      Thanks, your assessment after some use and comparing the Dell to the best competition assisted me to make up my mind.
      Now for the long wait 😞!
      I was scared the text thing will bother me and only a 4K monitor will offer me the needed sharpness. There is just no 4K OLED 32" screens at this time. Having used a 34" Samsung for work, going for the Alienware AW3423DW should be an easy transition as my personal gaming and entertainment monitor.
      The glossy screen and PPI jump from 96 to 110 should give me the sharpness increase I desire, though not 4K 32" would still be incredible with the perfect HDR, local diming and color accuracy compared to what I am use to.
      Much appreciate this follow up Bijan.
      All the best!

    Finally getting to see more reviewers get hands on with OLED and figure out good ways to convey the stark difference of immediate pixel response times where the only difference is "faster refresh-rate literally equal more better". It's nuts to see the consistency charted out.
    Hoping there will be some improvements to the LG C series as they're imo the most affordable and overall best displays for PC use in the OLED category. Glossy panels for one but just the features combined with panel improvements. Perhaps we'll see a review from you on it? I'd say it's -well worth it- considering you've covered the QD-OLED now.
    The only thing the LG's are missing is faster refresh rates after all.
    Overall, glad to see this from you- OLED is such a game changer and it's really the display tech everyone deserves to play and experience content on for their large-screen experiences. Noticed a cheeky little Scorpius entering atmo as well; o7

      I've got the ASUS M16 RTX 4090 laptop with the 240hz 1,024 zone Mini-LED display with peak 1,100 nit brightness. I absolutely love that display. That being said, the bloom around light/white objects on darker backgrounds is definitely noticeable. In Hunt Showdown the white reticule has a slight glow to it which is not noticeable against light materials like grass, but looks a bit like a dim flashlight when against dark scenes like inside buildings without light on the night maps. You can also easily see it like in the video here in browsers with dark mode.
      Now, it can be reduced mostly entirely if switching to SDR,but the point of having these super bright HDR displays is that eye-searing max brightness, so that is really only an option in work mode while on the desktop.

      @@peergynt6515 I purchased the neo g8 shortly before I commented and as a competitive monitor it definitely has the advantage. You need to really run it in barebones mode (no vrr, local dimming or hdr) for it to be at it's best performance wise where it competes with all the other top esports monitors in terms of response time and input lag and is slightly faster than the alienware, although the alienware does edge it out in terms of response time and motion clarity.

    I have the AW3423DW, and totally agree with this review. I really feel that the QD-OLED is the best technology out there, and the AW3423DW is a truly fantastic gaming monitor that also fares very well as an all-around display, which was important for me working from home (I haven't found color fringing to be an issue, btw).
    I run the AW3423DW in sRGB, 2.4 gamma, 400 True Black for all around use and love it. Resizing windows never dim, unlike my LG C1. The panel is also noticeably brighter than C1 for all around use- I'm on at 55% brightness on the AW3423DW, and I have to go 80% on the C1 to make it even halfway usable for general desktop use. The C1 is very nice in HDR gaming, but the Alienware is simply a step above. Colors have just a bit more pop, the screen gets brighter, the contrast between dark and bright in scenes is incredible.
    In comparison to LCD- I was a fairly late adopter to LCD (I finally switched in 2008) for very specific reasons that I've never loved about LCD panels. First is response time and motion clarity, which for an OG quake player, was very noticeable at first.
    Another thing I never liked about most LCD panels is that they tend to achieve such high contrast largely by turning up the nits. To varying degrees, they always look at least a little blown out to my eyes, just not natural somehow. Also backlight bleed, while just part of the game, is annoying.
    The first time I gamed on my C1, I immediately recognized the difference. Great contrast is achieved not just by nits, but because blacks are black and subtlities in shades of dark colors are better reproduced. However, the C1 is no daily driver, ABL makes it totally unsuitable for desktop use, and a 48" size aggravates this because you have to set the monitor back further, making the brightness issue worse.
    48" is immersive for gaming. However, with the AW3423DW and an Ergotron dual monitor, I have discovered that I can put the monitor pretty close and it nicely fills my field of view.
    The Alienware 34" QD-OLED is quality versus quantity versus my C1. In terms of comparing QD-OLED to any VA or IPS panel, even FALD, the eyeball test is no comparison. To my eye, QD-OLED looks much better, and the motion clarity reminds me what CRT was like- very crisp with no trails or artifacts.
    Finally, I would conclude by stating that more monitors need to have glossy options. It's a massive difference in IQ, colors pop and blacks, and many people have light controlled environments to optimally leverage glossy panels.

    I picked the Samsung purely because I want to be able to use the monitor for a couple of years at least. And OLED just isn't there yet with burnin issues. I'm someone that has my monitor on at all times, and if you have mulitple windows on the white line burns into the screen real fast apparently. Not to mention all the static elements in games etc. The samsung doens't have this issue, near oled black levels, incredible brightness. and the 240 hz is great for if you want to play a game at like 1080p with super high refresh rates/fps
    also I really do not want a ultra wide. It's a nice for the stuff it works with, but largely its unnecessary and most games don't support it. You're better off just getting a second monitor if you want the space.

    Great video. I had narrowed my next display purchase down to a handful of options, and this pretty much seals the deal. I'm kinda surprised that nobody has dropped a true 4k ultrawide on us with at least 120 refresh for gaming. I know it would be expensive, but I hate having to choose between 4k and ultrawide just because I also game. I use a Dell 4k ultrawide at work and it is a total joy to edit in After Effects and Premiere on (or anything with a timeline), but there's no way that's going to work at home when gaming while stuck at 60hz. I'd gladly cough up an extra $500 on a monitor price for those extra pixels.

      @redclaw72666 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      rtings results are a miss they think they know what their doing but they get early units and not retail that's their problem either than that they are biased towards certain brands rtings use a weird methodology that's why I prefer this guy to review monitors since he's a gamer after all and show unbiased stuff always go through different reviewers then make the decision on the purchase obviously QD OLED wins miles ahead than Samsungs mini led which they failed to launch they should've launched OLED monitors but a flop

    I got the Samsung g8 during prime day, it was a great price, 1k, no worry about burn in, i didn’t have any qc problems at all, no scan lines at 240hz… i had the same choice between these two, and i picked the Samsung because viewing videos i get the entire screen vs the cutoff sides on the Alienware. I don’t game most of the time, i am productivity 90% of the time, so burn in was a huge concern for me

    • @sleepssL

      How is the blooming on it? On dark screens with local dimming enabled, is it noticeable? That's really my only worry about the G8, everything else looks great. Thanks

    • @himalayapatel2052
      @himalayapatel2052 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sleepssL this is the only problem i have with the monitor. Other than this it’s perfect. There’s a setting to switch it the local dimming from auto to high or off. By default the setting is on auto which makes the brightness ok. Not as bright as I’d like it to be with the curtains open. No blooming unless you look at the screen at an angle. Once you switch it to high, the screen gets extremely bright but the blooming is really bad imo. Other people online are fine with it but not me. It annoys me. I switched it back to auto and closed the curtains

      @himalayapatel2052 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sleepssL i use dark mode for all my apps by the way so that accounts for why i can’t keep the dimming on high. I’d suggest getting lights to put against your wall behind your desk to light up your room. That will ensure your room is still well lit and the monitor still seems bright on auto

      @@himalayapatel2052 Thanks for the response. Your suggestion of putting lights behind my desk is a good idea. I have a 1440p ultrawide myself. And I really don't like its bad pixel density (109ppi). With the Alienware it's the same (also 21:9 1440p panel). I hope that we will see 4k ultrawides in the near future like the upcoming samsung g9 with it's 8k horizontally resolution.

    I did several years with an ultrawide and while they're nice there were enough small annoyances with them (some games not supporting 21:9, some content being letterboxed to 21:9 assuming a 16:9 display giving black bars on all sides (RDR2, looking at you) and a few other minor things) that I decided to go back to a traditional aspect ratio this time. Found a 42" C2 OLED on sale and I don't know how I'd ever go back to LCD for my primary display and the OLED/TV "annoyances" haven't really bothered me at all. I can't wait to see more OLED form factors hitting the market. This is a great look at these monitors, I'd have loved to see an LG OLED thrown in there too, especially now that the 42" size makes them more manageable than ever (though still large).

    If you wanna play sweaty in valorant or csgo, is the AW3423DW a good/better option compared to say, XL2546K or XV252QF? I understand this monitor is not solely aimed toward competitive FPS of course, but I would have loved to hear (more of) your opinion on its use for comp FPS.

    • @pk.002
      @pk.002 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I played Valorant and CSGO on mine and it's an amazing option. Don't let the slower refresh rate fool you. The crispness of the display and immediate response times are great for comp shooters. I do like the XV252QF but you're not going to have those same response times and crispness even with that 390hz refresh rate. IPS just can't compare. I came from an AW2721DW, however, which I also really liked and it remains my favorite 240hz IPS panel.
