    I currently use the Qidi slicer and submit jobs over wifi. And I track the print status via the internal camera with an iPhone. The i-fast, with a level bed and proper settings is a real workhorse 3D printer. And the Qidi support is superb. I think the focus on the internal camera getting blurry at high temps, and no easy way to stop the printer remotely if a spaghetti print started, would be my reason for going with octoprint.

    • @Eitri3D

      That was our reason for getting Octoprint. In our tech savvy world my 3D Printers we’re the only thing I couldn’t control remotely.

    Wanted to ask if you ever tried the Qidi software with the i-fast over Ethernet? Side note: I have finally gotten Hatchbox ABS filament to print in the i-fast without warping. I have the dual high temp extruders. Initial layers start in a pre-equilibrated chamber at 80C and plate at 105C, no print cooling, chamber circulation only, and extruder fans at 10%. After initial layers are finished the plate goes to 100C. A 27 hour print came out perfect with no warping! Woohoo! 🎉 Hatchbox ABS required 234C for extrusion to be optimal, but don’t iron and do have at least 4 top layers. I’m running at 25mm/s print speed, 50mm/s travel speed, retraction 2.0mm@30mm/s, coasting enabled. Extruder temp could be lower (down to 230C), but I don’t have any stringing or bed adhesion problems, and the test prints came out really nice.

      I removed my Raspberry Pi from my I-fast and print wirelessly now.

    Sorry, more questions! 1) Do you prefer octoprint or WiFi printing + QIDI control panel? I'm curious if you find the upgrade hassle worth the effort, as I'll do it if there's a good reason to and want remote control either way. 2) After owning it for awhile, are you still happy with the i-fast over your x-max, considering price? So far, it seems to offer a lot more up-to-date features (which also seem to be in the new x-cf, which is similarly-priced) that help justify the hefty pricetag. And thanks for all of your awesome videos, I keep coming back to them!

      For the first question, I have to say that they each have their own benefit. Sometimes I prefer my Pi because I can monitor my printer from my couch with the added PiCam; however, I can monitor my I-Fast with the new built in camera. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to save any video from it yet as I can with the Raspberry PiCam over octoprint. Now if I did not need to record timelapse videos for TH-cam and my computer was in the same room as the printer, I personally would not add the Pi to my I-Fast. I was unable to get get my wifi working on the X-Max so the Pi filled that gap. As for satisfaction of owning my I-Fast over the X-Max, the I-Fast has been my go to printer. I use the I-Fast over the X-Max 9 out of 10 times. I have been using the dual hotends to produce dual color prints all most exclusively as of recent. Now understand I have only been printing PLA. I hope this helps clear up anything. Feel free to ask questions because this is a large amount of money to spend and i will provide honest feedback.

    Does the octoprint watch the print process and stop it if the printing turns into spaghetti on the i-fast? If so, did you mount the camera inside the chamber or outside? I think that is the largest benefit octoprint provides.

    • @Eitri3D
      @Eitri3D  ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a ‘spaghetti detector’ you can add into Octoprint. I just have not used it personally.

      That makes two of us. I was confused by your comment so I went to their website and that is the first time I saw that they claim they can print metal. Good news is, I’ve been planning out a Metal 3D printing video. It was not going to be on my I-Fast originally, but who know now, maybe I will change my mind. Thank you for pointing that out to me!

    Did you see how the Qidi X-CF is available now in some places? Very little info, but I'm curious if it would be worth buying over the x-max or I-fast, if it's meant to be an x-max v2 or standalone, etc.

    • @Eitri3D
      @Eitri3D  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did see it. I was asked if I wanted to purchase it then provide a review. Unfortunately they asked right before Christmas and I would have had to pay full price, which I was unable to do at the time. Honestly, I from the details that were emailed to me, you have to ask if the auto bed leveling, enclosed chamber, all-metal hotend (I assume) is worth an extra $1,000 more than the x-max. I would have loved to be sent a tester model like other companies do, but I think I might be passing on this one.

      @@Eitri3D Good points, thanks! And I guess if you have full octoprint capabilities on either, then the software updates are irrelevant. Do you think that it would be possible to mod the x-max wth an all-metal hotend or other things in order to get many of those capabilities, like CF printing? Looking to buy my first printer but x-max just seems a bit outdated.

    • @Eitri3D
      @Eitri3D  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yeah, check out our Chad Mod playlist. We upgrade to an E3D V6 hotend with a dual drive extruder. Now there are many all-metal upgrades out there but I’ve only done the one video series which covers the Chad Mod.

    So the pi hookup didn't work out for you on the x-max? I just got my 2 zero 2 w's today was excited to hookr'up. Its pretty simple to print through qidi print but I really don't like their software. I'd prefer to just print it straight from prusa hence why I found octoprint appealing.

    • @Eitri3D
      @Eitri3D  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It works great on the x-Max. I just unhooked it to demonstrate how to hook it up to the I-fast.

      @@Eitri3D Do you know if you can add a auto bed leveler like BL Touch? I got one but now I'm having a really hard time finding anyone mentioning it for QIDI.

      I do not know for the I-fast. I know it comes standard on the new X-CF Pro. Let me do some digging.

    Does the normal temp extruder work without the yellow tape around the hotend?

    • @Eitri3D
      @Eitri3D  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can but that is a shield to help keep temps regulated and stable. Without it the heat will creep down and could affect your print. I use the yellow tape stuff until it tears/falls off then I put on a silicone cover on it.

    Forgive the dumb question, but how do you get to the Qidi control panel and does it work with the x-max?

    • @Eitri3D
      @Eitri3D  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you open Qidi Print you click the control panel tab at the top. As for the X-Max if you have it set up on wifi then it should work.

    • @Eitri3D
      @Eitri3D  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you’re new to 3D printing I would use Qidi Print. It’s made for these printers. First thing is to find a .stl file/model you want to print (thangs.com, Thingiverse.com, etc). Download you file and then upload it into your Qidi Print and then select the file preset that pertains to the type of filament you’re using. Then you print. From there you can start making adjustments if needed for temp, supports or just about anything else. We have video that walks you through Qidi Print and explains how to use.
