You did a very well job of explaining the job. The only thing worth adding. Is be very careful. Especially if you have never pulled a tranny. When it goes back in. Get your bellhousing bolts in loosely and make sure the trans is tight against the motor and that your torque converter spins easy. If it does then tighten the bellhousing bolts. If it doesn't spin. This is where you wanna be very careful. Drop the tranny out again and spin the torque converter with pressure against it. And you'll hear it clunk in. Usually the tranny shop bolts a hold down in place. That prevents this. If you ignore this you most likely will bust your pump. And then there goes some more money and it's gotta come out again.
Thank you guys so so much. You covered almost every problem I ran into. I had rusted fuel lines. Now if you guys can only send me a few days of warm weather.
Great video again, the removal video really helped a lot. It took me 2.5 hours to pull the transmission, putting it back together tomorrow! Thanks for the clear explanations!
this video and the tear down video was awesome! you guys did a great job on them! i couldnt have done my rear main seal on a 06 sierra 4wd without them! i wish you guys would have spent a little more time on the electrical plugs but i think i figured mine out. again! thank you! i did my job completely by myself. and the transfer case was no joke! thanks for the heads up on that one! keep up the good work fellas!!! 👍👍👍
That’s great, glad to hear it was helpful for you. It was difficult to record the electrical plugs with the minimal room. If you have any questions feel free to ask🤙
This video bro is very informative. I have to help do this with my boss's mechanic buddy on a 02 Silverado it needs transmission bad it has barely any 3rd gear and four gear left. Thanks for the very easy to follow video. Take care peace out.
I'm a buck 60 and dropped my first ever transmission single handedly. Had issues with o2 sensor on passenger side to get exhaust off. Eventually I got the dang thing off. Will try installing new one on my own soon. Unsure of fluid levels though
Just a little tip when your reinstalling the transmission dont put in the lower bell housing bolts till the tops are in 1st this way you prevent pulling the rear main out of place and causing a leak .
I do have a question I have a wire harness that goes down the left side driver side of my transmission it has a torque bit or something on the top is that easy to remove when I start dropping the transmission? How much fluid do I put in a torque converter on a rebuilt transmission? Thanks your video was a lot more informative. Thanks
You should be able to undo the bolt with transmission still in but if not, you can when the transmission is dropped down a little bit. Put just enough fluid in the converter that fluid won’t come out when it’s on its side to install into transmission.
Can't get the torque converter bolts off. Hex head and all are round heads. Put penetrating oil and the impact on it. Won't budge. Any ideas, tips. Etc.
For anyone that is struggling with the torque converter bolts some heat made all the difference for me, they wouldn't budge with a breaker bar and Allen socket so we stopped and put the torch to them for 20 seconds or so and they came right out
Love the vid. I'll probably have to replace my 03 Avalanche 4L60E or rebuild but if I get a new one and install it do I have to re-encode the VCM? if so is this something backyard mechanic can do?
This video was a great help for me! but i noticed you didn't mention flushing the lines. my fluid was really nasty and smelled bad..i stumbled across flushing lines. due to the size of this project you really should dont you think? or you think the fliter will take care of it?
I would have pre-filled the transfer case before re-installing it. Question what position did you shift the gears in before removing the old transmission. I have a 4L60E but with drive by wire set up.
It would’ve leaked out of the tail shaft if it had fluid in it before re installing it. The one in the video is a drive by wire, I had it in park when I pulled it out but just make sure it’s out of park, like neutral, so you can spin the driveline so you can line it up with the u joints on the rear end.
I just installed a new transmission and it takes a while for it to respond i dont know if the transmission thats bad or i just need to use and use it for it to break in any idea whats going on?
Great question Glory! The 99-00 4L60 should have the same bell housing. As long as you’re 100% it’s a 4L60e and not a 4L65e transmission, the bolt on bell housing started in 96 and in 98 went to a 300mm torque converter. The 4L65e was phased in in 01 with the 6.0 liter (RPO M32). So if you have a 96-00 4L60e transmission all bell housing are interchangeable.
Not sure if anyone will be seeing this, however does any one know the part number for the transfer case studs. My old man is trying to put his truck back together and needs new ones.
Took 2.5 hours with a hoist and every tool imaginable, I'm not a mechanic but have fooled around with vehicles quite a bit. I'd say 4 hours or less if you reference the removal video

You can tell dude really is a master mechanic. Super smart.
Having a 3” body lift exposes all the bolts on top. Made things a lot easier.
Love the detailed information. Thanks.
Thank you guys so so much. You covered almost every problem I ran into. I had rusted fuel lines. Now if you guys can only send me a few days of warm weather.
Glad it helped you. I wish the Southern California weather could be anywhere in the world. Stay warm.

Holy moly bro. I carried that transfer case a good 30Ft and you picked it up like it was water😮
He made it look so easy, it took me three attempts just to get it up myself then I had to align the bolts with my knee and hands😂

You guys did a great job awesome job learning a lot from you guys

Thanks for the two videos Great. I need to see a video how you rebuilt your transmission
Impressive knowledge and ability.
Dang John, you went Mongo style on that transfer case!
Just a little tip when your reinstalling the transmission dont put in the lower bell housing bolts till the tops are in 1st this way you prevent pulling the rear main out of place and causing a leak .
Thank you so much for these 2 videos great explanation
you covered every base !!!! nice video i hit the like !!
Thank you
Nice job great video thx for the imfo. Going to be doing a rear main seal if its not raining.
I always throw the Brackets away and just zip tie it and exhaust y- pipe I cut it and weld it back on later lol
You saved my tail. Mine just went bad yesterday. Taking it out as I watch your video right now. Liked and subbed
It's Jim Caviezel!
You guys are awesome thanks man
Now im youtube certified
Nooooo I’m certified. Have the sticker

Put just enough fluid in the converter that fluid won’t come out when it’s on its side to install into transmission.
Thank you I appreciate the quick response back it's going to be the first time I'm doing a transmission on my truck
Most helpful video on TH-cam
Thank you so much for this.
Thanks , informative straight forward
Thanks 🙏.
i dont think a teacher could've explained it better well done
We appreciate it👌
Can't get the torque converter bolts off. Hex head and all are round heads. Put penetrating oil and the impact on it. Won't budge. Any ideas, tips. Etc.
You’re in pretty deep water. It would be difficult to explain over a comment, but you would need to use an extracter tool to remove it.
@@ZHPGarage appreciate the response
For anyone that is struggling with the torque converter bolts some heat made all the difference for me, they wouldn't budge with a breaker bar and Allen socket so we stopped and put the torch to them for 20 seconds or so and they came right out
Your my hero

No you don’t have to do any flashing or programming when rebuilding or replacing a 4L60E. Thank you for inquiring.
Thanks. How much oil needs the transmission?
This video was a great help for me! but i noticed you didn't mention flushing the lines. my fluid was really nasty and smelled bad..i stumbled across flushing lines. due to the size of this project you really should dont you think? or you think the fliter will take care of it?
Isn't the Transfer Case fluid supposed to be the blue Auto Trac II fluid? What you put in was red/pink...
If you have an auto transfer case, yes it’s the Auto Trac II. This one was a manual transfer case.
@@ZHPGarage Oh yeah!! He even mentioned that in the video as he was unhooking the linkage. *facepalm*
I would have pre-filled the transfer case before re-installing it. Question what position did you shift the gears in before removing the old transmission. I have a 4L60E but with drive by wire set up.

2000 silverado, would u happen to know if the transmission needs programming after new install?
Did you guys have to ,flash ecm and re calibrate anything?thanks in advance
Did your truck have the 4 wheel auto and then the 2wheal then 4highe and 4 low. Does it matter about the trany type
It was a manual transfer case and it doesn’t differ too much between an auto or manual one with removing and reinstalling.
what does that transfer case weigh?
What was the repair time to do this job?
If i have a 4l60e and wanted a 4l65e or 80 what conversion kit do i need ???
If I couldn’t remove the exhaust it is posible to remove the transmission?
Anything is possible but it’d be very difficult to get it out and a lot of things would get damaged.
Ayo bro you still live in vista? That’s where I’m from 😂 and wanted to know if he can swap my transmission
Yeah we still live in Vista
Do you put converter bolts first
You need to show wiring stuff back up better next time
Yeah, ran short on time so had to speed through it
I just installed a new transmission and it takes a while for it to respond i dont know if the transmission thats bad or i just need to use and use it for it to break in any idea whats going on?
What are the torque specs for the flex plate?
lube the converter snout !!!
Can I just trade the bellhousing from a 99 to a 2000 4l60?
Great question Glory! The 99-00 4L60 should have the same bell housing. How did y'all get the transmission to mate with engine
Line up dowels and just push it on. If everything is lined up it'll just kinda pop in place
Question ? It won’t work for a 09?
So it should be the same for a 2006 Silverado 1500 z71
Should be, only difference would be if it’s 2WD instead of 4WD. Then there would be no transfer case or front driveline.
My dam transmission dipstick tube fell out how to I reroute the tube the transmission is already in just need to put the dipstick tube back on
Did you figure this out
Yes it was hell but I finally got it back in where it's sopost to go
Where is the installation??
Are you guys are in Texas
We aren't
How long should it take a non mechanic to take out a transmission like this?
Took 2.5 hours with a hoist and every tool imaginable, I'm not a mechanic but have fooled around with vehicles quite a bit. I'd say 4 hours or less if you reference the removal video
Bro I really need help if you can respond
Can I just send you my transmission?
Can you come do my transmission for me??? Please?? 😔
Could have been more detailed, better camera angles as well.
