At first i thought this was for real and was going to recommend some good cheap bourbons, then all i could think of when i read this was jg wentworth commercials haha.
My list: 10-20: Small batch or Top Floor Benchmark 20-30: Wild Turkey 101, Old Forester 100, Devils River Single Barrel, Devils River barrel strength 30-40: Balcones Lineage, TX, Jack Daniels Bonded, Whistler 40-50: Old Forester 1910, Devils River Select, Horse Soldier Small Batch, Rare Breed, Balcones Baby Blue 50-70: TX barrel strength, Old Forester 1920, Eagle Rare, Ranger Creek .36 70+: Ranger Creek .36 barrel strength, Balcones (anything in this price point), Horse Soldier
OGD 114 is $29.99 around me in IL. Found it for $19.99 at a store in WI, so I bought 4 bottles to bunker. I like Redwood Empire Pipe Dream for $30 as an easy sipper like Buffalo Trace. Cooper’s Craft 100 Proof is yummy and underrated at $32. Both Green River Bourbon and Green River Wheated Bourbon are also good and easy sippers. Like Ben Holladay BIB and would love to find the Soft Red Wheat Bourbon. 🥃
Wild Turkey 101 has basically transitioned to being a legend for maintaining price and quality despite the “bourbon storm” of the past decade where some companies lost their minds chasing virality rather than, well, value. And for me, Rare Breed is in the same category for higher proof, higher priced bourbons (along with their rye brothers).
The ones I’ve had that you recommended I liked. Definitely see some selections that I can get in my area that I will be picking up and trying. I definitely enjoyed this topic, thanks for sharing.
We call that 12 year optimal Knob Creek. So delicious. Side note, my folks used to take the Nintendo controllers but leave the console so all I could do was watch that Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt title screen. Absolutely diabolical. Cheers Matt!
Hands down the best under 15/20 range so far that I have tried is Benchmark Small batch. It beats a lot of more expensive bourbons in blinds for me and my wife all the time. My dad even was surprised that it beat out some of his favorites in blinds as well that we did over Christmas. It is 13.99 where I am at and an absolute best value that I currently have in my entire collection. (13 price point is just too insane for how decent/good it is)
In Branson Mo OGD 114 is super hard to find. I have seen 5 bottles in the last 3 years and I bought 4. Ben Halliday is delicious. Old Forester 1920 is great. Rare Breed is great. 101 is a bargain. Good video Matt😊
Benchmark Bonded, Small Batch, Top Floor and Single Barrel were all heavily discounted recently in the Atlanta area..all expressions were $7.50 per bottle..of course I bunkered several cases #winning😜
I like EH Taylor, Eagle Rare, Henry McKenna 10 year, Blanton, and Elijah Craig 18 year. They're all under $100 but fan vary in price depending on where yiu can find them. Not easy to find by me but not impossible. Old Forester 1910 is easy to find by me and my go to. Buffalo Trace and Makers 46 are my favorites in the $30-$40 range.
Great list - I have not seen OG114 for under $35 here. WT 101 is the absolute KING of $20-$30 bourbons and it outclasses many $50 bottles. The one I would highly recommend at the $65 price point is Penelope Architect - great stuff. Cheers, Matt!
@@FakingANerve VA ABC has their own law enforcement agency and they did nothing other than “uh, won’t happen again” and this after the whole leaking allocated distribution scandal. I could have done this investigation quickly-the four people who got all the bottles obviously paid someone and or have some sort of leverage and it would not be hard to find. But likely many VA ABC employees, probably executives, would be implicated. That’s how government works. As Mel Brooks quipped in Blazing Saddles (to Hedley Lamar): “We have to protect our phony-baloney jobs, gentlemen.” It’s shameless, but unfortunately in states without government monopolies there are just different types of corruption in the spirits (and alcohol) business. It’s the human condition when you have inadequate checks and balances and oversight.
Agree with the Knob Creek Single Select. Out of 3 bottles I’ve tried I’ve only had one that was boring. Smooth but boring. I would also add Old Forester 1920 and Widow Jane 10.
This is a great idea for a video, thanks for doing it. Love watching your channel grow all the way from fishing to this! You've inspired me my man. Plus we share the same name.... now I just gotta get on your diet kick....................
That wink a minute into it lets you know this video is going to be a good ride. I'm a fan of 1792 and Cooper's Craft 100, but I would also put Michter's American or sb on the list... PS - I've put VOB in a blind with 4-5 other bourbons and all 6 people put it in the top 2 (beat out WT80 and Buffalo Trace)
Great video! Maker’s 46 cask strength. A few dollars more then regular MM cask strength and sooo much better! I avoided WT for so long for the reason stated. Gladly, I finally broke down and bought some RB! Same with JD. The single barrel barrel strength is awesome!
Rare Breed is delicious. 🤌🏻 Hilariously, I've avoided 101 because of the exact thing he mentioned in the video lol, but I'll have to revisit with sipping (instead of shooting 🤦🏼♂️) it in mind. 😆
Great list Matt! Some of my faves right now are Sagamore Rye DO $50, Willet Straight Rye Small Batch $70, Redwood Empire Pipe Dream CS $70, I know not all are available everywhere. But where is the Malort?!?! Just kidding, Cheers
A glaring omission from the under $20 category is Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. Always solid and always available. The black label is pretty good too and I can usually find it for under $10.
Matt is in Colorado so all the Benchmarks are not here. But I agree, they are great for the money (I have them all from a TX trip). Bakers 7, McKenna 10, Heaven Hill BIB, Buffalo Trace and store pics should make this list as well. WT 101 Rye should absolutely make this list, er wait only Boubons
I might have to try the Benchmark 8 at some point. Only available in the 1.75L but is only $17.99 so would not be losing much even if I hate it. I am not a huge fan of WT101 and would put Four Roses, Buffalo Trace, OF86, Jim Beam double oaked, and Buillett ahead of that in the $20-$30 range. I would have to add OF1910 and Woodford's DO to the $50-$70 range. I agree with the JDSBBP. That is good juice and could go in the $50-$70 range here. I like Penelope toasted in that range as well.
My sub $25 bottles have been Weller SR and Jim Beam Black 7 year. Under $35 is RR10. And recently I’ve found KC SBR 120 proof for $43 at Costco, I bought 3 bottles of that, I don’t know what can beat it at that price.
At first, I was upset that you didn’t mention old Forester 100. But then I started thinking thank you so much ADHD whiskey for not putting my favorite whiskey on blast and making it hard to find. Lol great video as always and I agree with everything you said.
"in taste their is no disputing. Surprised you didn't at least mention Calumet 14 and 15 year for the $100+, it's pretty available in Dallas, not sure about elsewhere, anyways great video!
So many on this list I've had, and so many more that I need to taste. I'm from Missouri, and have yet to try the Ben Holladay bib. I guess that's a required thing to do now.
I’d love to hear your take on regular Angles Envy. I had a bottle gifted to me (not sure which bottle it was) but I didn’t feel it was bad. Love to hear your take. Thanks
Was gifted a bottle of Kentucky Owl which turned out to be one of the nicest bourbons I’ve had the pleasure to own. In Pa. (State stores) it’s priced around $145.00 so it is kept in a separate cabinet from the other bourbons in my collection.
Great video man! My top 3 best value bourbons: Benchmark FP, OGD 114, & ET BiB. I am fortunate they're available & very cheap in my area (all under 23 bucks).
You and I agree on KC12 and 2XO, but disagree on the Rare Breed, Rebel 10 and Ben H. from Mizzora. I would add some other Benchmarks to the $20-30 list. It is hard for me to think of anything that I like today between $100 and $200, except Calumet 15 and 16.
So lame.... lol OGD114 is one that I think should always be on your shelf, great for price. That Bardstwon origin BIB is a great daily pour. great list, a lot I have not tried but gonna have to grab a bottle or two. thanks for sharing. PS. I did challenge you on my video today. super simple challenge, hope you are up to it. cheers
Here in FLA, I was SHOCKED at what happened to EC. It is now retailing for @ $35-40! This happened within the last month or so. Damn shame. The juice isn't worth the squeeze at that price point.
2 Thoughts... 1- Early Times BiB, MIA for a while now. Do you think OF1924 has something to do with that? 2- Do you think that the age statement is less a factor due to the trend of milder winters and warmer conditions consistently in Spring through October in KY? So these 12-18 year Barrels should be amazing if that were the case.
In the 100-200 range the Bardstown disco series is usually pretty safe to pick up, as well as some four gate products if you want to get closer to the 200 side. Really excited for the Boulder single barrel pick coming. We can’t get anything from them where I live so that’s pretty awesome.
I'm a big fan of Peerless Rye. I understand it is priced too high but I'm willing to pay for it because I like the juice. To all in the ADHD Whiskey Whirled, what say you for other options for a delicious rye under the century mark?
This is the first video I've seen of yours. I like your style. Edit: I don't know what I'm doing with my life that I don't have a whiskey room like this.
I picked up a Heaven Hill BIB for $50 and an Angel’s Envy store pick for $100 the other day. The AE is solid, but there’s no shot it’s twice as good as the Heaven Hill. I don’t want to say it’s not worth $100, but man there’s a lot of great whiskey out there for cheaper.
Even in europe, where bourbon prices are higher and scotch/irish prices are lower, Wild Turkey 101 is one of the most solid price/quality bottles you can get. It's simply delicious stuff, even neat in a glencairn. If you're somehow on the fence, get off that fence man
Right up my alley and right up my turnpike Matt. 1792 SB is a regular staple and I love the Coopers Craft 100 proof. Coopers by me is under $30 so it is an amazing value here in Northern IN. Moving on - there will never not be a OF 1920 in my bar. ECBP, JD BP and Knob Creek 12 are favorites as well. You knocked it out of the park here. The only addition I would add is Heaven Hill BIB 7 YR which around here is $50.
At the 100ish price point, some of the recent Barrell offerings are worth a look, especially Batch 33. Larceny Barrel Proof getting better every year, too, in that 50-70 range. Great list overall, presented in a well-organized Porter Order.
Good video. I have 99% of all the below $60 on my shelf. I agree with your assessment. You can get very good whiskey without breaking the bank. Good deal for us senior citizens on fixed incomes.
I’ve tried a few of these Benchmark 8- was definitely a tasty pour and a great bargain, I was pleasantly surprised. Old Grand dad 114 was a little too high proof for me and my experience level 1792- was a great pour one of my favorites.

Bro why did I immediately and without question read this in that high pitched ladies singing voice?😂😂
At first i thought this was for real and was going to recommend some good cheap bourbons, then all i could think of when i read this was jg wentworth commercials haha.
Why did so many people have a hard time with Wild Turkey in college? Personally I had a bad time with Southern Comfort and Jack Daniels.
Seagram’s 7 Had me crawling in bed with my parents when I drove home by angels help
My list:
10-20: Small batch or Top Floor Benchmark
20-30: Wild Turkey 101, Old Forester 100, Devils River Single Barrel, Devils River barrel strength
30-40: Balcones Lineage, TX, Jack Daniels Bonded, Whistler
40-50: Old Forester 1910, Devils River Select, Horse Soldier Small Batch, Rare Breed, Balcones Baby Blue
50-70: TX barrel strength, Old Forester 1920, Eagle Rare, Ranger Creek .36
70+: Ranger Creek .36 barrel strength, Balcones (anything in this price point), Horse Soldier

$100-200 price range. Calumet 16yr. Sits on the shelf at most places due to its $150 price tag, but a truly an awesome bottle.
Great video tho!!!

The ones I’ve had that you recommended I liked. Definitely see some selections that I can get in my area that I will be picking up and trying. I definitely enjoyed this topic, thanks for sharing.
I would agree 100%. I'd rather have a Wild Turkey 101 than a Buffalo Trace any day, it's basically my go to bourbon.

Fighting cock 103 proof is a great bourbon
This was awesome! I have a lot of those bottles already! I would add Michter’s, Sagamore and Woodford. 😄👍
Benchmark top floor at 15 bucks is wonderful. Would also add EW BiB
Old Grand Dad Bonded and Benchmark Bonded are both excellent for right around (and under) $20
Old Forester 100 between $20-$30 is excellent. Over $100 Calumet 14/15/16 are very good and are readily available in my area.
I agree. I bought the Calumet 16 on his recommendation, and it's one of my favorites.
Totally agree on the Old Forester 100! I haven't found Calumet yet.
I just got a bottle of Knob 12 for $65, I'm not sure I'd love it for $80, but for $65 I'm enjoying it a lot

Great episode. The pics in the 20-30 range, fantastic. In the 100-200 category: Calumet 16. I can find it for about 150.
101 was definitely my go-to college bump. Didn't realize how tasty it is if you don't shoot it all until later.

@@deangood6682 agree! I don’t love the regular Cooper’s Craft - but the Cooper’s 100 is delish! I grab it whenever I see it
OGD114 is $29.99 in VA where the gummint runs the spirits business and you can only get allocated bottles if you paid off someone…
@@tommyrq180I didn't make it through the first "ha" of laughter before it got cut off with a sigh. Yeah... I live here too.

Bulleitt 10 is 50 here in MI. WT rare breed and MM cask strength are cheaper. Some MI prices are odd
The only for-sure bottle I'd add is Baker's 7... $60 where I live. That RR Single Barrel is great and only $66 here. Don't tell anyone.
Redwood Empire Lost Monarch would definitely be in my list of 30-40. It's between 30 and 35 around me.
Always said this: The ROI on anything over $90-100 is incredibly bad.
You should do a rye video now! I always love when the whiskey being mentioned is less than what is being said, bonus!

I prefer JW Dant to JTS Brown. A bit sweeter and not quite as nutty while still being sub-$20
As a Wild Turkey 101 and Rare Breed fan I’m happy to see them make your list, I also really like Eagle Rare and world suggest that too
Rare Breed is delicious. 🤌🏻 Hilariously, I've avoided 101 because of the exact thing he mentioned in the video lol, but I'll have to revisit with sipping (instead of shooting 🤦🏼♂️) it in mind. 😆

I also think under $20 should be Benchmark Full proof which around me is only $18.

Ogd bib is much better
EW BIB is certainly one of the best values on 100 proofers - Cheers
Always enjoy seeing what you go with. Next pickup has to be the Boulder!
JTS Brown I think you mentioned was KY only? Readily available in IL.
EW BIB and 1783 are good lower priced choices.

Great video! Options were spot on. Any chance you could find a Bardstown Founders for a review?
Great list Matt, I would I have added a double oaked too.
Surprised to see KC12 in the $70-$90 range. Here in Northern Indiana it's a $54-$59 bottle and it's really good
U better stock up. I don't see it less than 70
It's $60 here. I bought 4
Regional recommends around 80 bucks
Sagamore Sherry finish
Sagamore 8 years
Old Soul Cask Strength store picks
At the 100ish price point, some of the recent Barrell offerings are worth a look, especially Batch 33.
Larceny Barrel Proof getting better every year, too, in that 50-70 range.
Great list overall, presented in a well-organized Porter Order.
Good video. I have 99% of all the below $60 on my shelf. I agree with your assessment. You can get very good whiskey without breaking the bank. Good deal for us senior citizens on fixed incomes.
I’ve tried a few of these
Benchmark 8- was definitely a tasty pour and a great bargain, I was pleasantly surprised.
Old Grand dad 114 was a little too high proof for me and my experience level
1792- was a great pour one of my favorites.
Rebel for $17 is pretty solid. Not high proof or complex - but very nice sweet corn flavors to it.
Need a bottle of that Friday the 13th JD! Would go great with my Freddy and Elm St Bourbon tattoo.
