It's a combo of several game mechanics - arming threshold and fuze time. All AP shells must meet a minimum armor thickness to even start the detonation sequence, after which the fuze time is how quickly the shell explodes after being armed. If a shell doesn't arm it goes straight through as an overpen. Even if a shell arms, you might still get an overpen because the fuze time is too long and/or your shells are too fast, causing the shell to exit the ship and then explode. _Smolensk_ has a 70 mm citadel armor belt. The French 431 mm guns arm on 72 mm plating. Most large caliber battleships are literally unable to arm their AP on a flat broadside _Smolensk_ at all. You can HE citadel a _Smolensk_ with enough HE pen or take a riskier option and dunk your high caliber AP shells into the waterline to arm them and hope some of the shells reach the citadel.

A Massachusetts would probably be a menace to this thing.
AP can citadel the Smolensk from the side, just need to aim at the water to cause the shell to arm prior to hitting the ship
Admiral Klutchnetzov saves the day again, Komrade.
Not many videos I normally watch twice and this one I did! What a chad!
Good job, Jingles!
actually jingles, his health were at 416 before the emergence talent kicks in. 😉
Jingles writing this title 🔥🔥✍🔥🔥
That Shimakaze switching to AP nearly got them the win
AP from a DD on the side of a light cruiser is so satisfyingly, the frenchies are the best at it but Shima guns hurt if they are used...
He was the MVP on the enemy team, played as well as he could. Didn't really make any errors either, that last fight should have been a dead Smolensk
That is one hell of a performance!
Aw yeah I love some lovely Jingles commentary.
The Gigachad of Gigachad. Talk about a paddling
Extremely well played from the start by Commodere Pixel here, methinks. Very good positioning, proper target choice, impressive shooting... Congratulations, great game.
hate to say it but if the ruprecht knew how to fight a smolensk he would have been dead right then.
Of course. An OP Light crur!
Smolensk implies the existence of a larger, more powerful Ensk. CMV.
Beegensk
Thiccensk
It just amazes me, that Jingles, being confronted with weeb culture for so long, still pronounces the Japanese ships with English "e" at the end instead of dEad "e", as it should be.
My clanmates are in this battle (TO30 "Thrown Overboard"), I'm in TO 31
When you are a Smolensk, everything is a Worcester
Congratulations jingles ! No Brest jokes👋 well done
Who knew, broken ship is broken
"... can absolutely Roon your day." What you did there? I seen it.
Actually, that enemy Musashi was fairly useless for most of the battle.
He started kiting away to the eastern side of the map at about the 5 minute mark and didn't get involved again until right towards the end. He didn't finish very high up on his teams list.
Plus, grounding himself right in front of a ship armed with torpedoes didn't show a great amount of situational awareness.
Ah a good old fashioned WOW game with minimum gimmicks, irrelevant subs, no CVs, some good players on both teams, and actual fun gameplay. Sooooo rare to see these anymore.
Tonight!
A Smolensk trolls some AP shells.
Shimakazes use their guns.
And any cruiser that is not a Smolensk or Brest, is a Worcester!
Clickbait is clickbait, it's you we love Jingles :)
Lovely pair of brests on Commodore's team.
Pardon me while I take a shower after experiencing that absolute filth
Jingles the Shimakaze was at less than 3k hp at 5:38 way before he ran into the Halland.
Lol you can't expect Jingles to commentate correctly, he only watches the video a couple times before he does the commentary!
Lol real talk though it's insane the amount of mistakes Jingles makes when doing voiceovers.
@@Joze1090 Oh I no but it's traditional to point them out!
@@Ushio01 I was being sarcastic lol, he really shouldn't make some of the mistakes he does 😂 but he's Jingles so we still love him :)
I had a 86% kill rate on my cleveland light cruiser in the 726 matches i played with it. It was my fireship.
Cleveland can be a fire beast. It’s a great light cruiser! o7
I see the title and instantly think “If an Aussie is not involved in this video somehow, either as captain or the ship, this is cultural appropriation.”
Thanks Jingles
17:32 Hey! Us HE spamming battleship captains have feelings.
But not much brains judging by the average Thunderer players.
Excellent vid as always sir, however I have always heard that sub pronounced 'Ba-lay-oh'. And this is not a dig at the 'same ole Jingles misnaming ships, just informing.
You OK Jingles? Commodore Pixel's team had a pair of Brests and you didn't make one single joke about it? 😂
Spinning the knife in the wound... no Smolensk here. Same day...
Oh, you can absolutely annihilate the Smolensk, but with Conqueror or Thunderer HE. It’s hilarious.
So shima is now a submarine in jingles land, okey noted. And I’m not even going to comment on the wuster debacle. Sometimes I wonder if he actually commenting some other replay than the one we see.
Gigachad, jingles never change🤣
I love the guy commenting at the end who says he’s throwing the game but just ends with “Wow”. Awesome humble pie.
i can understand that worchester too...i like to focus my fire on the brest too
Great example of Soviet bias Wargaming is riding since the day one. Nevermind new "HQ" in Vilnius - nothing have changed.
"The charge of the giga chad light cruiser brigade" 😂
I like how jingles can't differ between a minotaur and a worcester...
That was pretty intense!!!
YES.... Fear The GIGACHAD..... (Insert maniacal laugh here!) 🤣😂🤣😂
Almost had a wild game of throws yesterday, although it was only in the first half, after that it calmed down and was pretty much a normal match
Good finish
