I've been looking at different videos on how to make trini style kitchri and all the cooks made it in a different way not one was the same including this one. This was the only guy who got the most negative comments about his version so I just wanted to shout out some love and appreciation for your video and I will definitely be trying your version along with the others.

I'm sure this tastes good but this is not Trini Split Peas Rice........The video should be titled Split Peas Fried Rice or Veggie Fried Rice with Split Peas.

I will admit I was a little hesitant to try this method ONLY because it wasn't how I learned to cook it.....BUT I must confess. You gave me a new way to make split peas and rice. This non-traditional method was a lot quicker and has so much flavor compared to the traditional way I learned from my mother and grandmother who taught me when I was younger. In the past it would be hit or miss because sometimes I would have a few peas that was harder than others but this method, all of my peas were tender. While I was doing the prep work (chopping of my carrots, onions, etc) I used my pressure cooker to soften the split peas and then followed your steps (I left out the corn though, only because I didn't have any). AMAZING!!!!! Thank you for the alternate method, I am very appreciative!

My grandmother made it quite different, she would boil her dhal first and then add the rice and water, but yes you did mention that it was not the traditional way to do it.

I personally don't like wet split pea rice so I like this method. My late grandmother made split peas and rice which was on the drier side but she cooked the split peas until the texture was softer. I would say the middle ground between raw split peas and the soft dahl like consistency. I would recommend that Chef Lovell cook the peas until they are softer.

Please teach it the traditional way so people will know how to do it..whenever you're doing something do it good and done...another thing when adding seasoning please say it out loud because you only say few words when adding seasoning
