A Tirpitz player sailing in between two battleships is the WoWS equivalent of a KV-5 player finding himself at the top of the hill in Himmelsdorf...win or lose, it's going to be a glorious day!🤣🤣
No Jingles, the Scharnhorst was still not designed as a commerce raider she was designed to counter the french fast battleships. The they planned to fit the bigger 380 mm guns at a later date, which were still in development at the time, but that never materialized. Gneisenau was also never fitted with her 380 mm guns IRL. They employed her as a commerce raider because they had no other productive task for her, given how outnumbered the Kriegsmarine was.
Technically Bismarck and Tirpitz were commerce raiders, Hitler planned to deploy them into the North Atlantic to raid British convoys. That was how Hood and PoW encountered her to begin with. Tirpitz never saw real combat, though she was responsible for scattering a convoy because the British commander panicked.
I am not gonna say I do not roll my eyes on 7.624th time you introduce Sharnhorst, but I do still watch your vids every day :) Love you old man, take care of yourself
Every once in a while, when people play their german bb's too sensibly, jingles just drops a german bb torpedo video and hops away cackling at the mayhem of weeks of bb captains playing like dd's.
A bit quick but fun to watch especially the end 😂 And it is high time to earn my extra shifts for today: 5:00 "I'm pretty sure that were some torpedoes from the Chumphon there" as Lord Quack's torpedoes slam into the wreck of the Gallant. EDIT: I just read the description of this video 🤣🤣
jingles, the scharnhorst 43 wasnt a concept, the scharnhorst survived until boxingday 1943, the scharnhorst 43 is the version of the sharnhorst that decorates the bottom of the atlantic off the coast of the north cape
I will always like the Shiny Horse and I prefer the description of the Scharnhorst below over anyone elses. "The Scharnhorst is a Tier VII Premium German ship that earns the reputation by being literally everything!"
This sacrifice-yourself-to-get-two-successful-torpedo-attacks bit was originally performed by the Pegasus in the original Battlestar Galactica TV series which first aired in 1978. Look for the episode named "Living Legend." The ship cruises between two Cylon base stations which are bearing down on the fleeing humans and under tremendous fire launches a salvo of missiles from each side destroying the two base stations and clearing the way for Galactica to escape with the fugitive human fleet.
Wrt, the origin of the Scharnhorst class: They were a sort of continuation of the Deutschlands. Germany was building against France and France circa 1930 had slow BB and not well armored CA. The pocket BB was fine, or seemed so. Next up, an improved version of it, the Panzerschiff D. But oh crap, the Dunkirk class. Very clearly pocket BB killers. So Germany went to building full battleships, with the most powerful guns at hand. That just happened to be the improved 11". Where's Britain in all of this? Not on Germany's radar because building against France. The Royal Navy had three to for battlecruisers that could easily enter and win a stand up fight.
As much as Jingles likes to rag on the Gneisenau, I will say that I've done pretty well with it in various battles, and yes, the torpedoes are a nice thing when the enemy player forgets that it has them.
I got the Tirpitz right when it came out. No one expected battleships with torpedoes back then. An opponent destroyer charged in through a smokescreen figuring aha he's got me, only to take two torpedoes in his face. My team erupted in Lol's.
signature move - lol that's a good one When i first laid my hands on the Atago, back in 2015/2016ish.. i was stupid enough to not know what a Yamato could do. So i charged 2 Yamatos, that were sailing side by side on the Iceberg map. the slapped me hard, but i survived long enought o get between them and fire all of my launchers - 2 per side - at them killing them both (they weren't full health, and got shot at by pretty much everything our team had back then). Wouldn't dare that today -but back then i had no idea :D and it was glorious
Fair fight comment... I've been doing martial arts for 40 years plus and I have a saying to my students. "If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics sucks". :-)
Things that Sharnhorst and Gneisenau forgot about in the "designed for raiding north atlantic convoys and running away from any battleship" - Firstly keeping the water on the outside - they were terrible sea boats. Secondly HMS Hood, HMS Repulse and HMS Renown..... one of which would see the two of them off in World War 2... in WoWs they're underpowered of course. Vicotry was claimed by the dd being sunk in the south by the way :-)!
Actually Jingles, I have managed to pull the two side double torpedo kill, with a Hipper in all things, back when I have still played about 6-7 years ago. Bring on the shotgun :D
It has the benefit of being "Not what He Is Supposed To Do!". Takes guys by surprise some times. You said it, doesn't he have a nice safe island? Sure but that's not where the exp, credits and maybe most importantly the Glory is.
Jingles, I was yesterday in tirpitz museum in alta Norway. Amazing to see the relics and old photographs. And there was a picture on sharnhorst, taken from battleship tirpitz. It stood labeled as. - last known picture of battleship sharnhorst.
Ah, I remember back... 7 or 8 years ago when I was new and found myself very surprised by getting torpedoed by a battleship. Nowadays... you need to expect every ship you've never heard of before to have torpedoes, radar, smokescreen, hydro, and reload boosters. It doesn't matter what class of ship, if you don't know what it is, just assume it has all of that.
I'd be willing to bet the reason the player names have been so good recently is there's been a lot of NA server replays. The NA Server has some of the best player names in any game I've ever played.
The Gneisenau isn’t even bad. It’s a fun ship to play I find. Yes it’s inaccurate to a degree but it has a fast reload, the ship itself manoeuvres well it’s got toros and secondaries. It’s one of my favourite Tier 7
The torpedo rush is dangerous, because these stupid launchers get disabled or destroyed all the time. When you try this move there is a high chance you won't have any torpedoes anymore once you're close enough. And thenyou just die like a fool.
In this T6-7 ranked i have come to like Graf Spee. Had a really fun game yesterday, where i chased a Nelson around an Island on Ring (we where the last two ships) I got 25k hp, he had 2300, so the pocket batleship got to chase the real batleship. Yeah i got him.. to slow and to poor amored to resist 11" AP
I am never gonna not argue that the Gneisenau is still the best T7 BB, and all T7 and 9 Ships have always been nought but mediocre at best. The Gneisenau is pretty good, and so is the Scharnhorst. It´s all about knowing what your ship is good at and what situations to create for yourself. And then just go for it. The amount of times i´ve seen BBs underestimating a cruiser and just getting slaughtered by the DPM after failing to quickly dispatch it as they hoped is mindboggling.
A Tirpitz player sailing in between two battleships is the WoWS equivalent of a KV-5 player finding himself at the top of the hill in Himmelsdorf...win or lose, it's going to be a glorious day!🤣🤣
Been there, done that, and yes it was glorious. Especially when my friend and I went up that hill both in KV-5's. 😂
Those KV5 videos are almost a decade old
On a lower tier, Me in my Agincourt sailing in between two enemy battleships, secondaries hammering away, not even bothering to fire my main battery.

HMS Hood, HMS Repulse, and HMS Renown entered the chat
Renown made them absolutely cry
By the end of 1941 two of those ships decorated the bottom of the ocean while Scharnhorst and Gneisenau happily sailed on for a time.
@Ushio01 yeah, and the one that made them absolutely cry was still trying to make them cry.
