Hi Everyone! I noticed some understandable confusion regarding the PSU orientation and wanted to provide some additional info, as typically you would face the PSU fan out. The idea of facing it inward is to intake the hot air expelled from the blower-style cooler on the FE graphics card and exhaust it out the top of the case. This orientation option is provided in the Fractal Terra’s user manual provided with the case. It even has been brought up as a viable option by multiple well-established and highly credible TH-cam channels (assuming you use a high-quality power supply), so I wanted to try it myself. (See Page 38: www.fractal-design.com/app/uploads/2023/05/Terra-manual-V1.2.pdf) For some additional context, Fractal also includes 2 sets of PSU bracket standoffs (10mm and 6.5mm) to create more space between the graphics card and the PSU. The configuration in my video can only fit the shorter 6.5mm standoffs. After a few comments stating concerns, I decided to test the GPU thermals on both orientations (the PSU fan facing in v. out) and found that the GPU thermals increased by an average of 8-10ºC across the games I tested with the fan facing OUT. Of course, if you are planning to build in this case, the option is 100% yours on how you want to orient the PSU when using a FE card. Or if this is all weird and confusing, I would recommend not using a blower-style FE card and orient the PSU fan toward the outside of the case.
I noticed that you never show where you plug in the PSU cable for the GPU, which was linked on amazon. Is this the correct cable? I ordered all the same parts, and I do not have a cable to plug my gpu into the psu at all.
Fractal is killing it with case design recently. Was never really a fan of the meshifies, but the North and Terra are beautiful. I just went with the Ridge for the htpc look, but if I wasn't trying to go that route, I'd definitely go with a Terra or North.
The only major update that Fractal needs to do is put inside, is a removable dust screen. Those slots allow way too much dust in. Other wise it’s a nice H/O pc.
If your case only has a power switch, with no LEDs or reset switch, that Gigabyte board has a power button header right next to the USB 3.0 header, so you can skip the front panel addin card. assuming you're also not using SATA.
Dude, I've never been an rgb guy but those rams look incredible when the case is closed, and that cable management holy I wish you showed us how you did it.
My advice for that want this case. Get a small Corsair 750 sffpc PSU. I have the sffpc ASUS PSU Loki which is bigger and I could not fit a small 120mm fan at the bottom. I have a graphite Terra too and so far I am loving the case. Your build looks really good and I agree with you about the bottom panel, would have been nice if I could have easily removed it. When the 3080 FE released I saw numerous people with the Dan A4-SFX rotate their PSU in order to exhaust the back fan on the FE, many of them started to experience problems with system stability so keep an eye on yours.
I just bought this motherboard and case. I have everything plugged in right except the 1 front panel connector. Where the hell does it go? I tried the power switch spot in the dongle but no luck. The psu is getting power but nothing turns on at all. Please help
There's enough intake from the GPU and CPU coolers. More importantly, having the bottom fan as exhaust allows for the flow-through design of the GPU to dump the hot air immediately.

thanks for the vid! Currently building this exact same build and I have two questions. 1: where did you plug in the 120mm Noctua fan? 2: which input does the "POWER SW" cable on the Terra go into on the motherboard adapter?
Nice build. Not recommended to run the flow through cooler through the PSU though. There’s no chance that Fractal recommended this. Also with a 4080 you should be using a more powerful cooler such as the IS-55 or AXP90-x47 as you have enough space
@@devyn.johnston I'd recommend taking looking at SFF forums about this, people have tried similar with the Ghost S1, Dan A4 SFX and Formd T1 with the PSU facing the flowthrough fan of the GPU and it's never worth it, definitely worth flipping it around.
Bro! You just helped Fractal get another customer for this case. I was concerned about the cpu temps buty I will be using an non-X AMD cpu for my build. Thanks for the video!!!
Hey Devyn! Do you still agree that having the PSU backwards is the best bet? I’m considering doing the same for my ghost s1 with a Metacustoms spine to help get rid of hot air from the gpu. Just wanna make sure this won’t make my temps worse.
Loving this build! 1 change I would like however, is to use an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which your fan does not support. If that's the case, which fan would you recommend for this build?
Is the CPU at stock or is under-voltted in anyway? I have the 5800X and since the 5000 series and AM5 platform, all i see is every chip runs hot so i am just curious about the cpu and how it runs with a low-profile cooler?
Plenty of people use the 5800x with a thermal right am90x47 full copper, and it works. The 5800x3d is actually much faster and more efficient (less heat) for gaming, so most people use that CPU in the Terra case.
I would be interested in how loud this is. Could yo make a more in depth review of temps and noise? As a HTPC, connected to the TV, I need this to be quiet. Also what is the maximum size for the Graphicscard? Will a 3-3.5 Slot design still work?
You can pair the cooler with a 7800X3D, but you might need to enable Eco-Mode or choose a ~65W PPT. In Gaming you won't notice it, but it does lower the allcore performance.
@@M4rio21 It seems like you don't know, so let me explain. The 7800X3D is a gaming CPU, otherwise you would choose a CPU with more cores to work with it. The 7800X3D uses less power then the 7600X on average, because it was designed that way. In gaming it uses 50-70W, that is when it is used to its fullest in games. But when you use certain applications or benchmark tools, then it can use even more power, that is upto 162W. So limiting it to ~65W won't take any FPS from your games. You could let it run stock if you want, but in some edge cases it could use more power and make your fans go brrr...
@@M4rio21 Well on a techical level the power consumption is the same, since it is essentially the same chip, but the clock/voltage/powercurve is different. The 7800X3D for example boots upto 5Ghz, but the 7600X boosts upto 5,3Ghz. That 300Mhz higher takes up a a lot more power. That is why if you want the 7700X enable Eco-Mode/ use limit for a 65W TDP OR use the 7700 non-X, which has already similar limits out of the box. For the NH-L9A "mini" cooler it is best to keep within that 65W limit. P.S. sadly I can't draw curves in here, that could have explained it much better. :D Higher clock= exponential higher powerusage.
The CPU fan is kinda blowing into a closed space with all that MB heatsink and RAM serving like walls. It may help the CPU temp if you can reverse the fan direction, or somehow rotate the fin orientation of the CPU heatsink. Just my 2 cents.
I’m wondering the same thing, you probably should. Right now I’m looking to actually use the 7700X, but can’t find any information on that type of build on UE5
So how does the cooler perform under heavy load? Does it manage the 7600X? When I use a local PC-Builder their software say the Noctua isn't powerfull enough for the X-CPU:s
Which set of standoffs did you use for this build? And would there be any benefit of using the fan at the bottom for exhaust with a founders edition card? Clean build!
I wonder if it's possible to flip the panels or rearrange some hardware so the latch is in the front of the case, eliminating the issue of interference with taller graphics cards and allowing you to run a larger CPU cooler.
Yes, its to intake and then exhaust the heat from the GPU. As for if it's a bad idea, Fractal recommends it as an option in the user manual. You can check it out on page 38 of the guide if you're curious: www.fractal-design.com/app/uploads/2023/05/Terra-manual-V1.2.pdf

After a few comments stating concerns, I decided to test the GPU thermals on both orientations (the PSU fan facing in v. out) and found that the GPU thermals increased by an average of 8-10ºC across the games I tested with the fan facing OUT.

You can pair the cooler with a 7800X3D, but you might need to enable Eco-Mode or choose a ~65W PPT. In Gaming you won't notice it, but it does lower the allcore performance.
I was thinking the same thing, but it doesn't makes sense to me to buy an expensive chip, and not utilize it to it's fullest potential.
@@gucky4717 Oh wow, i did not realize the power consumption was LESS than the slower chip. That's actually very impressive.
Higher clock= exponential higher powerusage.
What temps and noises are you getting? Am going with same gpu but with a 7800x3D
The CPU fan is kinda blowing into a closed space with all that MB heatsink and RAM serving like walls. It may help the CPU temp if you can reverse the fan direction, or somehow rotate the fin orientation of the CPU heatsink. Just my 2 cents.
Can you design in unreal engine 5 with these specs? They look like it
I just wanna be sure
I’m wondering the same thing, you probably should. Right now I’m looking to actually use the 7700X, but can’t find any information on that type of build on UE5
So how does the cooler perform under heavy load? Does it manage the 7600X?
When I use a local PC-Builder their software say the Noctua isn't powerfull enough for the X-CPU:s
Which set of standoffs did you use for this build? And would there be any benefit of using the fan at the bottom for exhaust with a founders edition card? Clean build!
I love that youtube suggesting Fractal Terra builds... I own one too... best case I've ever bought!
Can you do a build with the formd t1 with the 4080?
Hi there I’ll have the 4090 FE soon and will this fit it as well? Just double checking. I’m guessing the only upgrade I’ll need is a 1000 watt SFX?
Around 9.25 there is some audio playing or its an echo of you idk in the background that scared the shit out of me
I wonder if it's possible to flip the panels or rearrange some hardware so the latch is in the front of the case, eliminating the issue of interference with taller graphics cards and allowing you to run a larger CPU cooler.
Little hack I did was just cut off part of the release button, works perfectly
absolutely I did the same and I gained 8mm@@rickdoremus5532
BEAUTIFUL MACHINE, THANK FOR THE VIDEO
what are the temps?
why does your psu fan facing inside your case? will it just intake the exhaust heat of your 40series FE?
@@BRSxIgnition so in short it mean that in the video is just a bad idea. right?
@@BRSxIgnition thank you for the info.
Lovely build!
Quick questions: Why having the case fan as axhaust? Isn't it bettes as intake since hot air tends to go up? Is there any difference?
Hi Mr.Devyn, i wonder why u put ur PSU towards GPU ? cause i put my PSU In Front.
btw i use the Black Color too, i just Really Love the Colour, just really suits me
How did you plug the fan in?
What cable did you use for the 4080? Im doing almost the same build and I cant seem to find a cable that fits the case and PSU.
Cpu thermals are bad you should have gone with the ID IS 55 or 47. I use the 47 and I never hit 80 C
