That gets annoying. I would never have that thought if I went for the 512GB model instead. But on a budget, unless you take 4k videos or download tons of applications (or a couple of applications + 4 or 5 very big applications like Adobe Premiere Pro), unless that sounds like you, 256GB should be more than enough for you.
I store everything locally, and have A LOT of files (some of which are relatively big). I also have a number of games, probably taking up over 30GB in total. But if I were to uninstall Garageband, Adobe Cloud, Photoshop, After Effects, Premier Pro (None of which have I ever used), I would probably have over 150GB left out of my 256GB total. Without uninstalling all that stuff, I have almost 90GB left.
This was a great video. I hate how you didn't mention SSD speed, or the lack of a fan, but I can forgive those because the energy was fantastic.

Great video! Love your energy and knowledge. I just got the M3 MBA base model and am agonizing if I should've gotten the 16 GB / 512 GB configuration instead. I mainly do Zoom calls, only a few browser tabs in Safari, TH-cam videos, and very light video editing (if any at all since I usually use my iPad Pro with LumaFusion). I keep telling myself that what I got is just fine for my needs, but then I see so many people recommending the 16 GB / 512 GB config. Can you provide your thoughts, please? Thanks!

Yo, I just wanted to ask what you think would be better, a 13 inch air with 512gb or a 15 inch air with 256gb(probably looking at external ssd). I'll use for school with light apps and just logic, final cut and a guitar plugin. No games just productivity and those 3 mentioned before. I'm looking at using it for the next 4 years, i prefer the feel and everything on the 15 but hoping 256gb would suffice.(my current school provided m1 256 has 150gb free after 2 years of software updates, files and useless school apps). Advice appreciated, thanks. I'm looking at the m2 for both of these but if m3 would be better lmk.

It comes down to price difference. M3 is definitely better. It is a noticeable upgrade as I tested them out. For more than $200 difference, I would get M2 but for $100 difference that apple list on its website, I would get M3.

I returned my M3 MacBook Air since it had a squeaky key. Apple said it was an aesthetic issue but no way can I deal with a squeaky key for a brand new MacBook Air. M2 MacBook Air arriving today.

I was able to pick up the 15inch M2 Air with 16gb, 1TB, 8 and 10 for $1500 last week at Best Buy. Might return cause I hate how dirty the midnight color gets. But I felt that was a good deal, they also have the new M3 MacBook pros discounted rn. Would that be a good purchase at 2900 from 3200 retail?

@@TausifHussain I did end up returning the M2 MBA and got the M3 MBP max. 2900 and added the 3 year apple care so pretty much retail price lol. I just opened an LLC so ill deduct it on taxes and decided to spend the extra bit to future proof myself for a while. Using it to edit photos and videos for my brand. Hoping it all goes well LOL
I have a M1 Mac mini as well as M1 MacBook Air both with 8gb, everything works smooth due to heavy SWAP usage. Can you please talk about SWAP, since some say SSD is damaged while others say its not since it will take 10+ years to degrade and its minimal.

Bought mine today. 13 inch base model MBA M3 Midnight color. Gonna return in tomorrow and go for another color... "Sticky fingers" is stil an issue... 😞
I mean you'll always have some degree of fingerprint issue with darker colours tbh. If it really bothers you then yeah lighter colours are the move!

I don’t think you have used midnight color enough to say it’s significantly better than M2 like you said. There is hardly any difference and my M3 catches smudges easily. It looks dirty and I have to clean it up. I am planning to get it replaced with Starlight it is still under return window

None, go with the MBA M2. The MBA M3 does not have really an improvement. Where is it? The 10% increase is because of the smaller production process and that's it. Smaller means less heat and in this case the speed can be ramped up to the thermal design. This is not worth mentioning it.
Apples figures are misleading. The Wifi 6E is not needed for most people.
I will keep my M2 MBA just bought it 2 weeks ago and it is a fantastic machine. Now I understand why so many people keep their M1 for years. Coming from a HP laptop going to M2 is night and day especially for photo editing everything here is smooth and....I don´t hear the fans.

Like Windows laptops this year, it is a minor iterative upgrade meant for people coming from the M1 or older Intel machines. It has a newer design than those, a faster CPU, 65% faster GPU, RayTracing support, a large neural engine, much longer battery life than Intel Macs, faster RAM and SSD, 1080p camera, brighter display (500 nits), MagSafe, etc. It is a fantastic upgrade for those coming from 4-Y-O machines, which, according to the industry, is the average upgrade cycle. Comparing year-on-year is just flexing as laptops are not meant to be upgraded yearly unless you are rich or run a business.
I had the m1 for a week and then the m3 air came out. Went back and returned and upgraded and surely glad I did. Im sure the m2 is just fine as well but I wanted longer support. either machine is just fine and total preference and budget.
Should I get MacBook Air m2 with 16bg ram 512 gb ssd or MacBook Air m3 with 16gb ram and 256ssd ? I’m a little tight on budget so both of these are of same price
How much price u getting m2 16gb
If you're getting those for the same price and the only diff is with m2 you get more storage and m3 you get lesser storage, then I'd personally go with the m3. Newer machine, better specs, will hold value a little better down the road, and you can always use cloud storage and ssd. However if 512 storage is non negotiable for you, then you have no other choice than the m2 haha.

Any Human being if they are buying a MacBook Air and expected to last at least 5 years or more, do yourself a favor, and get the 16gb ram at least, at this point I don't care what you're using it for, when it comes to Ram with 8gb you're already maxing it out by having like 2 tabs open in your browser and using swap memory which will eventually destroy your ssd in the long run, have you seen how many dead base model m1 MacBook Air there is, well that's because of the swap memory, and if you don't even need the storage just at least get the 16gb ram model. also keep in mind that 8gb of ram has been standard since like 2012 or 2013, well that's more than 10 years ago!
