Utterly lovely, thank you so much. I just bought a 2005 vfr with 40k kilometers, and after 400 it started making that typical noise. Imagine my happiness when I found that out, especially as I had just fixed the cct on my other Honda Nighthawk. I was like "please not that again"... I've watched this video 4 times over the last few days as I'm planning on attempting to do this on Saturday (day after tomorrow). I own a Honda VFR800 from 2004. I'm grateful for this video and if possible, I hope you can answer a few questions for me before then: 1. You said your CCTs weren't that bad so you added two extra revolutions of tension and mentioned that you could do 3 but it's potentially dangerous because you don't want to over-tighten; I've read a lot of scary stuff online about over-tensioning so I'm curious to ask you, should I only do one revolution of added tension unlike two as you did, then reinstall it and find out if it was enough (a ton of work if it isn't enough), or do you think going straight to two revolutions of extra tension as you did would be fine? 2. I think the noise in mine is coming from the top one - would it be fairly obvious and I'm over-thinking it? I'm afraid of adding tension to one that doesn't need it and thus over-tighten it. 3. Lastly, is this fix sorta long term or is it just going to get me by another 1k miles or something, then I need to purchase a new one anyway. If that were the case, perhaps I'd just order two new ones and replace them to get it over with. What are your thoughts on that? Thanks again for your video and your time.
Do two turns, it is a pain to put everything back together and hear the rattle still. If your worried buy new ones they are about $150 each last time I checked. Do both sine the lower tensioner by the exhaust is much easier to get at. This repair seems to hold up fine for long term. Good luck.
@@RodRidesWrenches Ok - I've done as instructed in your video! Thanks for the question & view! No you do not have to adjust the position of the crank/timing chains. The chains are not coming off the cams, just don't turn the engine over or try and start the engine with the cam chain tensioners out!
Just watched your video and hound it very helpful, I might be doing mine soon but my question is this, is it better to replace than tighten an existing one? Say due to age or mileage? Thanks
I can^t say which is better for your own situation. Replacing and upgrading is certainly an option. Its the same amount of labour work either way. These tensioners run about $150 each. But after 2 years i have had no problem with my retensioned tensioners. - Good Luck!
The oil presure affects the tension of the cct? Mi 600rr cam chain is rattling. I unscrew the cct just about 3mm and then i screwed it back on, it solved the problem for about 30 miles 😂. My bike has 9k miles 🤦♂️. Should I put a new cct or do you think I should use 10w40 oil? I'm using 10w30 right now
Almost every bike needs 10W40 oil, my VFR1200 specifically says 10W30 in the manual, that's the only one I've ever seen. The CCT is worn, tighten it up like in the video or replace it, you choice.
