Great video! This is the first time I’ve seen a review where someone knew how to handle the blue channel on the EL34 version of the 5150. Awesome idea to compare it to the JCM 800. I found this super helpful. Nice work Euge!
@@ariskoskinas It's very muddy/muffled/cheap-sounding if you don't do the c137 clip mod. Do that to make it as clear as the other two 50 amps' blue channels. Some people mod that C137 capacitor with a toggle so they can have the vintage Marshall sound, or switch back to the modern EVH blue channel.

Tô make the block letter sharp, you have to use the original preamp tubes that it was designed with and use an overdrive. In that amp, those tubes make a big difference. Most people who switched them out were trying to de-fizz the amp, but it's only fizzy with the stock tubes at low volume. At 4+ on the master, how Eddie used the amp, the fizz vanishes... However, the fizz is useful for metal IMHO, and it seems mose metal people put the Master in between 2 and like 3.2. First, excellent review from a perspective most actual guitarists want to see. Rarely do I see someone know exactly what's different and quickly demonstrate. Amazing. I have nice speakers and know...while listening... even excellent speakers can never really match what you hear live, but the 100 watt head, to my ears, had something special. Having said that, I also heard where each amp had a great voice and none wouldn't work for any scenario. I also suspect they could be tweaked to get what you want anyway. The newer amps do have features; especially MIDI, where they learn and you can have the amp auto-switch based on scenes, if connected to something like an Axe FX or Line 6, or whatever. That is an awesome feature that matters to me. Recently heard demos of the boss EVH dual channel delay (from Pete Thorn) designed to give you EVH's wet/dry/wet out of the box, whether you have three amps or two (simulates). Now, that is my dream. I want at least two EVH amps, the boss delay, a mimiq pedal (to simulate double tracking) and a harmonizer (to simulate two guitars soloing 1/3 apart in the scale). BTW: The noise reduction on that boss pedal is off the charts supreme. No noise and you don't lose the trailing echoes. Unbelievable actually. Again, great review. One of the best I've seen; even though I am not as heavy metal oriented (heavy chugging). No complaints, we have our own tastes. Even better that you have actual talent. Great stuff! Impressed and appreciate. One thing I would like to see is what EVH brought out in all his amps... picking up harmonics beautifully. I have a USA signature EVH guitar and the pickups do match the amp. Its very noticeable. Other guitars for me (Charvel, Gibson, Fender, PRS) just don't easily do the tapping harmonics or have that EVH thing. My Charvel San Dimas is closest and its actually my favorite to play because of its neck, width between strings, and other features just suit my fingers better. There is no doubt though... the EVH Signature pickups are tuned to match the EVH amps. Just sweetness comes out and it just seems like less effort to achieve. For me, if I could put my Charvel neck on the EVH: perfection.

Fantastic comparison. I prefer the Stealth version to my ears, but I can see the recording benefit of the EL34 version. That EVH guitar has a super bright pickup! I tried one in a guitar shop and had to bring the highs and presence on several amps way down. It pairs extremely well with the 5153 amps, a little bright for the Friedman JJ Jr, Marshall SC20H. I really want to run it through the SLO 30 and Bogner 3534. Anyways, sidebar! Man with actives they both sound monstrous. Advantage to the EL34 though. The ability of that sound to cut through a mix is undeniable.
I bought a used el34 5153 cuz of this video. I’m not that good at metal and play indie rock and punk more , but honestly it’s friggin awesome for that too, my fuzz pedal sounds crazy through the green and the blue . Thanks dude you rule; subscribed !!
Great video as always Euge! To help the EVH amps very sensitive volume controls, I put the JHS Little Black Amp Box in the FX loop - it acts as a second master to "dumb down" the volume knob and makes it easier to get the volume level you want. Doesn't seem to affect tone. You can of course use an EQ or volume pedal the same way in the loop and just reduce the output that way.
Oh, another experimental crazy clown giving us misleading and wrong advice. You're obviously wrong about this so called volume problem. Do volume controls have feelings now? Do I buy chocolates or roses for this one?
I think your guitar playing is bad ass Euge. I have the 6L6 and love it better than my Marshall JCM 800 50 watt combo. Technology just keeps blowing and going with everything.
You sound great through all these amps! Love that 50watt EL34 version. I found this video and then headed over to iTunes and bought Shooting From The Hip. I'm glad I found your channel!
Easily the best review so far. Got my hands on the 100w Stealth and EL34 yesterday at the same time. Stealth has absolutely ballsy aggressive gain, but the EL34 has this great compressive warmth across all spectrums, and its clean was just immaculate. You really captured the amps in all their truth. The 5150 Peavey actually sounded really good too! Thank you for an amazing video, and your candor was fun and knowledgeable. Subscribed 🤘😁
Which do you prefer? I got a EL34 50W and have been debating getting the Stealth version too to compare, but these amps are so fucking overly compressed gain-wise even on the ‘rhythm’ channel (which is great for modern metal, little else), I feel I should just save for like a Friedman to get more natural less artificial sounding dirt tones.
@@EugeValovirta230V I ended up going for the 100w EL34 and I have to say... I'm pretty upset. Out of the box, its tone was much harsher than I expected. Even messing with the resonance knobs on the back didn't help very much. The distortion sounds a bit weak, like a Fender blues crunch that's being pushed to its limit. Cranking the (red channel) gain, presence, and then the high end and mid finally gave it some saturation, but by that point your tone has suffered and that's all it can give you. The blue channel is thin and incredibly harsh. It doesn't sound much like the exact same model EL34 I tried 2 weeks ago.
@@EugeValovirta230V I'll admit, I'm not at all a fan of most fender amps. I feel they're thin, weak on distortion, and just never really give me the tone I want. I used to really like Peaveys (I think the XXX). Mesa's rectifiers were pretty decent. Marshall makes a great head for distortion, they have a warm, saturated distortion that reminds me of a blanket. This sounds like a fender amp with all the downsides of marshall muffling. Is there anything I can do? Would adjusting the tube bias help?
Great video! Agree that its a matter of taste to say which you like most! I have both 50w and my preference goes with the Stealth, nut there are days that want to use the EL34. Now you got those make a video dialing the Tokyo Dome tone 🤘🏽🤘🏽
Thanks! I guess I covered the EVH tones quite well on the video I put out recently so lots of gain, go easy with the mids and play like the King and there it is. Sounds easy but it’s not 😎.
Continued great playing and comparisons. I think the 5150's are surprisingly similar especially given that they're using such different of power tubes. I prefer the EL34 version because I'm a "Marshall guy" and drawn to more midrange. Probably because that's where what I have left of my hearing is most sensitive. Cheers!
This isn't a wise video. None of the sayings were wise. None of the sounds were correct. The full EVH system wasn't used at any time during this video. You never heard the sounds of the EVH amplifier. All you heard was experimental crazy sounds.
Your videos are great. I appreciate you play the equipment alone and without any backing tracks. I feel you cannot tell anything about the guitar or amp if one is playing a song or with a backing track.
5150III 50W have C-taper presence potentiometers, with same pot position this gives more presence. 5150III 100W should be darker, maybe even more than original 5150s, from schematic point of view :) And thanks for St.Rock REACT:IR demonstration with different amps.
Euge!! I think you should get a dsl100hr from Musix and do a shootout with the 800's, plexi and 5150 to show how an 800€ amp from marshall compares?... what do you think?
Wow !! I think this just became my favorite High-Gain head - especially since I can't afford a Dave Friedman BE lol That high-gain Tone is super crunchy with awesome articulation like George Lynch's MONSTER tone on the Back For the Attack record !!
What great timing, 5 days ago I managed to get hold of a used EL34 50 Watt - it's on its way now. Glad I chose this one over the Stealth/OG 6L6 III. If I ever want the 6L6 sound, I will go for Peavey 6505 - to my ears it sounds more musical than EVH 6L6 amps.
Just picked up the el34 with the matching 2x12 cab. Having had the v1 6l6 50w head and now the 100w og. The el34 blue is mud compared to the 6l6. The notes aren't articulate on the top 3 strings, which i love on the 6l6. Do i clip the cap? Might go back to the chopping block. Guitar used is a 92 lp custom wino.
Great song and playing Euge! As owner of both the 5150 III 6L6 and EL34 50 watt heads I agree with you and love the EL34 version slightly more. IMHO the EL34 is bigger sounding of the two. Thank you for comparing the 5150 III EL34 v.s. JCM800 as I have been VERY curious!
Awesome video & guitar playing again! When listening to these amps through a pair of headphones the difference between the two 50W amps is so small that is barely audible
Dude just another kick ass comparison! I'm looking for a small watt tube amp. Note to manufacture you better be paying this guy good. Better than any sales Rep or show floor boy.😎🤘✌
That chorus tone sounds great. Those EVH amps sound great, the rhythm channel has a little more character and musicality than the lead channel. What's your opinion of the mxr preamp?
Thanks! It does indeed since it widens the tone nicely in the mix. I agree. I used it on my live board for a while when it came out but it was a bit too nice & dark sounding for my taste so I changed it to the Friedman BE-OD when that came out. Nowadays I use the BluGuitar AMP1 Iridium which is absolutely awesome since it’s a 100 watt tube amp and fits on my pedal board 👌😎.
I have the EL34 and have gain for days on red! I think the blue on the Stealth is a bit better, my best friend has that one. However my Maxxon 808 easily tightens it up and stand alone it's very 70s hard rock IMHO.
YOU are the Man!!!! Always amazing tones!!! I love my stealth, but also find the red channel almost unusable. Are there any modes to make it another blue channel so I can toggle between gain levels? Keep up the great videos!!
Hey Euge, great video!!! How do those EVH amps compare to the studio silver jubilee? They are close in price and I have been thinking about getting the jubilee but the 6L6 EVH looks pretty tempting as well. I'm still thinking about a kemper or ax fxiii as well but they would cost a little more with a cab.
Thanks! My choise of the three (Jube, 6L6 & EL34) would be the EVH EL34 which is really close to a Marshall with 3 great sounding channels from clean to hi gain 👌💪.
Some people instead complaining that st.Rock don`t produces set-top version :) And it`s more than cab sim, most volume inside takes load part, digital part takes relatively small volume. Pure cab sim is st.Rock AMP:IR module for amp builders (can be found in Hook and Driftwood amps) www.st-rock.com/ampir/ .
@@LucifdeLuther yeah I know, at the moment Im using the cab m by two notes and a rack load, but I wanna have an all the functions in one place if possible. The less stuff on already crowded floor boards or on other surfaces the better ;)
NICE! You know I have been waiting for this one! Those EVH amps are great. Everyone seems to love them. Only SLIGHT differences between the two, from what I am hearing on my end. They do sound very close to your 800! And I think they sounded BETTER than your block-letter 5150. The clean channels are great on both amps. I have heard people say the "blue" channel on the Stealth is better than the "blue" channel on the el34. If I had to buy one of those right now... I would grab the 50w Stealth. I think it has a nice balance of tones and features, and it has all the gain and aggression I would ever need. It also takes pedals really well, so you can make it do what you want by adding your favorite pedals. The Stealth rhythm channel with the SD-1 sounded fantastic. Thanks for another great video! You know you always get a thumbs-up from me! Arigatou gozaimasu! \m/
Time to start saving up... again ~ EL34 for me. I have the ML Sound Labs Amped Roots plugin version of it and it’s superb also. But you can’t beat the real thing.

You do the review of both amp and more in the right way so we can hear the difference between the amps....I really want one of those and I try the 5150iii 6L6 in guitar center in NY(I'm from Mexico and there's no GC here) and sound really sweet and brutal!! And I really want one....I hope can try the el34 version but this is my question..... If I buy the 6l6....I can not mistake on this right?, I meant this is Eddie's amps, there's no bad choices on those baby's ...what do you think?? Cool! Those two are basically all one needs. At least what I need😎👌.
Love your videos mate! Keep up the great work and give my regards to Jepser next time you see him!
Thanks man! Glad to hear! 👌👍
Well done! Great review and amazing playing.
Thanks!
Yeah I have been looking at buying one. They sound amazing. Great video, live it.
Cool! Thanks!
Nice man!!! I was the guy asking for this comparison! I own a EVH stealth lunch box and love it! You are the man! 💪😎
Cool man! Thanks!
I was also bugging him to do this comparison for awhile. Glad he was able to do it.
Thanks man!
Cool trick indeed 👌. I use an attenuator for that 😎.
Oh, another experimental crazy clown giving us misleading and wrong advice.
You're obviously wrong about this so called volume problem.
Do volume controls have feelings now?
Do I buy chocolates or roses for this one?
Your playing is amazing! Tone of the gods!
Thanks! 🙏☺️
Dude, love you bro. You're the best! Always wanted this comparison. Would be cool to use both in a mix for a guitar recording.
Thanks man! Indeed 👌
Marshall and EVH + winning = Euge
Love the tones !!
💪🙏😎
Great demo! Thanks for sharing it!
Glad to hear! Thanks!
It would be very interesting to see you to test Hughes & Kettner Grandmeister Deluxe 40 amp. Thanks for the great videos.
If I get my hands on one then for sure 👌.
Thanks man! You’re welcome 🙏.
I think your guitar playing is bad ass Euge. I have the 6L6 and love it better than my Marshall JCM 800 50 watt combo. Technology just keeps blowing and going with everything.
Thanks man! Cool!
Awesome as always!!! Thanks 🇨🇦
Thanks man!
You sound great through all these amps! Love that 50watt EL34 version. I found this video and then headed over to iTunes and bought Shooting From The Hip. I'm glad I found your channel!
Oh thanks man! Cool! 🙏🤟
Euge somehow you made your 5150III S sound way better than most youtubers ive listen to so far
Glad to hear & thanks! 👌🙏
Oh cool really glad to hear this! Thanks man! 🙏🤟
The EL34 one but my all time favourite amp is a Marshall JCM800 2203 which I have three 😎💪.
EVERYTHING YOU PLAYED AND EVERY TONE YOU USED SOUNDED KILLER!!! Which is kind of not fair since you're such an awesome player!! Rock on bro🤘😎👍🏁🏁🏁🏁!!!
Thanks man! Likewise! 🤟🎼🎸
Hahaha Euge ... thank you!
Those amps are so awesome! Holy crap what a perfect 7-String!😃🤘 So sick!
Crazy good tone 😃🤘✌
Thanks man! 😊🙏
The EVH with EL34 is amazing!! But i like The Marshall sound a little bit more. Great video!!
I agree 😎. Thanks!
Fantastic presentation & playing 👍. Very cool playalong that you did as well. Do you have that available for practicing use as a backing track ?
Thanks! Nope. Sorry 😎.
Continued great playing and comparisons. I think the 5150's are surprisingly similar especially given that they're using such different of power tubes. I prefer the EL34 version because I'm a "Marshall guy" and drawn to more midrange. Probably because that's where what I have left of my hearing is most sensitive. Cheers!
Thanks man!
I agree 👌😎.
This isn't a wise video.
None of the sayings were wise.
None of the sounds were correct.
The full EVH system wasn't used at any time during this video.
You never heard the sounds of the EVH amplifier.
All you heard was experimental crazy sounds.
Dreyn 77 your reply reads like the weirdest haiku written by the weirdest guy on the planet.
The EVH el34 has been a dream amp for me. Great video as always dude!
I think it’s my favourite of EVH amps. Probably like it more than my block letter. Thanks!
nice job.one of my favorite you tube riffers
Thanks!
I come here just for the playing now!
Glad to hear (that too) 😎!
Your videos are great. I appreciate you play the equipment alone and without any backing tracks. I feel you cannot tell anything about the guitar or amp if one is playing a song or with a backing track.
Thanks!
This is a great review - solid playing
Glad to hear! Thanks!
Great demo and excellent playing! I think I like the 5150 III el34 best.
Thanks!
Killer Rig! Sounds great.
They do indeed 💪. Thanks!
5150III 50W have C-taper presence potentiometers, with same pot position this gives more presence. 5150III 100W should be darker, maybe even more than original 5150s, from schematic point of view :)
And thanks for St.Rock REACT:IR demonstration with different amps.
That makes indeed sense. Thanks man!
Yeah it’s a fantastic ”Jack of all trades” device! 👌
REACT:IR the best %) \m/
Killer as usual Euge !!!!
Your playing and tone is every bit as accomplished as my favorite players from the 80's !!!😃😃🤟🤟
Oh thanks man! 🙏☺️🤟
I’ve owned 5150, 6505+ and EVH. My fav ”EVH” sound was the 6505+ throuh an Engl Artist Edition poweramp. More organic chugs and better mids.
Thanks for the video!
You’re welcome man! 😎
NIIIICEEEEE as always!!! Damn, I love your content!!
Thanks man! 🙏
Great comparison!
Thanks!
Euge!!
I think you should get a dsl100hr from Musix and do a shootout with the 800's, plexi and 5150 to show how an 800€ amp from marshall compares?... what do you think?
Great idea man! I actually asked it a while ago but they didn’t have it then but as soon as they have I’ll try it 👌.
Wow, what a great video! Superb playing and tones, love to hear you demo a silver jubilee!
Thanks!
I’ve done a few videos about a Jube so please check out my TUBE AMPS - playlist 👌😎.
@@EugeValovirta230V oh yeah, found them and loads of other great stuff. All superb, thanks!
Cool! Thanks!
Next you will have to compare with the upcoming evh 5150 iconic 80W :)
😎👌
Wow !! I think this just became my favorite High-Gain head - especially since I can't afford a Dave Friedman BE lol That high-gain Tone is super crunchy with awesome articulation like George Lynch's MONSTER tone on the Back For the Attack record !!
🤟💪😎
What great timing, 5 days ago I managed to get hold of a used EL34 50 Watt - it's on its way now. Glad I chose this one over the Stealth/OG 6L6 III. If I ever want the 6L6 sound, I will go for Peavey 6505 - to my ears it sounds more musical than EVH 6L6 amps.
Cool man!
C 137 mod fixes that
Great song and playing Euge!
Thanks man! Glad to hear!
Great vídeo.... Start the weekend!!!Ev.
Thanks! Yeah! 👌
Great demo!!!
Thanks!
Awesome video & guitar playing again! When listening to these amps through a pair of headphones the difference between the two 50W amps is so small that is barely audible
Thanks! Indeed 👌😎.
All the comparison videos of these two, i always thought the 6L6 version was much brighter with more clarity. The EL34 has a darker mid range crunch.
Dude just another kick ass comparison! I'm looking for a small watt tube amp. Note to manufacture you better be paying this guy good. Better than any sales Rep or show floor boy.😎🤘✌
Thanks man! 🙏😎
👌🤟
😂🤣😂 These tones make me laugh they’re so stupidly great!! Thanks Eddie..🤘🤘
I absolutely LOVE my 50 watt Stealth..what a beast
🤟😎
YOU are the Man!!!! Always amazing tones!!! I love my stealth, but also find the red channel almost unusable. Are there any modes to make it another blue channel so I can toggle between gain levels? Keep up the great videos!!
Thanks! No idea 😎.
@@EugeValovirta230V ok great thank you again for.your response!!!
DUDE!!! That was freakin epic! Well done and thanks! Grabbing the el34 asap.
Thanks!
Having an eye on the St. Rock cab sim myself, finally I a good solution that I can put in my rack without using trays
Some people instead complaining that st.Rock don`t produces set-top version :)
And it`s more than cab sim, most volume inside takes load part, digital part takes relatively small volume.
Yeah it’s really good!
Thanks! Glad to hear! 🙏👌☺️
Time to start saving up... again ~ EL34 for me. I have the ML Sound Labs Amped Roots plugin version of it and it’s superb also. But you can’t beat the real thing.
The real thing is always the real thing indeed 👌💪.
But someone still can try th-cam.com/video/J7F7k42E4SQ/w-d-xo.html :)
It's the first time I see your channel and it's amazing!!
By the way I love KISS , Rush, van halen, megadeth, dream theater...this can do the work right??
Thanks man! Glad to hear this!
It’s a great and versatile amp, like any EVH amp, so no bad choises IMO. Just different options 👌
@@EugeValovirta230V thanks for the answer dude!! It's really cool the way you do the videos and I really enjoyed this one!! I hope can buy this evh amp as soon as possible!!...I can't wait to see more and please keep doing this!! Again you are amazing and thanks for answering!
My pleasure man! Thanks! 🙏☺️
Love your videos Euge, I’m amp shopping and your amp demos are so much more helpful than most I’ve seen on TH-cam. Would love to see you demo or get your thoughts on the 100w version of the el34 stealth.
Keep up the great work!
Glad to hear thanks! I’m not sure if I’ve ever played with the 100w but I’ve played all the 50 watters and my favourite of those was the EL34 one so I’d guess that’d be the one from the bigger boys too 😎💪.
