  • Who is the person in the Blue Cloak, what legacy do their words leave on the main antagonist of the previous saga, and what does this all mean for Subject X? Let's have a chat about the chronological beginning of Kingdom Heart's Dark Road's story. Part 2, covering the main story is coming soon.
When I started writing the script for the Dark Road explanation video I felt like there were some parts that I really wanted to dive into, with this Post Credits scene being one of the big ones. So I'll be doing at least one more video explaining the main story of Dark Road in this similar style.

I think assuming there is only one child of destiny seems almost wrong. I believe xehanort and sora are both a half to make up the "child of destiny". The player wasn't wrong he became a master of light. Xehanort is what pushed sora to do what he's done without xehanort sora may have never left the islands. Xehanort gave him life lessons more or less. Then the first time a bequeathing of the keyblade happened to sora was xehanort with the x-blade. Without the other darkness would have prevailed.

I think Xehanort indeed was comparing Sora to someone... Either Eraqus but primarily his sense of justice and stubborness... When Xehanort is on the mission - he keeps all his emotions in check for the sake of maximum effeciency appearing seemingly lacking any empathy... And we rarely see Old Master Xehanort not like that... But not "never"... Xehanort did bring Ventus to peacufully expire on Destiny Islands once he deemed he can do nothing else to further his plans with Ventus at the moment. He also did programm into Kairi an "exception" for her to be able to abandon her search if she ends up in Unreality. In both cases he had zero reasons to do so and it was basically a waste of time... But once something is outside of being use for his PLAN - he does show Empathy... Usually when there are no witnessess around.
TL:DR - Basically what I mean to point out we see Xehanort offing Eraqus while in "ON THE MISSION" mode - he has no time to show remorse and can do so due to perfect mastery over his Empathy perk. I mean, if you were a computer coder for instance, and made a program for a specific function, but then afterwards determined that the goal of the program was not achievable, then you would want that program to shut down so that it doesn't cause a load of unintended consequences or tampering with things that are already working as you want them to. I can't help but feel that Kairi's exception was just included for efficiency's sake, or as a means of "purging" unnecessary/unwanted code from running where it shouldn't/can't. As for Ventus...I'm still trying to wrap my head around exactly what Xehanort was thinking in all of that, but I'm definitely not getting empathy vibes from someone who wastes another person (for whatever reason) and then dumps them off in the middle of nowhere like useless trash.... just my honest opinion...

I kinda hate the thought that Sora is the Child of Destiny unless it turns out that the Child of Destiny is a self fulfilling prophecy. I don't want Sora to be the destined one to defeat the darkness because he was chosen to do so from the very start, I kinda just want him to be the Child of Destiny because he did what the Child of Destiny was supposed to do. Like the Chosen Undead in Dark Souls, you weren't "Chosen" you just did what the Chosen Undead was supposed to do, there were plenty of candidates to fulfill the role but you ended up doing it first and so the title was given to you. I want the same thing for Sora, like Xehanort, Riku, Kairi, or even Ventus had the ability to be the Child of Destiny but Sora ended up fulfilling the prophecy so he's the Child of Destiny. If Nomura really wants Sora to be "Just a normal kid" then make it a self fulfilling prophecy.

Completely agree with you. I felt like KH1 set things up so that it didn't matter what your origins were, you could achieve great things if you open your heart to others.
The Child of Destiny narrative undermines this point by making it so that Sora was special all along.
Granted, we've come a long way from KH1 but as someone who started KH when it came out, it feels like a misstep in storytelling imo.
Something that I think could be cool is that while Xehanort is the Singularity (due to his time travel?), Sora could be some "anomaly" that came into existence as a result. I kinda like that karmic vibe, especially since we now know that there are consequences for performing a taboo of nature, like with Sora disappearing in KH3. Perhaps there were many such anomalies and Sora is just one of them who happens to fulfill the Chosen One description, where the others fell to darkness. I think I'm just ripping off the Matrix here though lol.
At the end I guess prophecy stuff always needs a twist to be interesting; maybe Sora isn't the chosen one just so that there can be a twist later.

I think both Riku and Sora are the Child of Destiny. After all, they both are born on Destiny Islands, both are chosen to be dark vessels, and both have being One. (Riku in Sora's dreams and diving into his Heart).
Xehanort's role is to set up Sora and Riku to undone the Timeline when Darkness wins. Nomura refers to that as the "singularity", Sora performing the Power of Waking incorrectly. And Sora did that because of the Thing Riku told him before he self-sacrificed . So Xehanort causes the Singularity by being the "villains" to Sora and Riku.

I don't think it's very likely, but I wonder if Player continues to reincarnate and eventually becomes Sora. I feel like this maybe isn't the case because they made sure to keep Blue Robe's face hidden to imply they're the Player and they would maybe do this every time Player reincarnates. Or maybe they're hiding the face because Blue Robe is the Missing Link avatar and covering their face isn't necessary for other reincarnations.
I always assumed that Xehanort's "You remind me of an old friend" line referred to Eraqus, and it still probably does. But now that we know Xehanort can connect to the memories of others, that line could be referring to Ephemer or even Player. And if it's Player, then maybe they did reincarnate as Sora.
Also I really like Young Xehanort's line that you point out. It's a nice thought that YX realizes he's not the child of destiny and tries to direct Sora. But then his line when you defeat him in the keyblade graveyard seems to maybe contradict that.

I think we need to know where this info about the child of destiny comes from. If it is in the Book of Prophecy we should be extremely careful. Why? Because we know that what is written there is not what will really happen and that the Mom knows that darkness was peeking at the Book. So the Mom intentionally wrote the Book with mistakes in order to deceive darkness. Another thing we know is written in the book is that Ventus is regarded as the “chosen one” (it was etched - darkness says). And then Xehanort adds in the corridor of darkness that the chosen one is the one supposed to be a dark vessel. This fits Ventus more than anything to be honest. And knowing how Sora and Ventus are connected, being Sora his second chance is something we should not forget.
If we stick to the description of the child of destiny we have solely from Player however, in my opinion the description of the child of destiny fits Sora way more than Xehanort. As much as people dislike that Sora would be then regarded as a special one, I dislike the idea that Xehanort should be excused for all he did just because he started with good intentions. In life what is important is not only your intention but what you actually DO. And we see till the very end of KH3 how reluctant was Xehanort to pass down his “ role”. He believed he could reset the world by making darkness prevail because “light was born from darkness”. But if the plan of Xehanort would succeed then there would be no world now. Instead Sora was the one to rewrite destiny, to sacrifice himself to save his friends. No other has done what Sora WILLINGLY did and for this reason he deserves to be recognized. Without Sora nothing could have been done. Mickey and Riku were not even able to save Aqua by themselves.
As far as I agree that other characters should be acknowledged more in the game and not everything should be accomplished by Sora alone, it is pointless to keep on saying he is no special. Nobody is born special, by blood line for example. But what you DO in life CAN make you special. Sora’s choices not driven by the knowledge of a old prophecy or by his ancient blood line, his actions alone, his compassion and generosity made him the special hero we should all love. And by keeping on saying that he is ordinary even now after all he did without asking anything in return is a big problem that many in life have to deal with. I think that a prophecy of a Child of Destiny does not imply that someone is born like this. The difference is WHO WILL BECOME that child by his actions.
Anyway my true hope is that Ventus will be the one. He has been such an important character but we still know so little about him. And him being a pure light who still harbors a big darkness despite Vanitas being extracted by his heart makes him such an interesting character to be explored further. At the end of KH3 he starts remembering the old days. Let’s hope he gets a more important role in the future.

I'm still certain that Skuld (AKA Subject X) is the same girl that Lea and Isa had befriended back in the two's childhood, and were apprenticed to Ansem the Wise to supposedly help her, but they failed, because she was gone. Luxu (AKA Xigbar) is most likely the one who bailed her out (the man in the eyepatch, as he's described). So Ansem the Wise was right when he said he didn't do anything to Subject X. He most likely doesn't even remember her that much now (one, because it had been a long time, and two, because he was hellbent on revenge). I don't think it's Master Ava. Sure, we didn't see her in the Keyblade War, so it's likely she wasn't involved in said battle, but Luxu had previously explained his role before all of that started, and the two did clash a bit, but nobody knows what happened to her after recruiting the Dandelions. Luxu said that she had carried out her mission, but that's all we've got regarding her fate, so Skuld being Subject X seems to make the most sense. Plus, there's no mention of Ava's fox mask in the secret reports in KH3, so that makes the theory of it being her even more unlikely. We don't see any of the Foretellers' faces behind their Union masks, anyway. Same for the Master, and we STILL don't even know his name (Nomura, you tease). Luxu had to give up his old form and has been through different semblances since then (including Bagi in Dark Road (at some point, anyway)), Xigbar being his current one.

My guess is that Xehanort is a descendant of Ephemer and Ava. Nomura said in an interview that Xehanort's mom isn't Skuld, but that the resemblance will eventually be explained. I think it's likely that during Missing Link, we are going to eventually meet a character that at first is implied to be Skuld, but later is revealed to be Ava who just happens to look just like Skuld for some reason or another. Who knows, maybe our character in Missing Link will be a descendent of Ephemer, and there will actually be a romance between them and Ava - making Xehanort our grandson from our second life. Skuld is just too good a candidate for Subject X for them to backline her as an ancestor to Xehanort.
If they did though, I think the best option for Subject X would actually be one of the upper classmen from Dark Road. There were four of them that were dead at the River Styx, and they all said "May your heart be your guiding key" before disappearing. It's possible that one of them tried to pass on (probably Hoder) and got caught in the future in some cloning experiment in Ansem's lab instead; coming alive and befriending Lea and Isa before the clone starts disintegrating or something. When Terranort/Xemnas comes across Hoder's deteriorating clone body, he recognizes her as a friend because he literally went to school with her.
All that said, still think it's just Skuld - that'd be more satisfying as Hoder's arc feels closed already.

Great video. The issue, though, that I've been grappling with, is that-as you point out-"the one inscribed in the book" is also described as "the one chosen to be a dark vessel." Unless there's something about Sora we're not aware of, he doesn't match this description. Also worth remembering Luxu's KH3 secret reports, in which he refers to "the chosen one" as "a Keyblade Master devoted to the darkness," seemingly referring to the same "dark vessel" person. Near the end of DR, before the Bragi reveal, we learn that Luxu had originally believed Baldr to be this person; we know of course that it turns out to be Xehanort. Of course, the Child of Destiny and "the one chosen to be a dark vessel"/dark seeker/etc could be referring to 2 separate people, but I also find this hard to believe because a) they are both variously associated with the term "chosen one" or "the one chosen," and b) Master Xehanort remembers Player/Blue Coat themselves referring to the "one inscribed in the book"-presumably the Child of Destiny-as "the one chosen to be a dark vessel." I elaborate on some of these points in this thread: www.khinsider.com/forums/index.php?threads/spoiler-xehanort-is-the-child-of-destiny.236791/. But I won't deny Sora also fits many of the characteristics and is the one to change destiny, in the end, though arguably Xehanort was the one to set Sora up to accomplish this (remember Xigbar's line in KH3: "We gotta make sure you're not blundering your way toward a second failure"). Curious what you think, I'm struggling to square all this away

    • @gaelarriaga846
      @gaelarriaga846 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I think moreso that the Child of Destiny and the Dark Seeker are separate entities. Xehanort is important because as the MoM states, he’s the singularity and a pivotal person to lay the groundwork for the events that unfolded. Xehanort believes he’s the child of destiny because that was he was told, but if we go by what the Player said about the child of destiny, then Sora best matches the description. It’s in Xehanorts belief that because of what he was told and what he experience that he was the destined child when in reality he was the singularity that would give rise to the true child of destiny. I guess the best way I can explain it is that Xehanort is the chosen one in the context that he’s the one that will bring into fruition the true child of destiny, since even right after Sora was born, because he split Ven’s heart to two, Sora was able to connect with Ven and bring about every event that was to come. Maybe that’s what the MoM meant when he said he was the singularity. Of course, that’s my perspective and I think that it makes sense given everything we’ve witness so far.

In regards to the Child of Destiny thing, it's important to keep in mind that this info came from the Book of Prophecies, written by Master of Masters. Someone who is not only a huge schemer, but also quite the manipulator. It's still hard to say where the Master still stands morally, but he clearly has a personal agenda for everything he does, so I think it's very important to think critically about all the info we get from the book. The book was meant to be read by others, to guide them to act in certain ways. We have no reason to assume that all the info in the book is objective and good chunks of it may have been written for the explicit purpose of manipulating others to act in ways that benefit the Master's overall plans.
This is not to say that I think the 'Child of Destiny' thing is a total red herring (it does fit Sora perfectly) but rather that I'm not sure if Sora's role as one is as important as Player and the other people of Scala believe. Sora could simply be the one Master saw would rise up and stop Light from expiring, not out of fate but simply by being the one who does it. The Master could then use this info to embellish his prophecy a bit, to ensure that Player would raise Xehanort like he did, so that things would turn out like the Master hoped. So very much a self-fulfilling prophecy.
And just like we need to be critical of the info the Master gives us through the book, we should really consider all of the stuff he may have chosen to omit from it. A lot of people seem to regard the book as an objective source of knowledge, when it's anything but. (Not saying you are, just a trend I've noticed from the fanbase).

It is not unusual that Square game has more specific explanation for "prophecy". In FFVIII Squall is called destinied hero, but real reason simply is the timeloop where he has already killed the villainess and villainess travels back in time to start the loop. Xehanort is basically Ultimecia redux.
It is not unpropable that prophecy is just a scam and MoM has actually twisted future in certain sense.

    2 comments:
First, the tale about the child of destiny that comes from Destiny Islands is a prophecy in the same way that the Book of Prophecies itself is. By that, I mean that what the Gazing Eye sees is that a child from the Islands will be a savior and all that, and then MoM writes about it in the Book. It is not a magic prophecy done in the past that tries to predict the destiny of someone, it is actually something that had already happened in the future by the time of writing it. It is not that a super-hero child was destined to be raised in Destiny Islands, it's just the MoM describing from his perspective what Sora did. And then Player, Luxu-Bragi and maybe Odin thought that Xehanort was that child.
Secondly, since I first learned about Subject X I thought it was Ava, and more so after the final scene of KH3 where Xigbar calls the other masters. What I believe is that Xehanort knew that one of the 13 Darknesses was inside of her, and was trying to discover how to get it out and/or destroy it. Remember that all of his research was supposed to be about the darkness inside the heart. On a less relevant note, I associate the "May your heart be your guiding key" more with the 5 original fore-tellers, because they've actually seen MoM repeating it over and over, while I presume that the new 5 union leaders only heard the phrase a couple of times, at least compared to the first ones.

Something toward Skuld being Subject X that wasn't mentioned was also that in Axel's entry in the Character Files, Subject X is confirmed to have "black"/"dark" hair.
Granted, we don't know Ava's hair color yet, but if it were the case that she was Subject X, since Chi is confirmed to have taken place over the course of two years (by Strelitzia), that means that two years before the KBW, when Player starts their journey, Ava would have to be 13 years old. She would be the youngest keyblade master in the entire series, and nothing is said of how much of a prodigy she would be.
Sure, they say she's the youngest foreteller, but nothing about how impressive it is for her, a would-be thirteen year old, to be a full fledged keyblade master able to solo a raid boss Darkside with the same ease as full adults Ira and Aced

i really, REALLY want subject X to be skuld. it's just as likely that it's ava, but i would vastly prefer if it was skuld. while we also don't know where ava is, skuld is the only person from the new foretellers group that we don't know what happened to. the 'skuld and ephemera got together and they're both xehanort's great great grandparents' theory bothers me as well, it'd be poor writing and frankly insulting to show what happens to everyone else but have her whole thing be handled entirely off-screen. if her and ephemera were in the same place at the same time, especially if they washed up together, they would have shown that
skuld being subject X would be perfect and tie things together nicely. it'd be really interesting too from a "she was so close yet so far away this whole time" perspective and opens up the possibility of actually getting to meet her in the present time as sora

Xehanort was made to be a scapegoat if player remembers all of their previous life then they know what is written in the book of prophecies (if I remember correctly Player was shown or told of its contents no? I don't remember all of union x so I could be wrong) in which case Player purposely told Xehanort he is the child of destiny in order to put Xehanort on this path to ultimatly become the scape goat that would allow the book to be correct and bring the world past the keyblade war.
The interesting detail about xehanort being simply a scapegoat/pawn in a greater scheme is that Xehanorts final armor (is it classified as keyblade armor) is that of a goat. Nomura literally clad the scape goat in goat armor

Maybe Subject X is someone that we know is still alive even after UX. Someone who has amnesia, but still remembers 4 specific people, dubbing them as "friends". Someone who was broken free and put into a pod [a device that can apparently travel to world neither of light nor darkness (at least I think the report said she was put in a pod)]. Maybe.......Subject X is Strelitzia. Luxu probably set her up so that in UX, the "True Dandelion" would end up around the time of BBS, and THEN send her to Quadratum. The 4 friends could be Player, her Chirithy, Elrena and Lauriam (again she has amnesia, she could mistake her brother as a friend). If not Strelitzia, then it has to be Skuld (if she isnt actually part of Xehanorts family tree) or some original character we never seen in UX(?).

Actually there is a quite specific line that says that the child of destiny mist be careful or else they'll be "contaminated" by darkness and deviate from their true purpose. What happened is that Xehanort was indeed the child of destiny, but he's role shifted after all that he's experienced and after MoM interference. So the role passed on, like the keyblade did and like the pure lights did, and moved down the list, and there he is, Sora, the next perfect person to fit the role.

Subject X could be Staritzia, after all marluxia's body needed a waypoint, it's been said that he needed to hold on to the memory of her to be his way back, of course it's probably the data version tho, but that should be enough for it to help him come back(?) the real question here tho is, why did he need to have 13 copies, unless he intended to be the sole vessel for the darkness, until Sora proved that wrong with his anit-form/Rage form it's likely Sora is the player because of this, after all Sora has mentioned the very same stuff Xehornort said in the very beginning of the series, and the player has a strong resistance against the darkness thanks to the bangle(s) so it's possible that Sora was able to be the last darkness vessel, especially thanks to his "hurt" through out his adventures.
It maybe my own opinion on this part but I think Riku is ALSO the player as well, this is because of what the nightmare and spirit said during the war, what if there were two separate personalities in one person and one were turned to darkness, and with Riku's power over it and ability to do so much with it even after him coming back I personally see this theory has some merit to it, after all Sora and Riku are very powerful in their own rights but they are also two sides of the same coin, this may also align with why in kh3 that the darkside opening battle was not like any other we've experienced before, the reason is that Riku now is more light than darkness, but in turn Sora also turned more dark as well, giving into his rage and emotions because of what has happened.

I really truly hate that they stuck these stories into these mobile games. These really should have been full titles instead of relegated to some lame mobile fodder and then cutscene collection.

One thing I don't understand about the ending of Union X, how do they all time travel? It was stated multiple times that a body cannot travel through time and that a vessel/medium and a person with memories of you would be needed at the destination, yet they all arrive with their bodies intact.

I belive that Sora isn't the Child of Destiny, but just an ordinary boy who was the right man at the wrong place.
Maybe Xenaroth is really the Child of Destiny but, just like Riku in KH1, went stray from his path, but he still has the title. Or maybe Xenaroth was indeed the Child of Destiny, but when he became the Dark Seeker the title of Child of Destiny went to Riku (after all, he was supposed to be the original choosen by the Keyblade).
But then, what about Sora? Well, I belive that Sora is the Singularity, the concept that the MoM mentions 2 times during Dark Road finale, one when he first encounters Xenaroth, and then at the very end, making clear that Xenaroth isn't this Singularity.
But why I belive this? Well the whole concept of the word Singularity is something out of the expected, a variable so specific that could only happend once. And I belive Sora enters that category, he was never meant to be the choosen one, nor his actions were described in the book of profecies, because the profecy was "Darkness prevail and Light will expire", but Sora did the oposite, maybe Sora is the Singularity the MoM needs to finaly break the never ending cycle of Light vs Darkness.

So if Sora is the MoM who has time traveled in the past, and MoM has 1 of the darkness in him, than it still has him fits it. There still a few like Riku, Ventus, and still somewhat Xehanort that fits it, and possibly even those we don't realize yet

Okay, I thought of something that has nothing to do with this video. What if MoM was handing out the crowns to the 7 lights? We didn't see any of the princesses of heart in the worlds we were able to visit, just heard of Princess Aurora. Jasmine shouldn't have been formed yet (maybe). We don't see Alice or Belle either.
Unless they were with others at the time? How do the crowns work

Hopefully we then reincarnate into the next create a character game we hopefully get. Unless next twist is SORA is the next reincarnation of the player!
Also I wonder if reincarnation means looking similar to your previous life's self. I put a lot of thought into ALL 6 costumes of my Union X avatar from start of story to the Unchained reset to the end. I wanna know if my character is supposed to have similar traits or if it would actually make less sense for them to resemble their past selves at all.

Watching my character- someone I created myself in 2016 when I was a teenager and grew up with into adulthood- die in real time was really emotional for me. Losing all my medals, all the time I spent guilting my medals, all the money I spent on re-rolls... all of it is gone now. All that's left are an echo of what once was and the memories I associate with it. I never imagined that some mobile gacha game would make me feel this way.

    A few questions/comments:
    - It is brought up but not explained why the Emblem Heartless are present during Dark Road.
    - I thought at one point it was confirmed that exposure to darkness not only gives one yellow eyes and pointy ears but dark skin as well. I assumed this was why Xehanort’s skin was dark and he had yellow eyes, but he seemed to be born with both dark skin and yellow eyes. Does this hint that he was exposed to darkness before or around the time of his birth, or was that retconned somehow?
    - When did the Foretellers trap six darknesses inside them?
    - What happened to the darknesses that were trapped in the data world? How was Wreck-it Ralph a summon later on if the world is still asleep, or is it not asleep?
    - Were the Keyblade wielders that became Dream Eaters from Daybreak Town or the data version? Are all of the current Dream Eaters these Keyblade wielders or just some of them? Did any of them become the Nightmare Dream Eaters, or were those the Heartless and/or other forms of darkness?

    • @bluegem8582
      @bluegem8582 ปีที่แล้ว

For the darknesses in foretellers bit, I think he mentioned in the Union Cross story video, that the amount of negative emotions the Foretellers felt and experienced after MoM left, along with the fact that Book of Prophecies mentioned a traitor, making everyone suspicious of one another, acted as bait for those 6 (Apologies if you're asking more when specifically they did, rather than just a rough timeframe)

Does Xehanort’s master’s skin change depending on the skin color of the play character in the Union X save file?
