    First rule of throwing putters on your drive is to loudly announce "I'm going to throw a putter" so everyone knows what a big deal you are.

    Thanks Danny! It's nice to hear a knowledgable voice acknowledge that putters are the hardest disc to throw with power because of how touchy they are.
    Usually as we hear is "dont touch a driver until you can throw a putter 300 ft," a skill that isnt realistic or fun to develop for a casual am

    This video is my jam. Ive been playing about a year now. I only play heavily wooded courses. I only throw putters now. I can throw them almost as far as my drivers and midranges, with a lot more accuracy. I have found that my putters are much more reliable than anything else in my bag. My advice, go find a local course that is not super long I.E. the majority of the holes around 300 ft. and just play with putters and mid ranges. Leave the drivers and fairways at home. After a few rounds, at least in my experience, that a putter 9/10 times is the shot of choice. Eventually you will stop throwing the mid range and go to the putter because it is much easier to manipulate. Also, there is a big difference between a throwing putter and a putting putter. Keep them separate and only throw putters in the premium plastic.

    • @JimmyPetersen
      @JimmyPetersen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      IIRC the more spin you put on your disc, the faster it will turn due to gyroscopic precession. This intensifies with the amount of lift the disc generates - meaning understable discs will turn faster since they are more aerodynamic and generate more lift. When going for distance, you want your ever so slightly understable disc to turn ever so slightly for most of the flight until the amount of lift decreases (due to decreasing disc speed) to a point where the fading takes over - Fading is gyroscopic precession applied to the underside of the front of the disc and makes the disc turn in the opposite direction of what we normally call "turn".
      At least that's my current understanding of how it all works but I could completely off course here :-)
      Cheers!

  • @deepsender

    Hi Danny, you call this a beginner's guide, but throwing a putter off a tee is not a beginner's shot at all. It's a highly technical shot when needed by a very skilled player.

    • @IlariVallivaara
      @IlariVallivaara 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, usually with distance you will gain the consistency for the shorter throws. If you can reach 400 feet, it is much easier to power down and be consistent at 200 feet throws.

    • @DannyLindahl
      @DannyLindahl 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm a believer that better form gets better distance AND consistency. Getting more consistent with worst form isn't a thing. And time spent trying to get that consistency is likely better spent improving form and consistency will come as form improves. But that's me, there are plenty of people who will disagree with me.

    • @samhowl1152
      @samhowl1152 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DannyLindahl yeah, but the real issue is I don't think anyone has a 100 percent grip on the biomechanics. Bradley Walker advocates a purposeful knee drop with the rear side to add power. Richard Hatton says the knee drop isn't on purpose and is a result of the with shifting to the lead side. Who's right? There's no consensus and that's the problem.
      I do wonder Danny, from a standstill throw,I load into the rear side and then come into the lead side. In a standstill throw is there any kind of push off the rear leg , if so when?

      I myself can max out my putters at about 300 feet, and my drivers at about 400. Both with the power grip, but putters aimed a little higher. My advice would be practice, practice and practice - maybe doing some putter-only rounds, for example. And getting some provably far-flying putters (Proxy and Envy for me).
