The problem with camera reviews on popular TH-cam channels is that the reviewer doesn't understand the needs/wants of casual camera users. They think we care about micro hdmi and single card slots but 99% of us don't. They take small cameras and put massive heavy $1500 zoom lenses on which negates the main point of the design and which most of us would never shell out for.
@@KenseiAkatsu I personally have a Sony A7C paired with a 28-75mm f2.8, and my usage is pretty casual: every day photos and occasional professional photography. It’s just perfect for my kind of usage. My next lens would be a 24mm 2.8 and I am sorted!
@@KenseiAkatsu I think I would get this camera (or A7C) and a 28mm f2. I wouldn't use SLOG, I'm not bothered about 4k60. I want small and unobtrusive with great video AF. Maybe also get a zeiss 55mm 1.8 later on!
Not agree, some of us do care, no camera is perfect, and for the money we pay for these tool/toys they could be better. Sony has never listened to the users but they might listen to a TH-camr!🍻
Most people have a smartphone as a casual camera. My smartphone is a A7Cii with a 50mm 2.5 and the 28-60. I have it always with me in my pocket, when I go to work as a acountant, going shopping, playing with my kids, what ever I do. The little camera with the small gear is always with me. So I have always fullframe instead of a smartphone. I dont like making photos with a smartphone. Yes I have a A7RiV and a A9 with the bulky big lenses. But that is for "planned" time with my camera, when have a date with my gear. I am not a pro. Taking photos is my therapy. Yes the a7C-line makes not so much sense with a GM lens, or any "big" lens (big is bigger than a 28-60). For me the A7C-line is perfect. With a smartphone you dont have this fast and precise autofocus and the quality of the 50mm G 2.5 sharpness and bokeh. Many photos of my little daughter, who is very fast in moving, I could not make with a smartphone in the quality I get from the A7C ii.
For people who want a sony camera with their top tier autofocus that isn't ugly haha With the silver a7cii, 40mm 2.5 G, a square hood, the silver smallrig bottom plate, and a wrist strap I no longer have that pull to fuji/leica I did with my Canon. It just looks so much nicer to me than the other Sonys... Rangefinder style is also very comfortable imo, no nose squishing. But I do have tiny hands
Thank you for actually bringing up everyday uses and not jus listing the specs like every other youtuber who holds a camera. I'm contemplating getting the A7CII and these are the questions/comparisons people have and want. Would love to see your comparison with the S5IIX and why you thought it was better, keep up the good work!
Usually love your reviews but this seemed like a lot of effort put in with very little thought. Adding a small rig grip if needed depending on the lens. Using with a small prime lens. Taking advantage of the improved stabilization with a native Sony lens. The shutter sound is awful but also not really a point of failure. Also saying a $2200 camera is for beginners is kind of misleading. Then not knowing what your camera is capable of and assuming it has a full HDMI while being smaller than any other full frame out there seems out of character?.?.?.
I’m tattooer, use Sonys many years, and my work means regular work trips, so I just need cool quality of footage, light weight and versatility of my camera. Shooting photos and video it’s small part of our work, takes 30-40 min to compare 6-7 hour of main tatt work. In my opinion this Sony is about size, quality. For me very important is possibilities of raw color correction, and this camera gives me extremely freedom about reducing some parasite colors, redness, and also save me if I take photos in different light/background set ups, I always can make final loook of my work nice and similar to others mine.
I have a A7RV and G Master lenses, but I needed something small to carry when I am walking home from work, I carry the Sony FE 24mm F2.8 G and Sony FE 50mm F2.5 G for casual gear.
Just bought mine a couple of days ago. Upgraded from a7iii, so in regards of video it’s a big upgrade. Though raw images seem softer, even with more megapixels. Need to test more.
I had the A7iii and A7iv and wanted something smaller with similar or better capabilities and the A7cii does that. It excels at being one of the best hybrid, full-frame cameras. I’m seeing lots of video/photo TH-camrs using it and really liking it. The trend is to go smaller/lighter while staying high quality. It does video as well or better than the FX30, A7iv, and other similar options. The Sony ultra compact prime lenses area also perfect for this camera (24mm, 40mm, 50mm) as a travel/street setup. Oh and it doesn’t really have any overheating problems either. What’s not to like? 😎
10:20 Canon R6 - release date July 09, 2020. So Canon 4 years ago offered already Ai. Including it has Ai's Automatic object detection mode. In Sony A7c2 you have to manually do it - tell the camera who is in front of you - train, car, airplane, insect, bird, etc.... It's weird.
The A7Cii is meant for travel/street/etc. I have it and its wonderful camera as a 2nd camera to my A7RV. (BTW, the shutter sound is fake because its EFCS) I might add (that you might have missed) that its the only Sony camera (I think) to be able to shoot stills in a 2:35:1 aspect ratio (cinematic) or X-Pan like.
my biggest purchase intent is the S&Q feature: Will the finished slow motion file be saved in 4k? In short, do I have the finished slow motion file 4k60p on my memory card? without having to slow down in post
Yes but be aware that no audio will be captured when using the S&Q setting. Therefore I still prefer slowing down the footages on post so I don’t lose the audio.
It's a solid street and travel camera. It draws less attention to itself than say center prism body like the A7IV. Though agree the grip is too shallow. What's funny is it seems the A6700 team didn't share what they were doing with the AC team, completely different grip and top plate.
Thank you for the good video! :) In my case, the a7m4 was inconvenient to hold because my hands were small. For me like that, a7c2 was a good alternative.
Thanks for watching!! That's a variable opinion! Since my hands are big, its grip wasn't enough for me! But now I wanna try some small lenses on A7CII to see how they perform in a street style shooting !
In my opinion, fx30 is much better. Mainly because cause of the build quality, but as you said, the crop factor is the matter, so a7cii(FF camera) might be better if you really need wide angle like 18mm :)
I just purchased the A7C II upgrading from the A7II. I wanted upgraded features and a smaller form factor. This camera met those needs. I am not a professional so I don't need the dual card slots. I suppose if I were getting paid for my photos I would go for the A7IV or something higher end but this is right for me.
I am using my a7c for street, especially at night when zone focusing is not practical. I use it in a simple cage to get a better grip! In my opinion all of its shortcomings are intentional, Sony think, maybe rightly, that without the shortcomings it will undermine the sale of other lines! I don't care about its viewfinder because I don't use them, the LCD could be a lot better but haven't bothered me, no problem with the battery, I think it is way better than Fuji and Ricoh when it comes to battery life. The only thing that Sony should give us is two card slots, there is plenty of space in the camera for another card slot. I use the camera 99.999% for photography, once in blue moon I use it to get a 10s video! Happy with it? Yes! Could it be better? A fat yes!
Thank you Kensei! I'm completely lost in choosing my lightweight camera. Which one variant you prefer: sony a7iii+sigma 24-70 or sony a7Cii+sigma 28-70? I do more photo than video ❤
hello sir, good day.. i just want to ask if ever i would a7cii japanese release, can i use english firmware updatw to make it english? i dont know where to buy overseas version here in japan, particularly in fukuoka area.. sony store says they dont have camera stocks for english versions.. 😔

It depends on if you want to use if for video or photo. For photo, it's A7Cii any day. When using silent mode with my A7Cii which basically similar with how ZV-E1 taking pictures, occasionally some pictures may have annoying stripped due to artificial light.
@@kleec495 for sure, especially if you are shooting at low light. I should say if you use an electronic shutter during sunny days you end up with wrapping, a lot if you are panning, so it is good to have a 3 stops Nd filter with you if you want to use your lens wide open!
What I don't get is that the A7CII is basically the same price as the A7IV or R6 II (about $3000 cdn). I'd much rather get one of those cameras instead. Isn't the A7CII just a crippled A7IV?
Who cares what the shutter sounds like? That's arguably the LEAST important characteristic of a camera. The size of the box it ships in is maybe less important....
Sonys active steady mode works best with native glass. He states he’s using a Sigma which it still improves over just standard but big difference when using any native Sony lens.
