Love it!! Love the fact that u built her up without utilizing aftermarket buys!! Gonna try this myself, put myself back to my past!! Brought back memories of the fun I had doing a build with what came in the box without additional buys!! Awesome!! Keep Building My Friend!Jeff
Thank you for the awesome comment! I had fun putting her together. This was my re-build of the ship. I have an older version from years back but with incandescent bulbs and it did not turn out very well. I am pretty much self-taught but have watched other awesome model builders and have adapted their techniques to my ships. You can check out my other builds. Just type in Abbahhh and the list of videos will come up. Thanks again for enjoying it. Good luck with your build and keep modelling on!!!
I watched segments of the show and downloaded pictures of the studio model to get as close to the look of it that I could. Always fun to build and try to make it just like the real one.
Very well done. I would never have the patience to do a build like that.T The only way I could have a ship like the Defiant, or a Enterprise"C" , or "D", would be to buy them already built out from a good builder like yourself, but as I'm disabled and on disability, I just can't afford it, stil, that's a job well done.
I've been watching as many USS Defiant builds as I can find, because I plan to build one soon. I'm just waiting on a 555 timer and fiber optic cable from China. This is one of the best videos I've found. I am concerned you got some of the lighting colors wrong, based on pics and other builds I've seen, but I'll figure it out. Either way, good job.
I hope my video was helpful in giving you ideas on what you want to do with your model. It is all a learning curve and everyone has their own specific way of building. For even more tips go to www.starshipmodeler.com . For the lighting I mainly go to www.superbrightleds.com . You could be apart of an online star trek club or even start one where you are. There are plenty of ST communities on Facebook and Twitter. Even join the official Star trek website.
Impressive work, trying to build a ‘defiant’ like ship on empyrion (video game) so was looking for visuals of the ships shape and features, this did the trick. It’s awesome that you have a beautiful piece to showcase your hard work 😁
If possible should of used a chrome top coat for the inside on top of the light blocking chrome in theory would possibly give a better light effect becuz the reflective of course when it comes to colour led it would need to have sections divided so the reds not bleeding into the blue thanks to the highly reflective coating
incredible build. I'm just getting back into it and sci-fi is my focus. Mainly Star Trek ships. I'm having trouble finding classes or even clubs here in Atlanta, GA. Any recommendations? My first try will be an Amt USS Reliant before refit. 1/650. Thanks.
This is an awesome work you did there. I'm very impressed of how much work and time you put into this fine model. Unfortunately i was led down by the misfits of the model parts so that i lost interest in even finishing the model at all.
Awesome work with the video and the model build. I am currently starting my forth model build with lights which is the Star Trek Defiant. Watching your step by step video inspired my model building to the next level. I do have a few questions with the paint and also the music that you put in your video. Is the purple paint transparent? Also I love the music. Can you tell me the name of the album and artist of the songs? When I build my models, I play a lot of Star Trek and Sci-fi music soundtrack to keep me motivated to the completion of my work. Also, my friend said I should also make a step by step video of my model building work. If you have any suggestions of how I can start that up, I'm all ears. Once again, I thank you for your awesome work!
The purple paint is slightly thinned with paint thinner to let light pass through more easily. I just found the music on other TH-cam channels then altered them slightly with my adobe auditions. My editing is done with Adobe premiere pro. I just download the music into sections and edit them together in premiere pro. You don't need a big flashy camera to do these videos. I just use my cell phone to take pictures of each step I do. Once I complete a step I take a picture and also for more detail I take pictures of how I do that particular step to complete that part of the model. Such as scratch making the impulse engines with the PVC piping. One thing you should do as well is use resistors on the red LEDs. They will burn out without them. And keep them on their own separate line from the other LED's. The whites might need a resistor as well. All you have to do is test the lights and find out which resistor works best. I hope this helps you on your build.
I did it for two reasons. One, It prevents light bleed-through and second, it reflects light throughout the model. helping to light the windows, Warp engines or whatever.
Seeing the finished product Im struck by now much better this defiant looks with the "dress white" exterior than the dirty grey version they used in the actual series. it kinda makes me wonder what the Enterprise D would look like if it had been like if it had been finished the same way the enterprise A had been. Star fleet used to bright and hopeful. Not sure why Picard and discovery have this desire to make everything so Grimdark. Star trek is not star wars.
@@jasonwitcher7335 For making you the model I would charge about $250 Canadian which is about $190 American. Cost is for time, supplies and buying the model unless you have one already to be built.
wow try to make a life size one about the size of a pickup truck see if you can pull it off say if you can it might make it to the world's breaker book I'm just saying if you are that good at this try it just a suggestion bud loved it it was so beautiful bye good luck on your next build.
Did you use any aftermarket parts or do the LED shine through the plastic enough to not need specific clear parts. Im just starting mine and am considering cutting panels out and replacing them with clear plastic, is this needed in your opinion?
If the plastic is thin enough the lighting should work just fine but there are a couple of other options you can do to light it. If you do cut out the section to be lighted make sure you spray the clear part with a dullcoat (about 3 layers) to frost it. Or if the plastic is too thick, cut it out and replace is with a thinner plastic layer of the same color. Try lighting it first before you do any cutting though. Hope this helps.
It does indeed and thank you for your advice. I think i can get away without cutting any plastic out but just wondered if you did or whether you went with lighting it from behind as it is?
Heya! after watching your video, I really want to try building my own defiant model! I sent you an email to the address you the video, when you are able, please reply, thank you!
Would love to learn how to build like this. One of the best looking ships from Star Trek. You done her proud.

This kit I had a lot of problems with the mould
Though little ship.
Yes it is and it was fun to build :)
Makara ... little?
Though?
Bruce Ferguson douche.
Did you use tape to "permanently" attach the LEDs? Aren't you worried it will lose its adhesive over time? What kind of tape is it?
I just used duct tape. Trust me that stuff never looses adhesion. Now a days I glue the lights in place with my glue gun.

Why'd you paint the inside chrome?
