    CLIP DESCRIPTION:
An Iowa corn farmer (Kevin Costner) hears voices and interprets them as a command to build a baseball diamond in his fields. When he does, the Chicago "Black Sox" come back to play.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
"If you build it, he will come." That's the ethereal message that inspires Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner) to construct a baseball diamond in the middle of his cornfield. At first, "he" seems to be the ghost of disgraced ballplayer Shoeless Joe Jackson (Ray Liotta), who materializes on the ballfield and plays a few games with the awestruck Ray. But as the weeks go by, Ray receives several other messages from a disembodied voice, one of which is "Ease his pain." He realizes that his ballfield has been divinely ordained to give a second chance to people who have sacrificed certain valuable aspects of their lives. One of these folks is Salingeresque writer Terence Mann (James Earl Jones), whom Ray kidnaps and takes to a ball game and then to his farm. Another is Doc Graham (Burt Lancaster), a beloved general practitioner who gave up a burgeoning baseball career in favor of medicine. The final "second-chancer" turns out to be much closer to Ray. That "magical" field in Dyersville, Iowa still draws thousands of baseball-happy tourists each year.

I watch this movie I don't know how many times every month. It's what got me into baseball. The game they had last summer made me invested in baseball. I dearly love and revere this movie and it has a special place in my family's heart. My dad and I got matching Anderson White Sox jerseys based off of the ones from the game for Christmas and I got my dad his own glove. He hadn't owned his own glove since he was a kid. We went outside in our jerseys (unfortunately it was a warm Christmas in NC) and played catch. When he caught the first throw from me, I couldn't help but notice him pause. He and I had watched the movie together a few weeks before and it got him thinking about his own dad. This October, we're gonna go see the Field for ourselves and I can't wait to have a catch with my dad on the Field of Dreams!

This was a very special movie, a movie about dreams, a second chance.
Ray’s dream was to reconcile with his father and play catch again with him.
Ray’s father John’s dream was to be a star baseball player.
Terrence Mann’s dream was to write a story that people would love.
Moonlight Graham’s dream was to get a turn at bat.
Shoeless joe Jackson and his teammates the Black Sox’s dream was to have a chance to play again.
In the end, Ray gets his dream, by reconciling with his dad and plays catch with him again.
John gets his dream, by playing catcher with professional baseball players.
Terrence gets his dream, by being invited into the cornfield to get his story he always wanted.
Moonlight gets his dream, by having a turn at bat.
Shoeless joe and the Black Sox got their dream, by playing baseball again.
    Such a great movie.

This is probably my favorite baseball movie. You don't have to be a baseball fan to love this movie, though it helps a little, my late wife didn't like baseball but loved this movie anyway. It's more then about baseball, obviously it's above dreams fulfilled. What son wouldn't want to play catch with their father who happens to come back and is younger then you? What baseball fan wouldn't love to watch ballplayers come back from the early days of the 20th century to play on their baseball diamond? There are many great baseball films, but this film touches both baseball fans and non baseball fans, that's why this is the greatest baseball film of all time. The ending always gets to always to me.

I once told in a group discussion that I believe in magic. There were some who found it funny, but the laughs were on them. That's because after a little while that same 2023 year, to my surprise I met Birute Mar, a great Lithuanian actress, director and just a wonderful person, whose play ''Silk'' by my favourite author's Alessandro Barrico book, I saw 15 years earlier. It was the first play I attended in The National Lithanian Theater, and it forever became my most memorable. Like the book it truly touched my heart and soul, and made me cry. What an honour was to meet her. Watching this trailer I always remember that day and thus cry tears of joy.

I was just watching the movie last night. Felt like a perfect way to end the 4th of July weekend. Ray was the heart of the story. But Terrence stole the show. If only Michael Clarke Duncan was still alive, I would like to see him take on a role as beautiful as James Earl Jones with a speech empowering as Terrence’s climatic monologue. The first time I saw this movie was as a 20 year old on HBO in the summer of 2013. I’m 27 now and I wish baseball was going on right now.

"This American Life" brought me here. A story about how the novel "Trout Fishing in America" by Richard Brautigan inspired Todd Lockwood to build a 'truly public library'. After seeing this movie, Lockwood walks out of the theater determined to build the library. The library, for people to submit transcripts rather than check them out, would be open 24 hours, with only one librarian. Years later, on the first day of the opening the library, he is visited by Bill Kinsella. Bill, it turned out, was influenced by TFIA to write the book "Shoeless Joe" (originally titled Dream Field), which became the screenplay for "Field of Dreams".

Several centuries from now this will be the only reason anyone remembers the name Kevin Costner. He was lucky to be attached to this mystical piece, yet did a good job in the process.

Looking into more about the Mandela affect brought me here. People remember it saying if you build it THEY will come. In the movie it says if you build it HE will come.
The way I remember it is when he heard the voice at first it said if you build it they will come and then later when he hears the voice again then it says if you build it he will come.
Anyways it is a great movie and if you haven't ever seen it or it has been a long time since you seen it like in my case I suggest doing like I'm going to do and watch it.

Jeff Cook I have to watch the movie again but I think the reason it’s remember that way is because of the conversation he has with his daughter and her uncle...she said that people from all over will come to watch the game...then at the end of the movie when his dad shows up then shoeless says: “if you build it, he will come”

We are Living Stones built up into a Temple. What others seek to build with stones, taken from the ground, the Third Temple, is US. Emanuel. And that, is what I think this movie is about.
