Ladies just go grey....as I am. I had stage 4 cancer at 58 in may 2011. I lost all my hair by chemo and as my hair grew back I vowed to never put anything harsh including dyes or bleach. Now thirteen years later still in remission and doing well with 30% grey and brown. I have let my hair grow the last three years and it is a long length and loving it as well as the grey. I am aging gracefully and keeping fit as well. I am glad I am as old as I am because in the midst of recovering from cancer I accepted Christ the best gift I ever received. AMEN
I have had my hair dyed since I was in my twenties ,both semi permanent and permanent dyes. For the last 20 years my hair would be dyed every 4 weeks. I am now 81 .
I stop color my hair mainly because i appreciate what mother nature gives me. Aging is not ugly and should be proud of. It is a blessing that i still have hair, rather than bald. Today, i got compliments on my silver hair and i am free of chemical. I use that money for better skin care, gym and organic foods.
I.was a professional hairdresser, but gave it ip when i had my babies . I believe that using peroxide on the scalp causes cancer , i have noticed that certain woman have died from breast cancer and they regularly bleached their hair, my aunt was one of those ladies . I am in my 62nd year and i have never put any kind of chemical on my scalp but i still have beautiful long brunette hair . When i need to start using something more permanent i will use a protective highlighting cap .
I ditched hair dye in my late 50’s and aside of the health benefits I feel liberated and people always compliment my new look. Dr. Amy, I’m confused…I recently had ER positive Stage 1A invasive breast cancer. So far, 1 year free and started taking Tamoxifen after lumpectomy, sentinel node removal and radiation. When cancer is hormone related, doesn’t sugar, hair dyes, etc., not matter? I think mine was caused from grieving the loss of my mother (4 years ago) over anything else. There is no history of breast cancer or any cancers in my family. I don’t smoke or drink alcohol. Love your channel!
My mom also has stage 2a cancer. I also think the death of her sister during pandemic was also a trigger for her, plus maybe other factors. She also has no history of cancers in her family.
My mom dyed her hair with permanent hair color, black or dark brown. This was back in the 70s and 80s. She died of a very aggressive brain tumor at 57 years old. I was always convinced it was the hair dye that caused the tumor.
I never used hair dye until my late 50' s. After about 10 years I decided to quit. I use henna now which is less than perfect but I just am trying to reduce my toxic load overall.
My mom's natural hair is light brown. Most of her life she used Blonde, cheap, smelly home-hair dye every 3 weeks. She is 91, healthy and never had cancer. Go figure?!
I would say any chemical substance you put in contact with your skin can have a potential to cause blood cancers. Unfortunately it is very difficult to isolate anything because outside of hairdye these people can be exposed to anything else that can cause cancer like GMO, living closer to power lines, chemicals in water, pesticides....
I have NEVER dyed my hair. Saved lots of money and better for my health. Happy with my grey and white hair. Natural and healthy and happy shiny hair. Just fabulous!!!!!
I started coloring when I was 24 now in my late 40’s. My dad never colored but he has cancer. It’s also genetical which if you dye or not , there’s a chance you might get it
Thank goodness that they make hair dye that is free of toxins. Commercial dyes in salons and also nail salons should have greater oversight. I think they should have higher standards in terms of ventilation for those who work in salons just like laboratories. I just embraced my gray hair and I really like it. It’s less hassle and healthier. I don’t use these products because I have a lot of cancer in my family.
A lot of things we use on daily basis cause cancer, for example air freshener.😢 Air fresheners emit over 100 chemicals, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes - some of which are associated with different types of cancer in high doses.🫣
Johnson & Johnson’s baby powder has been linked to multiple cancers due to traces of asbestos, a cancer-causing mineral, being found in the talcum (talc) powder used as the base ingredient in Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder.
💯 will not live in fear and grey doesn't look good on most people. It has become a trend since some celebs started it. I see women in early 40s going grey

I have dark hair and lots of gray. So if I don't dye my hair, I don't look tidy. I have to dye my hair every month (altought my roots are seen even before). I picked hair salon that uses organic hair colour, but I saw the ingredients, it is not completley chemical free. Do you think I am at risk? 6 months ago I was diagnosed with stage1 hormonal bc.
Yes, there are hair dyes with natural ingredients incoming ammonia and peroxide-free. So I would go with those if you choose to color your hair (like I do). However, all hair dyes must contain at least some chemicals which are needed to break through the hair shaft and deposit the color.
Years ago I used a darker hair dye a couple times because I didn’t feel like spending all the money to have my hair highlighted and then my girl would put a little bit of dark into. It was beautiful, but I’m too lazy. I’m just too much of a hippie I’m too busy. Ha ha, I found a semi permanent little tiny tube sometimes I’ll let it go a little bit but if I just squirt about a good 2 - 50 Cent piece size and just massage it a little bit on my roots and then kind of drag it down my hair maybe a little more than that it washes out in a day but I don’t wash my hair every day anymore. For a while I was letting my gray come in but it just I am very olive skin it, just I kinda liked it and then I kinda didn’t and I thought well I can just use this it’s inexpensive like I said I use such a tiny amount every week week and so I just chalk it up as I have kinky but fine now fine Odd hair with light blonde brown gray.. But for me the small amounts that I use literally mostly we’re on the top of my head a little bit because I see women in my age so much they dunk their head in dark hair dye or reddish dark hair dye and in a second it’s you can see that scalp line I don’t do that I don’t like that word there’s That line probably even if they died their hair two days before cause. Maybe they miss some spots. I just kind of do a tiny bit and drag it down and I’m now more of a dark blonde and I look pretty natural or you see women in the sunlight and you see this weird red orange tinge on the top of their head and less on the bottom of their head stuff like that but I’ve just been kind of lazy. I think it was since Covid but never been the greatest one to go get tons of haircuts grown up I mean I don’t think I had my first real haircut till I was in Seventh eighth grade Dodgers same way you know I cut their hair and then I started doing their hair when they were in high school and whatever the brand was I can’t remember what it was but it was it never wrecked anyone’s hair on myself and my two daughters a few times I did it it was beautiful, but then what happened after that time the larger chunks were coming in where one of the big chunks and I said well that’s not is natural looking but if you wanna go spend your money on that go ahead my hairstyles stylus was very much more conservative the way she did haircuts the couple of times my daughters had their hair colored you know streaks frost whatever called it back then we come from the old school where you’re kind of lucky if you get your hair color and why should you because you know the young kids are beautiful the way they are but yeah they all want to try something and then later on when they become you know over a certain age, they can go out and put pink and orange and purple whatever they want But I like being a little bit conservative in that but you know I’m glad you did this. When a cancer is hormonal, other factors still matter. Yes the hormonal aspect is important but inflammation and insulin response still matters
