Physical therapist here. The thing to consider when testing grip strength is placement of fingers while testing. There are four muscles that flex 3 joints of each finger, each one doing a specific job. The most important one for climbers being the flexor digitorum profundus which is only muscle to flex all three finger joints (DIP, PIP, MP). DIP being distal or joint furthest away from body. When hes climbing he’s promoting that joint and muscle the most. However, the grip test has him measuring PIP and MPs only bc his finger pads are not being test. This means the muscle he uses the most is not being tested. It is possible that he might not need handshake grip strength muscles to be as active bc theyre not used as much when climbing.

Not disagreeing with you but I found these numbers to be interesting. I read that 40.5 kg is an average grip strength for a 30 year old, and that's just over 88 pounds. Then I saw the web page below appearing to show the same measuring device and it's numbers are way higher than that. But it also says source and population group unknown. And they list examples like the average NHL hockey player having 127 lb grip strength. I'm surprised he didn't register higher, but I'm guessing that his endurance, and the number of times he could squeeze and grip is over the top. Or if they had a device just showing the fingers clinching he'd be at the top scale.

Thank you for brinning up a common misconception. Grip strength just like all strength is sports releated. You never use this kind of crush grip when you are climbing so you don't have to be strong here. This dynamometer (that I have gotten more then 200 pounds btw lol it's on my channel) only messures one kind of grip. So if you would have some other device that would messure climbing releaded strength he would most likey do pretty well.
