Angelus should be running full tests and surveying lots of pros to find the best method to produce a factory finish *and* factory durability. Also, study if lamps could help set each coat and speed it up.
Thanks for this upload. The use of 2 hard was clutch. Been wanting to customize a pair of 6s and wasnt sure what to do about the rubber tongue. Thanks again.
Lowkey tuff!!! Takes a certain skill to color block a shoe uniquely and make it look like a potential colorway. Definitely not a basic colorway either.👍👍
Hi would u not add too hard to the leather as well?? And wT about sanding the leatger after the acetone? Is that not required? Thank you man. I'm really taking inspiration from your work.!!!!
Hey man, I'm splash painting some huaraches midsoles instead of painting because of the cracking. How would I seal, finish the midsoles after the speckles splats are done? Thanks for the great work again.!!!!!
Hey Danny, you can let it sit. No need for the finisher. It will not prevent the paint from coming off. It will however provide a "finished look". If that is what you are going for, then choose the finisher that you prefer most.
so glad to see someone sticking with just custom colors, just because its customs people go with images and stuffs..to me custom with colors look more custom made to suit your color preferrance and such
Unfortunately not. Although Angelus paint can be applied to soles/midsoles of shoes, it is not guaranteed to hold up. Therefore it is not recommended to paint on soles.
Focus on starting with really light layers. The first couple of coats may appear streaky but that will be get better after a few more coats. If you have any more questions feel free to contact us at Info@angelusshoepolish.com
Bruh... thank u for this simple, but crucial content... simple, no theme or concept, just cleaned it all up with that banana yellow NIKE branding on the heel. And yo. So glad u mentioned not doing the soles. I'm looking at my trip black huarache beaters that always bounce back on foot... but the sole keeps the creases. I woulda been hot if I went with painting these white ones' soles. One question... do u suggest getting a spray set up immediately? For finishes or even mask/painting... or can I use light brush finish? I want to practice everything by hand. I have most the Angelus starter stuff. Need a ton more obv. Colors n pads and shit. But do I need the spray gun??
Thanks for watching. Using an airbrush could have quite a learning curve so it's something that may take some time to get comfortable with. Once you get that down then it can really step up your custom game. Whether you are spraying or painting by hand, it's all about the light coats.
It maybe something to test and experiment with. We personally don't have any experience with that type of shoe. Rubber can be tricky to paint on and we try to avoid it in most situations.
If I'm just painting a word about 1-2 inches wide, should I use the preparer and deglazer? Will you be able to see the difference when the factory finish is removed off ?
Yes use the Preparer and deglzer. It is a absolute must to ensure the paint will adhere and last on the shoe. You shouldnt be able to see the difference of the finished that has been removed.
TL;DR This video was 🔥🔥, dude has good skills, and I like his "just do you" out look on customizing. Makes it alot less scary to start customs 👍. I like this video, it's pretty inspiring to know that you can still demonstrate your own style and creativity, without necessarily having to put a "face" or a "character" on a shoe. Tbh watching this tutorial made getting into customs a lot less intimidating. It shows it's not just about going with the trend, and that with keen attention to detail, precision, and persistence anyone can make a dope shoe.
I'm doing these with a bit of my own flavor, for lil sisters bday this week. Without a spray gun, what's your best method and type of finish do u use and just light coat brush strokes? Any help would be great. The nylon specifically but how u finish both that and leather parts with no compressor/gun?
Overall, the finisher is optional. The most important part is the prep. For the nylon areas, add a 50/50 mix of paint and Angelus 2-Soft, apply light coats and then heat set using a heat gun. For the leather, use our Leather Preparer and Deglazer to remove the factory finish. This will allow the paint to adhere and last. At the very end, if you choose to, apply 1-2 light coats of the finisher of your choice. Each finisher will provide a different amount of shine while adding a little extra protection against scuffs. As long as you prep the surface and paints you should be good to go. If you have any more questions feel free to contact us at Info@angelusshoepolish.com angelusdirect.com/collections/acrylic-finisher
Yes Normal will have quite a bit of shine compared to the Matte. Matte should have the 'flat' look with no shine. (make sure to shake the bottle really well)
Hey loved your video. Question, I'm having serious problems with my airbrush paint peeling off when I use masking tape to mask off certain areas. Any suggestions???
Hi, I would like to ask a question. How do I paint the swoosh logo on my airmax motion lw? Do i need to do some prep or just straight paint it? Planning to change the white color into gold using Angelus Gold Leather paint. Really need your tips. Thanks!
Try doing a real light sanding with a high grit sandpaper. This will provide some texture to help the paint adhere better. Then clean the area with our Leather Preparer and Deglazer. Use light coats of paint and you should be good to go. If you have any more questions feel free to contact us at Info@angelusshoepolish.com
Hello I need a paint to paint the rubber (rubber) on the side of the All Star Converse (not the sole) that is durable so that it does not get away with friction and friction, what kind of paint would it be, because I am from Argentina, Or else what kind of varnish? Thank you
Although Angelus paint can be applied to rubber of shoes, it is not guaranteed to hold up. Therefore it is not recommended to paint on that part of the shoe. It will most likely crack with any creasing or bending.
Yes, if you are planning to paint those areas then make sure to apply the Leather Preparer and Degalzer. It's used to clear the surface from any protective finishes and will help the paint to adhere.
The finisher is optional. If the shoe is prepped properly and the paint is applied correctly then you should still be able to wash the shoes. Finisher gives it the factory look. We carry 4 different finishers, each one has a different amount of shine.
Sky_mask ! Depends on the material you’re painting, canvas on vans can be painted with just acrylics from the art store. I don’t exactly know about other materials.
Angelus Paints utilize a flexible, self leveling, non-cracking formula that adheres to multiple surfaces such as leather, vinyl, patent leather, canvas and more when prepared properly. Going with cheaper paint may result in the paint cracking and chipping off. Here is a link to where you can find our paint. angelusshoepolish.com/pages/where-to-buy If you have any more questions feel free to contact us at Info@angelusshoepolish.com
Why does my matte finisher has a Lot of shine? Do i need to mix it with duller ? Or is their a different result if you use and airbrush instead of a brush?
Regardless of the finisher there is going to be some shine. High Gloss provides the most while Matte will have the least amount. For a complete dull/flat look we suggest adding a drop or two of Duller.
Yes, when using our paint with an airbrush we suggest using 2-Thin. We suggest using a 1 part 2-thin to 4 parts paint ratio (1:4) For spraying Finisher, 2-Thin is not required.
Correct, we recommend using 2 Hard with plastic or other hard surfaces to promote adhesion and film hardness. Here's a link: angelusdirect.com/products/angelus-2-hard-film-hardener
Sorry about that. What color is it? Some colors may contain thinner pigments which will require more coats but if it seems to be a problem with this specific paint then we suggest contacting the seller directly. Also, here is a link to our distributors who you can also get our paints from rather than ebay. angelusshoepolish.com/pages/where-to-buy
If the shoes are your standard AF! then you shouldn't need to use 2 Hard. 2-Hard will allow the paint to adhere to non-porous surfaces such as plastic or glass. Angelus 2-Hard promotes adhesion and film hardness. If you are planning to paint the sock liner or any Fabric materials then thats when you will mix our paint with our Angelus 2-soft. Mixing the 2 will help the paint adhere on that type of fabric materials. If you have any more questions feel free to contact us at Info@angelusshoepolish.com
Yeah, it's not guaranteed to hold up. He uses 2-Hard and applies very light coats of paint to give the paint a better chance. However, overall try to avoid rubber is possible.

Hi would u not add too hard to the leather as well?? And wT about sanding the leatger after the acetone? Is that not required? Thank you man. I'm really taking inspiration from your work.!!!!
No need. The 2-Hard will harden onto that surface. You need it flexible on the leather.

Classy and clean💯🔥
I loved everything except for the white laces
Good video.
hi bro i didn't want to know if you put a sealer so it doesn't remove the paint
Once the paint is dry, you are good to go. The finisher is optional as it is not considered a sealant.
Same reason for thought doing shoes, keep the good work going brother

Thats pretty dope!
Would it be possible to customize a pair of the Nyah Huston shoes (mainly all rubber I believe) and have it stick by using 2-Hard?
It maybe something to test and experiment with. We personally don't have any experience with that type of shoe. Rubber can be tricky to paint on and we try to avoid it in most situations.
Angelus Shoe Polish understood, thank you for the quick reply!
Is Matte just a finisher? I'm looking for an Angelus sealant for Walk on Red and Walk on Black.... What could I purchase or use as a sealant?
I got a stupid question, but I'm new to this... Can I use a paint brush to put the acrylic finisher or does it need to by spray?
We get this question a lot. You can use paint brush, airbrush, sponge, clothe. It really doesn't matter as long as you lay down an even/light coat.

Shake it well. You just need a very thin coat. You can alway apply a 1/10 ratio. So literally a drop of duller. Good luck
