I once did this by accident, using the second method. Apparently I had been deleting and rebuilding station pieces during construction, and that somehow caused the game to see my long station as two separate stations. The trains would travel through the back part where the exit building was, stop at the front part with the entrance, find no available exit, and then just go again.
I discovered that booster glitch a while ago while experimenting with reverse incline coasters in RCT Classic. It’s amazing that so many years later we keep finding new things to do with these games.

Ah. RCT glitches discovered after 20 years. People are still discovering bugs. I suppose it is nice to know Chris Sawyer created a game so good people are playing it 20 years later.
The better a game is built, the more buggy it seems because more attention is paid to it over time to bring attention to these bugs It's like this weird survivorship bias thing that happens to good games and I love it

Could you set up the shuttle coaster in such a way that it goes _backwards_ forever? Using those peices that get more speed than they should and having the ride get pulled backwards, go through the station, go through some of those peices to gain excess speed, stall, go back through the peices, back through the station and over the lift hill then continue all the way round. I'm thinking the answer is probably no because going through those peices both forward and backward probably cancels out?
You can indeed make a coaster that goes backwards and completes the circuit, and while it will stop after two laps on reverse inclined mode, if you make it complete a lap backwards after a launch (in "powered launch (passing station)" mode) it will keep going around and around backwards forever!
Ride breakdown with station brake failure can also do it providing you refuse to fix it? Also is it possible to send a vehicle into the station so fast the station brakes fail to stop it?
Station brakes are not infinitely strong, so you can indeed overshoot them. A train going 300 km/h into a single station piece will do it, which is achievable with the twister coaster without cheats. When this happens the train will traverse the entire track at the "arriving at station" speed, no matter how much it goes up or down.

It's very easy to build a ride that goes on for infinite time, so that doesn't count. The longest ride has to be a ride that actually finishes at some point.
They must have fixed that bug for seperate station building with exit that isn't attached like you showed with the minetrain coaster because it didnt work for me in RCT Classic
I built one in Rainbow Summit and my park rating began a slow, steady decline after it started running. My guess is the negative thoughts of "I want to get off Guest Trap." Do have an effect.

You can also design your coaster to be so fast the station brakes fail to get the train to a standstill, which would be a 3rd way to trap guests.

I found a similar glitch in RCT3 with a transport train.
Maybe it’s another reason to revisit that game (among other game breaking mechanics).

RCT2 you can use block brakes with a high velocity. They are bugged and will actually launch you. At least last time I checked.
