  • The Porsche 911 is a justified legend in every generation of its form, but this 997.2 facelift model in Carrera S trim is hands down one of the most wonderful handling cars I have ever had the pleasure of driving.
    This, coupled with excellent engineering, strong performance even in Carrera trim, and very strong used values makes the facelift 997 Carrera S an outstanding choice of sports car.

    That 0-60 time of 4.5 sec is reserved for the manual gearbox. The PDK gearbox 0-60 is 4.3 secs!

    I purchased a 997.2 C4S Cabriolet 6 months ago and haven't yet stopped grinning. Still learning the car's handling limits and having great fun doing so. The handling is so much better than earlier 911s but I am still very aware of all that weight hanging off the rear. BTW, I completely agree with your opinion of the PDK. It's a superb transmission in normal mode for casual driving and and absolute beast in Sport Plus mode. I will gladly forego the "pure experience" of a manual transmission for perfect shifts from the PDK every time (and I'm pretty good at heel-and-toeing)!

    OK, I'll briefly opine my two cents: My '11 997.2 C2S PDK has turbo wheels and Sport Plus. It is totally blissfully addictive fun when I get on highways and I put it in Sport mode (after warming up teh flat six). Indeed, it does turn into Mr. Hyde in Sport mode. When I like to scare myself I move up to Sport Plus. I installed a German-made center bypass, and am thinking of deleting the side mufflers at some point (my neighbors will damn me to Hell at such point), and I've 5mm offsets up front, 10mm on the rears to give it that menacing look, 245s, 305s respectively. I love my 911.

      When you say turbo wheels do you mean the wider wheels that a turbo comes with? If so , how do they fit on your C2S car-any rubbing when going over bumps in the road?

    Brilliant review. Agree on all fronts. I Prefer 997.2 to my previous 911’s - and they were 991.1, 991.2 and 992 C4S models. 997.2 the best pick and amazing value for money.

      Ben Elliott For sure, 911’s hold good values basically across the board. Only one remotely ‘cheap’ in the UK is the 996 Carrera, and even that’s still around 10k minimum

    Normally when I here people complain about the 911, it's the car is TOO good. When you think of older Lamborghini's, and Ferrari's you think high strung, and hair trigger temperament, when you think Porsche you think mature, and to the point. The Italian cars are more play things, and the Porsche is more of a car.

    Great review mate. I'm about to get back into 911 ownership and it is whether I go 997 C2S or C4S. Any thoughts other than of course one is 4 wheel drive? Keep it up!

    • @HSGAutomotive
      @HSGAutomotive  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I honestly haven't driven them both, but I will almost always choose AWD when available. Its far more useful for real world driving. Better launch off the line, more grip at all times, better in all weather etc.

    • @dtschlack
      @dtschlack 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don’t confuse 4-wheel drive with AWD...4-wheel drive is more likely to be found in pickup trucks and large SUV's.

    • @41Forethought
      @41Forethought 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I prefer (and own) a C4S (2009). Aside from the obvious wet weather benefits, all wheel drive really improves initial turn-in and acceleration out of turns. The 4S is heavier than the 2S and I've found the entrance speeds, especially in sharp turns must be a bit lower. However, acceleration out of the turn can start earlier and with more power. You can really feel the electronic differential transferring power from rear to front in this situation.

  • @ak203
    @ak203 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a 2009 997.2 C4S and love it. Agree fully with the review -- the handling is a joy and the overall feel when driving it is a smile-producer. Mine is the cabriolet and since I don't live in the UK, it means that, even in the US Northeast, we get plenty of sunny days. And with an aftermarket windscreen we can drive comfortably with the top down into the mid-40s F.
    A great car, a go-kart level thrill for adults. Only gripe is that until about 4-5 years ago, Porsche did not know how to offer an aesthetically interesting interior. They are, well, a bit on the ugly side -- either insufferable (my opinion only) black or gray that can be oppressive on a cloudy day, or the monotonous beige that I have. Otherwise, what fun.

    • @HSGAutomotive
      @HSGAutomotive  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah their interiors have definitely gotten better over the past few years. The early 2000's are pretty unbearable to me, especially from something like a 996

    • @JoJoJoker
      @JoJoJoker 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Porsche being Porsche, most interiors are pretty boring but you’ll find some gorgeous examples where the original buyer spent a bunch on optional extras. A 997.2 with cocoa leather, painted trim, and carbon buckets is a nice place to sit.

  • @timedwards5856
    @timedwards5856 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This might be my dream attainable car. I feel like you could own this and not be terrified it'll blow up for no apparent reason plus with UK depreciation the prices arent the stuff of dreams. This or a 2006/7 Aston Martin V8 Vantage. Maybe one day......

    • @HSGAutomotive
      @HSGAutomotive  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve driven the 2014 Vantage and would recommend this over it tbh. In every way except the looks the Porsche is superior to me.

    • @markwaters7215
      @markwaters7215 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s interesting as I’ve said I just bought a 997.2 2009 but had always joked with my friends that one day I would buy an Aston Martin , I didn’t realise I could have bought one at the time. It’s because I always wanted a 911. When I’ve mentioned this everyone has said I’ve made the right decision as the build quality of the Aston’s seems to have dropped engine wise and interior wise. Still.....I would still have a db4 or a db5 ! But the Porsche would still beat them today. Horses for courses so they say. You still have to give it to the 911. Ps I haven’t driven the larger 991 or 992 but I think they would maybe feel less nimble. If my local dealer is ok with it I might try them out. Keep the reviews going . Regds m

    Awesome review man! I’m the same way that Porsche’s are not my go to’s but they live up to their names. In addition, the fact that it has 384 hp, the displacement is less than that of the Audi and it’s NA it’s something else. Yes the torque could be a deal breaker for some, I heavily agree with your review. Driving it myself I can vouch for what you’re saying.

    Regarding the statement in your Thumbnail: Wouldn't call anything a "pure experience" that is equipped with an Auto gearbox and could've had a manual. However still a great car and review!

    • @HSGAutomotive
      @HSGAutomotive  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There's nothing less pure about a well made automatic. The flawed logic of manuals arbitrarily being more pure falls apart as quickly as claiming that having a windshield is less pure because it ''helps you'' from weather.

    • @JoJoJoker
      @JoJoJoker 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yup. Not all manuals & automatics are made equal. Some people seem to act as if every manual is Ferrari with a gated shifter and every auto is a 3 speed Chrysler from the 1960s. I’d always choose a manual over a Tiptronic and PDK over a manual. Porsche made a Sport-O-Matic and that would be my choice!
