Man this is totally the way to demo amps. Unlike the other guys that do way too much processing. This is what the amp actually sounds like. You can't really tell with the other demos. Subscribed thanks.
They both sound amazing. I have a 50 watt Stealth and IMO it's the best amp I've ever played. The one thing about the entire 5150 lineup (Peavey, EVH) is they are all tight as hell, in a good way.
@@Zaydizz30 I've never used it in a gig setting as I'm just a hobbyist bedroom guitarist. I can tell you it's loud as hell and maintains it's tonal characteristics even when cranked. If I had to give my opinion you should absolutely be able to use it in a live setting...it's loud as hell for a 50 watter.
@@Zaydizz30The stealth 50 watt full stack up against the jcm800 full stack are almost the same volume so the stealth keeps up just great ! The stealth even had more bass responses. I compared the stealth to my DSL40 combo but hooked up to the same 412 and they are about the same volume. I also compared the stealth 50 against the peavey 6534+ and that's 120 watts and it's a bit louder but the stealth keeps up pretty good. 7 on master for stealth is like 6 on the peavey so they're close really.
I have the 50 watt stealth and a block letter 5150. The stealth is much more plug and play and obviously way more versatile. The Peavey has more of an open roar to it. With a boost, it’s more my flavor, but the stealth is the better overall amp imo.
I do like these both. One thing I'd like to see is getting them to sound the same, then turn around and dial em for their strengths. That'd be interesting to see the tone differences at that point.

I see this video more helpful to how dial a nice tone with those amps, both amps has a killer soung but they have slighly differences and that's the point, now, the way you dial the tone correctly makes the difference, nice video Kyle!
This was the shootout I was waiting for and you delivered on it Kyle!! 🤘🏼😭 I’m an avid fan of the 6505+ (USA of course) and I just recently purchased the stealth… without a doubt they’re both my favorite amps of all time! The mids on the 6505ii ROAR and the stealth is definitely tighter and has attack. Loved this video Kyle. My wallet is definitely gonna take a huge hit when peavey releases the 6505ii lol cheers man 🔥👏🏻
😂 I know man ! I've got the 6534+ and the Stealth and you are right on ! Try what I do, which is run the line out or pre amp out from the fender evh into input on the peavey clean channel with gain and volume up pretty good 6 or so, then use the footswitch for the fender to control all the 3 evh channels and be amazed !!!!
Obviously two differently voiced amps. I hear the EVH being more saturated with more happening in the upper frequencies, where the Peavy sounds a little dryer with more gnarl in the lower mids.
IMO, I think this video is less about the similarities/differences between these two amps, and more about your ability to dial in a great tone on either one. Kudos to a great shootout, man! 🤘🏾😝🤘🏾

Dear Kyle. I love your stuff, as an aspiring Producer (Still Beginner) this content helps me on gear decisions a lot. Thank You. What I watet to say about this video is its unfortunate these two are not Volume matched at all and you had the master louder on the Stealth so it sound a lot bigger.
Glad you like the videos man! However, the volumes in the room absolutely were matched, and you have to consider that every amp's volume pot has a different taper, so to reach the same DB level, they will have to be at different settings. This in no way indicates how much volume or headroom an amp has left on the dial, as again, each amp will have different volume tapers. Remember that moving forqard and you'll be good to go!
I love the comparison videos of Kyle! Are one of the few that really sound real! Many videos are done with loadboxes or expensive mics but Kyle really got it to the standard setup that has been used in most of the metal recordings, the SM57 + Mesa Recto Cab! I have both amps and as Kyle said, it is just a matter of taste of what you want, you can never go wrong with them!!!
Got to admit I liked the stealth more than I expected to given that I've always felt that the fender 5150s lacked the punchy lower mids (cocked wah) that really defines the 5150 tone. A mid hump in front of the pre amp (a boost) really helped it. I don't see it as a knock that the green channel is not that suited to thrash metal riffs. I have the xxx and really wish it had a true crunch channel instead of two thrash/death metal channels (i love the xxx crunch channel but it isn't a crunch channel)
I really liked the riff that you stopped and said you don't know how to play your own riff. Reason I like it so much is it had the perfect amount of percussiveness to let that bottom end oomph through just enough to keep the energy high without being any kind of muddy.
I think we have similar tone preferences. I thought the blue channel sounded better vs the 6505 crunch... right up until the TC boost section. Then at 9:15 you said exactly what I had in mind. Hard to choose with a boost out front and dialed in EQ.
I will say of the stealth, you can get a more usable range out of the red channel with a lower output PAF style pickup. Those amps have SO much gain it feels extraneous to use anything high output.
Hi Kyle, thanks for the great video and all your awesome content in general. Lots of fantastic tips and advice, very helpful and inspiring. I am thinking about buying one of two amplifiers: EVH 5150 III Stealth 50-watt or Peavey 6505 1992 Original 120-watt. I'm leaning towards the 6505 but I'm afraid it will be too strong for rehearsals. Do you think I will be able to get that classic, big brutal and wild sound of the 6505 without drowning out others, including drums? The line-up is 2 guitars, bass, drums, the room is about 256 Square Feet. I will be very grateful for the hint and advice. 🙂
They both sound good, it's kind of a to each their own, what sounds good to you sorta thing. The stealth is tighter, and thicker, but the 05ii isn't flubby and thin by any means. just a different voicing and focus. I really wanted the stealth, but came across a deal i couldn't refuse on the og ivory 6l6 so it'll suffice for now.
I sided with the EVH for most of the video, but once you started dialing the Peavey in to sound more like the EVH I liked the Peavey better. With all at noon I preferred the EVH, and in the green channel I preferred the EVH, but once you dialed them to sound similar I was having a hard time choosing. Both handled actives nearly the same. The whole time it almost sounded like the Peavey wasn't as loud, idk why. I would be happy with either, but in terms of the amp's raw sound I choose the EVH. Although I assume that the 6505II will be at a much lower price point than the EVH considering the 6505 series generally has been in the budget tube price range compared to EVH. Give me either for free and I will be a happy camper though. 😂 Great video.
Good test video but it lacks of a step where you push the 2 amps to their limits, eg set the treble and presence knobs of the 2 at max, to see which of them can achieve the extremest sound.
Kyle, my 50 watt Stealth arrives in 2 days. To say I am excited would be an understatement. So I am spending a cold, lazy day watching Stealth videos. I really like this video because I played through a 5150 II/Boogie 4x12 rig for almost 20 years. About 5 years of that was as a full stack on top of two Boogie 4x12's. So I am very intimately familiar with that tone. This video did more to let me know what to expect out of the Stealth than any other content. Although I am using a different cab now, I still have a good idea what to expect. I am planning on grabbing a good A/B/Y pedal and running my Stealth simultaneously with my MT15. I am hoping the mids overlap in a good way.
I wonder what pricing will be on the new 6505 II? I like the way the 6505 II sounds, I like that is has the full 100 watts (for dealing with loud drummers) and it doesn't have the Stealth's over the top gain all the time, so it seems like it would be more versatile for more styles of music. I like the new Peavey look with the big numbers and the modern slanted peavey logo down to the right. I finally tried the 5150 50w 6L6 (white) vs the Stealth 50w at a nearby guitar Center, using an EVH 112 (although I prefer full 4X12's). I didn't like the plastic-y feel of the knobs, and those silver knobs on the Stealth would be hard to see in a dark room or on a dark stage. I actually preferred the Stealth 50W over the standard 50w and actually liked it's red channel for the singing sustain that it offers. Both were a little mushy and loose in the low end when playing fast low E string stuff or chugging. I like my Katana Artist Mk II (on Boss' "Brown" variation), because it stays tighter in the low end, and their Waza "Greenback" has a nice clear sound, with a high 100w power handling. I wouldn't mind plugging an EVH 5150 head into the Waza speaker to see if that tightens up the low end. @Kyle, have you ever tried the Waza 4X12 cab?
6505 II All Day! Legendary Peavey tones, raunchy, aggressive and nasty high gain metal growl! I love it! EVH Stealth is definitely good sounding but it’s too fizzy and too compressed. Great vid KB!
6505II for me, but I might be bias because I own 4 OG 5150's and a heavily modded 6505+. I've played on the EVH 5150III when they first came out and almost picked one up, but since I still owned th e 5150's I decided not to. You honestly can't go wrong with either. Rock on \m/
_Honestly speaking…. nobody is going to be able to beat the EVH 50 watt Stealth! 🛡️⚔️🎶🏆 For the money…. I feel it is a tone monster. Not only Metal but hard rock too. Excellent work with the video Kyle!_
I prefer the 6505II on the green and red channel. I've played both and own a 6505+. I find the EVH 5150 to be excellent at wowing you with its extreme tightness gain and aggressiveness, but in practice unless you do metal chugging at all times, the 6505II is much much more versatile at getting tones from classic rock to super saturated boosted chugging metal. Meanwhile, the 5150 is kind of is always super tight sounding even without boosting it, so it makes playing anything other than tight metal not that appealing to me and very hollow sounding for non metal. For me EVH 5150 is the ultimate tight chugging machine, and is optimized for this. The 5150II / 6505 / 6505+ is the most versatile amp, being able to pull classic rock to tight boosted metal effortlessly. You can have loose or tight tones. Can't go wrong with either, they both sound incredible, it's a matter of preference and priorities.
Hey Kyle! Im the same about 5153 (50w original) red CH. My solution to make it more lush, useable, less blurry.... a JJ 12DW7 in V2. Ive tried various 12at7's au7's etc, but as odd as it may seem the 12dw7 wins. It reduces the gain & fattens the tone a little. Still the Blue Channell is the winner, but at least I can USE the red. I mostly use Tung sols for the rest of the preamp tubes. I did a lot of experimenting.
Is this mostly an issue with the 50w? I remember the blurriness/ squishiness/ high compression when I owned a 50w, although I still loved that amp. Now I've had the regular 6L6 100w 5150iii for a few months, and I don't experience any of those things on channel 3. It feels/ sounds a lot closer to a peavey 5150/6505... more open and full, without the need of a boost to stay tight/ percussive on the low end. Honestly, can't go wrong with any of the 5150/6505 variants!
Question: Is Peavey about to release the 6505 II? They currently sell the 6505 and the 6505+, but not the 6505 II. The last "II" Peavey sold was the 5150 II which was essentially at 6505+ or something close? So they are about to release this in the 6505 family?
I had that "presence" issue with my 100 watt Stealths. 0-7...nothing. It started working between 7-10. I guess the 50 watt version doesn't have that problem.
Kyle is the Peavy a 120 watt head like its predecessor or did they drop the wattage? If its 120 do you know if there's a reactive load box that can handle above 100w?
The EVH stealth 100 w would be too much for the 6505 ii. The stealth 50w head still sounds better in my opinion. Great review of these great amps and new subscriber here.🎸🎶🤘🏻🍺
😂 the Red channel in the stealth is for leads and you don't set the gain as high as the blue or green. You also cut the bass on the red to get midrange leads !😮
To me, the Peavey 6505 II has more bite comparing to the EVH 5150 III. I think the EVH will sound better with a 12AT7 as a first tube preamp instead of a 12AX7, to get the gain much more usable.
Great comparison Kyle. What I got out of this and past experience with 5150's is that I would prefer the Stealth for home use and the 5150 II for band/live use. It's all in the mids. I love the Stealth's low mid grunt for solo playing. But it's hard to argue against all the mid content the 5150 II has for live use.
@ BazonBlades question for you please, in a recording studio environment which would you prefer. The Stealth or 5150 II? I am a little limited on space for now so I am thinking the Stealth would do.
@mixc8 , I would take the 50 watt Stealth over any of the Peavey 5150 models I ever owned. It really is a better amplifier overall. That said, if you are going specifically for a Peavey 5150 tone, then a Peavey 5150 is what you need. The mids on the Stealth are way different than an OG 5150. Although an EQ pedal in the loop will get you really close.
So is the only way to get good cleans out of 6505 to really put some clean amp in the FX loop and ABY switch it? I don't think I've ever owned an amp without a true clean channel,...this blew my mind now that I received the 6505. Wasn't even a thought to ask lol.
Peavey settings by matt heafy Pre gain: 3 Treble: just below 6 Mid: just above 2 Bass: just below 8 Presence: 7-8 Resonance: 10 Post gain: 0 Good luck trivium fans 🤘🏻
I think I’ll still go with the 5150III Stealth 50 for now. Just more fit for what I currently want. Doesn’t mean I won’t end up with a 6505 at some point tho
I don't understand why EVH doesn't just make a two channel amp? Ch1 for cleans and channel 2 for the dirt. If you want more game add a built-in boost. They did the same thing with the pedal.
I disagree I prefer it to be a 3 channel amp. 2nd channel is great for boosted/overdrive pedals like you said. But the 3rd channel is amazing. It has a sound that you can't replicate and in my opinion, sounds much better than boosting it. Although I do love boosting the 2nd channel and that tone. It just sounds natural while also has a ton of gain while boosted doesn't sound natural to me. At least in my opinion from listening to mine and listening to amps with a boost pedal. The third channel sounds killer
Great comparison my dude! The 6505 seems to cut a mix better. I look forward to you trying out a Wizard or Badcat. I wish there was a good deal by you you haha.
Peavey for me, I like that mid snarl. In that respect, I would really like to know how it compares to a 5150 III EL34. Could you shootout a 6505+ to an EL34 5150 III sometime?
The evh stealth is less reliable, i have had 2 separate stealths fail, never had any issues with my 6505’s whether they were my american or chinese made version.
It's the peavey for me but I actually really like both. I have a question, would you trade in or sell a USA 6505+ and put it towards a brand new 6505 II? I'm talking for people on budgets.
it blows my mind how great the OGs sound! You can not beat a boosted 6505/6550+. If you want something that fits in the mix perfectly, look no further.......Thanx!
I feel like the stealth owns the peavey until you switched to the red channels, then the peavey eats the stealth for breakfast. That 6505 red channel remains epic. The red channel on the stealth is almost too tight and defined for me, if that makes any sense. The peavey is able to stay tight and tracks well but sounds fuller to my ears. But again, just my opinion.
@@belligerentamateur My jabra head phones but its more a personal preference i think, i keep my lows around 8 to 9 and resonance around 7 to 8 on my 6505. I like to chug lol
Im very surprised that you havent got a 2555x silver jubilee, considering your amp collection. You have a lot of marshalls so you clearly like that sound and its got a type of saturation that the 2203 dont have. Whats your thoughts on the silver jubilee?
Belligerent Amateure you are a cool Dude i love the tones you come up with you have a great ear and great descriptions of your likeing i like tones that you like thick crispy high mids with just the right of high end sparkle i no it sounds crazy but you should do a reveiw of a jensen blackbird with many high gain amps and that would be killer for you to open the door with jensens bb100 it is a very good speaker i have one its my favorite speaker i no your a amp guy but you can check out bb100thanks keep on rocken
This pretty much confirms what I've always been saying about the fender evh - it's a peavey 5150 but with without the need for a tubescreamer.

I’m guessing you own a peavey lol
There’s something about the growl of the 6505ii that hooks me in. Playing old school Thrash and Swedish Metal with that would be so much fun!
Love the moment when you dialed them in exactly alike, and you could see on the knobs, how much headroom the EVH still had! Excellent comparison!!

Holy heck that ltd silverburst looks so tough with the brushed-black emg set. I've always wanted the floyd version of that, or the black and gold.
So glad you're out here sticking your neck out for Peavey 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 so many people out here saying the EVH is better just to meet the status quo
The Stealth would be my choice today! It sounds less rough/raw and that helps in the mixes and also suits my ear. Still it doesn't lose any brutality.
The stealth is more defined always, even for a little but they do sound very very close anyway.
How do you like your new stealth compared to the 5150 II? Best regards
6505II sounds best to me. Such a sweet tone, even with high output, compressed pups
I love the gutteral of the stealth so Stealth for me 🤘🏻
6505 II All Day! Legendary Peavey tones, raunchy, aggressive and nasty high gain metal growl! I love it! EVH Stealth is definitely good sounding but it’s too fizzy and too compressed. Great vid KB!
Is the 50 watt version loud enough to gig with? Can’t decide between the 1992 5150 or the 6L6
More than loud enough
Stealth blue dialed in Vs red dialed in on the 6505 though?
next review hopefully evh 5150 50 stealth vs prs archon 50 mk2.
I can def do that!
The claws of that EVH completely shredded that poor old peavey. 🔥🤘🔥
Great review of these great amps and new subscriber here.🎸🎶🤘🏻🍺
I find it hilarious that the 6505ii added changes I have been making to 5150ii and 6505+ amps for almost 20 years lol.
😂 the Red channel in the stealth is for leads and you don't set the gain as high as the blue or green. You also cut the bass on the red to get midrange leads !😮
I kind of wish there was a 6505 50 watt version
Kyle, didn't you work in Santa Clara, CA Guitar Center?
Never even been to Santa Clara
A year later and the 6505 II still hasn't been released.
To me, the Peavey 6505 II has more bite comparing to the EVH 5150 III. I think the EVH will sound better with a 12AT7 as a first tube preamp instead of a 12AX7, to get the gain much more usable.
When is the 6505ii coming out
Great comparison Kyle. What I got out of this and past experience with 5150's is that I would prefer the Stealth for home use and the 5150 II for band/live use. It's all in the mids. I love the Stealth's low mid grunt for solo playing. But it's hard to argue against all the mid content the 5150 II has for live use.
Appreciate ya, man
@ BazonBlades question for you please, in a recording studio environment which would you prefer.
@@BazonBlades Thanks!
@@mixc8, no problem.
So is the only way to get good cleans out of 6505 to really put some clean amp in the FX loop and ABY switch it? I don't think I've ever owned an amp without a true clean channel,...this blew my mind now that I received the 6505. Wasn't even a thought to ask lol.
6505 red all day. I’ve played with no PA and a cranked 5150 block letter a few times it sounded sick !!
When is the 6505 ii coming??
COMPRESSION comes into play.
Stealth wins. No contest.
They both sound very similar to each other.
Peavey settings by matt heafy
Pre gain: 3
Treble: just below 6
Mid: just above 2
Bass: just below 8
Presence: 7-8
Resonance: 10
Post gain: 0
Good luck trivium fans 🤘🏻
Hey I have a mesa 50 cal+ and a stealth 50 and my mesa blows tje stealth away low end wise was kinda hoping you might share some settings for both
I love them both. I think I'd go for the Peavey just for fidelity to my favorite brand.
Just the video I was looking for. Was gonna buy a 5150iii stealth 50w. Just saw the 6505II, so now I’m trynna choose again 😂
I think I’ll still go with the 5150III Stealth 50 for now. Just more fit for what I currently want. Doesn’t mean I won’t end up with a 6505 at some point tho
That 6505II red channel sounds fucking massive
Yes, yes it does
I don't understand why EVH doesn't just make a two channel amp?
They did. It's called The Iconic ;)
Great comparison my dude! The 6505 seems to cut a mix better. I look forward to you trying out a Wizard or Badcat. I wish there was a good deal by you you haha.
Maaaannnnnn, ME TOO!
No. Just buy a good eq pedal.
it blows my mind how great the OGs sound! You can not beat a boosted 6505/6550+. If you want something that fits in the mix perfectly, look no further.......Thanx!
Ending it with a fight riff
I feel like the stealth owns the peavey until you switched to the red channels, then the peavey eats the stealth for breakfast. That 6505 red channel remains epic. The red channel on the stealth is almost too tight and defined for me, if that makes any sense. The peavey is able to stay tight and tracks well but sounds fuller to my ears. But again, just my opinion.
Does the Stealth’s Blue channel gain knob affect the gain on the Red channel like it does on the 100w Stealth?
Not that I have noticed
stealth vs OG III vs 6505???
I love them both!
I did a shootout at guitar center for some reason the 6505 plus 112 has more gain than the 6505 head seemed to me anyway
the 112 combo is a totally different circuit. I agree though, it does have a lot more gain, pretty similar to the 6505 MH
@@belligerentamateur how do you think the 6505+ 112 combo will compare to the EVH stealth .
Are you sure those drop C riffs aren’t drop C#, I was playing along and they were one fret out
Could be! I usually just pick my guitars up and go and don't tune them unless they're way out of whack
I would love to hear them with some more low end, both sound very thin
What are you listening on?
@@belligerentamateur My jabra head phones but its more a personal preference i think, i keep my lows around 8 to 9 and resonance around 7 to 8 on my 6505. I like to chug lol
Im very surprised that you havent got a 2555x silver jubilee, considering your amp collection. You have a lot of marshalls so you clearly like that sound and its got a type of saturation that the 2203 dont have. Whats your thoughts on the silver jubilee?
I really need to. always wanted to try one but never found the right deal!
@@belligerentamateur hoping you get one soon!
@@belligerentamateur The jubilees are awesome, definitely should review one..... Love your channel bro.
Red channel 6505II and crunch 5150 stealth are the winners IMO.
Gotta crank the resonance on the 5150iii and it becomes different animal
