Great! They look exactly like what I need to move up from my beaver craft starters. Thank you 😊

I love DRAKE carving knives! Don’t try to pry out or flick out stubborn chips or shavings. Exceptionally sharp and easy to keep sharp. Handles fit nicely in my short wide hands. All the possible stars!

I really like the Drake knives. I have a 'Gil Special', hook knife, 1-½" detail, and ¾" mini detail; as well as a v-tool and a gouge. The blades are great - really thin. You have to be very careful - I've broken 2 of the tips (and then fixed them using Gil's instructions). The handles are just sooo comfortable. A note about the mini-detail handle - the shape allows for a 'pencil grip'.

I absolutely love the palm tools. I really don't like the handles on the knives except for the Gil Special. I have the full set of the knives and I just don't find myself reaching for them except for the small detail and Gil Special.

Having watched this video I ordered a Drake detail knife, that was in October ‘23 and I’m still waiting for delivery (June ‘24). It just better be good, if/when it does arrive…

I would say expect it around October but don't trust my word for it like gospel. When I ordered mine I remember seeing the website say still working on orders from March and thinking okay that's only 3 months ago so I placed my order and expected it to arrive in December because that was 6 months later. It arrived at my old address on the 5th of June but I was still in contact with the people living there so I just got it open today on the 16th. Thsi knife is so beautiful, so high quality, and very very sharp. It took probably a year to get to me but I'm just glad to have it after how this past year has probably been for the drakes.

    Send Help
My limited experience with carving knives.
I'm thinking if the builders were to get together and set up standards as for the size of their handles. Much as gloves or shoes sizes, it would help their customers to select a knife. Myself I'm a beginner who needs to buy without experience with each brand and model. I just tried a knife and ordered by mail waste my hobby funds buying a knife and a set of carving tools that hurts my hands now I need to invest more money still uncertain about the fit and I don't like returning stuff because of anything that isn't their poor quality issues
These tools are just gathering dust until I'll garage sale at my loss. Worst is I'll have to save back my money and again wait for delivery often weeks or months.

Yeah, that's frustrating, I'm sorry. I had a high quality, but not comfortable for me knife as one of my first purchases as well. One of my goals with these videos was to help people get a better sense of handle size and shape as it can be hard to tell from just pictures. There is a good aftermarket for most of these brands so you could try selling it and looking for something that's a better fit for you.
