great choice for engineering students that want a good all-rounder that can game and run any simulations they need whilst still having good, usable battery life for everyday tasks (and the ability to top up via usb-c). that's what i got it for. obviously it's not the best price-performance and you could get better cooling in a thicker chassis, but for me the portability and build quality is absolutely worth it. was gonna go for the g14 but i found it was just too small for my personal tastes. in terms of build quality this genuinely reminds me of a macbook, and the look is very clean and understated.
I'm still waiting for someone to make a full in depth review of the Legion 5 Slim, both the Intel and AMD version of it, specifically the RTX4060 variant. Looking forward to see the performance of the Ryzen 7 7840HS.

Picked one up this week. Blows my 2019 razer 15 out of the water. The screen, build quility, speed. Excellent laptop, very happy with my purchase. Highly recommend.
Would a good external cooler base help a lot?
Always have a bit issue with soldered RAM. Otherwise for the power, thinness and weight it's one of the best. Not much to complain about.
At least they have an open slot for adding RAM. That's a plus.
This time it's 16GB soldered, good to begin with. Another slot to add extra.
@@bryans8656 yup, and the soldered ram is 16gb rather than 8gb soldered and an 8gb stick. far more acceptable to me.

I love the fact that you have a "Mozilla Firefox compilation" in your benchmark. It's the most useful bench mark for me as a programmer. Well I'm waiting for the test of the legion slim 5 with ryzen processors in that kind of tasks.

Have to decide between this and the msi studio stealth 16. Any advice?
I picked one up a few weeks ago, and I love this purchase. The cpu and gpu can run a bit hot, but the chassis is rarely too warm (you can always customize fan curves if that’s an issue). But it’s still excellent for what it offers. It’s joy to type on for productivity purposes and I got the higher resolution screen which has been fabulous. It’s also surprisingly light for what it’s packing which is perfect since I’m usually carrying it around in my backpack
Overall I’d say it’s certainly a bit of a compromise on performance, but it just does everything else so well that I can’t help but love it regardless
What's the battery life for productivity work like browsing, word, and excel?
@@presymarauder if I’m in hybrid mode and not even power saving i get like 6 hours. I could easily see it young to 8 in low power mode
One more question (and sorry for bugging you). Did you purchase this laptop in India? If so, how long did it take to get delivered? I ordered mine yesterday and initially it showed 6 weeks, now someone from Lenovo said it is likely to be 10 weeks. Is this normal? I did customize it to i-9, 4070 RTX, 32 GB and 1 TB
@@presymarauder No worries at all. I am actually in the US, but it shipped form China anyways. It initially said it would come in 2 weeks, but took closer to 4 before it actually delivered
hello, i',m a design student and i'm finding a good laptop for my education,game & freelance purpose, i'm working on 3d modeling, and quiet likely to playing some game, is it (legion 7 slim) enough for all of this? (i'm prefer to choose laptop than pc because i can carry the laptop everywhere even when i'm going to the campus/another workspace)
Just picked it up a couple of days ago. i9 and 4070 with 32 gigs ram. Been fabulous so far
Are there any issues a potential buyer should know about?
Heating is one of the obvious issue I also got an I9, 4070 with 32gb. if you want way more good laptop you can choose to acer or asus but if you are just like me that just want a legion as a brand i say go for it lols
@johnespanolavideoediting4688 maxed every setting on cyberpunk, highest temp i got was 76 degrees on my legion pro 7i, that too with around 90+ fps in the benchmark.

Between this and Alienware m16 4070, which one would you recommend? Better thermal and gaming performance. Size is not the primary concern. Price is currently almost similar.
I think you may need to tweak some setting because I have the legion 7 from 22 with 6850 and I get 100 fps in that resolution native . 150s with fsr 2.1.
Can you compare it to the slim pro 9i 16? (aka yoga pro 9i 16)?

I got my first legion Y520 lapto in 2017 and he's a tank, it's just work great until now. Seeing this review make me wanted to buy it, but don't have a reason to do that 😂
I have a 2017 legion too. However I can't call the GTX 1050ti a tank anymore 😂. Will be upgrading probably to a legion pro 5i this year with an rtx 4060.
What would the downside be of putting 48 GB of DDR5 RAM in that single slot = 64gb total. Would it run in single channel mode or something like that? Would it even support 48GB of RAM?
Am I the only one who loves the design EXCEPT those arrow keys that stick out and key cap shape overall? Kind of kills the look.
I tried out this version with a 4060. The weight and size were too big for me especially the massive power brick I couldn't see myself carrying this thing around in my bag all the time. The battery life was also pretty terrible compared to the G14 and X13 I tried. Amazing build quality though Lenovo kills it in that department.
This seems like one of the lighter 16 inch out there. Have you try the m16 instead?
in fact you can use pd charger, its much lighter than 230w charger
the m16 brick & laptop are heavier than this XD, although it's dimensions are smaller

This is way way late, but with the latest BIOS my battery life went from about 2 hours gaming, 6 hours productivity to double that at 4 hours gaming, 9-10 productivity.
Man the 2023 legion slim 7i looks better than '23 legion 7i and 5 pro model. Lenovo should've made 7i look similar
Just bought this laptop and now I'm waiting to get it. I got the i9-13900H with an RTX 4070. It's an upgrade from the Origin 16-S I have which been BSOD.

Excellent video I need an opinion on a laptop, the 4070 gpu is better than the 4060, the 4070 being $250 more expensive, The temperatures and the battery are better in the new HP OMEN TRANSCEND of the construction I don't know if it is as good as the Lenovo, but I think the construction of the HP is good, I have seen sometimes some defects in Lenovo laptops

Never buy the i9 which is way too tamed and you will never see its true potential in a thin laptop like this so it'd be a waste of money. Even better is the newly released AMD version!
i got the i7 model and in cb R23 the multithread score just 1k lower than i9 (18,4k in my i7-13700h). it's only 2cm chassis and i think you better go with 13700h or 7840hs

Just a note, the G14 that is $799 is not last years model, its the 2021. the 2022 is all ryzen and the current model has a 40 series gpu. Still a good deal, but yeah, $799 is two years old

@@dennisthewalker A lot of GF63s, Nitro 5s, Victus and TUFs, base-tier Helios 300s and Legion 5s. But sometimes you do get to see M16s, Scars, Legion 7s.
@@casperellison5729 legion 5 slim could be a good option, if you want that portability. Stay away from the GF63 tho haha. I saw it at a store, and the build quality is just atrocious.

I'm in between getting the same spec legion slim 7i or asus zephyrus m16 (also with the same specs) for about the same price. Which one would you recommend?
personally went for slim 7i for build quality and qc concerns but both are great options. i just know the zephyrus line has had some pretty prevalent qc issues even with last year's model so as a college student i just wanted to save myself the headache.
The stickers alignment is a deal breaker for me

One thing i hate about lenovo laptops is the off centre trackpad placement. It is so damn annoying because u get lesser space for arm rest on right side and also end up with accidental clicks while typing. i would gladly trade the full size arrow key for a centred track pad .
But if the track pad is in the center then when you place your right hand on the natural keyboard hand placement it will cover the track pad. The track pad should be placed under the space bar no matter what.

ya placement is bad on the i7. entire trackpad is functional but very bad for many many reason

my only main issue is the heat even when not gaming, i feel like its too hot especially under the surface of the laptop when in use.
try using custom mode with fans always spinning at 1800rpm, i do the same and it remains cool. You can also reduce the wattage for cpu and gpu in custom mode.
I always get rid of these nasty stickers after the purchase so that it doesn't leave glue stains on the laptop, usually move them to the back panel. XD And it makes the laptop looks clean.

Ryzen HX in my Slim 7 was just horrible - hot laptop, loud fans, poor battery. I had to limit CPU power and ramp up fans to make it usable. Traded it in less than 2 months. I think 5800U had better performance and I was more satisfied with that than HX
what about the HS would that also have the issues you had?
ive already bought it, it has strange noise, it sounds like electric spark. Although its not loud, its really annying

no it is not possible, but crucial do sell a 48gb ram stick, that you could put on this laptop to get 64gb ram

Can you pls help me choose between
1)legion slim 7 (i7, RTX 4060, $1,800),
2)Zephyrus G15 2022 (i7 12th gen, RTX 3060, $1,600).
I am leaning more towards legion slim 7 because of the more solid build quality, clean look, better customer support (in my country), better display.
But still confused because the Zephyrus G15 is still more than capable for my tasks, is lighter and usually goes on sale, being a year old I can probably grab it for 1,400-1,500 bucks.
According to you which one will better for me. My priority is build quality, customer support, display, battery, keyboard and trackpad but price is a major deciding factor between the three.
So is Lenovo worth the extra 300 bucks and which one has a better battery life, trackpad and keyboard?

These two laptop omen trencend 16 and the asus m16 is pretty in the same league. All rocking i7 or i9 h/hx processor with 120+ wah 4060/4070, almost the same weight. Only differences, consider battery wattages (Max 99.9), do you need a num pad, screens like brightness (usually 500nits) color accuracy, upgradability. Can you double-check the actual weight of the laptop (only) on a kitchen scale? I've seen an earlier model weigh closer to 4.8lbs, and am curious if the actual production model matches the advertised weight. Lenovo sometimes understates the weight of their laptops.
Just checked for you now.. Definitely heavier than advertised. It weighed 4.71 lbs
@@MatthewMonizhat sounds right! I purchased a 2022 legion slim 7 and upgraded its battery to 99.99Wh. The weight after upgrade was 2.19kg coz it has an additional RAM. But your model has only 16gb soldered RAM so around 50 grams lighter.

@@rigvedrai5612 You can but I would not recommended and having higher wattage looks like doesn't make a big different in performance. I would just recommend turn on performance mode and use 4070 optimist to get the best frames.

Modern U-series from Intel works fine for a student learning web development and for learning basics of OOP, RDBMS and so on. But do try for the Intel 1260p that’s present on notebooks like the Galaxy Book Ultra or other thin and lights with a decent screen and good battery if you’re a student. Opt for the Iris Xe with the higher MB or upto a xx50/xx60, and if affordable then just go balls out with the xx70.

Struggling to choose between Legion Slim 7i and Macbook m2 pro 14. Both are same price in India, but Macbook has double the battery life but Legion can game. Ive not played many games in the past yr or 2 but i would love to experience the excitement of trying a new game again. AC Mirage, Hogwarts Legacy, Elden Ring, Spider man Miles Morales and 2, Titanfall 2, Jagged Alliance 3, of course the classic AOE 2 and 3 DE. I wanna experience it all. I can try most of them in macbook using Rosetta or Parallels, but its not gonna play too well. It however has almost 15 hrs of battery life. Legion slim 7i on paper has 12, but most reviewers put it closer to 7-8. Build quality wise both look gorgeous. Weight wise, macbook pro 14 is close to 800 grams lighter, and macbook 16 is closer to this. If heating is a serious issue, then no point in getting this laptop for gaming. Might as well get Macbook pro for its battery life
Get the MacBook and a XBOX series S for gaming

If you want to game I think you should just get a windows gaming laptop that has portability in mind, it's just better for that and all around a good performer in different productivity apps. MacBook on one hand have good battery life but honestly tho it really only works with Adobe and apple own productivity apps. Other apps will still drain it. Plus a bigger screen is just better, 16 inch 16:10 is the new standard. 😅
M2 pro 14 is the same price as slim 7i since when?
@@abhishekshah11 Just enquired both last week. Macbook pro m2 14 inch with 16 GB Ram, and 512 GB SDD costs 1,99,000 Rs. Legion Slim 7i with i-9 processor, 1 TB SSD, 32 GB Ram, RTX 4070 8 GB VRAM, costs 2,03,000 Rs. Obviously chose the latter as it was a better deal for the price, not to mention you also get a Legion bag worth 3k with it, as well has heavy discounts for their mouse, and headphones. And certain banks offer 5k discount for both products.
