FTX Carnage Brushless Vs Nitro

  • A short video comparing the brushless and nitro version of the FTX Carnage RC car. Both cars are quick, but the nitro version is that little bit quicker. With a good start the electric can keep up, but after 20 metres or so, the nitro always pulls away.

    Take it the brushless is running standard battery. Be interesting to see you try this test again, but with a good 3s. Brushless Vs Nitro rematch please. Subscibed!!

      It almost wheelied is slow mo so the batteries are fine. Electric may have better torque but nitro revs higher in alot of cases. And who isnt facinated by that nitro sound.

    try brushless with higher kv.. and higher lipo s..

    Another thing to point out is the FTX nitro low speed needle seems to be running a tiny rich and the high speed needle a tiny bit too lean :D...Obviously the brushless has so much torque to be controllable on full throttle..

    The brushless is running toys r us batteries. Put two 3 cell batteries in there and he wouldn't even be able to take off without flipping it on its back...

    • @danjwant
      @danjwant  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe this does use fairly decent batteries as it was a struggle to keep the front end down. Although maybe not here it seems :)

    • @77chonyc
      @77chonyc 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      danjwant I dont believe so since with my brushless monster truck and two 3 cell batteries, its impossible to keep the front end down. It usually does a backflip when half throttle is applied. I usually turn down power on my remote to 70% and allow for longer run times since at 100% power its uncontrollable.. Cheers

    • @zesprixx
      @zesprixx 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +77chonyc Why would anyone want a car that cant be controlled? Lmao. Flipping on its back is just stupid. The nitro would definitley win then while the brushless is upside down. Even tho it still won while it had 2s.

    • @zesprixx
      @zesprixx 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Its really really not, If we talk 1/8 scale power with engines tuned to the max nitros can totally hang with electrics. On the track atleast, not a pointless drag race. If you have a good tune on a nitro it can scream (literally). At my track electrics are allowed to race with the nitros cause race level nitro vehicles are more than capable of keeping up with them

    • @Luke-en2tk
      @Luke-en2tk 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Electric 1/8th offroad is quicker than the Nitro equivalent, which is why they race in separate classes. I think 1/8th nitro onroad is at present quicker than the electric equivalent, this probably won't last for long though

  • @muhaahaloa941
    @muhaahaloa941 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow the nitro once it got grip left the brushless for dead :D...Some people like nitro and some like batteries to
    be honest i would rather use nitro..I know it takes a while to get it broken in and the tuneing can be a little
    troubles some for beginners but once you have mastered it you have a car you can run for many hours..
    As electric car you have to recharge the damn battery every time even if you where to take 4 batteries out its
    still a pain in the A$$ and you do not get the same sensation as using nitro the noise and smell.

  • @ValleyRC
    @ValleyRC 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    VERY misleading.
    The motor used in the FTX is a budget "finned 380" type motor and not a full size 540. They are decent but not as powerful as a real 540 motor.
    To make matters worse, you are using the stock "voltz" brand NIMH battery which is a huge bottleneck. Between the low C rating and voltage sag, even this smaller motor isn't going to be able to accelerate to it's full potential and top speed will also be lower than it should be.
    This is just about the weakest brushless motor you could have used combined with a weak and unsuitable battery and it still held it's own. With a proper battery it would have won. With a proper battery and more suitable motor it would have left it in the dust. With a more suitable motor and a 3s battery it would have lapped the nitro.

      How’s that ?
      I bought a Brushed version it came with a 15T brushed motor , I never even ran it .
      I swapped it out for a Castle Creations BL system 3800 KV it’s an over kill,
      I down graded the motor 3450kv etronix it’s a little more manageable but still too powerful for the car

    • @ValleyRC
      @ValleyRC 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mark-1rc502 The motor used in this video is a budget model. Instead of being a full size 540 it is a 380 sized core with big cooling fins. It's still more powerful than a brushed motor but not as powerful as a full size 540 brushless such as the ones you have used.
      I've also noticed that they are using the stock NIMH battery which is going to create a bottleneck and starve the motor of current.
      So they are using the least powerful motor possible along with a weakest battery possible, one that isn't particularly suitable and it still gave the nitro a run for it's money.
      Simply swapping to a lipo battery would have closed any gap, switching to a full size 540 would have given it an advantage and using a 3s battery, it would have left it in the dust with either motor.

      Cheapskate , what a con I thought it was a proper motor .😏
      I don’t have the Ftx anymore I found it broke too easily but it was Silly Fast on 3s , I tried running a mamba x ESC with the castle 3800kv, on a 4s , oh my i couldn’t even use full power I got it rolling and banged it down full power it spun out at estimated 50+ mph & hit a curb, it imploded into bits 😝.
