Pulling a transmission and transfer case WITHOUT a lift - Trailblazer Envoy 4x4

  • In this video, I pull the transmission with the transfer case out of my 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer without using a lift. Yep, I pulled this transmission out by myself on my patio. Don't tell my wife I made a big mess. Thanks!
    I follow a slow methodical pace to remove the bolts, wiring harnesses, brackets and lines and used a couple of floor jacks to wrestle the transmission with its transfer case out from underneath the Failblazer. All-in-all I spent a few hours removing it, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.

    It'll be easier to remove transfer case first then the trans. future reference

    Yes installing it is far worse. I pulled and rebuild a 4R75E Ford transmission. Rebuilding it yourself isn't bad. Works like a charm and saved a ton of money.

    If you split the transmission and transfer case, it'll make it easier

    At least your deep tranny pan came with a drain plug, my 06 has a deep pan with no damn drain plug, if you’re not careful you get to take a shower at the same time you change your transmission filter and fluid.

    My beautiful 02' Blazer ZR2 reads as a Trailblazer on my scanner & my mechanics scanner for some reason.
    Aren't these 2 different vehicles?
    I had my 4L60e rebuilt a few years back. $2200
    The "Sunshield" or whatever they call it snapped, I hear this is a major issue if you have a stock Shield. It's located right in the middle of your tranny, so you might as well rebuild it. Great info.
    About to tackle my drivers side rear bearing tomorrow.

  • @corpsepenis
    @corpsepenis 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Might be worth keeping. It does look like it's been rebuilt as the OEM torque converter isn't blue like that. I bought my "rebuilt" trans from a salvage yard and after shipping to my house, it was around $650. So right there, the trans is worth more than the entire scrap value of the truck. As someone who's done it, doing all this work of removal/install on your back SUCKS. Although, I guess overall, it wasn't the worst job I've done by any means. I wish the frame on my EXT was as clean as the one on your parts truck.

    • @TheDaninator
      @TheDaninator  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was figuring it’d been worked on before. I pulled it thinking it was worth more than the scrap rate of the whole truck. Having the creeper and the cordless impact saved a lot of wear and tear on me for sure!

    I’ve dropped out manual transmissions on a couple firebirds for clutch disk repairs, far easier than what you went through. Automagics are tough but can be done by a DIY dude for sure.

    I love these kinds of videos better than watching some movies. These types of videos are raw real life events with all the mistakes a person can make it's perfect it doesn't sugar coat anything and that's what I like I want to know what I may encounter and watching it happen the good the bad the ugly 👍🏻GREAT STUFF👍🏻
