Funny, for sure.... but the Sled Pullers are No Where even remotely close to the budget of T/F & F/C teams (or, even Pro Stock, for that matter) in Drag Racing... here, in 2023... If you're running on Anything Less than a 13M to 14M dollar "budget"... you're not even in the program to be competitive. Not saying you can't run... just saying that you'll be hard pressed to keep up with the "big teams".
It was a sad day (1970's) when Corporate Sponsorships were allowed into the upper ranks of NHRA Drag Racing by Wally and his chronies... nearly instantly, the days of 120+ T/Fer's (AA/FD back then) showing up to qualify, came to an abrupt halt.
The engine used in Dragon Fire is mechanical insanity, brute force and beauty all combined in one giant musical masterpiece

The Zvedzda M503 is a diesel engine I would like to see a Pratt & Whitney R-4360 gas engine making the same HP on 28 cylinders.

my guess about those levers on the black widow is that they actually start the 4 front engines of the top rear engine using it as a pony motor
As for the lever it's engaging the clutch to start it, not assisting. They usually use just 2 starters on 1 front bank go to 1/4 throttle and wack the clutch. Spinning the other 3 engines it's kinda ingenious it saves about 100lbs in starters.
Yeah, because when you've got five V8s producing 12,000hp, every bit of weight you can save will make a difference.......
When your tractor will just barely make weight and you want to make movable weight yes you'll change a few things. I believe those USA bread Unlimited Modifieds are weighted to 9800 lbs total.

Why not just a moderately sized tire and axle set up that would still have 10 times the strength ? No money left? It's ALWAYS the monster with 5-6 engines sitting on top of these wal Mart shopping cart caster.
Get round to thinking that rather than IC s., steam would be the way to go., a good non stallable steam engine would get a few more yards...

There is a Case 150 that will pull the sled out of the arena! There is a video of a smaller 90 or 110 pulling a sled that pulled all the way to the end of the track.

The Rolls Royce 12 cylinder engines were the go-to for Unlimited Hydroplanes, otherwise known as "Thunderboats". They were awesome to behold.
Then they screwed the pooch with turbines, so now the boats just scream like little girls.
The Allison aircraft v12 was another favorite.

These are high compression engines and methanol has a very high octane rating - so no problem with detonation.
@@Hogger280 Also runs incredibly cold so no need for cooling for engines.
@@rogerbichanicz9420 Methanol cools the intake charge increasing the density and increasing power but it does not eliminate the need for cooling; however, cooling systems are often not used on quarter milers because they don't run long enough.
@@Hogger280 Thats very true.We ran methanol on our tractor pullers and you are right,short runs no problem with cooling.It can freeze up the butterflies if you are unlucky and make them stick a bit.The Indy cars when running on methanol of course had cooling systems for longer runs.
