Awesome! Excellent! Thanks! I have no other words to describe how grateful I am! This answers my question in full! Please continue with the hashtag, that's a great idea! And continue working on the channel, I love what you are doing!
@@Sadix99 That's right, I never understood why people get so obsessed about amps since the cabinet makes for about 70% of the sound. You see so many different videos comparing amps and pedals and far less about cabs.
Eh, they benefit from a Tubescreamer being on for sure. I remember I used mine for rhythms on a track, and forgotten I'd turned my TS9 off, and when I listened back, I was like "There's something underwhelming about this..." It was lacking that bite that OD pedals give. Had to re-do the tracks.
@@Nick-rf5we that wasn't actually what I meant to say with my comment, but I'll tell you this: Marten Hagström said he tracked Immutable using the preamp or a 100w EVH III into a mesa roadster power amp driving EVH cabs. So I wasn't too far off with my statement.
Nice comparison. I own a 5150 IIIS and a Tube Screamer in front of the third channel isn’t really necessary even with the gain below 12 o‘clock. The third channel has more than enough gain stages and diode clipping. For the Badlander it makes sense to get rid of some of the bassy flubbyness. The second channel of the Stealth is really what distinguishes it from the basic 5150 III, since it’s first gain stage is the first triode of the third channel with a different coupling cap and voltage dividers following.
I actually prefer the Mesa Boogie, however slightly. They're both dope, but the palm-muted chugs sound better on the Badlander. The 5150 just sounds a little brittle to me when chugging. I'd like to try panning one of each to each side - they probably sound great together.
The Badlander is just such a classic sound. It may come and go in and out of fashion from time to time, but it will be around forever. As great as the EVH sounds, I'm not sure you could say the same.
The Badlander is currently a more vintage sound vs the 5150 that is more modern. I get what you're saying. However, the 5150 will be around to stay maybe even more than the Badlander.
Literally have been researching this for the past week. Talk about a big coincidence! But I'm set on buying the Badlander. To me it seems it has a better low end sound. The EVH sounds a little thin. Thank you for this though! Love the new playlist idea!
Tremonti does use pairs of amp. Last time i saw a stage it was a Dual Rectifier and a Diezel. Parkway Drive does use the 5150 for their base sound. But they highly modify the amp befor they capture it with the Kemper, and sadly they don't tell people what they do by now.
Great new series! Love it! Got an 5150III 50W Version and for rythms i use the blue channel. Just increase the gain until it becomes chunky (in my case around 11 o clock) and then Kick a TS9 with Drive at 0 and volume fully open in front of it. Adjust the TS9 tone knob up to your taste and Enjoy! :D would love to hear this settings in comparison to the badlander. Stay Heavy my Friends 🤘
EVH 5150 III 100w el34 & 100w stealth have a secret function. Blue gain pot effects a gain structure of red channel. Try change blue gain while you are in red channel. When pot is higher it cuts the bass and gain is stronger. When pot is lower bass are boosted and gain reduced. For almost same gain structure as 50w version or original 100w you must set blue channel gain pot on 3,5.
Through headphones listening to the video; it seemed the MESA had a bit more growl, mid seemed beefier. But I am sure anyone would be thrilled with either. 😊
This is an excellent way to kick off the new series! Hope we'll see more gear comparisons in the future... lots of gear reviews out there but not as many videos putting similar products head to head to decide the absolute best :). Loved it, can't wait for more!
Definitely two different amps but I would take the EVH every time 🤘🏼 Thr Badlander needs pedals, the EVH doesn’t need anything, like Ola said.. it’s a complete package.
Cool Video, Thanks Ola excellent playing, I have both amps but Mesa Badlander through Mesa Cabinets V 30's and the EVH 5150 IIIS through the EVH Cabs & Greenbacks, there's the difference and how I think they sound the best and different.
Badlander with the TS was my favorite tonally in this instance. The 5150 would be my preference if I was using a 7 string or any tuning A and below I'd probably go that route.
I've never liked dual or triple rec's. Owned each twice. Other than the old tremoverb dual that's much tighter and more Master of Puppets-ish. (Never owned only played) The badlander seems to have nailed what i had always hoped the rectifier metal tone would be
What is your "go to" tube for the power section? I have a Diezel VH4 and Diezel VHZ with KT-77's but everyone tells me these amps totally come to life when modded with either 6L6's or 6550's. Cheers Ola!
i sold my EVH 50w stealth to get a badlander 50W...the EVH had kind of a "sterile" sound to my ears...plenty of gain but just wasn't my thing after a while...i pair the badlander with my mesa mark IV in a stereo rig with a little pepers dirty tree mixed in (TC mode) and i'm all set!!!
One thing that jumps out at me right way as a gigging musician is the size difference. I love the compact size of the Badlander. Much easier to carry around, and it'll fit on a 24" wide 2x12 cab. I have the 50 watt version. Kinda wish I had paid a little extra for the 100 watter since they're the same size. Both these amps sound killer though. Thanks Ola!
Great Respongse 🤘the Mesa Badlander 25 lunchbox is on my buy list… I have the EVH 5150III stealth LBX and love it ❤️ awesome video Ola 🤘🔥🤘 I think both amps sound awesome in their own ways 🤘🔥🤘
the thing about the mesa was the mids grunt and i recon it would sit better in the mix, with something to tighten the bottom end. i'm of the opinion that it's easier to take something out of a sound than to add something thats not naturally there. to me the evh was scooped and tight but lacked personality.
Hey Ola, love the series. Does removing tone pot/pots from the circuit make the pickups hotter, and if so is the difference really that audible. Wish you all the best in 2023, and maybe 1 mill, who knows...
I’m not Ola, sorry, but yes. Removing the pots does increase the output a little, you’ll also get more high end. You can install a blower switch on a push pull or toggle switch to bypass everything and just go straight to the output jack.
I'd love to hear the difference between the Engl Savage Mark II and Mesa Badlander. So that's my suggestion for the next vid of this kind. Greetings Ola!
Having an EVH5150III 50 Stealth and a Mesa Dual Rectifier, I can't choose between those guys ! They are extremely complementary for all type of Metal stuff, even if the Mesa is more versatile. But the precision and the brutality of the EVH fits perfectly with the darker and wilder side of the Mesa... Last but not least, as Ola said, the EVH is much easier to dial with to get a very good sound while the Mesa requires a little work...
IMO the Mesa has plenty of natural low end that really wouldn't benefit from a resonance control, so I don't consider that a negative. The EVH benefits from it because it's a little thinner by design. With a boost, it's the opposite... the Mesa benefits more from a boost and the EVH has so much gain on tap that it doesn't need any help other than maybe to tighten it up a bit. Both are crushing but I lean towards the Mesa (own both as well as other Mesas and EVH's).

I prefer the mesa, which is interesting because the last mesa I played, I didnt like it, it wasnt very clear, kind of muddy, and I didnt have time to dial it in for something I liked, so I kind of wrote it off. It was a mark 5.
I'd prefer the Mesa even if I was into drop tuned metal. To me it just sounds better. Maybe I'm not a big fan of the "modern" metal voicing so much. Yeah, I'm sure of it.

That and at least 70% of my favorite tones were made with some variation of that amp.
A year ago I had to decide between the two of them. I took the EVH though I also very much like the Badlander tone. But the EVH is not just cheaper its also more "my" tone ;)
Mesa had that guttural grunt. Brutal.
EVH has the glassy modern attack. Another flavor of brutal.
Guttural is definitively the right keyword here. Reminds me of the Savage 120 in the character.
Perfect description!🤘
Together they would be amazing
is it me or the badlander sounds like a boosted krank revolution?
Exactly

Not a massive tone shift between them and once the TS-808 was engaged I'd be lying by saying I could distinguish who's who. Great video series!
that's because 2 amps on one same will sound very similar... want a massive change ? same amp, different cabinet (speaker).
@@Sadix99 That's right, I never understood why people get so obsessed about amps since the cabinet makes for about 70% of the sound. You see so many different videos comparing amps and pedals and far less about cabs.

The Badlander is the one I would want just sounds more like what I would want
That Mesa was crushing! Really thick sounding. For the same price, I'd go Badlander every day between those two.

Mesa Badlander was 🔥🔥🔥 found the high end had more bite and the overall notes more attack.
I have a Badlander 100 and it’s super percussive. I love it. And it takes boost very well.
