@Ajunkman to many car problems, I got a reman AAMCO trans paid extra for 3 yr unlimited mile warranty for $3000 a yr later it failed, brought it back and reluctantly replaced which I'm assuming was just rebuilt real quick and new transmission was kept, but the truck really didn't shift right, brought it back almost another year and new owner same AAMCO location wouldn't honor the contract warranty,. Small claims wouldn't hold him liable because he wasn't the original owner, and then AAMCO refused to honor the warranty all together, so out of a truck, work, and 3 bands... So just like construction I'll do it myself then... So I'm trying to get more involved in mechanics, I come from it, it's in my DNA, but turned off by that uncle who makes you hold the light, and grab all the tools as a kid, I never wanted it, but hindsight is a bish 😂 So yeah...
It usually takes me around 1.5-2 hours at a easy pace, just pulled the 4L60 out of my truck this morning for a overhaul and to clean and repaint the frame since its getting a bit nasty under there as i saw today.
I started my wrenching career in the early 90's at a transmission shop. Our lead R and R tech was fast. Of course we had lifts and transmission jacks. He had just installed a rebuilt 700R4 into a 2wd Chevy truck, probably like a 1988 model or close to it. Well the trashy rebuilt convertors they had us using were just garbage and he had to swap torque convertors. Owner challenged him to beat his previous record of swapping convertors in 10 mins. with the vehicle set on the lift and raised up already the stop watch was started and would not stop until it was on the ground. 9 minutes flat he had a new torque convertor installed.
I really recommend using a strap to catch the transmission before it hits the converter snout. I had a minty 4l80e crack the case hitting the nub, but luckily only $80 to reweld it. If it was a northern truck/suv, it would be 68min minimum. Most bolts, including those in blind holes, will be rusty & stuck - one will certainly take as long as this whole video. You'll be better off cutting the driveshaft than deal with the u-joint bolts. If you're lucky, the mount bolts will just snap. Same for the crossmember bolts, but chances are you'll just be using a whole high-torq's battery on those after cracking them loose with a breaker+cheater bar. The upper 13mm bolts on the bellhousing studs will just spin, assuming the 2ft extension can x-fer enough torque. Wiggling the case to get it off the dowels? LOL I've had a chain hoist pulling the engine start lifting the whole truck before splitting the dowels.

False. Last 500 transmissions I’ve pulled front seal bushing have never been harmed. Stop spreading fake info it’s not good for the industry. Or make videos explaining why and tag me later. It’s actually safer to remove the way I do it I’ve broke bell housings letting them slam on the floor before with torque converter inside. Go make some videos and teach me.
Oh and not a junkyard transmission. Spend some time in a professional shop working on automobiles and you will never see a transmission pulled with the torque converter still bolted to the flywheel unless the motor can not be rotated to get it out.

Nice video. Would you do anything differently if you did it again? I have a 05 4x4 Yukon 5.3L. 233,000 miles. Looking to get a used cheap broken 4L60/65/70 to rebuild with my teen as a DIY learning project. To have ready. I found a used one for $60, with nothing but Reverse working. Thanks!
I'm going to try and find a 4x4 700r4 (later year around 92) at one of my local junkyards to fix my first vehicle ('92 Chevy Blazer) Do you come across those transmissions very often? Really love your content. Keep it up!
Yes sir I just pulled one of those last week!! I’ll record my next one! Yeah I come across them but they are getting a bit harder to find as time goes by Man, Thanks for watching I appreciate the support 🙏🏽🥹🙏🏽🥹🙏🏽🥹🦾👨🏻🔧🦾👨🏻🔧
So if I wanted too use one of these transmisssion out of an envoy or it’s all I can find how would I go about putting it in my 5.3 ls will the bell housing line up or would I have too use my old bell housing and torque converter?
Yes it’ll work just make sure the front shaft is the same some of the trailblazers have that ugly mini shaft with the tiny torque converter Sorry for the late reply been super busy these past couple months have 10 more videos getting ready to be uploaded 🦾👨🏻🔧🔩🙏🏽
so if i want to keep the torque converter and flexplate to swap onto my 5.3 should i do it this way as well? pull trans... then torque converter? or should i take out the torque converter bolts and pull the trans and torque converter as 1 piece? then grab the flex plate. since its gonna go back onto my suburban?
If you’re doing it at home with a transmission jack with no potential falling impact it’s best to remove it in one unit, I remove the transmission first and torque converter afterwards because if you leave it in there’s a chance you can break the pump or damage the shaft it’s happened to me before, it’s just heavier and falls awkwardly and can get pretty dangerous Thanks for watching 🤙🏽👨🏻🔧
How do you deal with rusted/corroded exhaust flange nuts? Mines a 98 Sierra, still shifts fine at 250k, always svcd, no debris ever in the pan. Just thinkin its time will soon be up! Perhaps I'll get warning signs with shifting before it lets go? It's always been driven easy.
Just pop them off and use new ones bro don’t battle old rusted nuts/bolts you’ll be happy you did that next time you pull them off it’ll be butter you also don’t want to reinstall rusty bolts/nuts they don’t close the gap all the way sometimes or break right at the last second as you’re tightening them anyways! But yeah just use new ones! Hop that pan stays clean!!
.I’ve pulled many semi transmissions. Semis are actually way easier to work on than cars/trucks, way more space and way less bolts. Parts are twice as heavy but as far as bolt placement and amount of bolts it’s very very easy.
Hey bro , I got a 2001 Chevy Suburban with a bad transmission. Whats yours advice on getting a cheap one and how much should I pay for installation? I’m in Orlando if you know a guy
Go to your junkyard and find a wrecked truck and pull the oil pan to make sure it’s clean then pull it off and buy it. Install shouldn’t be more than $700 if 2wd and $800 if 4x4 (these are street prices lol) if you go to a shop they’ll find a way to empty your pockets for like $1600-$2000
Thus dude fliped the pan off with out touching it i bet everyone else had to pry theres off. Every one who didnt have to pry the pan off comment and help this guy out
I believe your cousins own a shop in slc ut they specialize in swapping triton v8 and v10 in 99 to current f150 250 and superdutys got to buy jasper crate engine from them but u drop the truck off before 7am on weekday its done by noon or you drop it at noon and its done by 5pm that day its 3 brothers its all they do they are quick they do 2 a day its the crate engine price plus 1000 labor

I be working on my car like this wondering why the next day im sore or my next all stiff 😂
Hahahaha those pains are something else!!! Have you turning your head like Batman lmao 🤣
Appreciate you stopping by 🦾🙏🏽👨🏻🔧
Yea...i did not think that was possible...wow. what about the transfer case and driveshafts though?
Thanks for stopping by! I have 4x4 videos too!!
What is better to rebuild a transmission or get another one from junkyard
Try a junk yard bro find truck that’s smashed in the front that’s usually a good bet
Smart man! What this guy said ☝🏽
Appreciate y’all for stopping by 🦾👨🏻🔧🔩
No joke, I’m actually curious what you’d charge to do the same exact job because I need a trailblazer transmission at the moment hahaha
Couple hundred bucks to pull one off for you in less than 15min lol
You are the man. Nice job
Appreciate it bro!👨🏻🔧
if you were in Tampa FL, I'd hire you to put in my new starter on my 5.3 Envoy
Hope you got that thing started and on the road! Unfortunately I’m all the way in California ☀️
Nice, this instilled the confidence in me to try it at the local junkyard. What breaker bar was that btw?
How’d it go?? Did you get to it?? Just a regular ol craftsman
Thanks!
Hope that rebuild project is coming along!!!
Great video……. Awesome work👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you very much 🙏🏽👨🏻🔧
I'm going to try and find a 4x4 700r4 (later year around 92) at one of my local junkyards to fix my first vehicle ('92 Chevy Blazer)
Do you come across those transmissions very often?
Really love your content. Keep it up!
I don't see many in Michigan just due to the cars or trucks rusted out 20 years ago. I would question anything in the yard that isn't a crash car.
Yes sir I just pulled one of those last week!! I’ll record my next one! Yeah I come across them but they are getting a bit harder to find as time goes by
Man, Thanks for watching I appreciate the support 🙏🏽🥹🙏🏽🥹🙏🏽🥹🦾👨🏻🔧🦾👨🏻🔧
@@KD0LRG yes sir! Anything not wrecked inspect thoroughly!
U make it look so easy lol
I remener being abale to move that fast under a car, but now there is no chance i can remember those scocket sizes that fast. Lol.
Lol
Hahahaha you got this bro.!!! Thanks for stopping by 🙏🏽🦾👨🏻🔧
Hes so fast its like he's stealing it 😂😂
@@LifelineKustoms 😂😩 I couldn’t get it over the fence
@@Ajunkman lol
Bro wasnt playing with that. Definitely can tell you've been under those many times. What you do with the transmissions?
What brand and size impact used? I need to get one reasonably for my own junkyard occasionally pulls but be great. Its red but i cant read the brand
The impacts are snap on I’ll get the model number later I think I have a tools list in the description
Broo. Hats off to you bro. REAL SHIT !!! What state are you in ?
Thank you! Appreciate you stopping by 🦾👨🏻🔧🙏🏽 good ol CALIFORNIA ☀️
How come you did not take the oil pan out before to see the moment of true?
Sometimes they just smell so good!
What an inspiration this guy is. So all I need is 13mm and 15mm.
Thank you! Appreciate you stopping by 🦾👨🏻🔧🙏🏽 haha it’s what it seems like huh I should have a tools list in the description
Do you have one you put it back in ?
What do you mean? Like an install video?
Damn what impact gun is that? I’m trying to pull the transmission out to get a rebuilt.
It’s the snap on one the less bulky one. Highly recommend it
How much did you pay for that transmission at the junkyard???
They go for about $400 nowadays
Took bro longer to change sockets than anything image if he had a lift ... savage
Wish the socket can just appear in my hands I’ll be under 5mins for sure lol thanks for stopping by!! 🦾👨🏻🔧🙏🏽
Is there a jack holding that car up or just rims? It looks like a rim on its side and one round side up. If thats true youre braver than me
Just rims brotha. Sometimes the time are bent so bad and the truck is only sitting on the lip. I call these “death traps” editions 😎👨🏻🔧
That's a nice catch.......scored👍🏻
Yes sir she was a beauty 👨🏻🔧🤘🏽
Nice job
I have a 2007 avalanche 5.3 rwd needs a transmission
A 2007 envoy 4.2 will fit??
Thanks!! No it won’t but a particular 08 trailblazer would!
So if I wanted too use one of these transmisssion out of an envoy or it’s all I can find how would I go about putting it in my 5.3 ls will the bell housing line up or would I have too use my old bell housing and torque converter?
Yes it’ll work just make sure the front shaft is the same some of the trailblazers have that ugly mini shaft with the tiny torque converter
Sorry for the late reply been super busy these past couple months have 10 more videos getting ready to be uploaded 🦾👨🏻🔧🔩🙏🏽
Where did all the oil go?
Back to earth!
so if i want to keep the torque converter and flexplate to swap onto my 5.3 should i do it this way as well? pull trans... then torque converter? or should i take out the torque converter bolts and pull the trans and torque converter as 1 piece? then grab the flex plate. since its gonna go back onto my suburban?
If you’re doing it at home with a transmission jack with no potential falling impact it’s best to remove it in one unit, I remove the transmission first and torque converter afterwards because if you leave it in there’s a chance you can break the pump or damage the shaft it’s happened to me before, it’s just heavier and falls awkwardly and can get pretty dangerous
Thanks for watching 🤙🏽👨🏻🔧
That was impressive. I don't even need to do this job but I watched the whole thing. Skills.
Wow🙏🏽👨🏻🔧 thanks man I appreciate you stopping by just a lil junkn around lol
Can you put 1 on for under 8 minutes too?
No. I take my time installing make it look like it’s never been touched before! Appreciate you stopping by 🦾👨🏻🔧🙏🏽
How do you deal with rusted/corroded exhaust flange nuts?
This diesel mechanic I work with can have the old transmission out and the new one in in under 40 minutes. Hes a beast and this is on semi 🚛
.I’ve pulled many semi transmissions. Semis are actually way easier to work on than cars/trucks, way more space and way less bolts. Parts are twice as heavy but as far as bolt placement and amount of bolts it’s very very easy.
how did you lift this back in your car?
With my arms lol
Hey bro , I got a 2001 Chevy Suburban with a bad transmission. Whats yours advice on getting a cheap one and how much should I pay for installation? I’m in Orlando if you know a guy
Go to your junkyard and find a wrecked truck and pull the oil pan to make sure it’s clean then pull it off and buy it. Install shouldn’t be more than $700 if 2wd and $800 if 4x4 (these are street prices lol) if you go to a shop they’ll find a way to empty your pockets for like $1600-$2000
It will take me a while to pull one
I take my time when installing make sure everything goes back in perfect make it look like it’s never been touched before!
What kind of impact are you using? Where can I get me one of those?
It’s a snap on 1/2”
Where is it?
No flywheel bolts to be romoved?
What do you mean
Thus dude fliped the pan off with out touching it i bet everyone else had to pry theres off. Every one who didnt have to pry the pan off comment and help this guy out
Hahahha sometimes people gorilla glue their pans back idk why sometimes I have to pry it off too 🫣 thanks for stopping by!!!! 🦾👨🏻🔧🙏🏽

What swivel attachment are you using? Mine never last
It’s the snap on one mines all wobbly now I need to get a new one lol they’re like $60 but hella worth it I hate the harbor freight ones they the joint never lasts
If I did it like this on my truck how would I ever be able to put it back together! 😂
It’s not meant to do it on your truck 🤣
Go to the junkyard and have fun! 👨🏻🔧
Make a video for removing a 2006 accord v6 engine lol I need one and don’t know how to

Hope you didnt ruin that pump bushing or the pump.
Why not take a few more minutes and remove the starter and the tq converter bolts?
Laughable. Lol. Watch more of daddies (me) videos and you’ll see all that pump bushing/ruined pumps is all a soft-boy myth. I’ve pulled THOUSANDS of 4L60Es this same exact way and have NEVER had a scratch on anything. Don’t listen to all that soft-boy misleading information, it’s all bs. I’m the inventor of pulling it this way and i can assure if you ever did it MY way you’ll be more than okay and nothing will break 😎
Thanks for watching!😁👨🏻🔧
what does the green paint mean on the parts
Nothing they paint them at the junkyards sometimes probably while doing inventory
How much?
They go for about 400-450 at the junkyards nowadays
What brand socket swivel are you using?
Snap on 1/2” part no. IP80D
Best swivel I’ve ever used 7 years deep with this one
What vehicle is that? Chevy ? Year?
Let me watch it real quick lol
I thought i was good at 1hr put i also pull the pan first see if the clutche are in the pan and i pull the convert bolts threw starter hole
This guy definitely works in a chop shop
Where are they hiring!!!??? lol
Dumped the fluid?
Dumpy dump!
Do you even transmission bro???
I try! 😎 haha
how much did you pay ?
They go for about $400
How much do they cost you
Thanks for watching! 🙏🏽👨🏻🔧
A couple hundred bucks
Well that pump is trashed. The lockup seal is trashed. Did it quick, but now. It's a 5 grand rebuild
@@johnrodriguez473 lmaoooooooo what a hating lil b word 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡 what else princess????
None of that is true. Stop with your soft ass comments. I’ve pulled over 2,000 4L60Es and never ever EVER had an issue. Instead of
b!tch!ng in my comment section upload a video and show the world how to do it the princess way 💅
