Amburana is a tree found in Brazil, whose wood is used to age Cachaca, a Brazilian spirit made with fermented sugar cane. In recent years, American distillers have been experimenting with finishing whiskey and bourbon in Amburana barrels. In this episode, we try the newest Amburana finished releases from one of our favorite distillers, Starlight, and a newcomer to the scene: RD One. Who will win the "Battle of Amburana"? Nice comparison. I have both of these. Amburana finished bourbons taste like Apple Cinnamon to me. I see Nulu also has an Amburana Finished bottle, but have not tried it. 🥃

This was a great review Mike. I have given my Fiddler Amburana a fair shake. I'm down to half a bottle and although, it's good, I don't think I'll be buying a back up. I'm impressed with Barrell. Everything I've tasted, I've like. Even Armida, which is my least favorite of the 4 bottles I've got open, it's a great pour. I'm waiting to open and try Batch 35, Batch 34, Seelbach's Z6D2, D5X2 finished in Pedro Ximenez Cask, and CQ09 finished in Oloroso Sherry Casks.

Cinnamon you’re getting is probably coumarin, a molecule that’s present both in amburana and cinnamon

Maybe I missed it, but no mention of apple for the RD One? That's the most dominant flavor to me. Quaker instant apple cinnamon oats, dried apple chips all day. 🤤
