Thank you for trying all of these together! I just got the Amburana and agree 100% that is has a cinnamon apple spice / cinnamon toast crunch without over-powering the bourbon. To me the Amburana has a winter holiday vibe without being sickly sweet. I paid $70 and am not disappointed. I honestly would like to see it closer to $50, as there are many great choices in the $60-70 price-range. I agree with Kurt that I do like it a lot. Yet, I also agree with Trenton's "dusty" note - not a deal-breaker; but I could do without it.
To be clear, the maple barrel finish is not Maple wood (which would have been great) but rather “French Oak staves (first finish) that were steeped in a patented process of pressure, oxygen, time and temperature with maple syrup (second finish).” So, the whiskey is nope being imparted with the complexities of maple wood, but rather syrup-soaked oak which I would think leaves a much-simpler profile of sugary sweetness. One of my favorite finished bourbons was actually Woodford Reserve Master’s Collection Maple Wood Finish Bourbon from around 2011 or so. This was a bourbon with no simple sweetness but rather a nicely complex whiskey that benefitted from the Maple wood finishing. I wish more distillers would experiment with maple wood (not syrup) finishing.
My wife got me a bottle of Red Line Elements for Father's Day. It's the first bottle I've had finished in amburana barrels and we both really enjoy it. I'll definitely grab another one.
Just picked up a bottle of the bourbon on a business trip to Denver (not available in Maine or New Hampshire). Very good - and worth the price. And I like that rectangular bottle design.
I met some great people working at the giftshop & tasting room. Their located in the Distillery District in Lexington. You can see how they are doing the finishing process. Nothing like Makers 46 w/ the stave stuck in the barrels. It worth a stop to try the full product line & other things they've got going on.
I have never seen RD1 here in Southern California yet, but I was in Colorado last weekend and picked up a bottle of the Amburana finished one. It's well worth the $70 I paid for it.
They are in a partnership with Western Kentucky Distilling by 8th Gen distiller Jacob Call ( Green River Distilling 2014-2022) probably should've saved that Maple for last... 😂
These aren’t in my area, but I’ve been seeing them on trips into Kentucky. Thanks to you, I now know which ones to look for. Thanks for the great video!
A manager at Pub 99 in New England was asked about all of their flavorings spirits whiskeys ,scotches all of it ! He said the larger orders are made ahead according to PUB 99 recipes! They actually have their own employees who sample to approve the product, the bottles you design and pick, the labels are your choice. Their bourbon are good!
Big fan of the Amburana, Cinnamin Rasin Bran Cereal with a super oily mouth feel. I am gonna love that one sitting in front of the fireplace watching the snow fall in a few months.
I was sipping on an Amburana Cask Finish RD1 watching this video and I must say it is a must buy for anyone's collection. I just discovered Barrell Craft Bourbon came out with a bottling of Amburana finished so curious to see how this compares. Maybe you boys can do a comparison. I must say you both have the most unique whisky Chanel on You Tube as a Father/Son presentation but not just that but you totally exude your enjoyment with each other sharing your enjoyment of whiskies. Maybe now's tine to get the wife to make occasional appearances in front of the camera.....just sayn.....cheers!
Hey Guys. Love your channel and content. I'm a long-time viewer. Ever since I saw your video about Widow Jane decadence, I've been looking for it here in AZ. Finally, it's at my local total wine. After seeing this RD video, I assume you still recommend WJ over the RD1 double barrel finished? Thanks a bunch
I have tried all of these at stores in KY. I also preferred the Straight bourbon. However, they also have a release that is called Old Wm. Tarr Manchester Reserve that I thought was amazing. It is an 8 year old rye blended with a 7 year old bourbon. RD1 is also partially owned by Mark Stoops, the University of Kentucky head football coach.

Barrell dropped their Amburana Cask Finish 2-3wks ago in TN......5yrs - 116.42pr. It's super smooth not ad hard hitting as my favorite, Doc Swinson's Bossa Nova
Great vid and love all of your vids...distillary reviews are fun as are head to head taste comparrisons and blinds. I have an idea for you guys...a double blind. Each review a set of burbons but not together. Then mas it together in a clever split screen video...could be fun.
I currently have the oak/maple finished bottle and really enjoy it. I have yet to try the others but looking forward to it. unfortunately living in SC we don't get these so have to hunt when i'm back in northwest OH visiting family.
I have been using the Trent system of tasting that includes the FROTHER. I pour my bourbon, scotch or red wine of choice sample the pour then Froth everything so far has a very different flavor in most cases a better smoother flavor! I opened a 2004 Cabernet over the weekend with friends and did the flavor test with them. This particular CAB started at about 89-91 rating first and second taste, Frothed for about 10-12 seconds let the bubbles in the wine dissipate! The overall rating of the wine after Frothing 95-96 it was incredibly good! Thanks for the share Trent!!
Yep. I can get Rare Breed for $55 and 1920 for $50.......might need to be $45 or less for me to "give it a try"... Unless Kurt and Trenton says its the bees knees. My palate lines up pretty close with Kurts on Bourbons. So......We'll see what the vid says at the end.
I agree 100%. I always enjoy watching reviews of new bourbons but so many bottles cheaper, in that price range and slightly above that are absolute slam dunks. $60 worth it or not I’m really not interested unless there’s a ton of hype around it.
I bought the Amburana from Bee Liquors back at the beginning of September for $65, can confirm that was the price at least a few weeks ago. We also have the cigar batch from Starlight. I think a line up of those, plus the Barrell, Nulu, and ASW amburana offerings could be interesting.
Hey guys love the show. Quick idea for a future testing. Instead of price point, how about something like a blind or best 13yr Widow Jane Russels reserve Elijah Craig barrel proof Baker Wild turkey Penelope Willett Etc….
I have not tried any of these yet and I'm not sure if I have seen any of them on the shelf here in Ohio, but the label does look familiar. I would really like to try the maple finish. I love pecans and pecan pie and this might be a nice after dinner sipper. Thanks for the review on this distillery!
Was just at a liquor store here in Wisconsin about an hour ago & before I could pull the trigger on one of these I realized I left my wallet at home. All bottles were in the 60-65 range.
Ya'll are the only channel that my wife enjoys watching with me. She is not a whiskey drinker but likes watching. She wanted to know if you would ever compare tequilas?
I live about an hour from Lexington and tried this flight at the Distillery this summer. The Amburana tastes just like apple pie! Love it. The maple was good but not my favorite maple finish.
I went to a tasting at RD1. Funny thing about their "finishing". The bottles say finished in "x barrel", but the lady that did my tasting says they use staves. So there is a little bit of tomfoolery there. I did leave with an Amburana one. But don't be mislead by what the bottle says
Love the videos. Is there nothing you can do about the camera focus? I can see a gnats butt pimple on the bottles behind you, but the bottles on the bar are so blurry.
I've only had an amburana finished Irish whiskey, a 15 year old Teeling singlemalt. It's good, and interesting, but honestly, i think i would prefer it without the amburana. It overpowers what seems to be a very quality single malt whiskey.
Due to the sweetness of the maple/oak expression, I would have lined that up 3rd, rather than the French Oak. I think the qualities of the French Oak would tend to be lost after drinking a more sweet-forward expression. Other than that, I’ll be looking for these to sample to see if I enjoy them for purchase. They sound strong.
Have you guys ever heard of "western reserve distillers"? There is a 12 year 125$ bottle that the store clerk keeps insisting is an unknown buffalo trace product. It says born in Kentucky bottled in Ohio on the bottle, does anyone have anymore info about this? They don't even have that bottle on their own website.
Sounds like interesting products at fairly reasonable prices especially for finished bourbon and a start-up distillery. Wish they were more transparent with less historical fluff. Never had an amburana finished product, so may follow Kurt down that road if I find it. Surprised that Trenton actually found something too sweet for the candy man !
Trenton is right mini wheats, Raisin Brand “Crunch” but you need to toss in Golden Grams. I have not seen RD1 in Maryland but I have considered buying the ambruana online through their site. All the reviews I’ve seen says is damn good.
I could get in on some Golden Grahams for sure! I was a HUGE Golden Grahams and Honey Smacks fan as a kid...nice callout for that forgotten part of my life haha!
Am curious if you have ever tried Whiskey Acres Artisan Series - Maple Syrup Casks Finished out of DeKalb, Illinois and what did you think? I've been watching the channel for about a year heard you both rave of Decadence. I finally found a bottle about 2 months ago in Champaign, IL. I had previously seen and bought the Whiskey Acres bottle. And to me, Whiskey Acres blows Decadence away. For me it's about the proof. Decadence at 90 versus Acres at 115.6, that extra proof really heightens that maple flavor and overall taste of the bourbon. But I'm like Trenton and gravitate towards more proof. So curious if you've had it?
Definitely need an amburana show. RD One, ASW, Barrel, Doc Swinson’s, Nulu, and I’m sure I missed some. It’s unique, and some stand head and shoulders above the others. Would love to see you two blind them
Will have to work on finding the Doc Swinson's - they don't distribute in Indiana from what I know. Thanks for the list we will be sure to throw this together for sure!
Could make that a series in itself too. A “finished” blind tasting. One show Amburana, another of all Cognac, another of all sherry, port, armanac, et al this list is endless. But it’s neat to compare similar finishes across distilleries. Wonder if any one distillery finishes better than others….
If you contract out your own mashbill, wouldn't you use a 'Distilled For and Bottled By' labeling? I'm not sure if there are any regulations surrounding that.
Gents...love you guys. Have asked this question before but haven't heard back. In one of your posts you talked about a bottle being open a while and maybe changing the taste. Can you speak more to that. It was interesting at the time and now it's even more so. We are cleaning out my mother in laws house and found a bottle of green label Jim Beam..."Beams Choice" I Google lensed it and it comes up at ~$300 a bottle. But it's only 1/3 full. It had to be 20+ years old. What would that do to it? Please respond...thanks.
I would be interested to see what more age would do to these bottles from this distillery. It seems to me that may be all that is lacking. Just a thought!
I have the amburana and I had a hard time drinking it after drinking other bourbons. If it's the first pour, or the only pournthat night, it was fine, but that cinnamon not can be aluttle much after a while for me
Price Point, Proof Point, and Age....Couldn't be less interested in what this brand is doing rn at the moment. Add some age and add some proof. So many good bottles in that $60-$70 range. Bottle is killer though
RD1 hasn't made it to the Chicagoland area yet. Binny's doesn't have it. I do have their Amburana finish that I bought from Liquor Barn. IMHO, it's just OK.
I wish this is available in Ohio. If anyone knows a reputable distributor that can ship this to Ohio for us, that would be awesome. I’ve tried bourbon outfitters, and they do not carry the product at this point.
For $60 dollars you are competing with some heavy hitters. I can get Knob Creek 12 and Old Forester 120 and some others for around that price .That’s a high bar in my book to cover.
I agree with Trenton on the amburana finished bourbons. I love a small pour, but that's it. And I don't like the way it lingers on my tongue and even in my nose. I feel like I'm tasting/smelling it all day! It's definitely a love-hate thing with me.
I've only tried one Amburana finish and I couldn't drink it. As often as I go to Lexington, I might have to visit RD1. I'd be checking out the straight bourbon and the French Oak finish. The other two probably aren't for me.
@@hollyjhj3732 I'd be worried it was too sweet, but Kurt seemed to love it. I haven't had pecan pie in a lot of years, but that might be good. I noticed they also have one of their original higher proof bottles still available in their online store. But I'm gonna behave (for now).
I have been drinking the green label rd1 for a while now it confused me of the flavor what I will usually do is take a half a shot or so leave it in a shot glass overnight and then look at it and taste it it kind of gives me a hint of the backside when I did this to this bottle it turned a nasty brownish apple cider looking color smelled good tasted horrible this was the only bottle that I have ever had that happen in my 30 years of collecting I just think being able to take it to Kentucky let it sit for one year and call it Kentucky bourbon is a little strange
Cinnamon baked apples are awesome. Best cereal - Cap’n Crunch if you’re ok with a wrecked mouth for a few days
My wife got me a bottle of Red Line Elements for Father's Day. It's the first bottle I've had finished in amburana barrels and we both really enjoy it. I'll definitely grab another one.
Perfect timing as always! Just recently saw these in stores near me
The amburana finish has a great nose.
Also, they aren't finishing in different barrels, they are using staves in the barrels.

This is perfect! Heading down in a few weeks to spend a couple/few days in Kentucky and RD1 is in consideration for a visit when in Lexington.
I have never seen RD1 here in Southern California yet, but I was in Colorado last weekend and picked up a bottle of the Amburana finished one. It's well worth the $70 I paid for it.

Big fan of the Amburana, Cinnamin Rasin Bran Cereal with a super oily mouth feel. I am gonna love that one sitting in front of the fireplace watching the snow fall in a few months.
Agreed with Kurt on nose and pallet on Amburana finish. Baked apple cinnamon, but bottle is opened the hint of coconut is present as well
Digging the discussion about cereal. Keep it coming fellas!

The maple finish is quickly becoming a favorite daily sipper. I get maple and a charred oak on the back end and it is fantastic

I concur that the Wim Tarr reserve both ages are great

Bald Kurt looks like Mike from Breaking Bad!
Updated tour of the bar please! Love you guys.
It's kind of hard to get your product out there when you're asking $60 right out of the gate. There is a lot of great bourbon in that price range.
Yep. I can get Rare Breed for $55 and 1920 for $50.......might need to be $45 or less for me to "give it a try"... Unless Kurt and Trenton says its the bees knees. My palate lines up pretty close with Kurts on Bourbons. So......We'll see what the vid says at the end.

Barrell just did an Amburana one. Add that one also! Would love to see the video. And I can't find anything but the normal RD1 in south Georgia.

Very interesting, did not know anything about RD1 before today. Nice to know about the sweetness which meets my criteria.
I just got a bottle of RD1 Amburana today. Can't wait to try it
Thank you for this review. I love the Amburana it tastes like apple cinnamon cheerios. I need to try the oak and maple finish. Cheers!
Hey guys love the show. Quick idea for a future testing. Instead of price point, how about something like a blind or best 13yr
Widow Jane
Russels reserve
Elijah Craig barrel proof
Baker
Wild turkey
Penelope
Willett
Etc….
I’ve only tried the amburana finish and it was very good. I didn’t pick up a bottle I’ve already got too many right now but it’s on the list
I have not tried any of these yet and I'm not sure if I have seen any of them on the shelf here in Ohio, but the label does look familiar. I would really like to try the maple finish. I love pecans and pecan pie and this might be a nice after dinner sipper. Thanks for the review on this distillery!
Other great video , Will be there Friday live for the first time..
Was just at a liquor store here in Wisconsin about an hour ago & before I could pull the trigger on one of these I realized I left my wallet at home. All bottles were in the 60-65 range.

I would love to see that Amburana finish flight. 🎉🎉
Love the videos. Is there nothing you can do about the camera focus? I can see a gnats butt pimple on the bottles behind you, but the bottles on the bar are so blurry.
When I looked up distribution for RD One is Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, and one more state I believe that I can’t place.
Fruit Loops or Frosted Flakes are great cereals, putting more cereal in until the milk is gone sounds good to me. 😁
I've only had an amburana finished Irish whiskey, a 15 year old Teeling singlemalt. It's good, and interesting, but honestly, i think i would prefer it without the amburana. It overpowers what seems to be a very quality single malt whiskey.
an amburana blind would be cool. I've seen amburana releases from Penelope, Barrell, Doc Swinsons, Nulu, Starlight, Fiddler, and Four Gate.
I just typed the same thing then scrolled down and saw yours. I wholeheartedly agree
Let us know when you're going to do a tasting of Rasin Brand! Great show! Cheers!
Cereal blind........
I didn't drink the cereal milk either. Sometimes, I just added more cereal like Kurt did
Brazilian Amburana wood bottles.
Great idea for the new video.
What about Golden Grahams? Good stuff when I was younger...
Thanks, haven't seen RD, but will be looking.👍🥃 Cheers
Definitely would love to see an Amburana finish battle
Have you guys ever heard of "western reserve distillers"? There is a 12 year 125$ bottle that the store clerk keeps insisting is an unknown buffalo trace product. It says born in Kentucky bottled in Ohio on the bottle, does anyone have anymore info about this? They don't even have that bottle on their own website.
I actually enjoy this Amburana finished bourbon. It’s a perfect campfire sipper.
Amburana show would be great. Make sure to include Kings Distillery.
Sounds like interesting products at fairly reasonable prices especially for finished bourbon and a start-up distillery. Wish they were more transparent with less historical fluff.
Never had an amburana finished product, so may follow Kurt down that road if I find it.

Starlight’s Cigar Batch Amburana is killer too
Could make that a series in itself too. A “finished” blind tasting. One show Amburana, another of all Cognac, another of all sherry, port, armanac, et al this list is endless. But it’s neat to compare similar finishes across distilleries. Wonder if any one distillery finishes better than others….
Throw RedLine Elements Amburana in the mix.
There’s a bunch of good ones I’m sure I missed. Patreon poll! 📊
Raisin Bran Crunch! That's some good stuff. Right up there with Honey Bunches of Oats.
If you contract out your own mashbill, wouldn't you use a 'Distilled For and Bottled By' labeling? I'm not sure if there are any regulations surrounding that.
I think you should have cleansed your palates after the oak and maple pour. I think it ruined your pour of the French oak finish.
Gents...love you guys. Have asked this question before but haven't heard back. In one of your posts you talked about a bottle being open a while and maybe changing the taste. Can you speak more to that. It was interesting at the time and now it's even more so. Not in our stores yet in Texas, at least where I live.
I only liked the first two sips of the Amburana finish, then something caused it to be overpowering
RD One Amburana is apple fritter in a glass. Loave that stuff. It's my dessert.
I would be interested to see what more age would do to these bottles from this distillery. It seems to me that may be all that is lacking. Just a thought!
I think that 4 year has great bones so far. I agree though having it more like a 6 year would be a whole different story I think!
I couldn’t agree more! Great show!! Totally enjoy you two!
Would like to see an amarone finish edition.
“I like nuts” Kurt’s face after that statement!!!
Wonder if it will make it my way... And what the cost will be.
A bald Kurt resembles Telly Savalas. Showing my age.
The Amburana finish is definitely Cinnamon Toast Crunch
this stuff is excellent really enjoyed the green label
Mini wheats and Honey Nut Cheerios are 1-2
I wish this is available in Ohio. If anyone knows a reputable distributor that can ship this to Ohio for us, that would be awesome. I’ve tried bourbon outfitters, and they do not carry the product at this point.
Over this weekend, I eat a box of cinnamon toast cereal. I drink the milk.😊
Those are pretty bottles, no matter what's inside. 🙂
9:00 I'm a southern boy, and it's not pee-cahn. It's p'CAHN. 🤠
I tried their stuff at the Kentucky bourbon festival. Really good. Not great. Amburana finished was so over the top sweet… I passed on it
best cereal = Honey Bunches of Oats
Sorry, Trent, but you are WRONG! LOL
Wait! I was tuning in to Bourbon Basement Bar, not Cereal Basement Bar!!
I would love to have these in my collection.
Trent says, “I have to be honest” a lot.
For $60 dollars you are competing with some heavy hitters. I can get Knob Creek 12 and Old Forester 120 and some others for around that price .That’s a high bar in my book to cover.
Do Herman and Eddie Munster for Halloween!
@@Robert.Sheard I'd like to try the maple finish.
@@hollyjhj3732 I'd be worried it was too sweet, but Kurt seemed to love it. I haven't had pecan pie in a lot of years, but that might be good. I noticed they also have one of their original higher proof bottles still available in their online store. But I'm gonna behave (for now).
What tine in pacific time is the live feed friday the 29th
I have been drinking the green label rd1 for a while now it confused me of the flavor what I will usually do is take a half a shot or so leave it in a shot glass overnight and then look at it and taste it it kind of gives me a hint of the backside when I did this to this bottle it turned a nasty brownish apple cider looking color smelled good tasted horrible this was the only bottle that I have ever had that happen in my 30 years of collecting I just think being able to take it to Kentucky let it sit for one year and call it Kentucky bourbon is a little strange
Rd1 is everywhere in my area
I have the RD1 Amburana finish, and I honestly don't think it's all that great .. it's okay...
Kurt misspoke they are not "maple barrels", but are maple syrup barrels.
“Scuttlebutt”. Were you in the Navy?
