Samsung S23 vs S24 Exynos vs S24 Snapdragon Battery Drain Test

  • Can the S24 Exynos 2400 last longer than the S24 Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2? The odds are not in S24 Global's favor, but I ran a thorough test to be sure!
In this test, I compared the S24 Exynos to the S24 Snapdragon and included the S23 to have a full picture.
The test includes 5G, 4G/LTE, Wi-Fi, and airplane modes. I excluded all benchmarking and gaming from this one.

Some of you asked for a light performance mode comparison. I decided to publish a video including that analysis without monetizing the video. You can find it here:
    th-cam.com/video/wc0Vpv1N5-s/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=TechmoRAW
One interesting finding is that in S24 Snapdragon there is no option in light performance mode to disconnect 5G but there is in S24 Exynos.

S24 Exynos is not that bad but Samsung charging its customers for the same price of their subpar chipset to the superior chipset is a crime.

Same price? It's literally €50 cheaper in Exynos markets than last year's models with SD. Comparatively, the S24 with Snapdragon is the same price in the US as last year's S23.

Thanks for an useful comment and not bashing Exynos for everything. The test was greatly done but this TH-camrs community exists of mostly butthurt people bashing Exynos for like everything what went wrong with their lives. I agree with you that the Exynos version should be cheaper. Anyhow I am impressed how well Samsung caught up. The 5G modem and the cooling need to be improved for future versions but they are clearly on a good way.

And now they're putting almost the same chip from the A54 in the A55 bro, only a bit overclocked than the previous A54. From Exynos 1380 to 1480. With the same architecture config, 2xA78 and 6xA55. I was hoping they would put something like a Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 or Dimensity 8100/8300 Ultra there or something but nope. It's always the poopy Epoopnos bro. Guess gotta wait for the A35 specs leak and see if they would put in the same Exynos. The only good upgrade they did this year was only applied to their lower A05 and A15 series where it finally gotten better in performance and optimization thanks to them using a MediaTek processor.

I felt a bit sad that your research integrity was being questioned but I have really admired how you have developed your video response to it all!
Excellent comparison! Very thorough tests. Nothing on TH-cam will come close to this.
This test is definitive, SD is a clear winner, even in the s23!! Samsung seriously needs to rethink their decisions, like you said, if they could just incorporate Qualcomm modems this might just make it viable product. But until then I think it's pretty unfair to be the beta testers for their engineering team.

You are the only TH-camr who is testing phones as real world usage is going to be....thankyou so much for your efforts in testing the phones in this way, this proves that an average user may get excited with the AI wave(which he/she) may not even use those features(which are anyway look half baked & may improve in the coming years) but would just go for the newer model just based on the pshycological influence "always go for the latest" . At this point of time it is best to go for S23 as it is cheaper than the price it was launched last year & it has been refined with lot of software updates. Thankyou once again Mo, for such unique way of testing 🙏🏼

I saw the last video and then came here to watch this one and decided to leave a comment commending you on your comprehensive S23-24 comparisons.
I had been looking for these exact comparisons of the new Exynos and Snapdragon chipsets in the S24s and couldn't find them anywhere on YT; so, I'm glad that the first of their comparisons I finally came across was such comprehensive ones, too.
Liked the videos and subbed to the channel. On a side note, for someone of your educational background, being through and technical in your videos should be more important than hyping the new devices of big corporations in order to get their sponsorships. There're already plenty of those channels that are doing the uncritical reviews/comparisons. So, continue the great work and while your channel grows, let your body of work speak for its critical, technical, and comprehensive reviews/comparisons.

Agree with your sentiment: The fact that S24 units are with Exynos chips rather than SD SHOULD be grounds for it to be marketed as a completely different phone with different pricing because clearly they don't provide the same performance nor experience. The fact that it runs hotter DEFINITELY matters for the longevity of the device, particularly in the likes of tropical or consistently hot climates that aggravate its effects on internal components.
As someone who bought the S23 last year the moment I found out it will come with a SD Gen 2 across the board, I'm so glad to have dodged this pretty scummy move back to Exynos.

I wonder if the problem is the 5G modem inside the Exynos AP. I think it's one of the first Exynos chips that integrates a 5G modem instead of using a separate module. Is there any difference in using 4G instead of 5G networks? I'm noticing increased battery usage (probably temp as well) on 5G (expected, though). As a result I've limited the phone to 4G connections, as I don't really need 5G speeds (not that regular 5G is much better than a good 4G connection) when I'm out. I should p😢robably mention that I don't play games / latency is not a concern for me.
L.E.: reached the end of the video; looks like 4G vs 5G does make a noticeable difference.
I think Samsung would've used Exynos worldwide if not for Qualcomm patents. Qualcomm chips are quite expensive and I'm sure Samsung would love to reduce costs while claiming their chips are equivalent. They are not that awful, but for sure they are not the same.

    • @adi4motion2

I am "happy" with the S24 (exynos), of course I would've loved the SD version 😅, but I would not buy the S23 over it. There are other (subtle) differences: newer (better?) screen, a bit faster fingerprint scanner, flat edges, smaller bezels. I'm also a very light user, I care mostly about UX and battery life and while the later is not on SD level, it nowhere near bad.
Now, if you're a heavy user (gamer), the picture changes a lot.
Anyways, what Samsung is doing does not sit right with me and we can/should vote with our wallets. That's the only way to make a company listen.

@@user-tl8vz9wh5t agreed. But it's not like there's much of a choice. I would gladely choose SD over Exynos, unfortunatelly I live in EU, so I can't make that choice. The other problem is that I don't like "plus sized" phones, and most OEMs make only 6.7+" phones; so I'm stuck with Samsung, Apple or Asus Zenfone. I'm not a fan of plastic phones, so Zenfone is out. I was also a iPhone user for the last 5 yrs, and while arguably good phone, I've grown to hate some of Apple's practices more that before switching to them... nobody makes a "compact" (yeah, 6.2" is compact now 😅) flagship anymore.
