  • ☘The New Ngong Market with over 2500 traders is generating over 1 ton of waste daily and 0 waste is ending up at the #dumpsite.
☘The bulk of the #waste which is #organic is used for producing #biogas + #fertiliser.
The #plasticwaste and #glasswaste is crushed and used in making interlocking building blocks, what cannot be #recycled or recovered is then incinerated.
☘Zero waste goes to dumpsite in this #circulareconomy model.
🤝🏼This is thanks to the collaboration between the County Government of Kajiado and #flexibiogas.

One way to alleviate food waste and hunger is to have cooking farcilities at this markets akin to Asian street food stalls. The places can have sitting areas for people to eat their meals. The food will be pocket friendly since the gas is literally free and the produce for cooking is right there. Replicate this throughout the country. Farmers who do not have market for their produce can bring their produce to sell to these markets to be cooked. It should be no one will go hungry. In cases of drought and famine where people can not afford food the govt can issue food cards whereby people can go to these markets and buy meals. Street children can also be issued with meal cards. These cards can only be used to buy meals at the markets
