Awhile ago a turbine helicopter crashed, rolled on its side, smashed the rotors off. The sound of turbine hitting the turbine case was fantastic. This high pitched scream then getting deeper as it slowed was excellent! No one was killed or seriously injured.
Doubt there are any John Deere parts on this thing. But yeah they are notorious for forcing farmers to repair at the OEM plant. Some states have passed "Right to repair" laws to counter that practice. John Deere is fighting those laws all the way to the supreme court.
@@Novusod as if the John Deere corporation doesn’t have enough money. These poor farmers pay God knows how much money for one of their tractors, and they still try and rape their pockets afterwards
Damn! Little more than just "throwing a leg out of bed"! This happens from time to time with super high horsepower diesels. Block can't handle the cylinder pressure anymore and compression & combustion cracks the block above the mains and throws itself out of the hood!
Gracious Lord! When the engine failed it was raining pistons! I feel so sorry for the owner, they pay so much in blood and hours and treasure to entertain us. To have all that smashed to rubble is awful. I’m so glad the driver is ok, a bad moment for him.
Seriously though, why does tractor pulling have the most weak as piss responses to fires and the like, if it is not 1 kg hand held extinguishers it is 9 litre buckets of water, blows my mind some of the responses and the lack of appropriate gear
Because diesel doesn't burn as easy. Not to mention, the small cans are hand helds. They have larger ones for bigger fires. They just don't use them, because half the time its always a diesel engine. Not a gasser.
@@fred5477 He most likely will have to haul it back to the manufacturing plant. AND most likely the software for it is already out of date too. So best just to buy a new one. They just don't build them to last any more.
I am from Indiana. Why does everyone seem so surprised when an engine lets loose at a tractor pull? What would be surprising if a horse team exploded during a horse pull at the state fair.
Yes, and THOSE pistons are almost the size of a 55 gallon drum!! Scary. I'm a railfan, and have heard horror stories of train crew members being killed due to thrown rods and engine explosions, especially on the old F-units, where you had to literally walk beside the engine to get to the rear of the locomotive. GEs are notorious for catching on fire. And a grade crossing collision is any engineer's WORST nightmare!!
It amazes me that all they have on hand are little can emergency fire extinguishers. It worked, but still. Where are the normal type of fire extinguishers? Where is the track Safety\Fire crew?
tractor pulling is the coolest shit in the world, i remember wearing earplugs at the fair when i was like four and watching this huge ass tractor shoot fire and it was probably the coolest thing i’d ever witnessed at the time
with a really good set of headphones you can here 3 vary distinct pops during the pull before it lets go. i would say it was eating a valve or the top of a piston was coming apart/ melting.
The pops are the block breaking above the crankshaft main bearings. The high turbo boost pressures eventually cause the block to break and lift right up off the pistons. There is a minimum 3/8 inch thick cable running around the engine block and oil pan between cylinders two and three to make a block explosion tilt the block forward away from the operator. Otherwise the block can go straight up and the forward momentum of the tractor and sled will put the operator right under the block when it comes back down.
I love this sport so much because you can feel good about seeing the s*** hit the fan whereas in other sports you go to see the crack ups but people die and you feel sad.
A bit LESS boost next time maybe? Honestly guys. What the hell were they thinking with those dumb fire extinguishers. It looks like a bunch of guys taking a leak on an oil-well fire to put it out.
Drivers are required to wear full fire suits, and helmets on the higher power vehicles like this one. Though, sometimes they come off the line with their helmet visor up, sometimes they forget to flip it down.
I worked on heavy trucks for years with some guys that were pretty good mechanics. But, I have never seen anyone disassemble an engine that fast in my life. "Uh, I think we had it a little rich there bub"
It would seem that some blower blankets are needed over the whole engine. It appeared to have a cable over it. Some of that schrapnel was quite large And a better firewall for the driver as well. Either that or limit the boost with a mandated blow off valve. Say 30lb. And even then they will blow, just not as often or as huge.

they should just get some fire extinguishers full stop.

Buy 1 that’s older & easier to fix, JD is not the only 1, go around
Such a ridiculously good view of this! Glad all was ok on and off the track as far as injuries are concerned.
There is easier ways to remove an engine but I don't think there's a faster way
Too right. I bet he was clenched when that happened and thinking Damn I scratched the paintwork!!!!

The engines are not designed for that kind of power.

Wow that tractor 🚜 really living up to the name. Hammered.
The piston head flying doing 360s like 9 times is the most impressive to me
That bug spray sure knocked that fire back!
Amazing video! Good quality, in focus, no flinch, good sound and the subject, man, that hurt my wallet and I’m just watching. 👍
Boy that sounded real expensive at the very end them piston rods slapping around everywhere 😬ouch!! There went 50 k
Probably a lot more than that. Probably closer to 60-80,000
Crank alone is around 15 grand
I bet the crank is still good. 😂
I've never seen an engine go in such of violent, gory display of horsepower
That’s at least a 100k banana split we are pushing our equipment beyond its limits even billit blocks are splitting like this

Hey,Leroy(mechanic) think we need to back the boost off some!!!

Those extinguishers are perfect for when one piece of bread in the toaster catches on fire in the kitchen.
FANTASTIC VIDEO, but terribly unprepared track crew, no extinguishers or protection, ridiculous!!!
