I would love to see a video where you talk about what methods you used to develop your form (simply going of feel noticing what feels best and trying to recreate that, fieldwork, watching others play or film of others form, filming yourself and cratiquing form braised off that, ect...) And also how that has changed now or if it hasn't (basically if you have gotten to a form that you are comfortable with and feel like it's more maintenance or not). I really appreciate that your videos are very straightforward, you chose a topic and go super in depth on that not trying to tell people how to play or what they should do. Simply sharing your considerable knowledge and letting people learn what they will, keep it up man!
Your ability to easily break down some of the more touchy subjects of grip is great! I'm working on developing a sidearm that can work for me and I'm excited to try out some of what I've seen!
Thnaks for doing this, your videos help a ton. Also awesome to get tips from someone you enjoy watching on coverage, it's a special previlege to be able to connect those two things as an interested amateur.
Definitely a great video for beginners!! Saving this to rewatch for reminders and lessons! I personally love the tomahawk and use it whenever I get the chance to lol
Could you do a video talking more specifically about where you are putting pressure on the driver when you throw back hand? You get so much spin and I feel the way you grip/ put pressure on the disc may have a lot to do with that! Love the content and your way of teaching!
Big fan! Can you make a video on what the first "move" is on a power back hand? So when I reach back am I throwing my hips, shoulder retraction, or just pull from the elbow into the power pocket? I feel like I have decent footwork and hit, finishing the throw hard but starting the throw/pull is my concern. I feel like i could be getting more momentum into the hit. Or maybe its not that important at all, like calvin heimburg seems to get all his power in the hit. Thanks a bunch.
It's from the bottom up but when you do you it feels almost all at the same time. Watch yourself and pro in slomo and you'll see what I mean. It's still bottom up but very close together
i would like to see you talk about how you line up your shots for laser straight technical shots? i would also like to understand how you get the full reach back and stay accurate i seem to lose accuracy when fully reaching back? also would love to see how you line up and execute you long puts you do so well!?
Gannon's awesome. Finally met him at Green Mountain. I'm starting to realize how unusual my grips are. I use a three-finger power grip for backhand with my pinky off. And I use a two-finger stack grip for my sidearm but I don't curl my other two fingers- I keep them straight out on the outside of the disc.
Good video! I'm doing a lot of work on my backhand and forehand grip so this is very useful! It would be very interesting to see a slowmotion clip on the underside of the disc when you throw different types of disc.
While it's a variation of the power grip I actually 3 finger almost all my back hands. I was told by a couple people when throwing a buzzz to try 3 finger and it's just translated very well into all my discs
Thanks for the vid! I was wondering if you try to pinch between your thumb and pointer in your power grip? I have a smaller hand and have been experimenting with pinching on the plate, just off the rim (tip of index finger not on the rim but hanging over and touching the plate), and seem to be getting more spin and the same or more distance without extra effort.
If you have a chance to come to see Western PA, Mahaney (9 in the pines) is one of the hardest and interesting courses for the region without water. Come see it.
Hey Gannon. Congrats on DGLO. Just watched coverage and it was a satisfying win. I came here looking for a sort of complicated answer to something I can't quite figure out. I want to release my discs with spin so I can control the flight of my discs on lower speeds. Say I usually throw my Buzzz with a power grip and it just holds a line, but if I want to slow down my arm speed I just griplock when throwing since the disc rips out later due to lower arm speed. Do you just hold the grip looser, or do you go to a fan grip to allow the disc to rip out on slower arm speed?
What about grip pressure? How hard are your squeezing it on a back hand? Is the grip loose until the hit? Is the grip tight the whole time? When you're gripping the disc, again backhand, where do you feel the pressure in your grip?
Gannon, maybe you can talk about how you focus and worked on the hit as some people talk about in their videos. Or if this is even something you worked on in the past.
Hey Gannon, noob here…when you throw, do you grip your hand tight through the whole throw, like clench it hard as soon as you start the motion, whether it be x step or stand still, or do you sort of keep it loose and only clench the grip at the last second? Still trying to figure out the right feeling to have… love watching you throw ✊
I've been struggling with my putting grip lately. Found that naturally, I change my grip when I reach back/down before swinging, which seems to add a lot of inconsistency. However if I don't change my grip I have to start out with my fingers bent really far back to get enough spin. Anyone else having issues like that? Is it normal to change where you grip the disc during a putting stroke?
I do the same thing, like it slips forward in my fingers just a touch and I'm pretty sure it's just so I can get a better spin on the disc. I've tried adjusting the resting grip but that didn't help me. I just switched to straddle putting and I haven't done that once now and it's way more comfortable to me.
Grenades are one of the few throw styles where building up a callus is ideal. I do the opposite of the KJ grip, I lock my thumb in to the rim with my pointer finger cause I had it wrong when I first started throwing them.. Now that I have a callus built up on my thumb I can get a pretty consistent 200-250' depending on how high I need to go
How are you! Sorry to bother you, but I'm interested in knowing where you got those shorts? I'm looking for them and can't find them. I want to know without the desire to offend if you would sell them? They really interest me. Hoping not to bother you, I'm left with an answer. Thank you so much! Excellent content!
There are several videos out on there on grip (some of cover stuff that Gannon hasn't mentioned), check out OverThrowDG, Paul Ulibarri and Dynamic Discs.
Fan grip is for nose up? Drew Gibson throws a modified fan grip on 90% of his throws. Power grip doesn’t keep the nose down. Love you kid but a lot of misleading info here. Take this with a grain of salt people.
Think you misunderstood what he actually meant. He is not saying if youre using a fan grip, every shot you will ever throw will be nose up. He is just pointing out that it might be easier to throw nose up with a fan grip.
No show a fan grip shot where you don't have the nose up. Because what you said was it makes the disc nose up, but that's not true. Human anatomy says that I can straighten and curl my fingers as much as I want with my wrist bent or straight. So you are dead wrong, a fan grip doesn't make the disc nose up, the nose up comes from your inability to understand the physics behind the grip, even though your making a video on grip physics. Maybe you should leave the coaching to the coaches and the people like simon, eagle, uli and the people that understand what they are talking about. Knowing how to get something to do what you want, knowing how to get it to do that, and knowing how the physics effects it are all different things. And you know how to get the disc to do what you want, but you've already shown in less than a minute you don't know how you do it, therefore you're not gonna understand the physics which means you shouldn't try coaching. I know I get it, if you don't make content you won't get enough subscribers to make money. You can do other videos besides coaching
You’re corny for this. This is a teenager that you’re hating on from a comment section. The kid is already great at this game and is just trying to help. Everybody else seems to enjoy these videos and gets great value out of them. I hope he continues making this content, especially if he likes doing it. What a dumb comment.
@@VIIFII_D2 I said he knows how to get the disc to do what he wants. But the fact is, you got this little kid that didn't even pay attention in school trying to act like the people he never payed attention to. And to be a teacher you have to be able to explain something and explain why it is the way it is. But since you think he should keep doing it, instead of paying attention to what I said to him, you should pay attention to what he's saying to you, cuz if you think someone as young as him that never had to worry about explaining how to do anything, can actually teach, then you have probably 1 the same immature overly emotional attitude as Gannon and 2 the ability to play like a junior in the 12 and under bracket, because little kids usually think that people who don't know what they are talking about are the smartest people in the world

Probably cuz you want your senpai Gannon to notice you, and give you a pat on the back because you were never loved enough as a kid, or you're probably jealous that I understand science and anatomy and your pro crush doesn't. You are now champion! 17yr old.

Great instructional. It has given me lots to think about and work on during the winter season.
Might alter my power grip a bit now, thank you, had my fingers different.
For such a young guy I’m so impressed with your teaching ability and your composure keep it up your going to be the goat by the end of your career!
He's back! I'll keep sharing your stuff bro! Keep it up

Can you make a video on off arm I thought I was doing it right but then it hurt my back bc I was driving it down and back like I see the pros do
Are your fingertips on the flight plate or fingernails?
Kinda my fingernails I have to keep them short haha
thank you Gannon Buhr I am 12 years old and my putting is not that great and the putting tip in this video helped me

Use that KJ Grenade grip for your throwmahawk 🤘😎
Hey Gannon, Do you throw a Chickenwing? It's pretty much all I throw. 🐔
That's some good teaching Gannon, but the real question is can you do this....*dance moves*
Single finger forehand, for those with pointer prowess
Where'd ya get the alden-stamped pink disc? Is that an M4?
Alden gave it to me. It’s a Pa1

What about thumb position?
I like for backhands to put it where the rim meets the flight plate

Thanks Gannon
Wow that power grip I cannot do. Idk why but i cannot get my finger to curl like that
i need some of those gb 350g pa3's

It’s actually probably the worst possible grip for a forehand. It results in less spin and shorter throws

Forgot to mention that
